Ehh.
I was really looking forward to it. Its like the cast suddenly got alot dumber. Getting a little too soap opera and alot less trigger time.
-
BANG BANG! Attracts em
And there is only so much ammo.
Only thing I dont understand is why they insist on driving the same old vehicles.
I'd have traded that camper that keeps breaking down in on a brand new one long ago.
-
Ya theres so much of the "WTF are they doing?!" always happening. Hey lets crawl under the cars and hide rather than run back on top of camper and shoot em. I hope it gets better.
-
:lol hollywood writers...grade school kids have more imagination, maybe they should bring some kids in to write for the show. probably see the biggest badest modified humvees and a lot of head exploding action.
-
The Walking Dead is based on the comic book series of the same name, so the whole story was pretty much laid down from the start. There's also a six-part webisode series that was released on October 3rd detailing the events just when the outbreak began.

I was very disappointed in that 90 minute start up. I could see the idea of hiding but then again in the first season they made a big deal about the zombies being able to SMELL live people and hunt that way. Kind of inconsistent. The whole work up to the traffic blocked road was rather more than predictable. The only question was going to be how long before they got ambushed or discovered. In my opinion rather sooner than later with the rednecks stupid open pipe motorcycle. If zombies are attracted to loud sound, why would you drive an open pipe bike WITH APEHANGERS?!?!?!
The little girl running away, c'mon that was over done. She ran, they find her and get moving on the rest of the story. Don't drag that out to an hour and not come up with her. If they could "track her" at the beginning of the trail it should have gotten easier if she were panicked and running. :huh
That last scene with the deer. Bovine excrement. If you need a sub plot for getting the kid shot fine but save the dances with wolves panoramic crap for soap operas. The idea of a kid walking up to a deer in woods populated by walkers is absurd.
The subplot with the wife and her now ex boyfriend, sheesh. How much "days of our lives" can they think of to put in the show? :headscratch: It's about survival in a world of zombies not a soap opera!! :bhead
I know there was a bit deal made about the publicist getting canned. Frankly I think they should have canned some of the script writers instead.

I would like to know why the sherrif guy didn't try to start the M1 Abrams tank he was hiding in during the first episode? I mean c'mon! Think of the zombie road pizza you could make with a tank. Also... Whatever happened to the helicopter he saw in the first episode? Did the writers just forget about that?
And the big one that I don't get...
If the zombies only purpose is to find and eat live flesh... And when they do take something down, like the horse or the deer or people, they shred and eat the thing... Why are there so many zombies running around with all of their body parts? Wouldn't they have been nearly completely eaten when they were first killed?
And what about the dead guy on the highway that had the bundle of axes knives machetes etc that the kid found... What killed him? He was just sitting there in his vehicle dead. He wasn't eaten. If he had been bitten, wouldn't he have turned into a zombie and joined the "herd"?
And if the zombie sickness is a virus like thing that is spread by zombie fluids getting into the body, why are the characters so calm about getting zombie blood and guts all over them? Don't you think that you'd be freaking out trying to wash all the blood and guts off of yourself?
I think it's great that AMC put the show on the air. It's refreshing to see a show that took some balls to put on the air like this one. I just wish the writers would spend a little more time and effort.
-
I thought it was good, very suspenseful. However I can feel how someone would see how it was a dead end. It is the season premiere so I would think that they would leave a lot of questions unanswered.
Things that don't make sense to me is what ever happened to Mearl's brother in Atlanta, and what happened of the black guy they met at the beginning of season one. Are they just going to leave them there?
I was hoping that this affair would stop right when the sheriff got back in town, but evidently not. Still hoping that it will not end up like a drama instead of a shoot em up zombie movie.
We will see where it goes from here.
-
Walken dead :lol
Oh the horror
-
the minute they threw sex into the show it was doomed. that kind of crap belongs on shows like the tudors and army wives, not in an apocalyptic zombie movie.
-

I take it that you havent read the comics.
Merle was the brother left on the rooftop, Daryl is the brother in the group. Both characters are unique to the show. Although there are rumors that Merle will return as a villian from the comics that goes by "The Govenror".
The black guy from the very first episode is Morgan, the guy that rick tries to contact on the walkie-talkie. He is in the comics, and like the show he stays behind with his son. He turns up again after about a year has passed.

I've got bad news for you, it is a drama. Remember that this story is about the characters not the zombies. In fact "walking dead" refers to the survivors, not the zombies. The characters are what makes this story so great.
-

Actually hiding made sense.
Like i said "bang bang" attracts em Alot were there in the immediate area (over 150 according to the talk show afterwards) and who knows how many more it might have brought had they started shooting or how much ammo they have left.
-

Did you know that during times of war the birth rate tends to go up.
Sex makes perfect sense as instincts take over for survival of the species.
Given the circumstances. Im surprised there isnt more of it

On zombies smelling. It was explained after the show that the zombies smelling only differentiates to them live people from dead zombies. Which is why they dont attack and eat each other. They dont actively use sense of smell to hunt.
On the tank. Maybe he doesnt know how to drive a tank. I know I dont. Also. considering the circumstances he may not have event thought about it.
I've thought about all the dead people in cars too.. couple possibilities. Trapped in their cars with walkers all around they died of exposure/dehydration.
Some flaw in the virus or possibly some antibody in their bodies prevented the virus from turning them and just killed them out right.
Why walkers arent just eaten.
Im guessing the ones that got eaten were swarmed or died on the spot preventing escape. If you get bitten by something. Are you going to just stand there or try to get away? The walkers are the ones that got away Also could be liek sharks. Bite on instinct and only actually feed when hungry.
The blood/body fluid question is a good question
But remember its a story. In reality this could never happen. Our military is just too efficient at killing. And rednecks would just turn it into a trophy sport. ;)
-

gotta repopulate the planet somehow.

Thanks Drediock, I resemble that remark, about rednecks turning it into a trophy sport. Didn't the Mayans say something about the world ending something in the near future? Bring on the Zombies  :airplane: :D

did you know the show isn't a reality series? :neener: a television series can be successful without it. it's only the people who sit around in the dark with a box of tissue or a sock that want to see sex scenes, and they don't care if it's soft core or hard core, they aren't really interested in the rest of the show. of course as crappy as the writing and the plot is, sex could be the only thing that keeps it on the air.

With all the dead soldiers back at the CDC, ammo should be the least of their problems. With all the cars and fuel on the highway that should not be a problem. That their lookout, the old dude can let a mob of zombies get within 200ft of them when on the highway where vis looked to be close to a mile..thats a problem.
Its shortcut writing. Its going to have to do a little more with the storyline than to pop a few dead melons to keep me interested.

Exactly! Why didn't they grab the Ma Dueces off of the tanks at least? Don't need to be quiet if you can mow down the whole zombie herd!

Errr is the 'eating' flesh' part of the zombie behaviour, I thought they bit to infect (ie the virus driving things).

They were definitely eating the horse in episode 1.
-
After they did the post mortem on the dude in the woods, and seeing hus black guts, I wondered do their organs even work to digest stuff? One would think if you waited out the problem in a few months of them wandering unsheltered in the elements they'd eventually breakdown and the problem would be over.

Yeah that is one of the contradictions there. The zombies die then after death are re animated by the virus that killed them but the body is still dead. WTH?? It seems that the virus would be just something to reduce upper brain function and leave the rest of the body alive to process and maintain "life". In this case they are still dead the body deteriorating but still feeding? It doesn't make sense in that context. If they had gone with the old eating brains plot it would be more like the classic zombie story.
To me it seems the folks should be heading up North. Get into cold country where the zombies freeze.
-

Or even go to the tropic zones where it's hot and humid and the zombies will rot faster! They can't bite you if they can't catch you because their arms and legs have fallen off!

I believe that is basic human instincts taking over. Even tho your body is dead, the virus controls your body. and it controls your body through your mind. Therefore the virus keeps your mind alive. tho barely. The eating of flesh is most likely the brain going into a primal state due to the virus. Eat,Sleep, Reproduce. Zombies do not require sleep, due to the body being dead. and the virus controlling it. Zombies cannot reproduce because..well, they are dead. The last thing instinct CAN do however, is eat. The virus merely turns us into the animals we once were before we evolved. except now we're undead.
-
All this zombie analysis makes we wonder, has anyone here read World War Z?

you're talking as if zombies actually exist...repeat the following until it sinks in - "zombies are like the easter bunny, they don't exist"
someone turn the lights back on, tyrannis is getting delusional...

did i say zombies were real? no i did not. But who's to say they didn't add a bit of realism into their zombies when making them? isent the basic instinct of the human mind to eat, sleep, and reproduce?
Now, if you wanted your zombies to look BELIEVABLE, wouldn't you want an explanation as to why they do what they do? It just adds to them. the basic analogy of the "zombie".
Rob Zombie had his zombies following instinct at the beginning, but as they continued their existence as zombies, their minds began to slowly regain its memory. Which caused the zombies to mindlessly go about their jobs as if they were normal people. One zombie was even intelligent enough to learn how to use a gun.
Another zombie saved a human girl from being eaten, because he had a crush on her while he was still human. His mind still remembered her.
Dead nations zombies followed the instinct pattern aswell, except they had it where Zombie organs did not function. and because of this, if a zombie continued to eat, it would grow bloated, and overweight, eventually imploding.
you didnt think before you posted gyrene, even tho they are not physically real, does not mean they don't have a reason behind their motives. Characters in video games are not real, yet they have reasons for what they do on the game, can zombies not have a reason for their actions aswell?
And before you say that a zombie virus is impossable....

it's a make believe virus that does not and has not existed in human history. you should have read that national geographic article better, it's not about reanimating dead humans, the conjecture is that a mutated rabies virus combined with a flu virus could produce a highly infectious airborne "rage virus" that would eventually lead to death. just like in the movie 28 days later.
virus merely turns us into the animals we once were before we evolved. except now we're undead.
who is the "we" you keep referring to? if you believe in the evolutionary theory, our ape like ancestors were herbivorous...not carnivores. so what stage of evolution would a make believe virus put the human brain in?
enlighten me einstein, how does something that is expanding from the inside out implode?
when dealing with something that is imaginary, what rules or guidelines define "believable behavior"?

I thought the premier was intense. Really enjoyed it. It's always been a bit soapish, hince dvr fastforward.
Sure left quite a few hooks for the next episode. Which btw I haven't seen yet.

Might be right. Either that or the guilt is going to eat away at him until he ends up doing some heroic self sacrifice thing to redeem himself.
I like the show, despite the gaps in logic previously discussed.
-

I believe you're on to something. I think the deer scene and the cdc part from last season were dumb. I'm still watching though.

I think he is gonna end up trying to kill Rick.....
A distinct possibilty.
I can see him making a try when she turns out to be pregnant with his love child, she catches and stops him. Then he realizes what a total tool he has been and does the self sacrifice thing.
Something along those lines.

At least "TV Otis" was useful versus "Comic Otis" whos death was meerly discovering that Otis had become "Zombie Otis".

Exactly. There was no possible way that both of them were going to make it. It was either Shane or Otis, and Shane had the best chance of making it back to Hershel's farm.

Zombies don't exist...yet. Also, there is no physical proof that the Easter bunny does not or did not exist; a dearth of evidence does not dis-prove anything. Next you'll tell me that dust-bunnies do not reproduce under the refrigerator and couch or have daily migrations that traipse through areas that I just swept!
-

Otis violated a major hunter safety rule as well. Would have been charged with something in a normal situation.
-
There aint gonna be enuff of Ol Otis left to drag himself as a zombie. I think even with a bum leg he shoulda said to Otis give me the stuff, lets make a run for it. He still would have outrun him and the zombies would have overtaken Otis. As for the drama bit, Im thinking that chick was doin Shane before the outbreak.
-
I didn't watch last night's show. I am severely disappointed in this years episodes. Frankly it's turned into "as the world turns", with a couple zombies thrown in maybe for 5 minutes. I have such an antipathy for soap operas I am not sure I'll watch another episode. The wife likes it though, go figure. :huh
I'm surprised otis made it through the run to the house and being chased by zombies last week. I thought he would have had a heart attack during those two times. Kinda reminded me of michael moore, only smarter.

What I didn't understand was why he shot him in the leg. If he had shot him in the head the zombies would have still stopped to eat him, right? So even if he felt it was necessary, he was pretty cold about it.

Wow they really have made a pretty gory soap opera there out of a perfectly good zombie show

The ads suck too. 7 minutes of show, 5 minutes of ads.
The dude in the well was pretty cool, but Id just have popped him and sealed it up. Foolish drama written in by putting the kid down the well.
-
Watched true blood til the end of season 5. 50 minutes of look at me look at me im a vampire then 10 minutes of ooomf time to kill something. This is getting to be almost as bad. Where do you find the comic? I'd rather read that now hahaha.

Don't expect it to be any less dramatic than the show. This story is about the survivors, not killing zombies.
-

Yep now we know where the writers from the last soap opera that was canceled went to work. Instead of all my children, pure soap, we have all my children with a couple zombies tossed in once an hour.
I wonder how long they will stretch out the lost little girl before they either find her alive or pop her melon?
The old veterinarian's "rules" are pretty silly given his profession, home lifestyle and the neighbors are all zombies. They are holding a rather obvious shoe with his character and are stretching out when they drop it. The old guy is "up to something" and it won't be good. I expect the daughter who jumped the scavenger kids bones will be joining the group when that shoe drops and the group is forced to move on. Not psychic, just looking at some pretty predictable script probabilities.
-
Agree with Mav and James this show is loosing me, total soap opera and everything is waaaaaay overacted. At least we don't have to listen to Rick's lame monologues at the beginning anymore.
How was Hell on Wheels? Got home after the first showing was over, and passed out before the replay aired.

Hell on wheels is a hash about evil railroad baron, crooked politicians, revenge for the rape / killing of a wife. Chain gang railroad workers vs evil imperialistic RR baron with pissed off indians raiding the crews thrown in to even it all up. Think of every badly acted super evil western and you have this new show. Oh and they are not PC. They used the "N" word more than once, on purpose. They managed to get an amazing number of cliche western threads all wrapped around the spinning axle of the train.
-
Hell On Wheels was pretty good IMO, much more action than walking dead
-

I didn't care for it much. They tried to start too many story threads all in a one hour pilot. I would have preferred they spent a little more time introducing the main character, and maybe the RR Baron. Cramming it all in like they did made it rather unsatisfying. They're going to have to do a lot of "flash back" backfilling in future episodes if they expect anyone to give a rats butt about any of the characters.
I will probably give it a couple episodes before I give up on it.

I will probably give it a couple episodes before I give up on it.
Yeah i can agree there. It was a little confusing to keep up with everything. At least there wasnt any "hey lets go do it in a looted pharmacy in the middle of a zombie infested town" I wish they would have both gotten eaten. Getting eaten while having sex in a zombie infested town is an automatic Darwin Award winner in my book.

How can an entire episode of a 'zombie tv series' have only 1 zombie in it?
-

Well, if it was wall to wall high speed high anxiety zombie killing action, the show would die an early death. Constant gore would only attract a particular subset of viewers.

I had a feeling that Herschel was up to something weird. Now the question is, did he send them to the well with the walker in it on purpose trying to infect them?
-
Seriously, even if he was a zombie, who fires a gun with sun glare in the scope, and 4 people in between yourself and the target? That girl should have her trigger finger cut off. :bhead

Why doesn't anyone have or find an assault rifle?
What they need is...

Thats what I was thinking. Remember when they first came to his house and him and Rick had the conversation about "maybe there's a cure." and Herschel so strongly believed there will be a cure? Well my bet is that he is keeping all his family and friends that got infected for when the cure comes around he can turn them back. I bet something bad happens before anything good though.

what about going for a pee and a pregnancy test in the middle of a field at night?

Runner up

Shane is the only realistic one in the bunch. The way they have lights on at night...there are other monsters out there than the zombies. Gangs of survivors looking for supplies, and sweet young things.

If it follows the comic, they're going to a prison next.

I doubt that the prison will be next. That story arc would take a whole season by itself. That being said, I dont see them staying at Hershal's farm beyond the next two episodes.

HA! During the shows first season I mentioned ot my daughter that I wondered how long it would take before someone decided a zombie would make a good pet.
LMAO now this season a guy has a whole kennel of em.
Though Im going to guess he too is working for some sort of cure and is more then just a vet
-
Seems like he made a very difficult choice in a very bad situation. He made the right call in my opinion.
]
Actually I think they both made bad calls. Before the left hte building when they were both on the ledge. I dont understand why they didnt use the butts of their rifles to just club the walkers to death instead of wasting all their ammo.

Killin' Zombies makes the blonde horny.
Almost gettin' killed makes the brunette horny.
Whole lott'a boning goin' on.
Oh, and they didn't find the girl yet either.
This episode was a snoozer In my opinion. Sure wish I had a good book to read.

Looks like this episode was setting things up for the big mid-season finale next week when they all find out about Herschel's zombie collection in the barn.

The sub plots are sure dragging down the show. I really don't care for all of the emotional angst the female writers are dumping in the show. The confrontation with the wife over her pregnancy and her fling with Shane didn't track well at all. :huh
At least they explained WHY Hershal has the zombies in the barn. One is his wife and the other a son (stepson?) so he is obviously hoping that there will be a "cure" found. It is a case of losing his objectivity and failing to recognise that the walkers are no longer the folks they used to be and cannot ever come back. Hell, the decomposition should have made that a no brainer. Then again the fact that zombies are decomposing and still need to "feed" is somewhat contradictory in itself anyhow.

I'm curious to see how they resolve the Hershal issue. I could see the zombies getting out of the barn and eating him... But there weren't very many of them, so if that happened, the group could just kill them all and then take over the farm.
So, either the group is going to leave the farm with Hershal still in place. Maybe with Maggie joining the group. Or, something dramatic will have to happen to make the farm no longer a viable place to stay.
-
Do pitbulls like zombies? :)
Our dog thread got locked due to the film I imagine.
-
Just find the damn girl, and kill more zombies. All this talking is getting a lil absurd.... :furious

If Maggie wants she can head my way, I'll take good care of her... :D

My girlfriend really likes this series but I haven't gotten into it. Although the idea of a virus mutating and causing people to become rabid "zombies" is much more plausible, I prefer the old school slow, shuffling "walking dead" zombies with missing and/or decaying body parts. Never have cared much about horror movies, but in the event of a zombie apocolypse you will never find me far from my 10 ga. Browning, .270 Weatherby Magnum and Marlin .444 Magnum. Told my dad we need an AR-15 .223 for wild hogs and to prepare for this so hopefully that will take!

Guns are fine as long as you have ammo, but what happens when you run out?
They need to start looking for some high quality swords and battle axes. Don't have to worry about reloading.

spears and lances would make great zombie fighting weapons.

Yep you and your one spear vs 2, 5, 10, or 20+ zombies. Yup I can see how that would work out well, stick one, get it stuck and then what. Ya better change yer name to lunch because that's what you'd be. :huh

How else are you to propagate the show, then?
Honestly, and hour of killing zombies week after week would bore me to death. I really don't mind the little side plots, especially the one's that explore the "what if" important questions of a post-zombie apocalypse world.
Food will be scarce.
Defensible shelter would be in demand.
The list of folks one could trust would be short, indeed.
Medical conditions will present themselves and will need to be addressed, including pregnancy.
Not everyone will have the same views on the morality of dispatching the zombies.
People are going to desperately defend what resources they have and will not be too willing to share.
When the trappings and conveniences of the modern world is stripped away, so will the veneer of civility with regard to humans start to crack and peel away, revealing everyone's true nature.
Most any society is roughly 7 meals away from anarchy.
These are the types of things not explored in a 2-hour George Romero flick (even though I love his work) and I am not embarrassed to admit that this is what keeps me interested. It dives into the normal questions not answered in your typical zombie horror flick.

I agree 100%. An hour of gore fest would be uninteresting after the first episode. The story has to be about the people and how they handle the situations that are thrust upon them.

For me, that it what makes it even better.
When a fictional television drama can invoke emotions that elicit a physical reaction by me before I can stop myself (excluding sporting events, of course), I am highly impressed.
When Andrea took that shot at Darryl Dixon, mistaking him for a walker and he dropped to the deck, I literally threw the remote at the TV calling her a stupid B%*ch and everything else I could think of before I realized I was actually doing it.
There aren't too many TV shows these days that can draw me in so deeply :aok

That's just great......if you have a choice. Think back on the show and see how many times they end up having to deal with a "herd". Saying you can deal with one at a time is just dandy as long as you only ever have to deal with one and only out in the open where you have space to use a 6' plus spear. I am hoping you remembered to put a cross bar on it as well other wise the walker will just walk up further onto the shaft and there you are, lunch, again.

a real Katana would make short work of those zombies :rock
but YA I agree they need to concentrate on the people and the situations they may happen upon....but damn a few zombie kills a show would be nice.....
I am glad though that the truth about her and Shane finally came out.

Ya me too. Between Shane's attitude lately and this thing between him and Lori, I suspect that we'll see a major blow out/melt down coming soon between him and Rick. It wouldn't surprise me if, eventually, Dale ends up being the guy to lay the smack down on Shane. Maybe, put one in his knee at a critical moment and leave Shane the same way Shane left Otis. Pure speculation on my part. I haven't read any of the comics and I'm intentionally avoiding them so as not to spoil anything that may or may not be coming.

Actually, the show has deviated a lot from the comics.
Shane would have been dead by now if the comics were followed.
Robert Kirkman is OK with this and says that he treats the two as completely separate entities. :aok

I haven't read the comics ether, but I saw a page someone posted somewhere.....
this is the first TV show in a long time, that has me watching every week.

I always wondered how movies like Con Air, The Day After Tomorrow, Face/Off, and all the other super explosion movies with hunky guys and explosions made so much money. I thought, no way do the American people actually find entertainment from crap like this. I thought, don't people just want to to sit back and relax, be told a good story with good characters and the occasional action to keep the story moving along? Certainly they wouldn't actually crave those over done Hollywood super action movies, it must just be a disconnect between Hollywood and the American public.
But after reading the complaints in this thread, "it moves too slow," "it's boring and there isn't enough guns," proves to me I guess I was wrong.
So, now that I have come to this conclusion, I am now going to gather a bunch of big musclely men and film them walking slow motion in front of super big gasoline explosions while unloading infinite magazines of ammunition into their foes. I'll be a freaking billionaire :aok
IVN's comment however, I completely understand coming from him :D

I have been watching this show too from the beginning.
I agree with most posts in here about the writers being total idiots.
I thought it would be about surviving an apocalyptic world. It could be a zombies, a virus, an asteroid...etc...the premise started off great.
But some of the characters are total wussies. I cant stand Ricks wife...what a weak character....by god I know my wife wouldn't be crying about we should all die cause its not worth living....crap like that.
Right now its nothing more than a soap Oprah with randomly injected zombies.
Reallly....in the drug store a zombie just pops out...and Shane and the chick go to the neighborhood and suddenly an army of zombies show up.
The writers are going to ruin a good premise about survival by cowering to the drama queens who want "substance"...
I'm interested is seeing a story line of HOW the survive not about weaklings who cant handle it.
-
I was very disappointed in that 90 minute start up.
Right on brother...I totally agree :aok

I have seen every episode

But you also have to let them close.
With a gun you have to let them get close too. or be a damn good shot while under pressure. I'd be willing to bet that 85% of the people here could'nt get a good kill headshot on someone from even 10 feet away at a target standing still let alone while under the pressure of the circumstances of the entire world being turned upside down and the pressure of several of them all coming to try to eat you.
That part where the blond at first couldnt hit the moving target. Then again couldnt hit the walkers until she had that "get it " moment was IMO pretty accurate as to how most people would do who arent specifically trained to kill. And most people arent. And those that are are typically trained to aim at center mass. the which is the center of about a 2 Ft wide target and not the center of an area thats only about 9 inches wide and about 4-5 inches high. or about the size of a coke can laying sideways. Remember. Its not just a head shot but it has to hit the brain
We Even those with guns all like to think we would be the brave cool calm and collective in a warlike or emergency situation where we might actually have to use a weapon and not just point it or show it.
Actually having to do it while under pressure is an entire different ballgame.
-

Entirely understandable conflict given the circumstances. Forget whatever beleif system you may have in place. All that goes out the window.
On one hand every instinct would be to reproduce. Continuation of the species and all that.
On the other hand a baby at this point would be a severe burden and hadicap to yourself and the group. when you need to be quiet cause walkers are nearby. As any parent can tell you. You cant just tell a baby to STFU and expect it to listen. Secondly. Would you really want to raise a child in that kind of world?

Dissagree. Look around you. Life IS a soap opera. There are all sorts of people that do all sorts of things every day that either make no sense . Or are just plain stupid. And thats without the pressures of a post apocolyptic world.
In such an event. People arent always going to be thinking clearly. Its easy to sit here and think clearly with no pressure on us in a normal world.
Not so much when it all comes apart. Most of your family and everyone you knew and loved is gone or are walkers themselves.
You being hunted by walkers always having to be alert and on the lookout even when sleeping. Securing food water and safe shelter.
Sounds easier then it actually would be. All that would wear on you.
You can use Katrina as an example. In N.O. people were looting stores for TVs. in spite of the fact they had no power and most of their homes were flooded out.
And your average person when under duress is or becomes a wuss in my experience. Or simply do things that make no sense.
Drug store zombie. why not? because he wasnt there the last time?
Zombies suddenly showing up. They are attracted to sound. It isnt possible they noticed the car comming in to the neighborhood.
Think back after 9/11 how quiet it was with no aircraft flying. thats the one thing that struck me during that time is how much noise they made I'd never noticed before untill they werent there.
Now imagine a world where there are 99.9% less cars and trucks driving around or other machines making noise. A single car is going ot sound loud and out of place by comparison.
We live in a noisy world. Much of it man made. Remove all that noise and a car is going to be noticable.
Sit there right now and just listen. What do you hear? TV Fans on the computer, etc. Go and turn everything inthe house off and you will be amazed at the difference

Drugstore zombie, interesting term but hard to work in to everyday conversation.

I dunno... Have you ever seen the collection of old folks that can usually be found sitting waiting at the local Wal Mart Pharmacy... Drug store zombie might be a perfect name for some of them.

Great episode. That ending nearly brought a tear to my eye.

The "guns are bad" theme has got old.

sad about the little girl.

sad about the little girl.
Now the question. How she got in there.
Im betting that in one of the flashback moments they are going ot show her running away and looking for someplace safe to sleep for the night. Coming across the barn locked from the outside she probably figured it safe to be inside if she could find a way in at which point she finds a the second story window way in like Glen did when he wanted to get it on with the farmers daughter.
She climbs in the window and down where she is bitten not realizing that a couple hundred yards away was safety.

I'm wondering if that were the case, would there have been enough left to reanimate or would they have torn her to shreds in the enclosed space of the barn?
It looks like she only had a bite on the neck. I could have missed something, though. I was pretty worn out, last night.

WHAT!?

I think Herschel may have "seen the light" so to speak, between the conversation with his daughter and Shane's demonstration, he may have had a change of heart. I think the only reason behind the "no guns" rule was to prevent what just happened with the barn. I think he may have realized when Shane shot the one he was holding a few times in the chest and it just kept coming. Either he did have a change of heart, or he is just going to get worse, I'm hoping for the former.
I see a major potential problem. What if Herschel knew the little girl was in the barn, and didn't say anything?
I am glad someone finally had the balls to put an end to the whole "Zombie zoo" thing though. GO SHANE!!

The "zoo" was a little above and beyond being compassionate and more that a bit creepy.
It was only a matter of time before someone took care of it. :rock
The whole getting stuck in a swamp concept has inspired me, though. I believe that I will start construction on a moat this coming weekend :aok

I believe that I will start construction on a moat this coming weekend :aok
Nah, don't need a moat. They have already demonstrated that zombies can't climb. I think a nice wall would be effective enough.
I suspect that Hershel is going to go the rest of the way around the bend now. I don't know how it will happen, but I expect Hershel to do something really really crazy now and end up as zombie food or perhaps show up as a walker himself.
I also expect Maggie and maybe the young guy to join the group. Maybe even Otis' wife will join the group, which will add fuel for conflict when what Shane did to Otis comes more into the light.
I figure they will keep several of the new characters in the story for awhile, simply so they have plenty of people to get eaten during future zombie attacks.
Also, from a production stand point, keeping a steady flow of new characters that they can build up if they want to will help to keep the actors in check when contracts are negotiated. The Walking Dead comic books are known for the authors willingness to kill off pretty much any character. The show producers just need to keep that alive so the actors don't get comfortable enough to start asking for huge amounts of money.

No new episodes until February :cry
Here is a little light on the spoiler. Absent any network shake ups on the line ups, expect the new episode to be on Feb 16. That little tid bit was brought out on the talk show Talking Dead. Nice to see some of the folks responsible for the show there explaining where the scenes came from and some "back story".

I don't know about anyone else, but I am personally dissapointed with this season so far. Sure, Andrea was a naughty girl as well as Maggie, but it needs more gore in it. The 'mid-season' thing was little silly. As for the espiodes itself (last night one). I almost end up turning it off but I am glad I didn't because of the end. I had feeling that Sophia was either dead, or one of the walking dead in the barn. Hershel is probably going to end up, as someone else pointed out, either as a walker himself or just do something off the wall, or both. Something probably horrible is going to happen to Shane. My personal opinion that either Lori or Rick will have to end up putting him down for good.

dont think so. If you watched "Talking Dead" after the second running of the show they show a preview of Herschal telling them all to leave

Hard to say when you see its your family and friends. Rational doesnt always have a role.
You may know in your heart they are dead. but you see your wife, your kids up and moving around...Hard to say what emotions may take place.
Remember the black guy from season 1 who couldnt bring himself to shoot his wife even though he knew he should.
Hard to say what you would do when its your own family.

Shane is the only character that makes any sense. Me my wife were cheering when he did what he did at the barn. When the girl walked out we were both shocked. So much was happening at that moment it was a total surprise. Very well done. Even after all these episodes of saying to myself "Shes probably dead move on!" it was sad to see.

Herschal will either off himself out of greif. Or Shane is gonna kill him.
Shane at some point either has to die or be told to leave the group. He's just become too unstable.
The baby (now unborn) Im betting becomes an h'orderve at some point.
At some point they really need to find a better way to kill walkers. That ammo is only gonna last so long. and at some point they are going to come across other survivors who are more concerned with self preservation then they are with social networking. and wont hesitate to kill other survivors for what they need.

IIRC, Shane was killed off fairly early in the comics. Perhaps by the second or third issue, even. I has been a while and although I enjoy the show, digging through my boxes of comics in the basement is not on the top of my list of priorities right now...

That last episode, (especially the last 10-15 mins) was some of the best television I've seen in a long time.
The way the screenwriters built up to showing us who was the last walker coming out of the barn was great.
It almost made up for the immense suckage of the previous episodes.
Almost.

What I meant by "Change of heart" and "saw the light" was concerning the treatment of the walkers only. Hes been telling them to move on since they got there and IMO is a smart call on his part. It sucks for the group, but in his situation, you cant be giving out handouts. He has his people to take care of, as does Rick, but theres only so much food and other basic essentials.

They are on a farm. They can grow enough food
Seemed to be feeding all those walkers just fine. The group would simlpy be trading one set of hungry mouths for another. Only this group can work to make the farm more productive.
then again. Maybe Herschel was thinking of strapping a team of them to a plow to help tend the fields when the gas ran out.
Might not be a bad idea. Taking lemons and making lemon aid so's to speak. Free but dangerous slave labor lol
Personally in light of that I'd want them to stay because they are a friendly alliance. Trained gunmen with the ability to train the rest of the group can certainly go a long way to keeping the area secure from walkers and evil doers
And god only knows what the next round of visitors may bring. As I mentioned before. At some point they are going to run into other survivors who may not be as interested in making nice nice as they are about self preservation and what they can get for themselves. One roving gang of those and Herschel and his small group would be easily overwhelmed.
Safety in numbers in this case.

Soon Branch, Soon :lol
I really didn't start watching this show until the 2nd season. I watched some of the first season that they had during a marathon, and watched the one where they went to the research facility. Boy they passed up a lot of AR's and even .50 cals out in the parking lot :headscratch: What would be more fun then an M2 shooting up zombies :aok :lol
:salute

They need to bait them to an old slaughterhouse and run em up to the kill floor.

If they dont get off that dang farm then Im done watching it. Enough with "Life down on the farm" already. Herschels an idiot for wasting all those yardbirds on zombies.

I'm pretty sure that their time on the farm is going to end quite soon.
Herschel is going around the bend... Won't be searching for the little girl anymore... I expect that they will be forced to move on in short order.

Ya, the chick that Glen has been "having relations" with will most likely go with them when they leave the farm. I wouldn't be surprised if the boy and Otis' wife go with them also. Not so much because they have much to add to the story, but mostly because the group needs a few more "red shirts"...

ya they do need more fodder :rofl
I hope they step it up a bit more with interaction with zombies the only seeing them once a show is lame.

INK, how does a prison full of zombies sound?
