are horendus(sp) to give it a compliment. Hes 19, and about as good with a computer as a new guy to the game is on his first flight.
He had issues with his computer the other day, I ran a scan with malwarebytes in safe mode, found 3 items. I removed them. Was good for a couple days then yesterday he had the same issue. Ran another scan in safe mode again and found 3 more items. removed them. I know Skuzzy has some strict Regs on what his computer allows to pass through. Wondering how to set up something similar to what the Skuzzinator has, but not nearly as strict.
if you need a DxDIAG let me know, I'll see if i can get a screenie and post it. :salute

Unfortunately since he's got horrible browsing habits then there's not much you're going to be able to do to block things. You can teach him how to use it properly, or you might consider a linux alternative.

ive told him to stay off a website if something pops up like "win a free 50" HDTV!". them are few and far between..but we all know they pop up every now and then. some on websites more then others...

Dude, no... it's easier than that.
Just go into the browser settings and disable active X, set things to NOT auto download (why the frak MSIE ever decided that was a good default setting, --- no telling WHAT they smoked that day), and go in and set the browser itself to not allow certain things.
That will greatly minimize the problems he is having without requiring a massive reformat, reinstall of a new OS, and teaching a non-tech-savvy person how to use a new foreign OS.
It's the easier way to go.

very simple...reload your brothers system with ubuntu or any linux...and don't give him root access...setup the firewall on it.
he can browse the retardnet all day and you won't have to worry about the stupid things he does...

so hes a PITA to use mine? dont think so. i could stat charging him though....

Well maybe you don't let him use yours. Password protect your login. Tell him to quit screwing up his own, or learn how to maintain it himself.
Might actually make him take the lesson to heart, if he knows he doesn't have yours as backup.

true true...

I let nobody use my desktop, and few people use my laptop. Both are password protected and don't have guest accounts :)

As silly as this sounds, watch him on a typical surfing night and see what he does.
I mention this as I had a friend whose computer got infected with a virus, and as he was debugging the machine, his daughter was watching over his shoulder.
A box from Norton popped up warning him that some attachment was a potential threat and was he sure he wanted to open it.
At this point his daughter chimes in and says "That stupid thing, again! I had to disable it so I could read what my friends send me.. "
:bhead
Poor guy..

I had to put a ah member into my spam folder as his computer was infected with some virus and kept sending me messages to go check out some web pages. I make it a point to never open attachments/links from anybody.

On some exploits you don't even need to open them. I hope your friend gets his stuff fixed.

sounds like a virus disabled update
got it to update 20 minutes after i edidted thatr post...his firewall wasnt on and it wouldnt turn on, could figure out why. tried in safe mode, nothin. turned it off, let it sit for a little, turned it back on tried turnin on the firewall for chits and giggles and it turned on fine. I was thinkin "odd :headscratch:" went to try and update Malware bytes..updated fine. dont know what it was that kept the firewall fro mturnin on (or why it was turned off to begin with), and why malware bytes wouldnt update. its all figured out so i cant complain too much.
