These may have been mentioned before, but I just found them. Very good and somewhat advanced articles on fighting. At least advanced for me. :)
Energy management: http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_011a.html (http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_011a.html)
Co-E chases: http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_015a.html (http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_015a.html)
Boom and zoom tactics: http://www.simhq.com/_air9/air_277d.html (http://www.simhq.com/_air9/air_277d.html)
They came from here (and there are more): http://www.simhq.com/_air/acc_library.html (http://www.simhq.com/_air/acc_library.html)

I suggest this book to you also "Fighter Combat: Tactics and Maneuvering" By Robert L. Shaw. It should be in everyones library that plays this game IMO.
-
I recommend you read books that were designed to teach real pilots.
Here are some examples:
No Guts No Glory by Major General Frederick C. "Boots" Blesse
Fighter Combat Tactics and Maneuvering By Robert L. Shaw (as Uptown recommended)
Aerodynamics for Naval Aviators by Hugh H. Hurt, Jr.
And watch Dogfights, all episodes.

Thats still the Reference! Own my one since years!

Meh... I've been doing that stuff before it was put down anywhere, especially the level pursuit dip n dive.
Can't say I've read/studied pie-let stuff, altho' some of the pictures I've seen about ACM helped me give name to what I had been doing over the years.
Skills = anyone can obtain (sort of)
Talent = you either have it or don't ("10% of pie-lets get 90% of the kills.")
Talent + Skills = awesomesauce... ness
:aok
But by all means, I encourage the talentless to acquire skills. :neener:

I found some real good ones on biometric admiration subsequent to instructional encounters in aerial combat:
Proper techniques for ankle humpery: by Midway
Idol worship in an aerial setting: by Midway
Typing while flying Moves one can master in a day: by Midway
Thwarting enemys and friends alike through excessive communication on 200: by Midway
Man that Midway guy is well published.

:salute so your saying the vets on the program are making it up just to be heard? and tactics they used and just as made up? surly there is some merit in it. just curious on the thoughts here no rudness inteded.

also the e book in pursuit is a good read. sorry dont have the link. :salute

I agree it is a good read, similar to watching the "dogfights" episodes on History or Military channel
but I have never recommended them for BFM /ACM studies for getting better in Aces High or any other flight sim.....
the Author of "In Pursuit" has also another 1 or 2 other books he has published....... which are a little better but are drawn more from past publishings of other military documents and books, including the diagrams/drawings
some of the stuff which has been proven incorrect, has even been discussed, debated on these forums ( in other AH sub-forums )
as for the articles at the SimHQ Library , yes their are some great write-ups there by Andy and Leon and others.... ( look at the dates of the articles, they have been around for a good long time now )
edit: I had always heard that Shaw's Fighter Combat Tactics and Maneuvering was the bible of ACM........
I think that "No Guts No Glory" by Bleese is like the old testament while Robert Shaw's book is the new testament

This guy has some of the Very best explained combat maneuver films out there. :joystick:
It's WW1 stuff but combining what you read with these films will help you greatly.

A lot of the info has been proven inaccurate. Many of the "stories" must be taken with a grain of salt as there isn't a pilot in the world who isn't going to "tweak" his story a bit much like fishermen do. The shows main purpose is to entertain, so that is how it is built. Facts aren't THAT important.

I totally blame Rino for *this* thread (and new trend, apparently)...

All I have to say about this is, unless you find your *own* way, "you" will never get the recognition you're craving (and I don't mean the "look at me" in a retarded puppy way on 200 and here - you already have that. Doesn't bother me one whit, which is why I don't rag on you about it.)
The above is a free psychobabble message. I recently stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.
(OTOH, getting real gud at flyte simz allows for a lot of leeway in your persona. Only took SHawk about 8 years to find his inner shatner.)

The guns in the film speak louder and more convincingly than the words on 200 or this BBS. Be sure to grab popcorn and enjoy the movie. Mr "But by all means, I encourage the talentless to acquire skills", aka Mr "awesomesauce....ness". :aok :bolt:

Mid if any of those fights were remotely even I would say wtg.....but bragging about killing someone when you hold all the cards...is like saying you could kick someones butt..if three people held them down....
flying the spit and attacking someone who has much less E killing them is no great feat....yes your aim was good...and you flew the way you should have....not saying you did anything "wrong" in that sortie...except thinking it is something its not......
many many years ago I fought a vet 6 times in a row...he had all the ALT I kept coming back,(he was right out side my base in the same situation you were in..in this film) he killed me every time.....the difference is he did not say ANYTHING on 200 did not brag about it...or anything of the sort.....
flying the spit and thinking you are good is an oxymoron....the spit is the most forgiving plane in the set, and the one you fly is about the most forgiving....you can make mistake after mistake in one and not worry about it.
if you really want to be great at ACM which I think you can be...you need to fly every fighter.....get the heck out of the spit.....fly different planes man, choose one fly it for a month or a week then.....pick something else....... when you go through all the fighters and "know" them...then you will Know how to deal with every plane fly every plane, and not be stuck having to fly the spit to do good.
take it for what it is.....my .02$

Not bragging and not saying I'm any good yet, but Mr Shane's inuendo deserved a response... and Mr Awesomesauceness should have been able to handle any of those fights against the "talentless" working to aquire skills, imho.
:old: The talentless working to aquire skills have the right to defend themselves

I understand your point of view, get out of the spit, learn to fly without an advantage, and no need to mention successes, but my point here is more directed at the one who talks big (Mr Awesomesauceness) and smacktalks on 200 and the BBS more than most, aka (Mr. "encourage the talentless to aquire skills").
:)
Oh, and Shane.... might I suggest the music of Jefferson Starship's "Shane, Shane, Shane" (err Jane Jane Jane) as background theme to the movie? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PwG69620WA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PwG69620WA) :aok :D

I disagree. If you watch it just because you have nothing better to do that you wont get anything but entertainment out of it, but it you analyze everything carefully you'll learn.

What did I do? All I did was make a simple troll comment and now I'm blamed for the Midway/Bruv romance.
Geez it was just a joke.....
