I wish I could park like that :P

:O holy crap! :rock
-
Good control there.
-
Looks like he did it in the rain, it's harder to do it on dry surface.
-
i've done that on gravel.
totally intentionally too >.> really <,<

I thought it was harder to do in the rain cause the car can slide way to easily. Like i figure he wouldn't be able to stop to easily.

Your right it's harder to stop in the rain, but it's a lot harder to start the "slide" (proper term is not coming to my head) on the dry surface.

Drift?

We all have those days. I seem to have them more than most, though.

was gunna say break traction. :D
-
No skill involved there. Just another stupid driver that lost control under braking.

Loosing control is one thing, ended up where you want to be after you lost control is another.

Agreed.

Drift?
That is not a drift btw.

It was intentional, he merely cut the wheel and pulled the handbrake. Watch the video again. There a large element of skill there.

You could have italicized or underlined some words, if you want to pick knits...

Lol shows how little you know about russian cars (and with this I'm saying how lucky you have been not to have to mess with them!) Lada Samara along with many other models was notorious for imbalanced brakes (rear brakes lock before front ones in emergency braking) which causes it to spin off control and basically kill you. Notice how he narrowly missed the oncoming traffic there?
The guy was racing the SUV, had to brake suddenly and lost total control. So much for skill.

You know this because you were riding with him, correct?

Lucky there was no head on and death of a whole family.
Slow down, and don't tailgate. Even in good weather.

You'd have to be blind not to see that he was racing the G Mercedes passing traffic from right side, had to emergency brake when the G slowed down due to traffic and consequently lost control.
More skilled parking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fLW3OiH8OQ
-
I'm pretty sure it was not intentional, I don't think he could see the oncoming traffic from where he was. Pretty stupid to do something like that without making sure you're not going to end up as somebody's hood ornament first.
-
reminds me of when i first did a chop throttle jammed the stick back and left w/ full right rudder with a guy on my 6.

You describe it with all of the empirical authority of someone riding in the car, irregardless of the fact that there is no description of the video.
Looks like he regained control fairly expeditiously to me. Hence the absence of car parts scattered randomly all over the highway. In fact, there was hardly a bump when he hit the curb.
I'm not saying he was intentionally parking, but recovering from a skid like that, without crashing, requires a combination of skill, experience and luck.

ITS CLEAR he raced the G Merc and lost control. He was incredibly lucky the car stopped without breaking the wheels on the curb. At no point did he try to turn the steering wheel or do any visible control inputs. He spun wheels locked, front wheels straight untill he stoped to the curb. Just rewatched the vid.
The Lada driver was most likely drunk (there's a saying drunken luck just because of events like this). Recent study showed that 40% of Russian males are intoxicated every day in middle of afternoon.

Not from where I was sitting.
SUV screams by on the right ... then hard breaks for slower traffic.
Econo car screams by and doesn't realize the SUV had to break hard.
Econo car slams brakes on causing skid and then steers to the left to avoid possible rear ender with SUV ... which cause the rear end to slide to the right and the car to the left.
Econo car tool ... very lucky.

Looks like he hit the breaks and lost control. There was no parking lane where he parked and he had no visibility when the sliding started. I dont think he would pull a stunt like that without being able to see if there was on coming traffic.
-
Skill or not, it was cool either way.

+1 makes me beyond jealous too.
ladies..can we not have a pissing contest in here too? seen two other threads turn into a pissing contest in a 24 hour period.

Heh, just read Slaps post. What he said :aok

Isn't that what I said?

I'm assuming that was a friend videoing it. Why couldn't it have been the dash cam of a squad car?

This video was in the related video after the drift video ended. LULZ

Guy got damn lucky, it happens once in a while.

ok the car spin was cool but how about the next video after it.

What I see is a guy gaining the van ahead, you see his brake lights come on (which wouldn't happen with hand brake application) and he starts to slide.
Again, no skill, just luck he ended up next to the curb.
-

If he had recoverd he could have continued on down the road. The only thing driving that car was physics.
-
yep just luck.

Show me where I claimed it was on purpose and I'll acquiesce.
Without being there, one cannot make any claims about what the driver's original intentions were.
I can be pretty damn sure there was a conscious effort to not crash, once the tires broke loose though...
-
Isn't that what I said?
Yep, but not what the others said ;)
