I have a 1936 double barrel L.C. Smith 20 gauge. Next
-
Russian Tokarev TT 33 pistol, Dad brought it home from the Korean war said the guy wasnt going to need it anymore.
-
Good story. I got the shotgun through a great uncle (bought it new), my mom and then me.

-
remington 12 gauge semi auto goosegun 3 shot was my Grandpa's
-
crossman 6mm BB gun my grandfather gave to me last year before he had heart surgery, wasnt sure if it was because he just didnt have any use for it anymore since he got a new one to shoot the idiot coyote that tries to jump the fence or if he could die on that operating table. (he lived) but too this day, he never gave a reason.
-
Springfield armory 1911 my uncle got me for my 21st birthday (just last April)
-
12 guage side by side that we found in my Grandfather's basement after he passed away. After doing someone research, I have determined that it was most likely my Great Grandfather's gun and that it dates from the late 1880s to early 1890s.
My dad remembers it as the gun that my grandfather used to take out in the woods to shoot a few squirrels or ducks for my grandmother to cook for dinner when times were tough in the early 1930s.
For me, this particular shotgun, even though it isn't the most unique or most valuable gun in my collection, has the most meaning because it saw my family through hard times.
I had it inspected by a qualified gunsmith, had the firing pins replaced (had to have them fabricated), and I bought some special low pressure shells from a company in Georgia that specializes in ammunition designed for vintage shotguns.
It's actually a very pleasant gun to shoot.

Smith looks a lot like this, but no hammers. Good looking weapon.

I have a sling. Not sure of the dating but they used them eons ago. :D This one has 6 dinosaurs etched on it. I'm thinking it was kill marks.

My dad's old KA-BAR.

If I could buy one of these this would be it...

This is one of my favorites...
It's a hand-forged Damascus blade made by a blacksmith friend of mine in a coal-fired, hand-pumped forge, and hammered and folded on an anvil. These blades can run up to $100 per inch... He made the blade, and another friend hafted it and made the sheath.
I'm not overly fond of the sheath, but haven't gotten around to making a replacement yet.
I won this knife in a shooting match with my flintlock rifle several years ago. I had a choice of either the knife or a rifle. 10" blade, razor sharp, and nice and light.
I've really weeded most of my weapons down to where all of the ones I have are pretty prized. Rattlesnake-backed bows, flintlock rifles, muskets, and pistols, old shotguns, etc... This would be the toughest to replace though.
-
I have a number of them.... the GI bring back Arisaka 6.5mm Jap with the mum intact. The GI bring back 1943 Steyr k98 with "bad guy" markings intact (no "Russian capture" import markings!). The GI bring back 1944 Walther P38 with "bad guy" markings intact (I bought it from the vet's grandson). The 1942 Webley in .38/200 (.38 S&W) that says "War Department" on the grip.
But my most prized is my Mossberg .410ga bolt action shotgun much like the one Rob posted that was handed down to me from my grandfather (same one listed in my sig line), and the other is a Remington Model 11 12ga (Browning Auto-5) that was made in 1934. It was given to my father by his grandfather, then on to me when I was in high school.
I have so many, it is hard to name a few.

Silat has been looking up and down for that! But he tells the story that it's really only 5 dinosaur markings, as the 6th was an assist.
:D

Well, it was part of a weapon, but....
My great grandfather was wounded by a Japanese grenade, with shrapnel in his neck/back area. He survived (somehow, amazingly, fortunately), and the doctor pulled out the shrapnel pieces by pieces. We still have a piece of the shrapnel in the same box that contains his Purple Heart. Tiny thing about .5 inch in diameter and jet black. Hard to believe it was going thousands of miles per hour.

these are the 2 most prized weapons of mine. the first one some people dont consider a "weapon" because its a BB gun but hey, if it shoots projectiles, then its a weapon. (sorry about the quality, these were taken with a phone camera)
and heres a 4 mm co2 gun my grandfather had, then my father, then 7 years after he died, i have it. its got its place in my family and its a true piece of history for me.

you think a 1300 FPS pellet gun is a toy? or how about a 900 FPS CO2 gun is a toy? how about i shoot you in the leg with both of them and watch you call it a toy.
got pics of that BAR? i dont even think you've gotten more than 1 foot from a BAR. BTW weapons he has dont count as YOURS.

My father has a Webley service revolver from the Boer War stashed away in a secret place. It was used by either great grandfather or great-great, I forget.

wow, just amazing on how long its been around, i was thinking around 1894 but that didnt seem right to me after thinking for a while.

oh you could be right, have faith in yourself. The first boer war spanned from 1879-1915 and the so-called second boer war with the unimaginably brave and skillfull Dutch heroes spanned 1899-1902. Research a little on the battle of Skion Kop if you want to learn about the Dutch freedom fighters of that time. It's quite an incredible story.

i dont think a little co2 gun would kill anytihng at that speed.
they are just bb guns, I have a pellet gun and i will agree that it is not a toy, and go bird hunting with it all the time, BUT if your calling me a lier im calling your little air guns toys then.
i dont even think you have ever shot a real gun.
yes i will try to give you pics of mad dads BAR and for plus ill show you how to feild strip one :)

how can you even think such a thing? are you that shadowed from the real world when it comes to guns or are you that misinformed when it comes to CO2 guns. 900 FPS will kill anything smaller than a dog. and for you to say ive never shot a real gun, i have pic's of me shooting a 10 ga. shotgun and a M1-Garand at my hunter safety course gun range test. also, i never called you a liar from the beggining, "little air guns" arent toys. even a small 250 FPS airsoft gun i have isnt a toy. it hurts like hell and if it hits you in the eye, your blind from that eye forever. and i already know how to field strip a BAR. its called google, which you will probably use to get the pic of your BAR.
i called you out on your lie, now prove to me that it isnt or just admit the lie right now.

actually, yes it is a .22, it doesnt look like it because im using my phone camera and i have to stand up just to get the entire view of the gun its about 5 1/2 feet up because the view of it sucks. also, it looks like a BB gun because of the handle, it doesnt move like a BB gun would. the scope is mine though (kinda) i got it from my grandfather and put it on myself.
but the gun you were talking about in that link, it looks pretty cool

I'm afraid I'm going to require a better photograph. Otherwise I'm calling shenanigans on you.
Exhibit A: Your own photograph. While it is poorly focused, I recognize the little door where you poor the BBs into the gun, indicated with the red arrow.

Bragging (?) about shooting the leg off of a squirrel isn't so cool though.

Gonna have to second the "shenanigans"....that is a BB gun.

"DOH!"
:lol yes its a BB gun, im not thinking right today, i have a .22 and a BB gun i go squilling with. i took the pic of the wrong gun, there both similar, the BB gun is the one i posted, ill get the pic of the .22 in a bit. i just gotta find my other camera so the quality isnt so bad.
and mtnman, the squirrel died right away so it was painless. im just saying dont aim for the legs on a squirrel, its not right or ethical to watch an animal jump around in pain for enjoyment. its like watching a dog fight. (not the planes the animals) just not cool.

Thanks MtnMan, I had to go pick my oldest daughter up at the High School (just got home from a Golf match) and didn't have time to properly make my shenanigans case.
Skorpian... I assume that you are young. There's nothing wrong with being young. Here, you're going to bump into a lot of folks who are older then you and have a wide variety of knowledge and life experiences. Two, things you really need to know. First, be young. It's ok. Nobody expects you to have the experience that some of us have. Heck, I'm 41 years old. I've got a pretty significant head start on you. And there are plenty of folks around Aces High who have a huge head start on me. I would never hold it against you for being young. There's no reason to try and build yourself up by fibbing. Let life happen to you in due time. There's no need to rush it.
That said, if you do have a .22, I would love to see a photo of it.
Secondly... It's never a good idea to lie on an internet forum. You will be called on it. Somebody will always have more knowledge then you on any given topic. In this case, I had that exact BB gun when I was a kid. I know it very well.
-

Ah... Good deal! How'd it taste?
You'll lose some wounded animals if you hunt, at least if you do it with weapons. It's just how it goes. Make every effort to make good clean shots, and do your absolute best to recover anything you shoot, but you'll still have some disappointing, gut-wrenching mistakes you'll have to deal with. It's an unfortunate side to hunting.
It's one of the things I like about falconry. Either the bird makes a catch, or it doesn't 99.9% of the time. It's awful rare to have something get wounded that doesn't also get caught.

you know how rare that BB gun in that pic is to me? the scope was made by my granfather, he did it before he got heart surgery just for the heck of it. also, he fixed it up from when he was around 50 years old. all the parts are his in that thing.
i also have pics of my 3 favorite guns all in one, the top one is the least accurate but holy crap does that thing zing the pellets, i shot at a rabbit and the pellet bounced off a rock and hit a tree and dug itself about 2.8 cm into the tree.
now if i can just find my dang M1911 airsoft gun, its laying around somewhere. probably in the basement with all the other stuff we havent unpacked yet.
(sorry, i had to fix the mistake. i just dont like when people spell my name wrong when its right in front of them. just a small pet peeve. nothing too big.)

tasted great, also, about the wounded animal thing. i had shot a deer last season with my bow but it turned out to be a gut-shot. the day after we followed the blood trail but she had just gone so far (over a mile) we decided to give up on it that day. the day after that we headed back out only to find that it bled to death with her fawns next to her. was just horrible to know that i shot a doe that had some fawns to take care of and died a slow painful death.

I shot many a pellet and bb through my 760.
Had a friend of my parents come over to the house for dinner ( I was 12 I think ) He told us he could shoot through the center of a lifesaver if we threw it in to the air. We believed him until we thought hmmm maybe he is just missing. So he pulls out a pack of solid mints of some kind same size a lifesaver, we threw those into the air, he hit all but one of them.
Any way he did it with my 760, Lost count of the cicadas Ive killed with it though.
Brings back a lots of memories.

they taste better than bucks IMO. normally i dont shoot a doe if i see it has fawns, but if i dont see any fawns within my FOV i shoot. (i have 20/10 vision so i can see quite far in an open field) normally i'll pass up a doe if its early in the season but if its late in the hunting year (in early january) ill shoot anything that crosses my path.

LOL, I showed my son how to do that with a pellet rifle and marbles a week or two ago. He about crapped his pants... I'd been able to do it with a .22 rifle 15 years ago (we live out in the middle of nowhere) but hadn't tried it in a LONG time.
He was also impressed that I could cut poker card in half by shooting it on the edge at 50ft (standing, off hand) with my flintlock rifle. His mother told him I could do that, and he didn't believe her.

now if i can just find my dang M1911 airsoft gun, its laying around somewhere. probably in the basement with all the other stuff we havent unpacked yet.
(sorry, i had to fix the mistake. i just dont like when people spell my name wrong when its right in front of them. just a small pet peeve. nothing too big.)
The top one, the pump pistol. Is that the .177 cal version? I know that they made a .22 cal pellet version of that pistol. My brother had a .22 cal version, but they are rare around here because the .22 cal pellets are controlled the same as ammunition for a standard firearm. Here in Illinois, you used to need a FOID (Firearms Owners ID) card to buy. That may not be the case now days, I'm not sure. We had one of those revolvers too. CO2 power, shoots .177 cal pellets. Pretty accurate. Never had one of the P38 BB guns but I remember when they came out. I had a pellet pistol that looked like a Beretta 92.
Hang on to that scope, if it was your grandfather's.
This is a youth sized .22LR that belonged to my grandfather when he was a boy. When I inherited it, the stock was broken at the wrist. This photo was taken after I finished repairing the stock. My youngest daughter likes shooting this rifle. It gives me great satisfaction that she is shooting the same rifle that my grandfather shot at about her age about 90 years ago. I think that, in some way, it connects her to my grandfather, who she never really knew.

they all shoot the .177 round, the top one is sold in 2 variants that look the same but shoot different rounds, the first variant (pellet gun) shoots .177 shots and the second variant shoots .22 rounds and that one isnt very hard to find up here in oshkosh, theres a store across the street from the place where i shoot my bow that sells both variants for a good price.

I had the one in the top of that picture skorpion. Mine had a shoulder stock. What was fun is shooting q-tips out of it, and bird seed.

mine has a shoulder stock, but i didnt like it so i put it away in the attic. i like the pistol grip on that instead of trying to treat it like its a rifle grip.
-
they taste better than bucks IMO. normally i dont shoot a doe if i see it has fawns, but if i dont see any fawns within my FOV i shoot. (i have 20/10 vision so i can see quite far in an open field) normally i'll pass up a doe if its early in the season but if its late in the hunting year (in early january) ill shoot anything that crosses my path.
I have 20/20 vision and I find it very hard to spot a fawn kneeling in the grass. I'm not arguing about your hunting, just a comment.

i usually go hunting in corn/soy bean fields. they typically stick out once its all been harvested except for that one nice little spot they like to stay by

I have three that I really like.
The first is a Hatfield .50cal flintlock. Made by Tom Hatfield great-great Grandson of Moses Hatfield from the Hatfield & McCoy feud. It has one of the purtyest pieces of wood for the stock. It shoots great, but I’m too nervous about banging it up to take it into the woods too often.
This is an 1864 Springfield .58cal musket. It was pieced together out of the parts from a couple of muskets back in the 1960s. The gunsmith replaced the first couple of inches of the barrel (including the breech) so it is actually a pretty good shooter. You can see where two separate stocks were joined under the first band. This is the rifle that I use for deer hunting.
Finally, I have a very small derringer that was given to me by my Grandfather. It still has the original deerskin holster.

i dont think a little co2 gun would kill anytihng at that speed.
they are just bb guns, I have a pellet gun and i will agree that it is not a toy, and go bird hunting with it all the time, BUT if your calling me a lier im calling your little air guns toys then.
i dont even think you have ever shot a real gun.
yes i will try to give you pics of mad dads BAR and for plus ill show you how to feild strip one :)
You can kill a man with a BB gun. They are not toys. Even the spring loaded one can be dangerous.
Year back I had a Crossman Pump 177 rifle and a Pump 22 pellet pistol. Had a lot of fun with those.

Kinda random and an oddball - anyone stumble upon decent/cheap 45-70 ammo lately? Burned up the last batch I reloaded here at home while on vacation last week (also a metric ton of 22-hornet, but that I'm set on), and upon realizing when it was the last time I reloaded a bunch of 45-70 (I think March or April) I have come to the conclusion I simpley need more (more to shoot, more to reload when I do a batch). Call me lazy for not just buying more empty brass (or wanting to drive to my "local" reloading shop here in LA for it).

Not sure what you consider cheap, but check this out.

They sell the brass too.

Not too shaby, thanks Dave. I think if I dig I might find a little cheaper brass out there, but $22 a box (normaly $40) aint bad at all, although I've never tried the BVAC brand before. $27 Hornady though! Must be a typo, I've never seen them go for less than $40 anywhere.

Glad I could help. That's a respectable company too. I've ordered all kinds of stuff from them.

Still waiting for the time where I have the extra cash, but I have an old friend who is holding an M1 Garand for me. So, I guess its not my prized weapon.....yet, but it will be!

tasted great, also, about the wounded animal thing. i had shot a deer last season with my bow but it turned out to be a gut-shot. the day after we followed the blood trail but she had just gone so far (over a mile) we decided to give up on it that day. the day after that we headed back out only to find that it bled to death with her fawns next to her. was just horrible to know that i shot a doe that had some fawns to take care of and died a slow painful death.
Luckily thats never happened to me, tho Ive come close. Once I bounced an arrow off a twig I didnt see and ended up shooting the doe in the rump. I sat there for 1/2 hour so as not to push her feeling horrible about it. Luckily the arrow hit a major artery and the doe didnt make it more then 50 yards when I found her.
By Bow season yearlings are weaned and able to fend for themselves. There are exceptions, the very few late births, but generally the fawns will have no problem finding food and companionship. The fact you felt so bad means your a responsable hunter. :salute
I take the first fat doe I see and then I concentrate on scrapes. You have to take does or you will help ruin a deer population. We used to have a big problem with deer herd management cause hunters, most of all bowhunters, would refuse to take does years ago.

since i live up in wisconsin now, and the does are nice and plenty the DNR actually encourages shooting does to shorted the population. its grown so big people in oshkosh and green bay have reported seeing deer in the cities. ill usually take bucks right in the middle of the rut with my deer slayer (bow) and later in the season ill pass up on a buck if its a tiny one. (6 or less points)
ill get pics up of my bows later, i have my hunting one and my target shooting one. the target shooting bow is a old darton my dad had a long time ago before he passed. the new one is a bear oddesy 2 that comes with a nice looking draw-back string. im at max poundage though, so im going to need a bow with more than 50 lb's of draw weight. :lol

again, sorry for the quality. im using my phone camera because somebody hid the good one or its somewhere in the basement in one of the 500000 boxes down there. this is the darton, weighs a good 18 pounds and is squeaky as hell if im shooting in -20 degree weather. :lol poundage also seems to be set at 90 when its actually 65 in weather colder than 5 degrees.
if i do go hunting with this, i make sure to use my electric pink carbon fiber arrows with baby blue expandable broadheads. :neener:

Did you get those squirrels over by Oshkosh? Is there any good public land over that way to hunt or were you hunting on your parents land?

the area circled in red is DNR land. alot of good duck hunting in that area, i bagged 3 ducks in about 10 minutes of being there. i have another pic somewhere, if you ask the guys at the farm nice enough, im sure they'll let you hunt their land. (about 4000 feet to the west is the farm)
and these pics are outdated. some of the area to the west is now marsh/swamp. a trappers paradise, it has beavers and tons of muskrats living there. you cant throw a stone without hitting a muskrat house.

Holy cow Skorpion, you're close! I go through Omro all the time on my way back and forth to work in Oshkosh. I live near Poy Sippi.
I'm curious about the public land you're talking about (I don't see the picture). What kind of water does it have for ducks? Small ponds? Is it the Waterfowl Production Area near Eureka Road? I've been looking for a place to fly my peregrine on ducks, and that's one of the areas I've been considering. Any pheasants on that property that you know of?

it has some marshy/swampy waters. every time i go past there, theres at least 4 duck hunters in their boat about a mile out. no pheasants that i know of, but i do see some here or there about a half mile away from the land that im talking about. there are also a few small ponds on the outer edge of the marsh. its actually some really good hunting out there if your ever interested.
(BTW just a question-where do you work that you have to drive from poy sippi to oshkosh every day? my guess would be oshkosh truck)

Is it the Waterfowl Production area to the west of Omro? I don't know of any big water out there? I'm limited to smaller bodies of water with the peregrine. She'll intimidate ducks too much to get them to fly off of big water.
I work at the Bemis/Curwood/Milprint plant across HWY 41 from the EAA airport. I just drive that far because it's a good-paying job and I refuse to live any closer than this to an area as populated as Oshkosh. I'm squeamish about being as close as I am, lol.
DO you know if the big marshy are near the intersection or 21 and 49 is public? I'd heard it was bought by the DNR, but then heard rumors they may have sold it again?

the DNR didnt sell it last i checked, but only some of the marsh is public at the intersection of 21 and 49 i believe. and it is close to the waterfowl production area west of omro i think. you might want to check it out sometime. but to be honest i havent actually seen it myself. the area next to the DNR land at the intersection of 21 and 49 isnt huntable because its dangerously close to the highway.

Thanks Skorpion, I'll have to look into it.
I'm not too worried about 21, if I can get the ducks to flush away from the road (I'm not using a firearm). That area near 49 looks to be too big though anyway. I think the ducks will just keep dumping back into the water with the falcon overhead.
The WPA on the other hand, looks pretty good. If there are other hunters using it though I'll have to wait for the gun season to close first :^( And hope everything isn't already frozen up...

if your not using a firearm to duck hunt, your either using a bow, or throwing a knife at them :lol
but hey, any time man. if you ever want to know about anything up north (by the town mountian) or if you ever want to go hunting out by waushara county i know of a few really good places to get some venicine. :t
-
I've got quite a few rifles and pistols, but the one with the most historical significance is my 1916 Enfield SMLE, which served with the Australian Light Horse, 4th Brigade in Palestine. I can trace it to a specific soldier, who died, ironically, by being run over by a lorry after the armistice....

I'm using a bird (a peregrine falcon) to hunt the ducks and pheasants. I just let her get up a ways above the ducks, and I walk in and flush them. She comes down and gives them a 200mph kick in the head.
Waushara county does have some really good deer hunting. That's where I've been deer hunting for the last 18 years :D

theres this nice soy bean field, hasnt been harvested yet out there in waushara county, theres at least 2 bucks and 1 doe with my name written on them. i already got one doe, and i have a her kill marking on my bow. 1 down, 3 to go..:devil

I have to admit, I'm kinda partial to it myself :D She doesn't scream though, just streaks in like a meteor. She sounds like a blow torch coming down. Pretty impressive. You can hear her bells whistle for a looooong ways if the wind catches them right.
Here's a gun I picked up a few weeks ago. I stripped the finish (ugly, pale, scratched and dented), ironed the dents out of the stock, refinished it, and fitted a new pad to it. 12ga Sears 101.7 (Stevens 311) SxS (early 1950's). Had a blast shooting trap and skeet with it this weekend (skeet is pretty tough with a modified and full choke...). Taking it out to ND for pheasants in a few weeks :rock I've wanted an older SxS for a long time, but didn't want to pay too much for one. I was hoping I could find one that just needed some loving attention... My new favorite (after my muzzleloaders, of course).

I've posted these before, but why not again?
When I'm bowhunting, this is what I like to carry (all made by me)-
(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m309/Mtnman_03/DSC_0004.jpg)
And my primary firearms (again, all built by me; although the Bess at the top I did build from a kit)-
(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m309/Mtnman_03/DSC_0265.jpg)
A favorite from the past (justified with the thought of home defense, of course). Alas, I sold it a few years back (again, made by me but the barrel was cast by a friend of mine). I made the metal hardware fittings on my coal-forge :D

you don't want to be breaking in to someones house who has a pair of these.

Mine would have to be my Taurus Judge 3 inch cylinder, and 3 inch barrel, simply because that is what I carry concealed, I found a real nice bulldog outside the pants holster that conceals it nicely when I have my shirt untucked. Yes I have the Texas Concealed hand gun permit.
The next would be my 1947 model 47 Winchester that belong to my grandfather
And then probably the .22 sears boys gun that my dad gave me for my 8th birthday.
Both the 30.30 and the Judge go with me when I go pig hunting, which in Texas you don't need a Lisence, and there is no season, and no limit.

I'm curious which ammo you load into it for concealed carry? I have the Public Defender version of the Judge (shorter chamber, shorter barrel then yours).
I just haven't been very impressed with the guns performance at anything farther then about 5 feet, even with the PDX ammo. I just feel like an Officers size 1911 in 45 ACP with 7 round mags provides more effective stopping power out to a much greater distance.
-
The first thing out is the winchester PDX1 3 inch, it has 4 discs and 16 BB's, after that is a Hornady 255 gr. hollow point. I alternate those, and if that doesn't take what ever I am shooting at down then I can beat them with the heavy bastard. I like the 1911 also but I prefer wheel guns. My wife doesn't like autos at all, and since we both have our carry, I wanted to get something that she was comfortable shooting. The public defender is a great looking pistol, when I got my Judge, they had not come out with it, how is the kick on it? Mine is not really that bad, if you are shooting the Winchester cowboy plinking loads it kicks about like a .22 Mag single 6, but when you start loading some big loads it climbs pretty good, but is atoll easily controllable. But jeeesssuuusss it is expensive to target shoot with, I am fixing to get into reloading, anybody got any suggestions?
-
This is one of my favorites...
True Damascus steel has not been reproduced since the 1700's so it is more likely forged crucible or pattern welded steel (which is still a hot, loud and laborious job) :P
O-1 tool steel is a nice substitute, however. I almost didn't give this to the intended recipient, but I figured since I had put his family crest on the handle... I may as well give it to him :)

The public defender is a great looking pistol, when I got my Judge, they had not come out with it, how is the kick on it?
It kicks harder then I expected it to, but it is pretty easy to manage for me. My wife hates it (says it hurts her wrist. I need to work with her on her grip), she would much rather shoot my Taurus PT92 (Beretta 92 clone). If the People's Republic of Illinois ever joins the rest of the nation with Concealed Carry, I will most likely get her a smaller framed 9mm or .380. Or maybe a 38 revolver, Taurus makes some nice ones.
-
C. none of the above-i got my squirrels at my mothers friends land about 3 miles north.
the area i circled was for duck hunting, im not so sure if you can go squilling in there.
What the hell is a squill? Tree rat is translated to SQUIRREL. My prized gun right now is my 1922 Mosin-nagant, short barreled, blade sight with sniper bolt. All parts are Russian but from all 3 manufacturers. Myself of Nefari had never seen one like it, so I watched Enemy at the Gates very closely and found it's almost twin. It is the gun Vasili uses as a child during the wolf hunt. I have several old shotguns that I don't know the year they were made, one is and old red letter Winchester single shot .12 gauge.

Wow, your firearms laws ARE a bit extreme... ( i was just reading about them) Stats say 1 in 50 Americans carry a concealed weapon. 1 in 15 Pennsylvanians carry a concealed weapon :devil
Perhaps your wife would like the piece that my wife carries? Ruger LCP
A .380 is certainly not a man-stopper, but when loaded with hollow-points, it is plenty to make someone reconsider the course of action they were previously contemplating with regard to violating my wife's safety :devil
At just under 9-1/2 oz. with a total size of 3-1/2" x 5" x 3/4", it is just about the size of a stack of 3 x 5 cards and is the perfect purse gun :aok

That is what I was afraid of, they also make a Judge like mine but in a light weight frame, I like mine out of all the ones I have seen the extra weight makes it controllable, I would hate to shoot one ot the new pocket defenders. They have a 2.5 inch chamber, and I think a one inch barrel, on a composite frame. My wife has a Taurus 38 that she likes, but she does say that if she ever shoots someone in the house, they are gonna die, just because of how loud it is, and she doesn't like her ears ringing. I hope one day the entire U.S. goes concealed carry, it is a pain in the butt keeping up with the can and can nots are.

Well almost, but not quite, but our gun laws are some of the best, for the actual law abiding, gun toting people. Our self- defense policies are pretty nice also, and when defending ones property our laws are for the property owners, and not the criminals.

Yeah, they (finally) just amended our "Castle Doctrine" laws so that they now reflect what is essentially common sense, anyway :aok

Yes, being a law abiding citizen in Illinois is punished. Once the kids are grown and out of the house, we may move North into Wisconsin. My family owns 20 acres on a lake in the North woods. I would love to put another small house up there for my wife and I. All the hunting and fishing a guy can stand right out the back door.

Sorry, Had to :devil
Planning on getting an original M1911 as soon as possible (21, living in California). Got a .22 target rifle from my childhood friend when he left for the army, he got it from his Israeli grandfather. The thing has such a light trigger, either that or I have heavy hands, but for me it fires if I so much as barely touch the trigger. Also, another friend of mine has a rifle his old man used in the Biathlon at the Olympics in Lake Placid. Love how the bolt works on the Biathlon rifles.

If you are looking for a new M1911-A1, I highly recommend the Rock Island Armory pistols. I have the full size Government and the smaller Officer's size. Both are great shooters, and inexpensive too.

wow, if you get that original M1911 you gotta show us ASAP! i've seen modified M1911's and knock-off's but it'd be kinda nice to see a real one for a change.

True Damascus steel has not been reproduced since the 1700's so it is more likely forged crucible or pattern welded steel (which is still a hot, loud and laborious job) :P
Hand-forged, hand-hammered, folded, hammered, folded, etc...
Not true damascus, I think he started with a piece of cable.
I have a different knife that's pattern-welded. Nice looking too, but not fancy or nearly as large (3" blade?). I use it as a hunting knife.

For the gun owner IL. sucks. The State is ran by hacks who are masters of blaming their own policy failures for crime on guns. In Chicago citizens only recently gained the right to even own a handgun for the home, but even then the city put up as many restrictions to limit legal gun ownership as they can.
I look back at my career and think of so many of the victims who could have stopped a serious crime against themselves had they just been armed. The really sad part is most have been brainwashed against guns and wouldnt have had one with them anyways even if they could. Im talking armed robberys here, rapes, Homocide, serious Battery, Home Invasion, Kidnapping, or just plain getting shot at.
Im a Policeman so I carry 24/7. The Ruger LCP is one of the many tools I use. I have always backed citizen carry everywhere as a matter of Constitutionality.

Mtnman,
Was the blade differential tempered? Or was it tempered as single piece,if thats the correct term?

I've got quite a few rifles and pistols, but the one with the most historical significance is my 1916 Enfield SMLE, which served with the Australian Light Horse, 4th Brigade in Palestine. I can trace it to a specific soldier, who died, ironically, by being run over by a lorry after the armistice....
Is there a way you can trace it by serial number? Cause I'd like to know the origin of mine, and IIRC, when I tried it before, I couldn't find anything about it.
-

Amen.
It's just a matter of time here. The pro-CCW folks in the State Congress have been getting stronger. It'll happen eventually. I'll be the first guy in line.

20 years ago, I worked with this guy who wanted to borrow 20 bucks. He said he would make me a tiny knife and axe. He said the axe handle is Mammoth tusk, and the knife handle was some sort of African wood. The photo is not very good, but they look really good in person.

I'm using a bird (a peregrine falcon) to hunt the ducks and pheasants. I just let her get up a ways above the ducks, and I walk in and flush them. She comes down and gives them a 200mph kick in the head.
Waushara county does have some really good deer hunting. That's where I've been deer hunting for the last 18 years :D
you ever see the video of the guy who took his peregrine up to 30,000 ft? both jumped out of the plane..... they recorded over 300 mph from the Falcon :O
I love a nice pattern welded blade :rock
there is a guy in this country that makes pattern wielded Katana's from Cable..."Dragonfly forge" I think, he makes awesome stuff.

Your right Ink,dragon forge does make very nice blades but then he charges hefty prices!
I'd consider getting a blade from him,you know a shorter than average blade but at the time I think he want close to 100 bucks an inch. At that price a Paul Chen blade sounds like a bargain!
BTW,nice paper cut, weren't you taught not to play with sharp things?? :devil

ya that is a Paul Chen.....the "Tiger" sick blade cost about 1300, the Dragon forge though...man I want one of his Cable Katana's....he wont sell them if he cant cut through a 1/4" piece of cable... :O
he actually goes out and collects his own ore and carbon...or creates his own carbon...everything from scratch, the way he was taught in Japan. I think I saw a 4,000$ price tag.....if I could afford it I would pay that without batting a eye.
hell I dropped the 1300$ on the Paul Chen without thinking twice, it was the most expensive blade in the store...I have a serious love for the Samaria Sword, strange seeings how I am French and Irish. :lol

Just looked into this thread, and seen PFD's shotgun on the first page. Where was that one manufactured, if i can ask? I own a very simmilar one, but thats a czech copy of an old german hunting shotgun.
Also got a czech copy of a Mauser rifle, manufactured in Brno, thats a great gun.

It was manufactured here in the US, by a company that would make guns and then sell them to hardware stores who would then sell the gun under their own name. My gun, was sold by a hardware store in St Louis, Missouri. It isn't really valuable to anyone, other then myself. It was made somewhere on the East coast, the name of the town and the manufacturing company escapes me at the moment.

Black powder is a lot of fun! I have a reproduction 1860 Army, which is similar (sort of) to your pistol. I also have this reproduction Charleville Musket which is a lot of fun to shoot. It's more accurate then you'd think too.

On another note, if you have been shooting a synthetic black powder substitue like Pyrodex, I strongly suggest you get some actual black powder. World of difference.
I buy my black powder here. http://www.powderinc.com/cgi-bin/bpstore/perlshop.cgi?ACTION=thispage&thispage=order.htm&ORDER_ID=397752553
Only downside is you have to buy 5lbs at a time.

I haven't tryed a flintlock yet. I've had my eye on a Kentucky longrifle kit that I may get next year. I like the way black powder shoots, just don't like the mess. I've been using triple7 pellets but damn they're pricey. I paid almost 40 bucks for a box of 100 at Walmart today.
Here is a .50 cal rifle that's special to me as I made it myself. It's a Knight LK93. I worked at Knight Rifles for a few years back in the late 90s...before they sold out and shutdown. Tony Knight used to host the "Governors Hunt" every year and invite state political figures and music singers like Ted Nugent and John Anderson. John Anderson would come every year and he actually used my rifle on one of his hunts! I wouldn't take a million dollars for this gun, but to anyone else it's just an old muzzleloader.

Thanks for the GunPowder link Dave. Even at a 5Lb minimum that's not a bad price considing I just paid 37 bucks and some change for 6.8 ounces for the pellets. Definitely worth looking into :salute

Good thing is you can get mixed lots if you have different weapons. Last time I bought I got 2lbs of 2F, 2 lbs of 3F, and 1lb of 4F for priming. They don't care how you mix and match as long as you are buying 5lbs.

I had a Colt 1860 back in college, but a friend blew it up when he forgot to grease the chambers. One hell of a bang...
He pulled the trigger once, and one chamber fired. On his second pull the remaining 5 chambers fired. One ball went through the barrel, one blew itself into the loading plunger and embedded itself there (blowing the lever and lever hook off) and the other 3 just went "harmlessly" somewhere else. Blew the revolver right out of his hand. Fortunately, beyond the gun and some pride, nothing got damaged.
Following that, I switched back to flintlock single-shots. I like them better because they've got more power, better accuracy, and shoot quicker at the range (I can load and shoot 10 shots with a single shot pistol in the time it takes to load and fire six shots out of a revolver). Of course, if I had a bunch of bad guys after me, the revolver would probably be a better choice.
This is a .54 caliber flintlock pistol that is actually consuming a 70 gr charge of 2F powder (based on not finding any unburned granules on a white bed sheet spread out in front of me). I built it to match my rifle, so I could use the same powder, patch, and ball for both (makes things a lot easier in the field).
It's got a great lock on it, with nice, quick ignition and a smooth trigger-

I agree with you on the powder. There isn't a synthetic made that works well in a flintlock.

My Non-Refurbished 1954 Tula and Izhevsk Arsenal SKS rifles.
The Soviets built the SKS from 1949 to 1956. They were the main battle rifle until the AK47 took the place of the SKS in the mid 50s. Most Soviet SKS rifles were issued to troops from Siberia to East Germany and wear and tear would eventually see these rifles back to the Arsenal for refurbishment of some type.
These two rifles have never been refurbished. They escaped the hands of Ivan and were stored in cosmoline until they started the importing. Soviet SKS rifles are no longer being imported and the odds of finding a non-refurbed Russian SKS are growing slimmer by the day.
I was told that the odds of finding a Non-Refurb Tula are 40 to 1. The odds for Izhevsk are more like 300 to 1 as the Izhevsk arsenal only produced the SKS in 1953 and 1954.
So... They are my prized weapons.

I put a lot of effort into shaping the touch hole. I had bought a white lightning insert for it, but after looking at the insert, I decided with a little effort I could get the same effect without the insert. That video was the first shot with the newly shaped hole. Needless to say, I'm pleased with the result.

That video was the first shot with the newly shaped hole. Needless to say, I'm pleased with the result.
I've considered boring mine out, and adding a touch hole insert as well. I just have the hole drilled through the barrel right now, and it's pretty dang slow.

If you want to try the white lightning insert, PM me your mailing address and I'll send you the one I bought. I don't think I will ever use it.

Here is one of my favorite weapons currently. I made it 5 months ago and have been waiting for it to season. Now my old primary longbow is on the way out and I am starting to practice with this one. It weighs 120lbs at full draw though I am not yet able to get much beyond 110lbs on it.
