"A previously undisclosed, classified stealth helicopter apparently was part of the U.S. task force that killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan on May 1.
The exact type of helicopter is unknown but it appears to be a highly modified version of an H-60 Blackhawk. Photos disseminated via the European PressPhoto agency and attributed to an anonymous stringer show that the helicopter’s tail features stealth-configured shapes on the boom and the tail rotor hub fairings, swept stabilizers and a “dishpan” cover over a five-or-six-blade tail rotor. It has a silver-loaded infrared suppression finish similar to that seen on V-22s."

They sure did a crappy job destroy it before leaving.

They sure did a crappy job destroy it before leaving.
If that's the biggest piece of an entire helicopter, I'd say they didn't do too bad.
-
"silver-loaded infrared suppression finish...." What is that?

gunna have to call BS on this one no static discharge wicks in the stabilator, no tail position light, no IR or formation lights no dzeuss fasteners for the FM radio cover over the #4 drive shaft. and the tail rotor paddles look fake as hell.
for a start. It just doesn't look right other thing a regular hawk only has 4 main and tail rotor blades would mean a whole revamp of the a/c.

What are you saying, you thinking the pictures are fake??

Theres something about that tail that is very wrong. I just cant put my finger on it tho.
-
What are you saying, you thinking the pictures are fake??
either that or thats not a blackhawk, may be based on one but that would be a stretch...
nothing about it is right.
-
Perhaps it's a RAH-66 style transport? It definitely looks like it doesn't
belong to a Hawk.
-
I can't imagine it's fake.
What kind of helicopter is just assumption, I don't know enough to make any guesses. However, if it's a top secret helicopter, you can't really compare it to other standard helicopters.

another thing is you believe SF guys dont know how to hide their tracks, wouldn't be any thing left of the airframe. and if it was made of the same material as regular helos it would have burned to nothin pretty quickly.
Plus the tail rotors on the wrong side and from the pic there are no steps to get to the tail to check for maintenance or preflight. and one more thing our blades spin counter clock wise this suspect airframes blades are goin clockwise.

Judging from the article, and the pictures; I believe this part of the helicopter landed on the other side of the compound wall.
-
Vudu, they drew that picture wrong. If you look in the real photos the paddles are on the correct side.
And the foot pegs were what I knew was wrong. Thankyou, it was driving me nuts.
The stab dosnt make sense to me. The sides are flat. Also dont believe it to be swept forward. Vudu, do yalls have lockpins that enable the stab to be folded up?
-
on the lock pins No I'm in the army the Spec Ops guys and the Navy use those everyday hawk doesn't getem. at least A/L Models.
It just doesn't make sense to me, the main part of the airframe burned up pretty much in place but the tail flew over a wall... :headscratch:
and in one shot the driveshafts are all still connected to each other by what I would assume to be the viscous dampers. but the kicker with that is IF those shafts had hit anything they would be destroyed.
too many things that dont add up to me.

I just feel like you don't know enough to decide there is something suspicious going on. We've simply seen a few pictures and snippets of information, it just doesn't seem like enough information to me to be making assumptions.

Agreed. Put a hole in a #3 drive shaft once with a speedhandle and apex tip. Was pretty proud of myself. Until I realized that I just put a hole in the drive shaft...

looks to me like it broke it's tale off on the wall main body on one side tail on the other. Thermited the side they could get to and had to leave the rest. I am pretty much an expert because I played a video game once that had a helicopter in it. Oh and I used to dump handfulls of quarters in steel talons when I was younger.

well I only see and fly on em everyday and have pilots who I talk to often who used to be SF and Spec Ops so I might have just a very small hole to look through.....
I just sayin it seems real funny to me that a "stealth" a/c appears over night on a ridiculous mission that could have been done several years ago and it is a whole new design that no one has heard of.
yea call me crazy but I think its BS, and who still has the date that appears on their Pictures??? aint seen that ina bit.

Really? The fact that there is a date on the pictures is part of your theory? Really?
As for the the other part; "I just sayin it seems real funny to me that a "stealth" a/c appears over night on a ridiculous mission that could have been done several years ago and it is a whole new design that no one has heard of."
I'm not sure what you're saying actually, care to clarify?

I don't know about you, but if it were my new top secret multi million dollar
aircraft, I wouldn't want to fly it directly into a situation where it could be lost.
-
I don't know about you, but if it were my new top secret multi million dollar

How do we know it's new?
Isn't that the point of these aircraft and these teams, to go into high risk situations? You also don't want to lose a highly skilled and highly trained member of a SEAL team, so why didn't they send in mall security guards in VW vans?
-
No the date is not part of my "theory"
as for the other part we've had at least 2 times to get him that I know of but we best leave that alone before Skuzzy gets us.
But generally you hear of prototype a/c long before they every get out to do a mission. why is this one different? There is just something wrong with it.
Your normal SOP for this type of thing would have dealt with the problem. hell had airframes that couldn't be recovered shot with hellfires from Apaches (extreme case) but I'm sayin if they saw that piece they would have got it too.
Just seems like a whole lot of thing that dont add up. and untested airframe on a high profile mission only a piece of it left what were they ina hurry for? to bury the body (wouldn't be running from the Pakistanis).
-

Seal teams are highly experienced and trained in these types of conditions.
If it were a new design, it would be unproven in a situation like this.
All I'm saying is I wouldn't trust some newfangled untested design for such a high importance mission.

You hear about prototypes that you hear about, just because you hear about one doesn't mean you hear about them all. You don't hear about prototypes that they don't want you to hear about. You can't assume that if you didn't hear about, it doesn't exist.
Also, how can you talk about SOP in a situation like this. This was far from a standard operation by a standard team.
How do you know this is an untested airframe? You're still making assumptions based on very little real information.

Its all part of the show boys all part of the show.
Pull your heads out of the posterior portion of your anatomy.
Ya they had enough explosives to completely destroy everything but the tail rotor section.
My BS meter is Pegged. The guy died of renal failure and they had him under surveillance, he croaks in the middles of the night and they say hey how can we use this to our advantage. Plus the timing is all wrong. Why now if the have had him under surveillance for eight months.
We need a BS animation.

Again, how do you know this is a "newfangled untested design"?
Considering a Nightstalker crashed it on landing...

Actually, I think we have an adequate emoticon for this thread.

Regardless there are just too many things goin on here for this to be anywhere near normal. SOPs apply to everything even those situations that why they're in place for when stuff happens like this.

Every weapon system was new on the battlefield at some point and not tested.

Yeah know, that too me sounds very plausable. Ofcourse I believe in alot of conspiracies too. But do think you may be on to something there.
As far as animations go though, Most of mine would get me skuzzified if I posted them here. There out there though.

Whatever it doesn't matter now does it...perhaps its just disinformation and nothing really happened to the 2nd helo. They brought in a crashed and burnt up portions of a Blackhawk on the Chinook just to stir the pot.
-

Look at the actual pictures and not the artist rendition. Also if they were trying to make it a bit more stealthy, don't you think they would remove surfaces like steps to get to the tail? From the looks of it, it crashed and the tail hit the wall, breaking it off. The fact that the tail rotor has more blades than normal can be explained by the large plate you see. There is less surface area of the blades being exposed, so they needed more blades.
The rest of your argument about something "feeling" off doesn't hold merit in a logical discussion. From my perspective it looks like a helicopter was heavily modified to be, though not entirely, more stealthy.

An article from my local news station, notice the 'ding' in the wall to the

You need the steps to check that tail be fore and after flight and they retract into the tail pylon so how do they check that? they would need a stand. On the second part the tail hittin the wall. That's what I was thinking but I don't think those drive shafts would still be together after a hit like that. Now the burnt part of the wreck does look like a Hawk you can see 3 spindles 1 engine what looks to be one accessory gear box.
Now from my "feelings" I'm just a normal everyday crewchief on Hawks these guys are so high above me it ain't funny, but why would they try to land in that small compound? diameter on the main rotor alone is 53' 8" that place ain't big enough. plus you can be guaranteed they had satellite images of the landing places yet they still "crashed" there. again call me crazy but it seems real strange to me. The amount of experience and they wreck an a/c fail to completely destroy it. Then they just leave... :headscratch:

You're kidding me right?
If Bin Laden had died of renal failure, we certainly would have preferred he died of a cause that removed any chance of martyrdom.
-

This. Landing on a wall will wreck your day, lucky they survived.

or it could've been left there on purpose to show the Pakistanis a lil' something to worry about.... next time up it could be your nuke silos that get SealTeamSix'd ;)
:noid
-
Kinda like with the F-117, eh?
just what i was going to say... along with the B2...
-
but why would they try to land in that small compound?
I believe they were forced down, not that they were trying to land inside. How I originally heard the story (just what I heard that night, no source handy) is that they were going to rappel into the compound but ran into problems and was forced down.
-

I'm pretty sure if I die from my kidney's failing, they won't have to shoot me in the face and then not show the
pictures to everyone later to prove my death. The autopsy could prove pretty conclusively if he was on dialysis
as the needles they use leave quite noticeable holes.
If we didn't kill him and shoot his wife, I don't see why we wouldn't print photos to prove his demise.
-
You need the steps to check that tail be fore and after flight and they retract into the tail pylon so how do they check that? they would need a stand.
A stand you say? I dont think we could possibly come up with a system that lets us make inspections in areas above our heads...stlightly more stealthy Helo or a B-2 bomber? Sure! but no way a stand that could replace the current system to make said inspections......Wait

I understood they were going to fast rope on the roof and work down.. One helo lost power and was forced to land.. They then improvised w/ tnt thru the wall.
-
well... they announced that its just a mod to the blackhawks being operated by the special forces.
http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2011/05/06/356317/graphic-pakistan-raid-reveals-us-armys-helicopter-secret.html
The operation that killed Osama bin Laden on 2 May inadvertently revealed a modification kit that reduces the radar profile of a small number of Sikorsky MH-60Ks operated by US special operations forces, according to sources familiar with the equipment.
A reduced-signature tail rotor shroud, low-observable treatments and faceted stabilators are visible in news photos of the helicopter that was destroyed at the scene.
The images led to speculation about the possible existence of an all-new stealth helicopter. But in reality, they reveal one of several mission-specific kits developed internally by the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, sources said.
The regiment is renowned for the flying skills of its helicopter pilots, but has also developed advanced engineering capabilities.
Set apart from the army's conventional acquisition and science and technology communities, the 160th has the ability to develop and certificate its own aircraft modifications and projects.
A standard MH-60K represents the most advanced configuration of the Black Hawk family within the regiment's fleet, with special survivability, navigation and radar systems allowing it to operate in "all environments and under the harshest conditions", the army said.
According to one source, the tail rotor is the most visible part of the MH-60K to radar and the sharply edged shroud revealed in the news photos helps to reduce the signature, especially from the frontal aspect. The kit also includes the installation of a stealthy windscreen and requires the removal of the MH-60K's refuelling probe, according to sources.
The bolt-on kits are not classified, but they have been kept secret within the special operations community for as long as two decades. Starting in the mid-1980s, the army began experimenting with stealth treatments for helicopters.
© Reuters
In 1987, Bell OH-58s involved in Operation Prime Chance, which provided armed escorts for oil tankers in the Persian Gulf, received a kit with stealth treatments, which included a main rotor shroud.
The Sikorsky/Boeing RAH-66 Comanche, which was cancelled in 2004, was designed with stealth treatments from the beginning.
It is not clear how the special kit impacted the MH-60K's performance during the bin Laden raid. One of the two aircraft involved in the operation had to be destroyed on the ground. The helicopter's engine had reportedly lost thrust due to power settling as it hovered within the high walls of bin Laden's compound.
One source said the tail rotor shroud of the radar-evading kit improves the aerodynamic performance of the aircraft slightly, but another said the stealth features add weight and drag to the aircraft, perhaps making it more susceptible to power settling.
-
OK then problem solved... oh and bud youll need a taller stand.

Wouldn't that be funny if it was a big toy helo/uav just to frak with pakistani's heads?:devil<joke>

it wasnt very stealthy maybe they didnt see the camo wall 10ft high...

SILENT BLACKHAWK :bhead.. They had silent blackhawks 15 years ago flying out of Fort Huachuca ,AZ If you did not look up and see them you did not know they were there . you could not hear them untill they were right on top of you And im talking closer than 100yds.
So my point is not sure why they need this fancy pieace of krap. The ones I saw were not noticably changed to the degree this thing is ..
-
thats why the blades are bent and swept on the ends. lowers the profile moving through the air. thus reducing noise.
-
So my point is not sure why they need this fancy pieace of krap. The ones I saw were not noticably changed to the degree this thing is ..
It's not like the last 15 years have seen any improvements in noise reduction, RCS reduction, infrared signature reduction, or aerodynamics in general.
-
Im just saying the ones I empiricly saw and hear did not have all the fancy looking goodies like the swept wings and junk. They were silent. I saw them fly from less then 100yds. SOOOOOOOO im just saying peole think they getting something new when they see something like this. Its not really new as far as being silent goes.
That is all carry on.

So you've heard the difference between those and the modified models everyone is just finding out about then?
-
I'm gunna tell you what sir Its still a big blade up there and its not goin to be super silent, quieter yes, low radar sig maybe, since it should be in ground clutter wouldn't matter as much.
So Jay how many Blackhawks have you seen or worked on? You Sikorsky in the back workin on the second one?

Have you heard either one ?:bhead

Everyone knows you're around helicopters, you've made that very clear.
He said that that he couldn't hear helicopters until they were within 100 yards, and therefor he didn't know why people thought this was something special. My point was that just because you've heard some, doesn't mean it can't be improved.

I've been using my friends computer lately, and you know what happened today? The secret service came to his house asking why i've been talking about the US Government keeping Bin Laden's body! :O Seriously I had a brown pants moment when those GMC's pulled into my driveway and men in suits came and banged on the door. Goes to show, if you know anything or think you do, your a threat to your nation! They searched my computer and everything but came to the conclusion that it was just another teen running his mouth about stuff he doesn't know anything about. Or in my case guessing total bull plop. Moral of the story, if you know anything, don't post it online :lol

No I figured when adults thought about teenagers they more likely looked at the lying, drinking, drug dealing, baby having stereo type teens.

And lying about the secret service showing up helps the image how?
-

I've been using my friends computer lately, and you know what happened today? The secret service came to his house asking why i've been talking about the US Government keeping Bin Laden's body! :O Seriously I had a brown pants moment when those GMC's pulled into my driveway and men in suits came and banged on the door. Goes to show, if you know anything or think you do, your a threat to your nation! They searched my computer and everything but came to the conclusion that it was just another teen running his mouth about stuff he doesn't know anything about. Or in my case guessing total bull plop. Moral of the story, if you know anything, don't post it online :lol
The Secret Service isn't going to come to the house of a snot nosed little kid just becuase the kid posted online about where the US government is keeping OBL's body. The Secret Service will only come if you made a threat against the President.

You're changing your lie so soon? First you said the Secret Service came to your house because you were asking around where the government was keeping OBL's body. Now the story changes to it happened to your dad's co-worker when he said some things about the President. What he said must have been pretty bad, like threaten the President or the office of the President (White House) but I'm sure it's nothing more than bullscatology like your first attempt at lying to us 8 posts up.
What are you going to go for your next whopper? Change your handle to VOSS and tell us you're in the middle of development of TAS II? Or maybe how you're some uber sniper or fly F-16s?
ack-ack

You do realize what exactly the Secret Service does dont you? They have nothing to do with Osama at all, in any shape or form. Now if you threatened the president or any former president or their family, that would call for the SS. If you were doing things that you shouldn't with currency, that would call for the SS. not Osama's body.

And i pretty sure the front of the vehicles wouldnt say "GMC". it would most likely just have a Chevy symbol.

shhhhhh the Secret Service is after him....

I believe he's from around Savannah or Tybee. Maybe he's been sleeping next to the lost H bomb and he's got a tumor.

My life literally went Titanic.
If I had run into a large chunk of ice while Leonardo DeCaprio and that hefty redheaded chick were standing on my head I probably wouldn't be on the bbs much either.....
oh, you meant figuratively. Sorry.

I don't think you understand how people talk on the internet.
If discussing Osama's body would get a knock on your door by Federal officials, I'd have been assassinated by now.

Talking like that on the iNt3rW3bZ is a good way to get the Secret Service to come to your house! :noid
