So no one has commented yet on the new M3 featured on the main page... the new M3 that can be loaded out in the hanger with the 75mm gun?
:rock :rock :rock
Really and truly (since the armor is about the same) this is "M-18 Lite"
-
That is going to bun to try out
-
It looks great! :rock
-
Very nice! :rock
-
looks sweet WTG Waffle
will it no longer appear neon green amongst the terrain?
-
highspeed tank busting action :aok
-
Looks great! :aok

This is one of the best things HTC has done as far as re-modeled AH planes and gv's. The only thing that tops the new M3... is the re-modeled Mossi Mk VI! :D
WTG HTC!!!!!!!!!! :salute :)

Hands down the sexiest addition to the game as of yet!
This thing looks amazing, Waffle did it all by himself too.

The caption says "new configurations". I wonder if that includes doing away with a separate M16 MGMC selection and including that variant under that same M3 chassis, but choosing that option in the hanger??? It would make sense. Similar to the M4A3/75mm and the option of mounting the Calliope rocket launcher on top: same vehicle different load out.
I just looked up the AP performance of the 75 mm gun M1897A4, at 1000 yards it can defeat approximately 32 or 43mm of armor at 0 degrees, depending on which AP ammo HTC chooses (odd though, the older AP round penetrates better). So don't plan on doing much but ambushing and hoping for that side or rear shot, it appears. The HE capability seems to be pretty revered though, as does the rate of fire at 20 rounds a minute ("with an experienced crew", according to my source)!
-
And who says HTC doesn't care for it's customers? THANK YOU HTC!!! :aok
-
lol HTC is working lightening fast theese days. This m3 rocks! :rock

No kidding!
Looks great, maybe the C47 isn't far behind.

Thank you HTC!! I've been waiting for this remodel for awhile.

This is going to be one of the biggest updates to date!
Well done Waffle, HTC

WTG HTC keep up the good work :aok

Wooohooooooo! WTG HTC & Waffle :aok

Bumped an old skin request (Dec. 2010) that TUK made for the M3. :D
Tank drive changes, A6M3 addition, A6M2 remodel, M3 remodel...*drools* When the updated M3 makes it's appearance, I think the first couple of hours will see a swarm of M3-75's hitting a town and/or field with another swarm of M3-75's running out to defend. M3 on M3 action! haha
I wonder if we'll see updated Jeeps and M8's next week... :headscratch: :x Personally, if they decided to take this time to bring everything up-to-par, I wouldn't mind. :D Either way, wheeee!!!! :x :x :x
-
Very cool. My question is... When you're hauling troops, can you look in the cargo area and actually see said troops or will it be an empty bed like now?
-
Screenshots shows an empty bed.... But that may change when it gets updated, or it just happens that there is nothing loaded into it? Only Waffle can tell us since he's the one doing it.
-
Looks good :aok
-
Where are the wings? I don't think this thing is gunna fly. :O
-
not to be a downer.. but just how many shots would that carry? or would it come with a supply trailer? jeeps with supply trailers? drop (re)supplies like you do now?
still looks cool. :aok
-
:aok
-
Looks great. Now if only people couldn't turn off bushes and trees so you could actually hide to ambush someone. :)

lots of attack planes with cannons rackin' kills, perhaps even practicing rocket attacks :D

Awesomeness M3.... Would also love to see a Ju52....

It had 19 rounds in the "ready" position right below the gun, and another 40 in storage compartments. The round itself is not all that big, I have not been able to directly cross reference it yet, but it appears at least by looks be the father (or maybe even the same as) of the US's 75mm used in the M4 Sherman tanks. I am sure someone else will chime in on this one.

The M3 GMC used the 75 mm gun M1897A4, which as the US version of the "French 75", since it was based on the French 75mm howitzer from World War I. It shouldn't fair too badly against a Panzer IV, depending on how it's employed but will probably end up as nothing more than a moving target for the Panther or Tiger.

This update looks like it'll be a good one.

Looks awesome, but I still agree with BAR and Dire Straights
"I WANT MY M18"

Is that a new model for the treads?

:x :x :x :rock :rock :rock M3 with a boom stick! :D :aok

Hard to tell... Judging from the picture below, I'd guess either 36 or 48 rounds for a basic load; the ten rounds stacked on the left side and the remnants of a similar stack on the right don't look like they'd survive being driven around roughly without being thrown out of the vehicle or bouncing around the interior.
Either way, there doesn't seem to be much room left for supplies of any kind, or for more troops than the regular crew.
Update: Searching around the Net, the basic load for the M3 GMC appears to have been 59 rounds.

The rounds are contained in a rack, and it should not carry a full set of troops.

I posted AP performance earlier in the thread at 1000 yards. It will defeat 32 or 43mm at 0 degrees, depending on which AP round HTC chooses. The HE round compares very closely with the 75mm on the Sherman, and it even has more velocity which gives it a flatter trajectory.

already thinking of positioning the M3 GMC in and around town chokepoints. would work very well there without aircraft

nice update and what AA said

Oh great! Something else that's going to kill me. :rofl :rofl
Great job Waffle!
-
no  :bhead
:rofl LOL, I want the M18 too, but think about it, this addition of the M3 as a gun platform really does have a lot in common with the M18....
Both are fast
Both are lightly armored
Both can be killed with machine guns
:lol

Was wondering if the cannon model would be able to carry troops. Looking at the ammo loadout, I'm figuring no.

This may help answer questions regarding the mounted 75MM gun.

fast, mobile arty. I can see fast runs to take down shore batts. quick runs to town to start reduction before defenses can respond. running out to meet and bushwack GVs headed for town or field. much more useful the the 251.

Apple vs orange. A very big advantage the 251 had over the M3 was its ability to traverse rougher terrain and through snow and mud better (not an issue in AH obviously). Speed is not the only factor when comparing the 251 and the M3, even in AH. ;)
Perhaps HTC will add more variants of the SdKfz 251 chassis?
251/9: 7.5cm infantry gun. Very similar to what we have on the LVT-4.
251/21: triple MG151/20. 20mm AA or infantry support.
251/22: 75mm Pak 40 (same as Panzer IV).

"Perhaps HTC will add more variants of the SdKfz 251 chassis?"
Sure, when hell freezes over.

I agree. Hope and pray! If there was a "catch all" in WWII, the SdKfz 251 was it.
-
75mm???
Just guessing it doesn't need a reverse gear!!
-
Is this the vehicle the allies dubbed the "The General Lee" in the africa campaign?
-
No that was the M3 tank with a 75 mm in a side sponson and a 37 mm in a revolving turret. A british version of that tank without the commanders 30 cal MG turret was called the Grant.
Or a funnier answer..
YES It was. It was painted bright orange and had a 01 on the doors.
-

Not that I know of i thought the General Lee was the "M3 Lee" the tank with 1 37 in turret and 75mm on right side of the tank.
I might be wrong and I am 99.9% sure I am, but hey I tried.

That creates a mental image so sick it's tempting to get a model of the M3 Lee and do it up in exactly that style, just to be ridiculous.

i like the way you think
:aok

I was thinking the same thing. If it has the fast rate of fire as it historically did (20-30 rounds a minute), then it will be great for roastin' weenies and making smores. :D

No kidding!
Looks great, maybe the C47 isn't far behind.
Called it! :aok
