I started working on a new control method for tanks last week. It will be similar to the control system in WoT in that movement will be controlled via aswd from any position.
The new system will account for the different turning abilities of wheeled and tracked vehicles including tanks that could have the tracks turn opposite directions.
Main gun control will be available from the commanders position.
We will also be redoing sights to match the real world counterparts.
I have not played much yet with optic clarity, but I have a few ideas to see how they work.

I have to say this type of information from HTC really keeps my optimism high. If AH is able to implement a more accurate movement model of each gv that is going to open up a whole new realm in AH. I can see StuG's, Hetzers, Su-100's, and a number of other turret-less gv's in AH's future. :D
Also, I REALLY wish and hope that HTC is able to model realistic tank sights. Give the German optics their due. I've always cursed that T34/85 that was able to sit out at 2800 yards and match my Tiger or Panther's accuracy shot for shot when in reality the odds of Soviet optics being able to see that far in a clear manner were slim. Plus, the 5X zoom of the Tiger and Panther's should account for something vs the 2.5 zoom of the T34. Looking through Soviet optics was probably like looking though a glass of tea when compared to German optics. Of course, I cant find any actual examples to prove that, but the testimony is there. I saw a US Army document grading tank optics of WWII, and it put the Germans on top and themselves and Soviets on the bottom. British and Japanese were in between somewhere.

The new controls - That's really cool.
damn... Gun control from cmdr position... We asked this a long time ago and finally we get it. Excellent!
The sights sounds like good improvement too, but split tracks controls and gun control from top position is just great. Curious to see if remote turret control gets slaved to axis like steering is to e.g. rudders, or 1/0 button/key control for bearing and elevation, or some kinda cardinal command, E.G. 0/45/90/135/... bearing commands.

When this gets implemented in the game, I will be tanking alot more

In fairness, there is at least a small degree of difference in the optics as targeting from the T-34 is much more like looking through a soda straw. The magnification might not be very different, but the field of view certainly is.
Regardless, more accurate modeling of the differences would be much better. :aok

I really think that you guys are right in the fact that GVing in AH will become so much more realistic. I honestl got sick of every tank having mopre or less the same range optics and the fact that they are going to remodel steering is just excellent. It gets to be a pain in the arse turning to engage armor that is moving to flank you and your going slower than molasses. I think it will give Armor its due as the T34 for instance could traverse on its tracks much quicker than say a Tiger. Lets see what happens and hope for the best~! :rock

WHERE did you find this?? this thread makes me so happy lol

I agree. Having the same gun sights, same quality of optics, and same turning characteristics leveled the playing field. The Panther and Tiger ruled the battlefields as the did not just because of armor, firepower, and crew proficiency, but optics played a huge part as well. For the Panther the ability to pivot in place and keep the front towards specific enemy targets made a difference as well. As for the T34, I'm under the impressing that it did not have the ability to have opposite turning tracks, correct?
Many people do not realize just how different things are going to be if and when the gun sights get modeled correctly. Not only will the reticule cross hairs and range "notches" change, but the field of views will change as well. The British Firefly has a 3X and 6X zoom, and the Tiger and Panther a 2.5X and 5X zoom. The M4A3/76mm has a fixed 5X, and the T34's both has 2.5X just as the Panzer IV. It appears that some tanks have accurate field of views while others have far more than what they actually did. Case in point: currently the Firefly can be zoomed in all the way and the 3200 yard mark is still easily visible when it only actually had a 9 degree field of view at 6X using the No.43 x 3 ML Mk.III/I tank sight; 9 degrees is a small field of view.
I wonder if HTC is going to model a binocular zoom (7X?) from the open hatched commander's view? :D

This new movement system won't change very much for me if a four foot shrubbery still stops my tank in its tracks.
Especially considering I may not be able to see where I'm driving as I'm firing.

and if a little tree branch is able to stop my tigers 8mm shell mid-flight.

Improved optics would be great . No more main gun kills of planes !!! Would like to see a button up or open cupola option to make it harder or easier to spot .

good call...the rock solid anti-tank vegetation is the worst part of gv us in ah...

In the history of the world a plane has most likely never been shot down by a tanks main gun. If a plane was even shot down by a tank it was an accidents and never reported or the Russians lied and said they did.
I am retired Army with one of my MOS's being 19D30 ( Cavalry Scout) We were cross trained in the M-48A5 and the M-60A3 tanks as drivers, loaders and gunners. Trust me when I say you can not track an aircraft with the main gun optics much less shoot at one.

So you're saying that it wouldn't affect the trajectory?

I wouldn't argue with any of that, but deck Lancaster formations didnt swoop in and drop 42 eggs on a Sherman EITHER

If they ever get a system for doing optical rangefinding, please bring it over the the ship guns.

Dont need to. Click on map and adjust fire from there. Yes, a poor mans compass and ruler but effective none the less. ;)

I posted a while back in a thread on this subject from a Soviet Sherman tank battalion commander about his claims. He claimed that there were times when their Shermans would fire their main guns at low flying attacking planes but that their .50 calibers were much better suited. He never said they scored any kills but he did say they did fire their main guns at planes.
ack-ack

I've been waiting for this...... :x

Cool! Someone who's actually done this stuff. I'm not asking this sarcastically, but seriously.
From your tank, forget about a plane circling. Assume something the size of a B24 or C47 that's making straight passes on you, back and forth straight over top of you, or even passing say, 20 yards to the side at 200 feet alt. You know he's there, you know he's coming, he's not maneuvering. You're also sitting on a mountain of ammunition that your life doesn't depend on. For all intents and purposes, as he's approaching, until he gets right on top of you, he's stationary.
Why couldn't you hit that? I don't doubt it didn't happen in the real world because it's such a low percentage shot and they'd need those rounds for more important things. However, why is it not possible, given unlimited ammo and a relatively stationary target?
