Title: One of our own is turning PRO- MMA fighter...
Post by: The Vowel Of Doom! on August 16, 2011, 10:30:38 AM
My son Jeremy played under a few names the last 10 years in MA with us here at AH. He went under TopMut, DoomJr.

For those who may have missed it this Fri. AUG 19 he fights his MMA  pro debut at Harrahs Casino in New Orleans LA,  just a short walk from the "French Quarter".
He is 9 wins 1 loss as an AMTR, all his wins came in the first half of the first round.

If anyone is close please try and make it fight night, I have 3 more of my own fighters I train on the show, including Warren Donely, best known for training Melvin Gallard of the UFC.

Please visit Jeremys website (www.jeremymeadows.net) and sign his guest book!

P.S.  On the Videos Page, most fights are so short, not worth watching to tell the truth, my boy is a monster. BUT, the very first fight posted   (he was only 10, and was my hero from that day on)   on the video page, and the last fight posted are very much worth a watch. Enjoy!

Congrats to your son Sir and tell him to keep kicking some butt! :aok

Daddkev is our resident MMA expert but I believe he is mostly setting up and training fighters on the west coast nowadays as opposed to fighting.

Did he lose fight number 6 to a rear naked?  Looked like he was dominating that guy with black hair up to that point.

Right on and good for him. Please keep us posted as he develops. Also, Nashville has an MMA event every couple of months. If he fights here let me know and we can round up a small cheering section for him.

All the best!

Doom has always been a likeable person, always respectful, courteous, cordial.
A lot of guys in his field would be overly macho in attitude when dealing with others.
Doom & Students, I wish you best of luck for a long, successful career.
A great start for you, your son and rest of your group.

Wishing Jeremy luck. I boxed GGs as a kid. Not the same thing I know, this MMA looks far rougher, :D but I do remember what it was like stepping into the ring. And all the training that went with it.

MMA has really gotten huge hasnt it ? Im not familiar with the fight games anymore but it seems to have gotten a huge fan base. :salute

While I do enjoy watching Neanderthals beating the carp out of each other for our enjoyment and the profit of many, why on earth would anyone encourage their kid to join something like that?  Football was not violent enough for him?  Why get involved with that crowd? Assuming he is clean, what happens when it is time to lose the fight because he was told to?

your thinking WWE..the .MMA ...."crowd"..UFC...dont dictate who should win......and what is wrong with that "crowd" ?

you insult every MMA fighter ever by your comments. I would be a fool if I categorized every football player as a dumb jock.....

personally I cant stand football, and would much rather have my kid get into MMA then football.

I am talking about the crowd organizing everything.  You are telling me that Boxing for example is dirty but this is clean or is going to remain clean?

As I said, I enjoy watching it, but do I want my kid to be spiting teeth for a living? Nop.  It is actually a logical question if don;t see it as an insult.  Why encourage your kid to make a living out of beating people or worse getting beat up by people for my entertainment?  Nothing else was available that could sustain him/her and their family after they blow a knee?

As for football players don't get me started lol.  I love the game but most of the pros are just high paid thugs.  Or am I wrong about that one also?

About time we disagreed on something lol.  It was getting scary  :O

I must have took what you said wrong...I was thinking you were revering to the athletes in general, caught me off guard ether that or I am getting senile  :old:

I hope it don't go the way of boxing, kinda think now a days it would be imposable for it to happen, but ya never know, is boxing even like that any more?

I dont know..... I love the UFC, if I was younger you would see me busting faces in the octagon, as far as the kid thing goes I don't care what mine do as long as they do what they want.  if they get anything from my life hopefully that is it.

Thank god there only a few manly men around or we would all be beating the carp out of each other every day trying to show how manly we are.  Tell you what, this idiot (me) has all his teeth and can support a family in his 40s while watching your manly genius son getting his bellybutton kicked on tv over a couple of beers.  Then again, maybe you are both so insecure that you need to prove how manly you are everyday.  Come back and talk to me when he is in his 40s or after he loses a couple of fights and it is all over.

Thank you for yours and your sons contribution to society.  I guess trying to cure cancer was not manly enough :lol

Mr Dedalos, the one thing clear from your post is this: YOU are insecure. You will deny this, but it's true.
If not, something as positive a post as this would not have intimidated you so badly.
You clearly don't know your sports either. MMA is man chess. Eating cheese wiz watching re runs of sex in the city and growing fatter is probably great fun for you and yours. We like things a bit more exciting. No offense  :devil

FYI: That same son was in gifted classes from K to graduation, he won almost every chess tournament he entered. He owns his own car, paid for *better than my own*  buying his own house *only 23 yrs* He is a hard worker more than any I know. You probably still rent and twice his age no doubt  :devil Again, no offense, nice trailers are hard to come by I hear.

Not good enough you say?
All my kids qualified for the advanced classes in, my oldest was the youngest person at the time he was accepted to NOCCA. He is now a writer with many publications and  4 books for sale on amazon  *he writes all kinds, but mostly sci-fi* He travels all over the world, my last birthday gift he sent from the forbidden palace in China. * I still think that's pretty damn cool *
I taught him how to play the piano & guitar, now he also composes his own music.  I  play most instruments in popular music, and shared that with all of my kids.

I only started the post due to how proud I am of him and how hard he works at everything he does... thanks for the excuse to share more  :salute

Nice work Pop..... and Jeremy.

You should both be proud :aok

MMA takes skills, brains, and heart!

A small fact Re the MMA:
For the record There have been more brain ingeryis in traditional boxing than in the Highly regulated MMA

The American American Association of Neurological Surgeons estimated that about 90% of boxers end up sustaining brain damage, pointing out that a direct hit in the ring, to the head, is equivalent to being hit with a 12 pound wooden mallet travelling at around 20 miles per hour. This is NOT the case with MMA.

When one attains an intelligent understanding of the sport of MMA and it's effect on the body, as compared to round after round of direct blows to the head seen in boxing, it becomes apparent that the more "barbaric" of the two sports is boxing. Unfortunately, because most cannot focus past the blood, ignorance often rules the day in the main stream media.

Jeremy, as you know use his energy  ;)

that's because in MMA they stop the fights long before any damage is sustained.....besides the fact that there are far less rounds in MMA....if UFC had the same amount of rounds and didn't stop the fight on the first "knock out" you would see much different "statistics".

dedalos, I personally don't agree with fighting sports either.  With that being said, I also don't agree with you jumping in and calling them neanderthals.  I've talked to Doom before about this subject but not in a "I don't agree with it so it's wrong" kind of way.  Yes, he is a squaddie, but that's not why I'm defending him.  You constantly give your comments on this BBS degrading others.  If a topic of police come up, you have a whole lot to say.  A topic about youngsters, you have a whole lot to say.  You may have the right to freedom of speech, but just because you can, doesn't mean that you should.  I am happy for Doom and his son, even though I am not a fan of fighting sports due to the violence, but THEY also have the right to do what they want as long as it's legal.  Turning pro in anything is an accomplishment.  Look back at all the posts made in this thread, and you will see you were the first to start trouble.  We all have opinions, everyone knows that.  Not all of us agree with it but a lot of others do.  Take these words to heart.  Just because you can comment on something, doesn't mean that you should.  Let others live their lives without grief.
I'm sure you'll come after me now, but this post was just meant to say "relax" in the most respectful way I could.

So, I should only have an opinion if I agree with the OP?  I should only use my freedom of speech if I agree with a post?  You mentioned that I have a lot to say about posts referring to police or youngsters.  Yes I do!  Too subjects that I am very familiar with since I have kids and a big part of my family and friends is in the "law enforcement" business (in different countries too). But how is that related to this topic?  I am just trying to understand what you are trying to tell me.

There is a very easy way to get me not to post.  Don;t start a thread.  Once you do, you should welcome all comments/opinions.  Seems like you guys only welcome opinions that agree with you?

It is my opinion that as a parent you should encourage your kids to do something useful and constructive with their lives.  Sorry, but that will not change just because some guy you know posted on a BBS.  If you want to make them gladiators for my entertainment go right ahead, but my opinion will remain the same.

So, I should only have an opinion if I agree with the OP?  I should only use my freedom of speech if I agree with a post?  .

No you just should allow pepole to enjoy a happy moment in their life, with out shyting on it. Some times decorum takes precedence over your egotistical opinions on how your perspective is better than someone else. At times the best choice is to just keep your trap shut..

I would agree with that, but who are you to decide what that is? everybody has dreams, just because they difffer from yours is no reason to make a mockery of them.

You generally demonstrate total disregard and insensitivity to your fellow man. As a parent and roll model, do you feel those are good traits? Do they encourage your kids to do something useful and constructive with their lives? opinions and freedom of speech are great and I totally respect you for using your liberty but there is a time to voice it and a time to consider your own hypocrisy..

I agree.  It would have been best to keep his trap shut and go celebrate his and his sons achievements.  Oh, wait, I think you are saying that his opinion matters more than mine and only he should be allowed to post.  My bad.  Keep in mind that I did not walk into his house to express my opinion.  Believe it or not, all I can post is my perspective.  I could not post about yours and I have no interest in doing that either.

I just decide for myself and not for others.  I am not forcing him to do anything.  All I did was express my opinion and ask a question that you guys have not answered yet.  Everybody has dreams.  Why can;t I comment if someones dream is to become a punching bag?

:lol disregard and insensibility?  Is this a funeral or something?  Are my kids on this BBS reading this?  :lol  But yes, I do encourage them to express their opinion.  You are also right about a place and time to voice my opinion.  This is it.  He brought the subject up and I asked the question (But I am guessing the place and time should be defined by you?).  Have you seen me making any comments towards someone who said they are trying to cure cancer?

So, maybe you can answer the question.  Why, as a parent, encourage your kid to go that route given the choices this country provides.  Simple question really.  Why get upset about it?

That's my business. What others choose is up to them. There are way to many dynamics behind the scenes as to why pepole are motivated to move in the directions they do.

The guy is obviously proud of his sons accomplishment as he should be, to reach that level takes determination and lots of hard work. let him enjoy it regardless if you approve.

Again I'm all for speaking your mind and sticking to your convictions 100%..But in some instance's its best not to be such a wet mop and zipp it ...

 Be bigger than yourself.

Yes, I agree.  I am just curious to know.  Obviously I don't get it so an answer would have helped.  But we both know what the answer is, right?  Why else would you guys get so defensive about it.  He can be proud and answer the question at the same time, no?

Can you answer this one?  What is your relation to him?

I will put this back were it belongs... WAY TO GO JEREMY!
You worked hard, did well and those who are decent and normal are glad for you !

I never worry about clowns who look for bad, there will always be those... I have to busy and happy a life to worry why some always look for bad, and some always look for good. Perhaps they deserve pity ?
I am just happy to be in the latter group <S> again! Enjoy and be safe!

Furball is alive?

We allow him to post once a month, when he returns from tracking the Yeti.   He gets pissed off and has to come into town for more booze, only to miss the Yeti again.     But he's a persistent one and that is trait which should be admired.

Dedolos: I could have yelled " UP" then you would have screamed "DOWN". I could say "WHITE"  you would say BLACK...

I could have said " My son cured cancer!" and your reply would have been " That is dumb, why don't you teach him MMA! " Your goal is simply  to complain for complaining sake.   It is the complaining and ranting this is your contribution to the world.
To me it is clear that your an unhappy man with nothing good in your life to share, so you share your misery. You argue with everyone over every thing.  There is nothing that says you cant be a bitter unhappy presence, here on the  BBS posts or in your life, but why would you choose to be so?
The only thing I can do is give you some advice: Start looking for what's good about things, cry about bad when others are getting harmed so that at least its a fight worth fighting. Nothing is going to come in to your life positive until you stop insisting on being negative. It is simply how things work.

Canacka, dood, we never had the talk you mentioned you weirdo lol Had we I would have promptly called you a "woman"  and meant it sincerely.  :devil

To finish Mr. Dedalos
When it comes to what people share it is a choice to make it good or bad. I have already said my choice, yours is also clear. If there is a good person deep down inside you, I hope you get what you need to grow a better outlook on life. If not, not my problem, I don't have to live with you.

Hmm, Just how many Brits are in MMA? I'm not a MMA fan, but I don't get what part you think is a joke?

Lots of Brits.  Not much of a fan any more either.
