the origional puffy flak had actual ballistics and travel time for the bullets. I miss it can we have it back in a for that will work for carrier groups?
I remember the problem was the origional coad would just make a big black cloud above the cv group. surely this can be corrected with the current level of programming experience.
no one likes the current ai puffy flak random world of warcraft rng dice box except programmers who don't want to be bothered changing it.

I don't ever recall early versions having ballistics. Even back in the 1.4 days I recall puffy ack following my HQ-run lancs far too long and far out of sight behind mountains and such.
Seems rather like we have it now over the megastrats and CVs. I also wish HTC would just code ballistics into it [like you say], solve the problem.

All I know is I am sick of diving at 450+ to ht somethin on a field and WHAM, first shot form any ack (CV Group, Field) either rips a wing off or PWs me so bad I might as well bail. All im saying is tone it down because Ack WAS NOT THAT ACCURATE AT ANYTIME. Ty :salute

Scotty, it was more so, if you're talking about the cannon rounds. It's the puffy ack we dislike.
In real life a group of tempests running at full speed with surprise on their side made one pass over a German field. Of the entire flight, the leader looked back and found only 2 made it through the fire to the other side!
The gun fire was quite lethal. It's the 88mm and/or the 5" puffy that's not very realistic right now.

+1 current puffy ack kills gameplay and players engaging in combat with other players, no one wants to pay a sub to constantly get nerfed by AI
-
the current puf ack will kill your hub cannon quite easily :noid
I don't want my fights to be constantly ruined by some unrealistic AI insta kill thingy

That sounds like "Typhoon Squadron",lol (Think that's what the name of that old movie is called)
I believe with David McCallum?

I bet every player in the game hates puffy ack.
Defensive side: It sucks/is unreliable. You can't drag bad guys to the puffy ack, it's "just there", maybe it will help you maybe it will kill you, who the heck knows. It's completely random if it will shoot a bad guy on your tail or just shoot you. Field ack on the other hand, has value for the defender, as you can seek refuge in the ack when needed. It actually acts as a surefire defense.
Offensive side: Obviously it's garbage. No one wants to get shot by some random damage generator every time you go above a "magic altitude".
Other than the historical immersion of puffy, how does it make game play better for anyone? Does the immersion really outweigh game play in this case?

I dont think so, if immersion is the reason to have it, just make it not do any damage.

As far as its immersion factor, I like it.
In the 5 months I have been online, I have been shot down once, damaged two or three times, and saved once by puffy ack.
To me it's just part of the war.
Just my $0.02 :old:

Im not doubting that it was accurate as you say, but about a year ago I did some research on the subject and was astonished by the amount of rounds fired to plane's downed ratio. I will try to find it again, I just think flyin on the fringe's of a CV group at 15k and the first round fired at me blows my wing off...well that is a little ridiculous. Thank you for tellin me that though cuz it does make me understand a bit more :salute

I've never been hit that hard. The last time that happened was by 37 or 40mm ack. The puffy ack shook my aircraft and destroyed my flaps I believe. :uhoh :airplane:

Only correction I'd make is that surprise was not on their side.
Day Ranger Mosquito flights regularly attacked airfields in daylight, but one pass only as the guns were never ready the first pass. Second passes would be too dangerous.
Of course, the AI is never surprised in AH, so....
