How many more 2011 Vipers do you think they're gonna sell now that they have that record?

You probably couldnt find one if you wanted one already. If I was rich I'd buy one. I'd cruise every Fri. And Sat. night looking for races, shades of '76, with Zepp and Floyd blareing on the sound system.
-
i'd still take a vette over the acr any day. vette= very nice daily driver, and a race car when you want it. viper= crappy ride, weekend car, and a race car when you want it.

CAP's right (did I say that), ask the guys who have both an ACR and a ZR1, if they had to keep only one to drive every day which one they would keep. Don't get me wrong though, I'd love to have an ACR, but from what I hear are not very daily streetable.

The Viper ACR is a race car all of the time that just happens to be barely street legal. Waaayyy quicker than the Vette because it isn't compromised for ride and comfort. You don't want to even consider a Viper ACR for daily use.... But, if all you want is to go fast, there's very little competition for it.

Heheh well none, since they aren't making any 2011 Vipers.
Tyrannis, how many Vipers do you own?
The ACR is a cool looking car. And mid 11's in the quarter is pretty darned quick for a car right off the production line.
I shopped Vipers once, I literally didn't fit in them. At 6'2" my head hit the roof, no matter how I slouched.
-
I kind of agree with James May when it comes to the Nurburgring. Great race track, but it's a little bit ridiculous that people are so obsessed with testing road cars there, sacrificing everything in the way of ride quality and comfort to go a few seconds faster and get some silly bragging rights is stupid.

i'd take an acr, if someone gave it to me. if i had to buy or build my own car.......it'll be a mustang(obviously) or a corvette. or a real camaro(67-69).
that being said, i got a friend that owns 2 vipers. one is an srt10 convertible, that's dyno'd to just over 1,000hp, and a coupe dyno'd to around 850hp. he likes em. he almost bought a ford gt, but couldn't get the guy to come down to the price he wanted........

yea......it's kind of a modern day version of the old ford thunderbolt galaxies.....

Yep, impressive car... if they could break the record with an actual car you could drive on the street comfortably, that wasn't a factory built race car shod with race-spec tires that will last probably 1500-2000 miles of street driving before they're corded.... then I'd care. But they can't. So I don't.
Just for shats and giggles I think GM should take a World Challenge GT spec Corvette over there, put headlights on it, and take the record forever. But that would be missing the point almost as badly as Dodge has. LOL.

didn't the cadillac cts set the record for sedans there, in normal trim?

So what's with the "eat your heart out Corvette" ?
You don't have a horse in the race.

Sorry bud, But mustangs bore me, and Corvettes are too subtle.
Ive always had my eyes on the Viper. Everyone has a fav ride, and ever since i drove his 98, ive been in love with it.

Michelin Pilot Sport Cups shaved to 4/32 tread depth and $700 each at a discount tire supplier like tire rack.
You can put that compound on an acrua integra that the engine specs as stock and do times within 2 seconds of a stock ZR1.
I predict someone will fit these same tires or a tire company will supply a yet softer compound and another car will take back the "record" within a few weeks.

Warning, OPINION follows: (say 'NO' all you like, it's *MY* opinion so saying 'NO' is futile .. really)
Viper is a nice lookin car . . way swoopy, looks awesome in red or blue.. especially with the stripes.
For me, major turn off is the sound .. like an extended burrito fart.
Now . . you can cam-heads 'em up an get a pretty good growl from 'em
. ..but it still misses the mark by a wide margin of what a similar cammed V8 sounds like.
What is interesting is that Dodge's viper doods originally designed/built it to compete directly with the Vette.
Then the suit-dweebs stepped in and said they could charge more for them, which they did.
Nowadays you *can* buy two brand new corvette's from Kerbecks for what a Viper costs here in Phx from a dealer and have change left over.
Cost effective? .. I think not.
(imagines buyin a 42k vette and *then* spending the viper difference on it)
Ya .. it would be fun :)

Corvettes are like ants, they're everywhere. Nice car....but <yawn> when ya see them.
Don't see many Vipers.....again just as always just my opinion....but the Vette being everywhere
is not an opinion....it's a fact. Go to a large Auction, Mecum, etc, The Vette is there in
large numbers being auctioned off.
The only Vettes that I truly love were the 53 (being the first) 63 & 67. Fantastic Vettes.
They as I said before are great cars.....70s vettes and 80s seem to me GM lost vision
on design and performance. Newer ones however can run with anything.
-
Supply and demand, Hajo, simple economics.
There are lots of Vettes because: 1) they rock, for the price, and 2) people want them, and they buy them.
There are very few Vipers about because: 1) they suck, for the price (comparitively speaking), and 2) very few people want them, therefore, they don't sell. Hence, Dodge killed the Viper cause they couldn't get rid of the ugly things.

i thought i was the only one that didn't like the sound of those things.
as i've said before, my buddy has two of em. he drives the 96 a lot. that one's seriously cammed, and at idle, sounds VERY nice. problem is, that as soon as he pulls away, and runs the gears, it's kinda like "BBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP PPPPPPP".
AND IT FRIGGIN HURTS MY EARS.

you see more vettes, than vipers, for the same reason you see more mustangs than camaros. they/re more popular. :aok
also.....you're right with the early vettes. i tend to like the 66 to 69's, then not a single one of them deserved the "corvette" title till thelate 90's, to current.

As a past owner of a C4 Corvette, a 1990 6-spd coupe from the '84-'96 generation, I have to repectfully disagree.
The Corvette was reborn in '84. Even though those cars didn't make the big hp numbers of today's cars, look at their performance relative to their competition: They SCHOOLED everything from Japan, Germany, England, and well, yes, FORD, for plenty of years. It took Nissan and Porsche years to catch up to the Corvette in performance in class, and the C4 Corvette was so successful in SCCA and IMSA racing that it got banished from the World Challenge Series after going UNDEFEATED for 2 straight years, got sent off to the Corvette Challenge to compete against itself for '88 and '89, then came back to World Challenge for the '90 season to kick so much BUTT that Porsche, Nissan, and Lotus cried until the Corvettes got several hundred pounds of lead added to slow them down. It was only after the C4 Corvette chassis had been around for almost 10 years before the other cars in its class had started to seriously contend with it.....
Think for a minute CAP, what kind of miserable POS was the Mustang in the late '80's and early '90's? And the C4 Corvette was bad???? LOLOLOLOL!!!
-
actually, short of the corvette, the mustang was the best american performance car out there from about 79 till 94...basically the era of the "fox" chassis. till then, the vette was the only american car to take it. that's when ford dropped the ball with the "sn95" chassis. they not only made it uglier, but they made it heavier, slower, and more expensive. not until 2005 did ford make any attempts at bringing the mustang back to something nice, even though they didn't give the 4.6 any noteworthy power.
that being said......i worked on and drove my boss's 94. it was a rough riding rattle trap, and not all that amazingly fast either. it was pretty though.
anyway.....just the opinion of a guy that likes pretty much anything that goes fast, without sounding like a swarm of angry bees.

It always reminded me of the sound my old 5cyl Audi made, times two.
