well this year, im in 9th grade. the school im going to has 5 seperate blocks, each of which is fairly large...and my first class is right at the main entrance, ok all fine...next class is on the other side of the school. a good 3 minutes away if your speed walking. :bhead i also got a few options on a new class since one got dropped due to a teacher quitting. its either Architectual drafting and design, or Metal construction. what should i take? i like em both, just cant decide.
(oh and my friend lost 5 dollars to the vending machine today! :rofl)
-
I'd go with drafting and design skorp... but that is more suitable to my industry. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.
-
i was thinking that, but im gonna either way i go, im going to be either designing the new alberta kimball sign for the auditorium, or building it. its kind of like choosing between the hot blonde or cash. either way, your good to go! :lol
-
drafting would be my choice
-
go with cash ALWAYS... money never talks back ;)

ok, lets say the blonde didnt talk a whole lot... :D
-
at some point in time you'll want to stab your eyes out with a dull spoon when she does ;)
-
well...duct tape would work fine im sure. but sometimes, you wish you had the money because lets face it. blondes are money nightmares. (keep the expensive ferrari over the blonde, in the long run, the car is ALOT cheaper :lol)
-
Money can also pay for another hot blonde...

It depends on what you think you might like to do for a living when you finish school. Honestly, High School Drafting and Design will get you nowhere in the real world. Now, if you are going to go to college for such a profession it would be useful college prep.
Metal construction will teach you a real skill that you might be able to put to use when you get out of High School. Maybe.
Like I said, it all really hinges on what you want to do with your life.
-
If you like both than take both, it's not like your paying for each class you take. If you don't like that idea than just take the easiest.
-
dont listen to Joachim, being a fish isnt that bad
-
Either. They are HS courses. Just earn a good grade regardless of what you take.
You start over once you graduate from HS anyways.
-
My school had a drafting/shop class, but this sounds like it's only a drafting class. Not sure what the metal construction entails but if you're able to learn some soldering or even welding, it may come in handy later in life. Soldering is a handy little skill to have. I can make two pieces of metal stick together with an arc welder, but it's not pretty, most people don't have a welder in their garage but a little torch is easy to store.
-
If you can learn how to draft things well, then what ever you are trying to build will end up looking alot better. Especially when you transfer your drawing files to a c n c machine or to a piece of wood/metal with a print out on paper and some spray adhesive. Youll be amazed at what you can design/build when you understand how it's going to go together before you even start.

Nothing personal skorpion but i hate freshmen.... :bhead

what she's carrying in her purse wouldn't bother so much as what's she's carrying in her bloodstream...use extra protection. :lol
architectural design and drafting can be a fun way to be introduced to the field of drafting. i was lucky enough to be able to take architectural and mechanical in school, the mechanical was more fun. we had to build working models of our mechanical designs.

i dont think anyone got the "purse" joke :rofl maybe because its kind of an inside thing...
...anyways, today we had a mini-day. i took the architectual drafting and design. i couldnt take both so i just chose that because its not on the other side of the school. once sept. 1st rolls around i guess im good to go.
oh and joachim, i carry a pillow under my gun :devil ..wait, what? :lol

You think your "free" as a senior? Wait until you graduate, you'll think being a senior in high school is a prison.

College:
Freshman: This is awesome, I'm out of the house, free to do whatever I want!
Sophomore: I'm a BA, living in my own house, we're going to have so many parties.
Junior: Man, this is a lot of work.
Senior: I DON'T WANNA GO TO THE REAL WORLD!

personally, I would do the metal shop. metal working isnt my thing, but it will porobably be more useful for me in the future. as MachFly said, do what will be more beneficial to your future.
and high school really isnt as bad as everyone makes it out to be. its what you make of it, so make it worth your time.
-
I'm a Senior, be careful on Freshmen Friday, may not happen first week, or the next. BUT IT WILL HAPPEN :D

Well all joking aside if you live in the US there is a big call for engineers right now and getting an autocad certificate can be a very useful thing.

:rofl our homecoming theme is jaws...awkward lol

Learn a skill like the metal working and you can't go wrong EVER! You can always learn design and drafting as you get older. REAL WORLD WORK PLACE SKILLS are the best for anything.

yup, I'm going to school after highschool to become a mechanical engineer. decent demand
-
In the past 10 years something like 40% of the engineering force (in America) has retired.
Were talking guys that started when the Apollo program was in the works.
-
As have the vast majority of machinists, sheet metal workers and the like that produce and make the things that an engineer dreams up. Most of the time those same workers are the ones that teach engineers how to do things the right way AFTER they went to college to learn how to draw on a computer.
At least that has been my experience with mechanical engineers.

A drafting class will not help you in any way with running a cnc machine. (period)

I am a machinist and you are 100% correct.

did you know those guys that went to college to "learn how to draw on a computer" are some of the people that design the M1A1 abrams tank, new IED resistant humvees and guns for our military? either way, drawing on a computer or building you cant have one without the other.

Lucky you, when I was in High School we didn't have much in the way of electives, barely anything. But what we did have, was awesome. I took robotics Junior and Senior year, and in that time we had 5 teams go to the world championships in Dallas, I even met grant from Mythbusters there.

What about the prints? Won't you understand them better with that class?
