There are many people here who for whatever reason do not want to fly but like the ground game. A couple of months ago, I got tired of driving 5k, getting bombed, driving 5k, getting bombed. upping a flak, driving 5k to find tanks waiting, etc, etc. So I quit AH and tried World of Tanks....didn't like it so I came back here.
There have been many threads asking for a bomb**** free arena for GV'ers. I can't understand why some people fly to tank town just to screw up other people's game. Can't fly and need easy kills? Want to see their name when they land them? When trying to take or defend a base, tanks are fair game in my opinion, but when bomb****s interrupt a good tank fight, I don't get it. Sometimes both sides on the ground just want a gv battle( yes, aviator types, there are people who would prefer that you not bomb the other tanks or take down the vhangers).
I've spent a lot of time online gaming (was muzz in Air Warrior days). I know, that's ancient history to most of you but it was fun.. people would actually stand off and let you have a 1v1 instead of 10 piling on 1...yeah I used to fly.
Hitech, you have an arena for WW1 which is rarely used...why not a GV arena which would be?
Done venting now...but I don't think I want to continue paying for what I'm getting here. That being the case, I'm cancelling my subscription.

There's a bomber-free area on Trinity, which goes unused--try and get your like-minded compatriots to fight there
-
Understand the frustration, there's a couple things to try. First off there's a GV area in the dueling arena, I'm not sure how much use it sees but if you may be able to get a few friends in there for some uninterrupted GV fights. Alternatively if there are attack craft patrolling the skies over the GV fight in the MA, put a call out on country channel that sounds like a target rich environment to this fighter pilot. :)

the DA has a GV area that can be fun

Why should GVers expect some sort of special treatment in the MA by thinking that they shouldn't be bombed? If you want to GV unmolested by bombers, there is a place in the DA where you can go. If everyone tells us that like to fight to go to the DA, then the same answer is valid for GVers like yourself...go to the DA if you don't want to be bombed.

Take off the rose tinted glasses, what you see in AH, you saw all the time in AW as well.
Hitech, you have an arena for WW1 which is rarely used...why not a GV arena which would be?
GV arena would probably be as successful as the WW1 currently is. Sure, for the first tour or two it might hold the community's interest but would soon die down like the WW1 arena has. In addition, not many people realize that the WW1 is actually our de facto beta server as it was intended for new features to be introduced and tested in the WW1 arena before being rolled out to the main arena. You wouldn't be able to accomplish this if you were to get rid of the WW1 arena and replace it with the GV arena.

Cancelling because you can't be bothered to defend yourself in a GV against planes and you're upset because someone had the gall to bomb your tank? :rofl

If you ask for fighter cover because you keep getting bombed i would think a lot a fighters would turn up, shooting up IL2's who are molesting Gv's if fun :old:
-
Might be worth it to go in an attack aircraft on your first sortie and destroy the closest enemy air field's ordnance or coordinate with a friend who likes to do jabo missions, although if you do it yourself then you have more control over what you want destroyed and what you want left intact (IE: if I want a tank fight, I bomb the ord as a priority and then anything else except the enemy VH and radar, this way when I up in a vehicle their radar shows no aircraft and they can't up a plane with ord, so they will either up vehicles or try to take you out with a cannon-laden plane (which are nuisences and a threat, but at least you have a fighting chance against them compared to a 1k bomb dropped from 5k or more above you).
-
I think a lot of GV wishes like this are shortsighted in their view of aircraft's impact on their game. There are venues for GVs to fight fairly unmolested, but as other have pointed out, they are usually empty. The overall "war" effort helps drive the GV battles, even if you personally don't run GVs for that reason.

Not much defense against a bomb**** if you are off the base, is there? Unless I go tank hunting in a flak.

Bummer. I am so sorry that other players interacted with you in a manner you deemed unfitting. I thought you were giving an opinon of how the game should be played for a minute but you were just letting us all know that you were quitting. Too bad really. There are so many answers that would have helped you have fun here again, some of them posted here. I am going to really miss you here man, as I fly over where you might have been sitting in your GV while I have alot of fun playing the game with so many different things to do.
Where ever you go, what ever you do, no matter what game you play, it is up to you to learn how to play and then play. Maybe you could go play a real life game, like softball, and then if you do not like the "3 strikes and you are out" rule, you can quit when they won't change it to "4 strikes because it would be soooo much fun for you that way.
Note: The sarcastic comments posted above are in no way the opinion of HTC but are offered as an editorial and only reflect the opinions of the poster.

Rather than simply dismiss the guy, I bet there would be plenty of paying players interested in a gv-only arena with individual scoring/stats. What could it hurt to have one single "Late War" style arena with all war gv's and all v-bases only (takeable of course, just like other arenas).
Think of the possibilities! Around the edges, daisy-chained v-bases with multiple spawns and mountainous terrain, favoring both small and large-scale gv battles. In the center, wide open flat to gently rolling terrain favoring large scale "Kursk" style battles as well as a LARGE 3 way split city (similar to the old tank-town maps with the old city with streets and buildings) that favor urban style (Stalingrad) style battles.
Why not? It would be a gv'er's paradise.
-
Rather than simply dismiss the guy,
he dismissed himself, he quit!

zippo, people hit tanks with airplanes because it is fun to do so. It has nothing to do with trying to ruin somebody else's fun anymore than shooting down a fighter is about ruining that player's fun. Don't personalize so much.

As a guy who has been shot down by a sherman many times, all I can say is, you'll find no pity here.

Exactly. If only GVers understood that.

I agree with Rox.

He's a troll guys, likely an alt, he had plenty of constructive responces yet somehow ignored them and addressed only those that flamed him before throwing out more bait by crying and quiting the game. Also it's a Friday, one of the notoriously less productive days of the week for us intardnet users.

I think it's because HTC would rather see everyone together. One of the reasons GVs are in the game is so that they can be bombed. Wirbles are in the game to shoot down planes, osties to shoot down buffs.
Fighter who hates getting jumped, killed, ganged all the time learn to wing up with a wing man or two. GVers can do the same. When hunting for tanks bring along a guy that likes wirbles and let him have a field day grabbing scalps of those looking to bomb some GVs.
It's ALL part of the game.
-
First of all bombers only have a few things to destroy to contribute to the war, bombing you and your hangers and the town which ppl rarely take advantage of when a squad yells hangers and town ded (base#). I bet if bomber nuts like me had strats to bomb that would actually hurt the enemy say as respawn time for building or hangers or lag for radar, that you would get bombed less. all this game is furball there, furball here. no sense of a strategic way of bombing in here gets old after awhile. my .02$ good day and stop whining.

It's a two-way street. Whos fault is it, those who bombed and destroyed the hangars for failing to coordinate and organize a town destroying and capturing element, or those who didn't start what they didn't finish?

Hate to drop the bomb on your post but you fail to recognize that our world is dominated by MARKETING and the almighty dollar and not what one person or one CEO thinks. It's all about money and market share...and more importaintly--WHAT THE CONSUMER WANTS. (Hear the alarm clock going off?)
The OP has already stated he went to another game that was all tanks and was unhappy with the quality of the game. How hard is it to understand that there is a CASH paying population out there (besides AH subscribers) willing to pay for a better game they ARE happy with. It's called consolidating market share. If there's a worldwide consumer interest in an all-gv arena with greater opportunity for gv strategy (in numbers or in small squad tactics) who enjoy gv-only arena. How does HTC win that share? By doing it better than anyone else on the internet--and it sounds like they already have (sans an all-gv arena to date). What skin is that off HTC's nose to offer an all gv arena if there's legitimate worldwide paying subscriber market share to be had? Money talks.
Air Warrior was awesome in the fact they had like 9 Relaxed realism Europe Arenas and 9 Relaxed realism Pacific Arenas, beginner arenas and then "Full realism" areans. They didn't give a chunky pile what arena someone played in or if they played "all together"...they cared about that monthy subscription payment clearing every month...and not much else. AW DIED because they were happy to turn it into a cash cow, not develop the game further (R&D--the graphics were rudamentary at best for the time) and other mis-management.
If a company refuses to give the consumer what they want the consumer will continue looking for what they want weather box game or live. Garnering another subscription paying segment of the gaming community would be another feather in HTC's cap..not a burden. Just ask Dale if another 300-400 year-in/year-out subs wouldn't be welcomed if they could play in their own sandbox.
Just as you enjoy being the Walter Mitty WWII fighter pilot, there are plenty of people out there who want the be the Patton, Rommel, Montgomery, Walter Mitty.
Just because YOU don't want it doesn't mean that THEY dont.

In the many years I have played MMOs of varying types, I will say that players are most often wrong in their requests. Players very frequently will suggest on demand game killing things because they think it would be fun and don't even try to spend the mental energy to predict the outcomes, good and bad, of their suggestion, nor to look at it from anybody else's perspective. Only an idiot for a game dev would look at player suggestions with anything but caution.

AHHHHHHH silly boy, you forget the other side of the coin. What about all the people that enjoy bombing GV's? What are they to do if HTC were to open a GV only arena? My guess is that they would take their money and leave!
The problem with a lot of these requests is people don't look at the whole picture. They look at only what is relevant to them. You to have fallen into the same boat. That's what Hitech means when he says stuff about people requesting what they REALLY want, because he knows they are only looking at one side. He's no fool and and has proven this time and time again. Most of his changes have been met with up roars and complaints with threats to cancel subscriptions. Instead of knuckling under to the "knuckle heads" his company has continued to move along even in an economy that stinks to high heaven.
The customer very rarely knows what he wants, but he always "thinks" he does.
As for AW, I don't remember 9 arenas for each. The only times they have multiple arenas was for AWI when the server couldn't handle many people. You would spend half the night in the AOL chat rooms trying to get into an opening in an arena. It was a hardware issue, not a "give them what they want issue.

I'd be more than happy to come cut a swath through them with a K4 :aok

Just position some of the tank bases on the edges of the maps. The farther away an airfield, the fewer the bombers. There will still be a few players who don't mind flying ten minutes to bomb a tank, but fuel and ordinance loadout will reduce the recovery time.
-
Not sure why WOT was not liked.... sounds right up the OP's alley.
-
i never was to keen on GV's now they are a lot more fun :aok
-
I'm confused. It's ok for a tank to get killed by another tank but not by a jabo fighter or buff? Dead is dead :devil
-
Well Vent I dont want you to take your bombing personal. Bombing GVs will become even more commonplace since the new GV settings took effect. My personal strategy has always been to locate the GV fight and bomb the spawn campers to lure the campers back to the spawn in a JABO to return the favor. Its at this time when I'm waiting at the mouth of the 135 canyon to pounce on them. Nothing personal its just how I roll. It usually leads to some interesting furballs over the GV battle.

i guess you've never flown bombers for over an hour only to get shot down by a high alt lone buff hunter just before you get to the target...if you're driving around in a tank for 30 minutes without ever firing a shot, you're not in a tank battle, you're just putzing around.

Two words: MARKET RESEARCH
HTC would have to have it done but I'd like to see the results before "assuming" potential profit away.
My best guess is you aren't in marketing are you?

I think HTC's marketing research comes from 12 years of running this game and many years of similar experience before that. I don't want this to come off as ankle-humping (because there are things about this game I disagree with HTC about) but I pretty well trust what decisions he makes for his game.
That being said, we don't know if he has ever done a market research study (I suppose you could count the polls). Anyway, he would never let us see the results of the study anyway. So here are our two options; 1) HTC doesn't run these studies and he's been able to run a successful business for 12 years or 2) HTC does run these studies and he's been able to run a successful business for 12 years.

For the record, I'm not in favor of a gv only arena. Where you got that from I can only guess. I just like fast action. If I have only an hour to play sometimes, I dont like spending half of it driving. I suppose someone else wanting to have fun in a way that is different from your own is a yank to your whitey tighties. If there was a good gv spot like we have at 135 on all bases that didnt interfere with the land grabbers we would have a lot more tank guys playing. As of late, Ive logged in for only 45 minutes or so only to become bored and log. What bothers me the most is that a large percentage of the concerns and opinions are comming from people I rarely see in a gv. If you rarely gv then why should it matter to you. Thats not the case here.

I've been doing the same thing, logging in for a bit, not finding much I want to do, then logging off. Do we blame the game? There really haven't been any significant changes to the game that would scare me off. Sure I'd like to see a better strat system, but I did just fine for months with our current system, so I can't really blame that.
You can't really blame the game for you not having fun in it. You've probably been playing for quite some time, so why now is GVs getting bombed ruining your good time?
:salute

...and whos to say that his research doesn't say that people LIKE bombing GVs and is one of the top 3 reasons they play?
No I'm not in "Marketing" but I understand it, and I'm open minded enough to see more of the big picture. No I don't see it all in the big picture as I'm sure I have my blind spots as well. Like Jayhawk said, they seem to be doing alright at HTC.

I don't spend much time in GVs, heck I don't get to spend much time in planes these days :cry but I like those that bomb GVs, I've done it myself. To me it's a fun place to find a fight. Come in hvy, pop a couple of GVs and then chase down others who come in hvy to get me some A2A kills. While I don't spend much time in GVs they are pretty important to game play for me.

There have been many threads asking for a bomber free arena for GV'ers. I can't understand why some people fly to tank town just to screw up other people's game. Can't fly and need easy kills? Want to see their name when they land them? When trying to take or defend a base, tanks are fair game in my opinion, but when bombers interrupt a good tank fight, I don't get it.
That being the case, I'm cancelling my subscription.
zippo BTW bombers...................... ............................. ............byte me
This is the exact reason why tank klubb was started back in the day of this game.
We had a lot of people show up in the DA and we had some awesome fun.
Of course there was one or two dummys that tryed to bomb us but he got bored early and our fun continued on.

i guess you've never flown bombers for over an hour only to get shot down by LUSCH just before you get to the target...if you're driving around in a tank for 30 minutes without ever firing a shot, you're not in a tank battle, you're just putzing around.
Fixed :aok

Why not the invisible icons for enemy?
I can see tanks on the ground pretty easily from the air and it's not hard to realize that a vehicle without an icon is indeed the enemy.
I can also see the tracers when they fire from cover which allows me to see thier location in the trees.
From the ground point of view, a red icon is pretty necessary at times since it seems not all tracers are visible at all times.........at least for me.

What kind of vehicle do you see on the ground easily? From how far away?
By the time you see icons, 1500 yards, you are within WW gun range anyhow.
I identify AAA gvs primarily when they start shooting more than by their icon.
Otherwise, it's just a dot.

Back when I had a Gateway "low end special", GVs would appear as large black dots from very far away. Not sure if anything in-game has changed, but my current graphics are quite good and I can't spot a stationary GV until within icon range.

I remember Muzz from the AW days. He's a good dude and I'm sure he had probably been bombed multiple times in the MA and got PO'ed and posted the OP. I too can get frustrated, but what the heck, I won't quit. I'll just hunt down the bastage that kept killing me and return the favor. But rest assured, if you are a spawn camper, I will gleefully come egg you. :P

I up a fighter and fly in fighter mode. Many people have the unmitigated gall to shoot me down. I demand an arena where I cannot be shot down... meh, maybe I'll just cancel my subscription.
:D
