Just needed the King of Monsters. Go, go Godzilla!!!
-
The part that made me crack up. At about 1:14 biplane on fire, pilot looks back, other pilot gives nod
like permission to bail.

Curtiss Hawk IIIs vs Ki-27s... The Hawks would easily out-turn the Nates, which forced the Japanese to adopt hit and run tactics with their faster Ki-27s, not unlike those used by the AVG fighting the Ki-27s in Tomahawks and few years later.
It's a rather poorly made film, but what other films depict the war between China and Japan? The Chinese were poorly equipped and often poorly led, but they didn't lack for courage.
-
I had to laugh at some of the stupid replies. Film was terrible for the first 10 seconds.... that is all I could watch.
-
Different culture and a movie company with a very low budget. It wasn't that bad, it reminded me of the old air combat movies like God is my Copilot and Flying Tigers. You had to settle for models instead of computer graphics. Personally I thought it was interesting to get a Chinese take on the war. :aok

Reminded me more of the first Buck Rogers movie serials.
BTW The movie Flying Tigers with John Wayne also had another actor John Carroll (he was the new cocky pilot). He was a good friend of our Dad's. We actually stayed with him and his family in our travels.
He also played Zoro in the movies.

That's cool Shuffler. :aok I know the guy you are refering to.
My wife's father was good friends with Dan Blocker or Hoss from Bonanza. They grew up together and my wife remembers him visiting their home when he was in town.

She has also met his son Dirk from Baa Baa Blacksheep fame.

I don't know how you can hate on that. I think it's awesome. Much better graphics than AH too...

How did you make it that far? I stopped before hitting the 2 minute mark. :uhoh
-
How about the deHavilland Beaver at around the 6:00?
How about the head sets and microphones used by the pilots?
-
:lol the explosions and flames were the same as what you see on early godzilla movies. anyone else notice the strings on the planes? how about that awesome formation turn?
-
:rofl :rofl :rofl
-
did anybody notice the biplanes had no landing gear but the monoplanes did
-
There were some models that had retractable landing gear... but not the ones depicted, though.

If the Japanese were supposed to be flying A5Ms or Ki-27s and the Chinese were supposed to be flying I-153s, then despite how bad it is, they got that right.
-
Are you sure? I mean, really sure that is the worst?
I take your crappy planes on a string movie, and raise you this: -

I'm with Furball on this one. No film worse then that one. How it ever made it to the screen is beyond me.
-
That's nothing! Try this bad boy on for size. It is rated as the single worst film to ever besmirch the silver screen. Plan 9 from Outer Space!

come on, give some credit where credit is due, there were no strings on the planes and some of the dogfight scenes were fairly well done. i think some of you guys are just miffed because kate beckensale wasn't wearing a skin tight pleather suit.

There is no credit due for that abomination. At least with strings on the plane I can suspend my disbelief and potentially enjoy the movie. Pearl Harbor allows for no such suspension, just disbelief at how bad it was.
-
I guess you guys would cry about the original Godzilla movies as well. It's an old move people, there wasn't always 100 million dollar big explosion Hollywood budgets or computer animation. They made best use of what they had at the time.

My favorite airplane movie will always be "Air Force". No doubt that models showed up often, and the story was over the top at times. But it never claimed to be the best thing ever and all the early B17 inside and out stuff makes it great fun.
Biggest mistake ever made was trying to make a serious Godzilla movie. They miss the point. It's supposed to be over the top and silly. That's what makes those old ones fun :)
