Last night I see a "fellow" nameless Knight already engaged in a tussle with 1 and another bogey inbound on him lookin for an easy pick. I give the obligatory "check six" and get to the fight as soon as my lil zero can get me there..... I take care of the "interrupter" in very short order and low and behold, what do I hear squeak across VOX.... "it's about TIME!" Briefly confounded by my "teammate's" gratitude or lack thereof (he was still alive and kicking vs his original bogey) I responded "Excuse me?" to which he responded repeating what I had just uttered albeit in a squeaky/feminine manner.... After a few carefully chosen words I proceeded to let the BnZ'n La7 do his thing on the "friendly" F6F and much to my delight one of the last things I saw as I looked over my shoulder headed away from the fight.... was the "friendly" F6F explode into the prettiest fireball.

Wait till you hear the 'one guy' who cusses constantly on range because he was not given a check 6.
-
That's always a no win situation it seems.

gotta love kids like that...

I like those people... I follow them around giving them check 6s up until someone gets behind them. :devil

When that happens, I have a difficult time suppressing the urge to repeatedly spam them with 6 calls for the rest of the evening, regardless of their situation.
It is nobody's job to watch your six but your own. Appreciate the six call if it comes, but do not rely on it, and for the love of pete do not squeak about it when it's not there. Other people are doing their own thing, and have better things to do than constantly watch you do yours.

While I agree with you gents regarding 6 calls, there is one situation that is worthy of a good whining.
This is when you get shot down by an un-seen bandit, and on the way down you look back to see several friendlies on his tail.
DON'T USE PEOPLE FOR BAIT!
It's rude.

WTG Nishi!!! its a sign you will go far in AH!! :D

Guys like that I will not clear their six or in the future give them a check 6 call. However, when I see them with a bandit on their six while they are trying to shoot down a bandit at their 12, I will clear the bandit on their 12 and laugh as the bandit on their six takes them out. Schlowy4 found that out when he whined about how I didn't give him a Check 6 one night.

Last night I had taken a F4U-4 over a gv battle (hoping to ward off those egging either side) and find none. After AFK for a smoke, I come back and see skyrider on range and he kindly warns me of a Spit16 that is making it's way up to me. The Spit16 sees skyrider and rolls back his way to cherry pick him as he has both alt and E on skyrider. On VOX I ask if skyrider could use a hand (I don't remember what ride sky was in) and he says "Sure". The Spit16 takes a b&z on skyrider and then hauls scalded dog for the ack at the base he took off from right down to the deck. In the F4U-4, it takes almost a sector but we're still a few K from his base and I start lighting him up with 50 cals. He goes vertical and rolls over...skyrider, who was also in hot persuit, quickly tears the Spit16 to shreads.
Why the long story?
It's an example of countrymates working together, being courteous, and helping each other in a positive way.
Skyrider gave me a heads-up on VOX. When the Spit16 turned on skyrider, I gave him a heads-up and asked if he needed help. Between the two of us the con is dead and no one is angry, bent out of shape, or ego bruised because of the respect both countrymates showed in the engagement.
With some people in game think everyone else is supposed to be a mind reader. It doesn't work that way. Short, consice, accurate information can really help. One of the old jokes years ago was "Thou are responsible for thine OWN six".
I can't tell you how many times I DO hear others giving me "Check 6" or equivilent on VOX. I try and do the same for every countrymate I see in peril or possible peril. As a result, I take every check 6 I get as a "gift"...as well as help when I need it and the courtesy of others to butt out if I don't.
Long story short...RESPECT and COURTESY go a long way. :aok
For those who lack the two--just brush it off and go on. Taking the high road pays dividends down the way in this game.

I have uttered those same words to fellow Knights who have cleared my six before, but usualy sarcasticly or after having more holes in my plane than adequate words to procreate out of my mouth.

agree on that one lol not even being shot down, its looking back to see a badguy 600 off and seeing 3 friendlies 200 off him trying to saddle him, lol i dont say much on range but that will get a what the heck are you doing from me :bhead

I appreciate the "check 6's" I get but usually they are uncalled for because i've seen the bandit already...but I say thanx, I try to give checks out, but I have a long list of tards that I wont check their 6 or come to their rescue even if they ask. and if someone comes to my "rescue" that's when Ill get aggravated, I want to fight it out no matter what, hell I was fighting four cons and got pissed when someone "rescued" me.
respect and honor is not something automatically givin, and once someone loses that from me its very difficult for me to see that person in anything but less then in a stellar light.

HOSS/GUNS06/AZRAEL/Stonecut/ whoever knows what shades he's had, can often be over heard on range channel cussing randomly.

I get less upset with a no check 6 than I do after having a nice 1 v 1 and finally saddling the bandit up (if it's not reversed) and having a "hero" clear my 12. I also have a couple of select individuals that I refuse to give check 6's too and I use them as bait all the time. And I normally try to kill the bandit "after" the jackwad is dead.
-
I always welcome check6's as I tend to get absorbed in the fight and get a tad lazy to look around. Id have flown thru the friendly's bullet streams though.

Your 6 is your responsibility. You check your own 6. If you die from a con that you didnt see. Well, your SA sucks. :aok

agreed. all check sixes you get are gifts. look at your own six (you're fellow countrymen cant always be relied on) and make sure your countrymen CAN rely on you. no more

There's about half a dozen guys whom I know and like. The rest are something else. And, unfortunately, I can/do join the ranks of the "something else" crowd too frequently. But am working on that. Need to have a self-squelch option.
Varying motives, maturity, and physical/mental conditions make AH quite the personality furball.

I've been in situations before watching a con creep up my 6 with several friendlies behind, thinking to myself, "I wonder if any of those guys are gonna send a check six?"
When they don't, they were using me as bait and thus are dweebs.
-
On a flight I began to give out 6 calls repeatedly to a certain (will remain nameless) player who made little effort to avoid the con. He got his arse flamed then began yelling at me because I didn't give him a 6 call. I stated that I clearly called it out several times to which he stated, you idiot, you should have used the check 6 button because I couldn't understand you. He of course had no problem understanding me just seconds later as we politely discussed the matter. I understand and incidentally have reprogrammed my stick to do just that although the instances of errant checks with multiple players in view has increased which is probably worse.
You know I apologize if you didn't hear my 6 call the effort was there. And those choice words, well they were very nice of ya :noid
Incidently he immediately changed countries he was sooooo mad :lol

Don't expect anyone to watch out solely for your best interests. I probably only spend 30% of the time looking forward, 10% out my 3 or 9, and 50% to my high/low six. I get blamed a lot for not checking someone else's six.
Guy screamed at me the other day on range, about not giving him a check six. He got bounced about 2.5K away from me (I think). He cursed me up one side and down the other asking why I didn't "check six".
I replied, "The red P51 that was 1000 off my 730 diving from 12K was my only concern".
He didn't reply back.
-
I try to be nice and check6 others but I don't expect any in return as others have already stated my 6 is my responsibility.
-

You 100% sure HOSS used to be Guns06?

I like throwing out a "Hey anyone see if my 6 is clear ? " during situations like that, most of the time answers are apologetic but some of them have been "creative". I've even been told, "Sorry Zoney but my check 6 button wouldn't work".
It's all good.
-

Guns06 was not Biggamer. Previously to being "Biggamer", his name was "Bigamer" and he changed it to "Biggamer" because we all made fun of him one day and hurt his feelings. He then switched his recently to "Azreal" to hide from the bad reputation he garnered from his time as "Bigamer" and "Biggamer".

hes right about that... :headscratch: you take care of your six like its your kid. make sure no one hurts it. you cant rely on others to care for it right? although many do try to help as much as they can :aok
-
check6 button is almost worthless compared to range vox calling a con when hes starting his dive 5k out, or even just calling inbound badguys when your busy.
if I get a check I always reply even if Ive seen him. that way friendlies get an idea of how good your SA is. I always thank the friendly if its a good check*, that way he might save your life the next time :aok
people really do appreciate decent comms, and it counts for alot in a furball. nothing more annoying than flying in total radio silence when you can tell easily by the way theyre flying that the enemy are talking to each other. :bhead
* by good check I mean timely and describing the threat, or if its very late just what to do about it. anywhere from info: "headsup xxxx, coupla 190s inbound 15k ish" so the friendly can build his SA picture and decide what to do about it, to instruction when the friendly doesnt have time: "xxxx six! break! break!"
-
So what I'm gathering from all these uber stick jockey types is that I might as well remove the check 6 function from my keyboard.
It's not my responsibility to help anyone and therefore I won't.
At least, not the ones that are on the list I've just started.
:neener: :aok

I still use the check6 button sometimes. I mean if your callsign is 5xU8egs you'll be dead before Ive worked out how to pronounce it :D

Regarding SA, along with enemy altitude (a vital piece of information,) a quick "190 down" or "190 is a Dora" is useful.

I prefer a VOX shout out myself. You can give a lot more help then a generic 6 call. Friendly might see the 109 and think that's what the call was for but, if you say "n00b, check pony" he/she/it may live to keep fighting. . . Unfortunately, this is often impossible because you have a bunch of jackwagons cluttering up local with pissin' and moaning or other bs.

Honestly, unless I'm around people that I know know what they are doing, I rely on my own monitoring of my situation more than anything. I don't know how many times someone has "checked six" , then started VoXing "MORAY BREAK NOW.. P-51!!!!!!" when the P51 in question was D200 in front of me, taking taters into his cockpit.
I know they mean well, but my own SA is primary to any "checks" given out by others.
