Please get all of your squad members to vote! The results of this poll will be concluded after 28 days. At that time the results will be released. The FSO staff is not required to make any changes to the start time as a result of the poll but the poll will be used to guide us in a final decision on this matter. Thank you.
-
Shouldn't that be 10Pm EST?
-
Done. I will get it up as a sticky soon.
-
I voted. Now, I'm an official member of the HTC virtual citizenry.
Please, keep the applause to a mininum.
-
Watch it Kuya...you might get called for Jury Duty now...
-
Part of the reason i attend FSO is because its later and Im free to fly. Most fridays Im doing something with Mrs Filth till then. No, not that...
-
:aok
-
I know we have a couple European players on. Would that force them to get out of bed an hour earlier?
-
I voted yes, only because my new job has forced me out of FSO.

More time for brewing :rock
-
Changes the whole makeup of FSO for me. Instead of being a higher probability of making it it turns into a nearly 100% chance of not making it.
-
My only concern is that it would hurt the existing player base without assurance of bringing in any new players. You need to take note of the number of people who are saying they do not support a time change. Odds are, that is the number you stand to lose immediately... and that does not factor in those that do not visit the boards and didnt vote, or those that would leave because their friends left who woudlnt be able to fly due to a time change. If a squad CO has to drop out, you run the risk of losing an entire squad.
-
I could go for a 1/2 earlier.
Split the difference.
-
Im not going to bother with making it a sticky but I will bump it to the point where I think we have enough responses. All squads have been emailed re the poll. Please ask your members to vote.
-
My squad {The GunFighters} will be affected in both ways. The earlier start will allow some of my squaddies to join that normally wouldn't cause they don't like to stay up so late. Others won't be able to fly now due to not getting on line in time. I personally don't work a 9-5 job and don't know until that day if I can make FSO or not so the change is irrelevant to me.
-
Yep, let's start an hour earlier.. Wolf
-
As a West Coaster, I already have difficulty making FSO due to my work schedule. If there is any overtime, I absolutely miss it without fail. Moving it an hour earlier would definately make it impossible for me to attend. Too bad it's not all about me... :)
-
I vote for 9 0clock eastern time...... :joystick: :airplane: :old:
-
I'm a little torn here.... It certainly helps, particularly, since I have little kids and they are asleep. Barring unforseen work commitments, I can usually attend the 10 p.m. Central time.
I'm not sure I can normally attend the 9 p.m. CT due to family or work issues.

Earlier than 10 EST isn't doable. The window for any evening weekday SEA event is going to be 10 EST-11 EST if you want both coasts involved. Its really a small window. :frown:
-
You are running the risk of not only losing EU players but, teens and some married and unmarried folk. 11pm has always been the time for FSO for as long as I can remember. Dont fix what is not broken.
:salute

Just looking at where the voting stand right now... I dont think FSO would survive the loss of that percentage as it would apply to the total number of FSO players. If you have on the average of 300 players per frame... you are talking about a loss of 78 players as it stands now. I doubt very seriously you would gain even half of that by changing the time. Those that support a time change are already taking part in FSO... so there is no way to judge how much of a pickup, if any, you would get from it.
No... this is not going to help grow FSO numbers at all. It has a better chance of hurting it, and it is a risk not worth taking. There are some of us for whom the only reason we are still here is FSO. If those people are no longer able to take part in it due to a time change, they may very well leave AH completely... not only hurting the community, but HTC as well.
ELD66 is correct... FSO is not broken... the numbers are just fine. But if you want to attract more players, it needs to be done through active promotion. Get FSO on the HTC home page with a nice big ad. Dont know if this would work... but why not award perks that would carry over to the MA's for kills scored in FSO? It wouldnt be huge... but it would be something.
Seems like changing the time is playing with fire. Do you really feel like playing "Let's make a deal" with your player base?

I found the original time a little late when I lived in EST. Now that I'm in the UK, I'll be getting up at 3AM to fly FSO. Moving it an hour forward would help for sure.

I agree it's not broken.
Awarding MA perks would, IMO, be disasterous. With all the lame gameplay in the name of the almight p3rkz, if people knew they could earn MA perks without hurting their MA score, we would dilute the essence of what FSO is all about.
The best way to adverstise is word-of-mouth in all arenas. Players can chat on range or country channels; talk about FSO, how intense it can be, see if anyone is interested, arrange for them to fly as an invited guest a couple of times. They tell their friends, and so on, and so on...
Don't rely on CM's or squad CO's to do all the heavy lifting...

A couple of things, here.
Statistics cannot be made up out of thin air (i.e. "if the average attendance is xx, then we will lose xx number of players") It cannot be assumed that the voting trend will remain the same throughout the entire voting time. Using a number of 300 to extrapolate a future outcome when only 150 have voted is not accurate.
Voting "no" to supporting the change does not mean that those who voted "no" will not attend, it simply means that they are not supporting the change. Not supporting the change and not attending because of a change are entirely different things.
-
Anything that will help FSO grow is suggested. However, do not base whether or not the time switch will stay on next month's numbers. Next month will be PTO so we may see the numbers drop a hair or two. I'd give it two months.
-
I don't see the start time change as necessarily something to generate more numbers, but a means to better serve the majority of current players(if the poll shows a resounding majority prefers it). It would be be good if it allowed more players access to FSO, but I wouldn't think of that as the prime objective.
-

Hadn't thought of that. Good point.

Understood... I was simply giving an example based on previous FSO attendance in comparison to how many have voted so far. It was not intended to be accurate. The numbers could go either way by the time the voting is over. But you are correct sir.

Again... understood. Perhaps that would be a better poll to take then.

Remember this poll only represents the active people here on the forums. How many squaddies show up and ask "What are we doing tonight?"

That is what I was thinking :aok

It may also represent folks that do not participate at all, as well. Something to think about...

As I sit now and wait...fighting off sleep...hoping at least 15 of my mates are doing the same so that we meet our commitment numbers...if we were spinning wood now...I would have to up my commitment number...
Just saying.

I would prefer it to stay where its at. It won't make it impossible for me to make it, but it would make it harder. :airplane:

I got an answer for that. Tequila (ok sorry Im drunk) :devil

Move it forward an hour and itĺl pretty much be game over for me.

This is the point I have been trying to make... I would hate to see FSO turn its back on any of its existing players. We have a good, solid FSO base, with loyal players. That loyalty needs to run both ways.

Well, I'll count myself as a casualty.
I almost made it, but the thought of a 6 AM wake-up time to get to work on time this morning must have lulled me off to sleep.
Sorry, Boss :(

Looks like I missed this boat, and from what I hear the decision has been made.
Most of what I would have to say on the matter has been said.
Doing this does not guaranty better attendance, but it does almost guaranty that a percentage is not going to be able to attend, at least not as much. Such is the case with me.
FSO a couple of years ago was seeing 500+ for almost a year, and that was with the current start time it has had since TOD days. (Tour Of Duty)
Those numbers have not dropped because of the start time, just as they did not go up because of the start time.
From what I see changing is going to make 60% happier, But 40% may not be able to attend. Thing is, that 60% is already attending. 10pm ET is just "better" for them, but they have been doing 11pm for years, so they can do 11pm. so if they can do 11pm, why switch to 10? so we can make them more comfortable? So 60% is more comfortable, but 40% runs the risk of loosing the ability to attend at all?
How does that make sense?
This is not normally considered a "Family activity" (although some fathers and son's, mother and daughters do play) As a rule for most of us this is something we do as our "me" time on Friday night. and in a way isn't that better to be later in the evening? After kids are in bed? Most FSO players do not have to get up early on Sat morning. However quite a few work till 5-6-7 pm on a Friday night, finishing up work for the weekend.
So yes being as the majority of the American population is on the east coast, then 9 and 10 PM is much better, but on the west, 8-7-6-5pm (don't forget poor Hawaii) may not be.
So in the end is this going to make FSO numbers go up or down? In the long term, hard to say. My guess is after 2-3 years of 10pm ET, the numbers for FSO will probably be about the same, with a higher percentage of players being in the central and east time zones, and low percentage in mt, pacific, Alaska, and Hawaii.
-
It actually moved to 2230hrs.
Compromise
-
Compromise but you are still loosing several players who at best will make one frame out of three instead of all three AND most if the time will make none at all.
