Over our years on the boards, we've all called in the ban-hammer on a thread or post. Let's hear your stories!
Who here has called in the ban-hammer the most?
Which rule will you call it in the most quickly on?
If you could add or remove a rule, what would it be?
And for those on the receiving end of the ban, which rule have you guys broken the most?
-Penguin
-
You've actually used the report button? And admit it?
-
#14 i think, i see that most often, when i see a locked thread hell yeah i'ma look at it :O
-
I am proud to say that I never had my post changed to "see rule #" :D
And it just so happened that way, I never memorized the rules.
Regarding the other part of the OP I can't say because I don't remember.

I called it in once that I can remember when I was in a particularly bad mood, and another time that I can remember when I thought it was well deserved. And I wouldn't change any rules, but I would enforce some of them more strictly. I would generally use it for #4, and that's the one I'd prefer to see used more often, tbh.

i got banned once for 3 days because of a pic with Hillary Clinton standing in front of a banner and her location just so happened to block out a letter and caused and amusing word to be seen behind her. Never got a warning or anything....
just search "funny Hillary Clinton" on yahoo image search and its on the bottom right of the first page

In nearly 12 years, I've never found the need to turn anyone in.

Of course, I busted my cherry on this thread here, http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,309026.0.html. The report button wasn't enough, I had to resort to an email followed by a voicemail. I basically reported anyone who posted in that thread. You guys really should know better than to feed the people who purposely start rule-breaking threads.

Good point fury. It might be a good idea too to go through the post history of the people in that thread to make sure there aren't any other infractions.
-
Well, I screwed up. I now realize that I posted in that thread. I had no choice but to report myself, thank God that report button is available on my own posts.
-
You have a point, looks like I'm going to have to go back and report myself.
-

Nah.. looks like you've already got someone following you around reporting you for you.

Yep, you've removed all doubt. :aok

I think the only times I've ever used any of the HTC report functions, someone was spewing racist neo-Nazi slogans or other terrible drivel in the Training Arena despite repeated warnings.
That's a little different in my mind than what you're so proud of doing, Penguin...
-
What's with all the stigma surrounding the report button?
-
Oh, 14 all the time......
-
You've actually used the report button? And admit it?
Penguin has used the report function so much on these forums that he's worn out a few mice from all the clicking.

Not even the line reading 'report to moderator' that likes to hang out right below your post?

You'd probably tell on someone for eating on the subway too...

There's a gray zone, dude. Not everyone who calls in a ban hammer tells everyone everything. What you guys suggest are childish extremes.

Why do you feel it is your responsibility to enforce hitech's rules? Or are you personally offended by everything that you report?
-
It's not my personal responsibility. It's actually everyone's. Think about it like this:
Skuzzy could not physically read every single post on this forum, even if he didn't need to eat, sleep or perform other human activities. Thus, he added the report button under for us the to do leg work for him.
And yes, I call it in if it breaks the rules. They are there for a reason, so that flamewars don't start and that this place doesn't devolve into a wild melee. Look at flamewarriors, they are the result of no rules being posted.
Furthermore, by signing up for this forum service (which HiTech provides at no cost to us), we agree to abide by the rules. If some of us stray from the path of controlled discussion, others will help them get back to it.

I think it's hitech's responsibility to enforce hitech's rules. If you are overly sensitive then the report button is there for you.

Ooooh, the training arena, how scandelous and proud they must feel to of angered and agrivated all 6 players in there with their ideals.
-
I'm pretty confident in saying that skuzzy does not feel indebted to those who cavalierly hit the report button.
-
But I will say that you have opened my eyes somewhat and I will be watching everything that you post for you. Just in case you stray. You're welcome.

Probably nobody.

Because he's the AH equivalent of the Hall Monitor.

There is so much win in this thread.
So much, it shouldn't go to waste.
So, let's list things people should be reported for posting.
I'll start.

Since you've never logged in or registered for FlameWarriors, let alone post anything in that forum I really don't think you should make any claims on how that board is run or moderated. In fact, that board is probably better moderated than this one but again, since you've never logged into or posted on FW you really wouldn't know these things.

99% of the board is unavailable to non-members. There is no way you have "read quite a bit of it."

was checking out flamewarriors, i havent created an account or anything over there. but to me all it looks like is a place where old men go to cuss at eachother because they cant follow the rules on this forum.
because i guess saying the "f" word every other sentence makes you look like the intelligent one? :headscratch:

again, (as stated previously) if you haven't a login, you only see that one lightly-trafficed area. It's mostly a place where we can argue about politics, something Hitech has concluded doesn't further his business, and something squeakers either care little of or don't comprehend

Hmm, this is an interesting question. How could I conclusively prove that I am who I say I am? I can prove what I do know about things past, but I can never prove where my knowledge ceases. In that case, I can only prove that I am at least 14.
However, let's apply that to you. How on earth are we to know who you are? For all we know, you could be a dog who can type. (Note, dog is not to be interpreted as a slang word). There is an inherent flaw in your argument as well. You cannot prove a negative, only a positive. Therefore you could only prove me to be an age, but not to be not an age.
Moreover, why does the forum community believe Plawranc? Am I too abrasive to be so young? Furthermore, if I am a shade, whose shade am I? What leads you to think that way?
I aim not to troll, though my words bring ruin. It's my fault, and there is no excuse for it.
-Penguin
I don't think you're young because you may or may not be abrasive, I think you're quite young because you seem to think you know EVERYthing, a most telling sign ;)

nope, crowdsourcing of sorts. It makes sense just from a network perspective. Pragmatically too, mods can't be everywhere all the time. Next question might be - how much overhead does Skuzzy get from false positives?
Its sad.
Nah. It all reads like a major softie, no street smarts. You only fail to realize the futility of "metacognition" for its own sake if you grew up sheltered. Assuming it's not a troll.

Playing out of turn? Cards under the table? The most I have done is squelch sqeakers. I didn't think the C word was possible...
-
Or... Which annoys him more? A minor rule violation or a dozen tattletales rushing to report it?
I'll answer that.
A valued poster is one who participates and works to maintain the goals we have for our forums. The rules are there to provide a guideline to what we want to see on our forums.
Those who do not respect those rules are not good for the community, at large. Those that would help to remove those persons from the board are better for the community, than those who would support the breaking of the forum posting rules.
The person reporting has not more say about what happens on this board, as a report is just a flag notifying HTC there might be a violation of the forum posting rules. I see it as a good neighbor who watches my house for me while I am away. I would certainly hope they would call the police if someone broke into my house, and not worry about being called a "tattletale".
again, (as stated previously) if you haven't a login, you only see that one lightly-trafficed area. It's mostly a place where we can argue about politics, something Hitech has concluded doesn't further his business, and something squeakers either care little of or don't comprehend
Not true. The discussion of politics and religion were barred from our forums due to the community, at large, proving they could not discuss those topics in a rational and respectful manner. We also have far too many people who have no idea how to stop themselves from making side commentary in threads, which do not add anything constructive to the actual topic.
-
That's pretty much what I meant--a hundred people frothing at the mouth over competing religions, abotion, etc., putting hideous things to print...makes it look like HT is giving tacit approval to it all, and I'm sure some more easily-offended folks probably quit their accounts over it. Really hasn't much to do with whether WW2 pilots used their flaps in combat or not. I liked the forum better before, but I certainly understand it.
-
Just noticed this LMAO thats funny
Dude. If the OP itself wasnt a flamebait or a troll. Then there is no such thing. There is no way this thread could have gone other then the way it did
But...whatever

It was a factual statement, not a comparative one. I could care less about how it is outside the forums and am glad I do not have to moderate any further than this forum.
