I bet they're "the Horsemen", a 3 pony aerobatics team (well, more like synchronized flying, I don't see them do any wild moves) but they sure fly a tight formation, even through loops!  I think they'll be performing at Mirimar San Diego this summer. I wonder who pays for all the avgas? :airplane:   I'm taking a tour of a B17 tomorrow morning at Gillespie field in El Cajon, only $5. Woot!

Possible but more likely from one of the other smaller airfields - Anoka County airport has a WWII collection and so does Holman Field in downtown St Paul.   Holman had a Catalina that was severely damaged in a storm a few years back - flipped I think.

I didn't know Holman had a collection! One of my offices is right next to the field.  I'll have to run over and check it out.

I think its called the Minnesota Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, and they've held air shows there in the past.   But wait, now I'm thinking they moved to a more southern metro location, but I can't recall the name of the field.

Better check the website first!

EDIT:  It's Fleming Field in S St Paul.   I sat inside a Catalina restoration in their hangar a few years ago, talking to the guys one Sat morning.

The Flying Wing always makes an appearance at the Wings over Gillespie airshow in El Cajon.  If no one has been to that airshow yet, it's actually a pretty cool one.  It's a rather small one but you can walk around the airfield and there are a number of WW2 warbird restorations going on.  The last time I went about 6 years ago, I got to walk around a F-82 that was being restored before I think it was shipped off to Texas to be finished.

I lived on Fort Bragg in the early 90s and there still were units of Uh-1s and they would fly about on exercises and I have to say that is one of the most distinctive sounds. All I wanted to do back then was fly a Huey.

Every day - two Waco UPF-7s selling rides at (Katama Airfield) 1B2
Nearly every weekend, one or more AT6s arrive for a day at the beach - now and then they will play around with a low pass or two...

A B-17 flew directly over my house the other morning, but I couldn't find this thread!   Anyway, same flight path as my first post - hdg 090 about 1500 ft.

I don't get much warning and have a real poor sky view due to all the trees, but those old radial engines are unmistakeable.

Weekdays I see F-16's, F-15's, C-130's, AC-130's, occasional C-17, Blackhawks, Chinnooks, V-22's.

Recently saw the first F-35A land at the 33rd fighter wing :rock

Helps to live within one hour of 3 air force bases one being AFSOC and an army special forces bases.

New Braunfels TX 11:00 am B-25J ,P-39 at 1200 feet over the quarry I work in. They fly out out of San Marcus TX the CAF has a wing there. When theirs a airshow at Randolph AFB the WWII Planes holding area is right over the quarry, I park what ever I'm operating and watch till I'm told to work or get fired. Its a thrill when one of the planes peels off and does a low pass over us.

2-11-11 mid afternoon

F8F Bearcat, about 300 feet away, 0 AGL (Pilot was about 7 AGL) Nose-up on the ramp because it taxied behind a B25 doign a run-up (or something like that)

KSAT (San Antonio International Airport)

Rod Lewis was at the helm of the B25, and one of his sons was flying the bearcat. After we had finished at KSAT we were the next departing traffic off of 12L behind 2 P38s and a B25 (He broke one, so what? He's got 15 more) Mr. Lewis also owns the P38 "Glacier Girl" and the Bearcat "Rare Bear" I think total he has 4 bearcats, and 2 tigercats (of 3 in flyable condition) and a whole slew of other warbirds

Summer 1998, middle of the day, southeast Mesa, Arizona.
10 Apache Gunships in staggered, close formation flying south.
That is a sight and sound I will never forget.
We could hear them before we saw them.
About half the neighborhood came running out to look.  :old:
