these were from 1930 when the US felt like the UK had thrown us under a bus to stay top dog.

I'm glad manifest destiny fell out of favor.

What a load of manure. You can contingency plan all you like, but frankly we were in the middle of one of the
worst depressions in history and had no money for the military.
We still had guys using bicycles and broomsticks on training exercises in the 30s.
-
I assumed when I posted this that nobody will think that this is anymore than 'what if' planning. And war planners plan wars regardless of current international relations.
-
I'm willing to bet there are plans on "what if" scenarios for the US military if it ever has to invade Canada or Mehico. If not to conquer them at least to defend them. It is not too far fetched for Chavez to think of himself just as Hitler did, so South America could easily see itself spiral downward. Columbia and Panama would square off vs Chanez and his goose-steppers, then who knows where the rest of the countries would fall into place. If Mexico gets hammered and eventually gets its arse handed to it in some manner, that is when the US steps in full scale.
I doubt it would ever happen, but then again this is a "what if" scenario.
Canada??? Not sure who they would scuffle with, they'd be on the defensive vs China or Russia probably then the US would step in and help its little brother out. ;)
-
Not sure if Canada would need help, but weren't they having a little squabble with Denmark over some islands
over by Iceland?

UK drew up plans with America as the enemy as well...
The Washington treaty would put an end to the madness, very doubtful manifest destiny had anything to do with it.

I am all for liberating the UK from their tyrants and introducing democracy to them. Are the B52s warming up yet? Furball, put a red circle on the roof of your house so we know to to bomb there, mmmmmk?
-
Very real plans. We also had rough plans on how to handle Canada and Mexico. It is the nature of the US Military to consider all possible scenarios. This does not represent a conspircy theory exposed but instead sound military planning.

I would gladly put a red circle on my house.... I think the probability of it being hit are far less, if the Americans are actually aiming at it, than if they were aiming at something else ;) :D

Umm.. Ded.. That plan starts with a UK terrorist bombing your house and killing you thus firing up the US population. Problem is nobody would care enough to get up in arms about it. So they scrapped it.

I'd like to see the "what if" plan for New Guinea or Madagascar :D. Step one: Present Arms! Step two: Sit back and relax.

That'd be France... :bolt:

No, France will just send out their army of mimes. Distract our troops long enough for them to retreat. :bolt:

The French were surprisingly powerful back in the day. And by "back in the day", I mean the turn of the twentieth century and before. Those guys put up a huge fight in World War I, it's just that they didn't update their tactics and Germany won via blitzkrieg.

They still are powerful - Are they the only other nation that the US to run a nuclear powered aircraft carrier? They have modern aircraft, nuclear submarines and nuclear weapons. The French have been a powerful nation going back over 1,000 years.
-
At the end of the doco, it was on last night, they basically said that in history when one empire was in decline and one in accent wars occurred. The hand over between these empires passed well.
Let's hope it's as good next time. Then, in the doco, the camera pans to some Chinese and a Chinese city.
Let's hope so.

Hmmmm, can't we just claim that Gaddafi is hiding at the palace?

I get a kick out of the France jokes. Obviously, they have no idea. I bet Canada has plans on how to invade Alaska in case of Soviet/Russian trespass. I bet Australia has plans on what they will do if Malaysia ever gets out of control. I bet India has plans to combat China and Pakistan. I know the Russians and Chinese have plans on invading each other. I bet Germans have plans on invading Russia... oh wait...
There are all kind of contingent plans that have been written. It would be kind of neat to see them all. :)
-
I'd be rather insulted if there were no plans for invading the UK squirrelled away somewhere in the pentagon :D

I never said they weren't, but that is quite interesting to know!

Joke just went Fooooooossshhhhh over your head.

Please understand during the 1930's it was anyone best guess who america would side with. In those days we had open nazis campeigning in Ny and other states using our same banner of freedom of speech to push the nazi agenda.
They failed. :aok

I learn something new every day. Today it was something disturbing.
-
My guess would be that the plans left out the real target. The bombs were most likely intended for German, Japanese, and Russian militaries in UK territories. Most government excuses don't include the real reason for future plans. Remember the so called sea mining contract requests about 20 years.

As I recall the only French general to ever win a war was Joan de Arc, and she was then burned at the stake by her own people. Napoleon was a losing general with a bravado for damage control in the media, and a Corsican (not French) to boot... De Gaul is a pansy [EDIT: and a joke of an aircraft carier]... and I believe Charlemagne was a Norman.

a history lesson from someone who doesnt know normandy is in france. brilliant :aok

wil3ur, Joan of Arc was not the last French person to win a war, plus she was burned by the English, not her own people. As for the rest, whatever.
Statistically the French won more battles than they lost. So did Napoleon.

At the time Normandy was colonized by Viking Raiders (Norse...) thus the name Nor(Norse)mandy, and Nor(Norse)mans.

French jokes are so 2003.

Fixed above and by the way....The Duchy of Normandy was part of a treaty with the King of France to not whip his butt for trying to take back what the Vikings took from him. The Normans paid nominal homage to the crown of France but it was a completely different way of life there compared to the rest of France at that time.

So true.

They're still selling almost new French rifles on eBAY, never fired and only dropped once.
-
You can't sell rifles on ebay. Unless it's 1/6th scale.
