Title: StuG III
Post by: skorpion on August 05, 2011, 11:42:55 PM
yes, its that time again! time for me to ask for my lovely StuG III. we got the right GVing track system and its basically a panzer gun on a (i think) panzer hull, just a little different. it was used as an assault gun but then turned into a tank destroyer when facing the russians. i think it would be a nice gv to have in game.

Great link, thanks for that.

That bullet-headed museum dude has a quality all his own.

I believe it's been shown that, fired from the correct weapon, he can penetrate 120mm of sloped armour.

I really like the idea of adding the StuG III for AH's first "turret-less" AFV.  It is already difficult enough to hit moving vehicles with a typical totating tank turret, now stop and think trying how to keep the gun on an enemy target my using a limited track pivot (StuG III would pivot like a Sherman or Panzer IV).  It would be one of the more difficult AFV's to use defensively, imo.  It would serve better in the orginally intended "assualt gun" role vs the TD role.  The main gun itself, depending on which version HTC goes with, would be equal to the Panzer IV gun we have now.

I dunno, I'm torn between the StuG III and Su-100 for HTC's first turret-less AFV.

Both would be good editions, the StuG IIIG would not be perked and probably 25 eny without being perked, a nice offset would be the Jagdpanzer, a turretless tank destroyer with the 75mm L/70 (same gun on the Panther), however I believe it would be perked, on par with the Firefly but a little cheaper.

Here's some combat information on the Stu.G.III -
It can penetrate a T34/85 front at 700m and Mantle at 100m so forget getting in a shoot out with the T34/85 -

T34/85 Penetrates the Stu mantle at 1100m, DFP 1500m and Nose 1400m

Pershing :noid

i also like the idea of a jagdpanzer being added as it would make a nice TD.

Pershing won't likely be added to the game, I did post some information on it in another thread here.

M26 Pershing Heavy Tank would be nice counter to the Panther's and Tiger's...also (look out for BAR) M-36 or M-10 would be nice additions along with possibly the Cromwell for the UK. I know we have no Japanese Tanks as they were basically as useless as WW1 Tanks so I dont see any reason to add any of those. But I would like to see more Armored Vehicels to add some spice to the current GV battles in AH.

Same gun and same ammo as the Panzer IV H, save for the mount, yes?

Dude, its the same gun as a panzer IV (preformance wise). Panzer is a match for the T-34, and would be more than a match if it weren't for the crappy 50mm turret armor.
