I almost got a 1860 and will before it's all over but I want to get a 2nd 1858 so I have a pair and I'm dieing to get my hand on an old Sharpe's 50-90. But man do they ever want the bucks for one

On another note, if you have been shooting a synthetic black powder substitue like Pyrodex, I strongly suggest you get some actual black powder.  World of difference.

I haven't tryed a flintlock yet. I've had my eye on a Kentucky longrifle kit that I may get next year. I like the way black powder shoots, just don't like the mess. I've been using triple7 pellets but damn they're pricey. I paid almost 40 bucks for a box of 100 at Walmart today.

Here is a .50 cal rifle that's special to me as I made it myself. It's a Knight LK93. I worked at Knight Rifles for a few years back in the late 90s...before they sold out and shutdown. Tony Knight used to host the "Governors Hunt" every year and invite state political figures and music singers like Ted Nugent and John Anderson.  John Anderson would come every year and he actually used my rifle on one of his hunts! I wouldn't take a million dollars for this gun, but to anyone else it's just an old muzzleloader.  

She's still dead on at 100 yds using 100grains Pyrodex Pellets and 350 grain bullet with 209 triple7 primer.

Thanks for the GunPowder link Dave. Even at a 5Lb minimum that's not a bad price considing I just paid 37 bucks and some change for 6.8 ounces for the pellets. Definitely worth looking into

Good thing is you can get mixed lots if you have different weapons.  Last time I bought I got 2lbs of 2F, 2 lbs of 3F, and 1lb of 4F for priming.  They don't care how you mix and match as long as you are buying 5lbs.

I had a Colt 1860 back in college, but a friend blew it up when he forgot to grease the chambers.  One hell of a bang... 

He pulled the trigger once, and one chamber fired.  On his second pull the remaining 5 chambers fired.  One ball went through the barrel, one blew itself into the loading plunger and embedded itself there (blowing the lever and lever hook off) and the other 3 just went "harmlessly" somewhere else.  Blew the revolver right out of his hand.  Fortunately, beyond the gun and some pride, nothing got damaged.

Following that, I switched back to flintlock single-shots.  I like them better because they've got more power, better accuracy, and shoot quicker at the range (I can load and shoot 10 shots with a single shot pistol in the time it takes to load and fire six shots out of a revolver).  Of course, if I had a bunch of bad guys after me, the revolver would probably be a better choice.

This is a .54 caliber flintlock pistol that is actually consuming a 70 gr charge of 2F powder (based on not finding any unburned granules on a white bed sheet spread out in front of me).  I built it to match my rifle, so I could use the same powder, patch, and ball for both (makes things a lot easier in the field).

It's got a great lock on it, with nice, quick ignition and a smooth trigger-


This is the same shot at 1/4 speed, just because I think it's cool, lol-


Still hoping to get a deer with it...  I had an opportunity last year, but let my 11yr old have it instead

I agree with you on the powder.  There isn't a synthetic made that works well in a flintlock.

Nice quick ignition on your musket too!  It looks much quicker than the ignition on my Brown Bess.

20 years ago, I worked with this guy who wanted to borrow 20 bucks.  He said he would make me a tiny knife and axe.  He said the axe handle is Mammoth tusk, and the knife handle was some sort of African wood.  The photo is not very good, but they look really good in person.

My Non-Refurbished 1954 Tula and Izhevsk Arsenal SKS rifles.

The Soviets built the SKS from 1949 to 1956. They were the main battle rifle until the AK47 took the place of the SKS in the mid 50s. Most Soviet SKS rifles were issued to troops from Siberia to East Germany and wear and tear would eventually see these rifles back to the Arsenal for refurbishment of some type.

These two rifles have never been refurbished. They escaped the hands of Ivan and were stored in cosmoline until they started the importing. Soviet SKS rifles are no longer being imported and the odds of finding a non-refurbed Russian SKS are growing slimmer by the day.

I was told that the odds of finding a Non-Refurb Tula are 40 to 1. The odds for Izhevsk are more like 300 to 1 as the Izhevsk arsenal only produced the SKS in 1953 and 1954.

So... They are my prized weapons.

I put a lot of effort into shaping the touch hole.  I had bought a white lightning insert for it, but after looking at the insert, I decided with a little effort I could get the same effect without the insert.  That video was the first shot with the newly shaped hole.  Needless to say, I'm pleased with the result.

I've considered boring mine out, and adding a touch hole insert as well.  I just have the hole drilled through the barrel right now, and it's pretty dang slow.

Here is one of my favorite weapons currently. I made it 5 months ago and have been waiting for it to season. Now my old primary longbow is on the way out and I am starting to practice with this one. It weighs 120lbs at full draw though I am not yet able to get much beyond 110lbs on it.
