Q: Can you take another pilot if he is not an instructor?
just curious
Yes, but legally he/she is taking me for a flight. I cant act as pilot in command unless I'm flying solo, or with the DPE on the checkride
-
DMGOD, do you have a license? Just wondering
-

pipz im 35
-
Since were on this topic I guess I'll contribute to the hijacking.
he does? last i understood u had to be 17 to have license. at least that what he told us
Well how do you define "pilot"? Someone who the government allowed to fly in their airspace and gave a plastic card to or someone who is fully capable of operating an airplane?

i define pilot as somebody who is 100% legal to fly a areoplane
same way i define a driver someone who is 100% legal to drive a car
something I say irritate u ladies?
-
I am 100% legal to fly an airplane. So by your definition I am a pilot.

DMGOD, what if I told you that you were legal to fly over the Atlantic, would you call yourself a pilot? Because it is indeed legal for you to fly over the Atlantic.
-

no your not and if you are then you lied to us when you told us you had to wait till your 17 for your PILOTS licenseDMGOD, what if I told you that you were legal to fly over the Atlantic, would you call yourself a pilot? Because it is indeed legal for you to fly over the Atlantic.
machfly what if i told you I had multiple bridges for sale for dirt cheap, would u wanna buy one?
-
I have a student piltos license with a solo endorsement, ergo I'm legal to fly an airplane. Now, I cant take PASSENGERS until I get my private pilots license
-
machfly what if i told you I had multiple bridges for sale for dirt cheap, would u wanna buy one?
No, because I don't want to bridge. Back to my question...
-
I've flown before and landed, I was 11
-
No, because I don't want to bridge. Back to my question...
your question is silly and you know it is
-
I've flown before and landed, I was 11
Sure, but would you be able to go take an airplane right now (say you had access to one). Would you be able to fly from point A to point B? You see my point.
-

so no you dont have a pilots license you have a students pilots license lil bit of a difference no?
-

I don't see it that way. You said that you define a pilot as someone who is legal to fly, well you don't need a licence to fly over the Atlantic (it's international waters).
-

im not missing ur point. to become a pilot you have to have x amount of hours and x amount of class time. so i'll say no to ur silly question
-
so no you dont have a pilots license you have a students pilots license lil bit of a difference no?
Technically there is no such think as a "pilot license", what your talking about is a Private Pilot Certificate and he does not have it yet, however he is a Student Pilot (that is an actual document) so if you want to look at it from that point, he is a pilot.
-

Tell me where and I probably could, My only problem is navigating, but like I said give me directions and I can do it. Flying is easy, its regulations and rules that strike me as the harder part because I have no knowledge about them. My grandfather owns an air field somewhere up in Ohio, I don't recall off hand but he has a hanger where he used to repair planes, but at his age he's no longer up there often so it makes visiting hard when he travels everywhere.

That's to get a pilot certificate from the FAA. Please explain how is it illegal to fly over the Atlantic without have official documentation that your a pilot.

Being able to navigate is a part of being a pilot.

tell me 1st how you get to the middle of the atlantic with a plane and then ill answer ur silly question

Seaplanes, islands, or icebergs. Or you can have someone fly you over there and give you the controls.
-

I understand that, being a pilot is something I would love to do, but being constrained to glasses really makes it difficult to do much, air force isn't a real option I just refuse to get he surgery, and money is hard to come by these days so there's really no point in trying right now though I certainly would If I could.
-

well if they are in the plane then u can fly no questions asked

I take it your talking about USAF. If that's right USAF lets you fly their planes as long as your vision is correctable to 20/20, you can fly with corrective lances.
-

The point is if you are capable. You need to be able to operate a plane and navigate.

You mean I could fly with contacts? I thought you couldn't cause G's could remove them from your eyes? Or are we under the impression I wan to fly bombers?

I honestly don't know about contacts, but you can fly with glasses.

David (tupac) isnt in the airforce. You dont need to join the military to get a pl. Do what I did to get free flight time I used to hang out Bayport aerodrome and help clean up and mow grass whatever i could do for guys with extra seats to let me in. Trust me if u show any kind of honest interest most of those guys would love to take you along
I don't have a pilots license but I've had a lot of stick time almost all for free or for some kind of menial labor

I figured the military would be a start for aviation, but getting my pl is something I've always dreamed of since I can remember. I don't live in NYC so that would be a problem there but there is a air port about 20 minutes from my house used for small bush planes, I've never seen any jet air craft there. Free stick time would be awesome, I know I can do it, just gotta find a chance or excuse.

If so then that changes my perspective on the Navy, I would really want to be a pilot for the Navy.

Trust me, if you don't fly those jets you want to be flying as far away from NYC as possible. ;)

I don't know about Navy's regulations, but in the Air Force your vision should not stop you.
-
To enter flight training, a candidate must pass a Flight Class I Flying Physical. To become a pilot, that means the candidates vision can be no worse than 20/70 (correctable with glasses to 20/20) in each eye. To enter Navigator Training, the candidate can have vision no worse than 20/200 in each eye (also must be correctable to 20/20).
After flight school, the standards relax a little. Pilots and Navigators who have already graduated flight training, can remain fliers as long as their vision doesn't deteriorate beyond 20/400 in each eye (correctable to 20/20).
Normal depth perception and color vision is required.
contradicting myself I found out that navy needs 20/40 with surgery.
-
I have 20/20 with my glasses, so I guess that works? But does that involve enlisting on a different part of the navy?
I can't confirm your information. But no, you would go in as an officer with everyone else (no special treatments).

lol I don't live in NYC either I live in a magical place called Long Island. Bayport aerodrome is a small single grass runway with nothing but small single engine aircraft there. My 1st flight was in a piper cub (scared the crap outta me) then had a couple in a Cessna 182 and even managed to finagle a ride in a t-6 texan all before I was 15. It used to take me about 30 minutes to ride my Bicycle there but I was there almost every day.

I have to be an officer? or Can I just enlist? Also that info was for air force, navy is at least 20/40 without aid.

Looking at that, I think my grandfather took me up in a Cessna 172, I remember the doors were very loose and it scared the crap out of my mom :lol I was to much in awe to care about a loose door.

Yes, you have to be an officer in order to be a pilot in any branch of the US military.
-
So, women drivers hey
-
Looking at the air force web site, just to look of course. It seems very promising.
-
I'm glad this topic got hijacked and went the whole other way.
:aok

I know several "pilots" who cant fly legally because they dont have a PPL. This didnt stop them from flying multimillion dollar jets in the forces.
So ya like MachFly says it depends on what you call a pilot, the wright brothers didnt have a PPL either..... :devil
:salute

Yes, you have to be an officer in order to be a pilot in any branch of the US military.
Not really. "Warrant officers" can be pilots in the Army. It's a different set of rules.
As for the rest of this thread, it's funny how a bunch of pedestrians are trying to tell a young pilot that he isn't a pilot just because he isn't yet allowed to fly passengers. The sole manipulator of the controls is the pilot in command, no matter what the piece of paper in his logbook says. There are lots of rules about under what conditions any particular person can legally act as the pilot in command, but legal or not the person responsible for manipulating the controls is the pilot. And if that person is alone or with someone who is unable to safely fly the aircraft, by default that person is the pilot in command whether or not they are certified or licensed for that position. A student pilot in the US is licensed to be pilot in command under restrictions set by his or her instructor, as outlined in the applicable logbook endorsements and in applicable FAA reglations. That time is usually logged as "solo", but for all practical purposes it is PIC time even if not logged as such.
It should be noted that ultralight pilots and LSA pilots often are fully licensed with less training and experience than a student pilot who is going for a private pilots license. It is simply a matter of training focus and CYA regulations that gives new ultralight and LSA pilots more legal authority in some areas than many PPL student pilots have.
-
well said, from what I know, which isn't a lot, I would let Dave fly me around any day. He is a pilot.
-
no not a pilots license cause if u got caught flying alone you would get in trouble unlike a person with a pilots license who can fly alone
sorta like a permit u can fly/drive with someone who has a license
if you have a student pilots license, all you need, is for your CFI to sign off in your log book that you are allowed to fly solo.

the problem with most female drivers, is that they're not taught the same as males. when they get behind the wheel of a car, they have no sense of speed, mass, or stored energy in a 2 ton guided missile.

lucky you're already married. I can never seem to get this point across

i'm not married. i used to be. her father always treated her like a tomboy, so he had some understanding. i took her out in my lifted chevy 4x4. i took her out in my 83 stang....i made sure she knew what they could, and couldn't do. she was honestly a pretty dam good driver, thanks to her father, and in a very small part, thanks to me.
now.....my last 2 girlfriends......both of them were the kinds that got their licenses, because they were cute. how do i know this? because if they'd have been held to the same standards as me, there's no way in hell they'd have been allowed to drive anything bigger than a go kart.
