just did the noobest thing EVER! Took off from a cv in a f4u-1d(manual takeoff). Climbed to 12k. tried an attack run on a lower b24 box. while diving I spot a 109. turn to engage. At first merge, snap stall. I go, geez not again! second turn same and I dont seem to be able to handle that plane anymore. Fight with the stick a little :joystick:, stall a bit more and get shot down by the 109. Now, what happened I ask. So I go to film viewer. It happens I was flying that thing with the gear DOWN. Stupid me :rofl And the best part is I never realized it. Im surprised that he could take the shot. I would have been laughing so hard.
note to self : dont open the radio until the gear is up! :ahand

I had been playing for about a week or so, when the opportunity came up for me to fly a goon to a base-take.
I took off with about 3 other goons in trail. As goon leader they all followed me in a slow climb to the left. As we went along, someone came on vox and asked, "Uh, where are we going exactly?" I had no idea.
A big hill was rapidly approaching in the windscreen.
The last thing I heard was, "I hope we make it over this hill." We didn't. :lol
Left a pile of smoking wreckage all over that hill, and I felt like a total dufus. My friend, who was sitting next to me, still gives me a hard time about that one.

I've seen people use the Corsair's gear as airbrakes quite often. Nothing funny, other than you forgetting to raise them in the first place.

It isn't the stupidest thing I have done, but recently I was flying a P38J in a base defense situation. On the deck with bad guys everywhere. I have bad guys crossing my guns left and right and I am taking snap shots all over the place, and seeing hit sprites constantly.
Assist, assist, assist... I can't get a kill to save my life.
Then a squaddie asks on VoX what our fuel states are. That's when I realized that I still had my drop tank on and selected so the little squirts of snap shots were without the 20mm. Dropped the tank and scored several kills right away. DOH!
The stupidest thing was probably dropping the troops on the airfield instead of on town when I was a 2 weeker and offered to fly the goon for a Falcon23 mission. But in my defense, I was new and didn't know any better. :rofl

Bout three years ago I joined a POTW mission and our flight lead flew the whole attack package into a mountain trap. Someone filmed it it was hilarious epic fail.

OK here is a NOOBISH thing I recently did.
We were fighting over a base for a good 2 hours when we got the upper hand. I volunteered to take the goon. I had set my goon on auto climb while I went and did some necessary drainage of the the alcoholic beverages I was consuming. Well the phone rang and it was a friend who was at the time flying for another country. I sat there and got tied up in the conversation when he asked me what I was doing, well I was a dummy, with a capital DUHHHH, I told him. he says to go look at my screen and tell me what I see.
I go to my computer and I see I am surrounded by approximately 15 enemy planes, now not being one to let them get the upper hand i turn slightly to see if they would shoot at me they didn't. I asked my friend where he was and he replies "which plane is wiggling their wings" .. I identify it to him and he say "yuppers that is me" , he then informs me that I have one chance to turnaround and RTB. I in type in my squad channel what is going on, my squad comes over and protects me and shoots down all said enemy planes.
After going through all this I make it to the field we were attacking and I open the doors and set my salvo to 10 and let the "Field Suppplies" fly.
All I can say is "WTF.... DUHHH you schmuck. I did not live that down for along time."

rearmed a 262 the other day w 4 kills. rolled down the runway while chatting to squaddies and completely forgot I wasnt on auto-takeoff. only realised when it was too late and I was 1/2 mile off the end of the runway, steaming towards some trees at about 200mph.

This I have done!
Yesterday, maybe 3 times, I forgot to put my gear down. Once I told my squaddies I'm rearming only to belly land.

rolling supps to a base and just land when you get on the concrete, without dropping the said supps of course (happened several times).

One of the first times I flew a 262 I rolled in on a low set of b-26s. I passed by there tails at warp speed and proceeded to make a large crater on the beach. The 26 pilot sent me a friendly PM along the lines of "dude, what the hell did you just do?" After I got over being pissed it was pretty darn funny.

When i finally earned enough perks to up a 163 i took one up to attack a box of lancs headed to the HQ! was at a high 3 about 5k over then turned to make a pass on all three! Well as you know a 163 compress rather easily. I did all i could think of to get it under control as i plummeted downward from 20k at mach 3 hahaha! If craters from crashes were modeled i would bet it would have been a crater of epic proportions!

^This, except mine was when I decided I wanted to drive an M3 and help capture a field. I upped at the spawn to find plenty of enemy GVs and a nice big tank battle going on. I manage to not get killed even though I think no fewer than a dozen rounds impacted near me during the frantic drive, weaving back and forth across open terrain to be harder to hit. There were at least 3 other guys also taking M3s at the same time as me, and I watched a couple of them get nailed as we got closer to town... there was a T34 waiting on the edge of town. Ack was down and white flag, but enemy armor waiting. CRAP! I turn hard right and head towards the beach, hoping to put distance between him and me so he wouldn't get a clear shot at me, and hope he was the only tank nearby. YES!! I'm in town, screaming down narrow streets and ramming bushes and buildings trying to navigate the roads and find the map roon, expecting to turn every corner and find an enemy tank waiting to slaughter me. YESSS!! There's the map room.... OMFG - it's undefended, and I have made it ALIVE!!! Slide to a stop, open doors............

Several guys asked me if troops were running yet. I told 'em I got killed. :rofl
No way was I going on vox and telling what I had just done!

Jumped on Aces High for a B-29 run. Got on the runway, throttle full, RPM full, WEP on, I'm rolling. End of the runway is approaching, I start slowly pulling back on the stick. I know I'm heavy but I'm a little surprised I haven't seen the nose rise yet. I catapult off the runway (had a good dip at the end) and raise gear. By now I'm positive I've got the speed to get control of my plane, I pull back on the stick again, nothing happens...
BAM! Right into the side of the hill.
What the hell happened!?
Oh... Didn't have my joystick plugged in. :bhead I've got an X52 and my throttle was plugged in, but not the joystick. DOH

One time I bailed out over the map room and opened my chute at the last second. The enemy was closing in with troops, and I had to get to the maproom with my .45, pronto. The moment was thrilling, but I wanted something more. I reached into my pocket and took out a lollipop and put it into my toon-mouth, grabbed a pair of scissors out of my other pocket and ran like the wind.
I realized later that that was a fool-hearty thing to do...

I know! What was I thinking? I'm not entirely sure you get new toon eyes and throats in the hangar either...
(Sometimes I lay in bed unable to sleep when I can't stop my brain from thinking about what may have happened.)

Sunbat, that's dangerously close to removing your genius status in my eyes... Sorry to say, man. Although the fact you survived it clearly shows you've got some kind of smarts.
I've done several of the things listed here, one of the more annoying was driving supplies to a base and exiting instead of dropping them. My most common stupidity is forgetting what loadout I've got on a plane I don't use that often, and then discovering I was trying to dogfight in an F6F carrying 2x1000lb and rockets, and wondering why it's handling so heavy.

That's funny Wiley but one of my squaddies, who shall remain nameless, can top that or anything else for that matter:
An enemy T34 was in our HQ, and had completely destroyed the whole thing. Radar was down, so Me and ________ flew over to HQ in goons to resupply. We got there and I dropped the airfield supps for HQ. Well, _________ didn't have airfield supps. Fail. As the vehicle supplies floated down to the bingo T34 I could not do much more than facepalm over and over again until my forehead went numb. :D

LOL! That's... up there. Actually resupplying the enemy when he's helpless... Thanks for sharing that.
Now by process of elimination, it probably wasn't Ink, as he doesn't seem like the resupplying type. It crosses my mind that maybe you're saying it was your "squaddie" that brought the vehicle supplies when in actuality it was you who did so... Juggler's too new... hmm... so many possibilities. Time to build a spreadsheet... :D

Just off hand here. First time in 163, I collided with a 234. 1st time with 262 - collided with tree... took 262 about 30K to intercept some Bombers heading to our HQ - Dove on a vtard from 15K in a 262 - I'm pretty sure my wreckage was found and salvaged in China by now....

I had been playing for about 1 year. and decided to join a mission, we quickly killed the town but our goon got shot down we had a good cap. so I augered a brought a goon, as I approached town I got killed by ack, I yelled at the guys on chanel that ack was up, they yelled back that it was down, i brought another goon and quickly got killed by ack. i started yelling again that ack was up, that's when they mentioned that they didnt see me anywhere near town. that's when I noticed that I had been going to the wrong base. for a couple of months after that they wouldnt let me bring a goon.

After dropping bombs, wing tanks, Rkts, etc., not selecting back to guns regardless of aircraft, if neglecting cannons, really bad, but could be the other half of your 50 cals. Wort part is landing, then figuring it out, or getting killed after shooting a bunch of small arms holes in the wings of the guy that killed you. :old:

In my career I think I've flown at least 3 Corsairs off the back of the CV, by forgeting to raise my tailhook before taking off again :O It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't train people in these planes :rofl

I think it was day 2 playing AH, on some map that we don't see very often...and I don't remember it's name. Someone called for an M3 to capture a base and I jumped into one and off I went.....for a 2 1/2 sector drive. Yep...didn't know about the spawn point buttons on the clipboard. Needless to say, I only went 1/2 a sector before the base was captured. In the end, I ended up rolling the blasted thing to boot. :bhead

big GV battle about a week ago,I asked if anyone needed supplies
a BIG YES rang out,so i run supplies to the nearest tank which is runnin for his life with no ammo!
I drop supplies right in front of him and move on,he asks HEY...where are those supplies?!?!?!?!?
I said I just dropped them,I did not realize you could not drop supplies at full speed! :bhead

when i was playing online, there were a bunch of craters at the end of the runway, i had 3 b-24s. i was like :headscratch: what to do, what to dooo...pulll uuuppppp!!!!!!!... and promptly lost my back half. :o

Off the top of my head:
Dive bombing with a B-29 (never, ever ever...EVER do that)
On approach to land 9 kills in a tempest. I was going a bit to fast so I wiggled the rudder to slow down and go the message "don't move your controls around so fast) and promptly turned a tree into a 10th kill : /
Saw an enemy airplane taking off from their base, zoomed in to vulch with a couple rockets, pickled 2 1000lb bombs instead, the resulting explosion got us both.
Wanted to dump speed before final again. This time in a la7. Cut throttle, pull up left aileron, right rudder. My plane then proceeds to swing the tail around hard, airspeed hits zero, I drop like a brick.
An enemy airfield is deacked. I land my b25 right behind the runway hoping for a vulch (evil grin) A Il2 spawns super super close to me. I launch a pumpkin, we both die.

Something similar here. Here's one of many stupid things I've done. Was asked to bring troops to capture a small airfield. Everything was going great. I had my line on the town and auto-level and all.
Made sure I had my salvo set to ten. Open door. It's time to drop. There IT goes? A big ol' chute of field supplies. I never changed course, just went full manifold with my head in shame...

in a whirble defending a town from enemy. I'm turreted at the map room with my hull gun pointing at the map room for troops. once the LVTs finally let the troops go i shot them... seemed normal. usual defense...
---till i saw an enemy pilot come out of OUR map room and point his gun at me and start shooting :huh
stupidest thing i've DONE:
few years ago i flew off a CV in an F4U4. got to the enemy base and said to myself... i feel slow... hmm... gears up... what is it? as soon as i engage my first enemy of the night and he's on my six i realize, FLAPS! the auto takeoff flaps were still down :lol

I don't know but it always makes me cranky when someone does. The sad thing is I just get in a bad mood and lash out at people when I eat my cheerios rather than trying to figure out why they had a slight ammonia taste.
One day I will learn. Until then, you should ignore.

In a 262 coming up on a B17's low 6, then I realized that I - uh got it a bit wrong. My tail clipped the B17's and came off. The front of my 262 flipped end over end above and in front of the B17 and I collided a 2nd time.

The tailhook backflip off the cv was truly a facepalm moment. I also remember a 6k base where gvs could come screaming down the hill. Well lets just say I lost the drift, but almost saved it. "As yooouuuuu wissshhhh!"

This is how I met my squad!
I was looking for a base to up from, and I saw a lot of action around a carrier. Someone was typing out on Text "TURN C28 TURN C28 BOMBERS OVERHEAD!!!" So I took control of the carrier and turned it!
It just so happened that an entire squad was sitting on the carrier to take off together and had just started to roll when I turned it! They all fell off the side and went for a swim in the drink! They were yelling and throwing a fit! All I could do was apologize, as I was just turning the carrier like someone wanted me to.
They straightened it out and all formed up on the carrier again. About 20 planes or so sitting there on the deck waiting to take off. Right then the bombs hit, killing EVERY ONE of them! It was FRIGGIN HILARIOUS! :lol :lol :lol
I don't know who was more stupid.. them or me, but I still fly with them today!

When it takes full power to taxi to the apron, you know you need to lower your landing gear.

I saw a base flashing and no radar cons so I figured it was GV's, Naturally I upped an A20 and half way down the runway a T34 comes flying across my screen, naturally I ram into it and explode.
Also took off from a 262 few days ago when it was only 126 perks, I chose the wrong runway because there was a decent size hill on the end of it, I figured I could get enough speed to get over it - which is true I did - however I had my "ground graphics" set for 0.5 miles and failed to see the tree's.
