Which version?  The -1 and -2 were basically failures, with the -3 variant having fixed most of the problems of the -1 and -2 variants.

We would more than likely get the variant that was most produced. :noid

I'd fly her anyways. :x

Years ago I met a vet who flews these during WW2. He proudly claimed to have drobbed a bomb on a Japanese carrier. I have no reason to doubt him. I can't remember if it was the Marianas Turkey Shoot or right after Leyte. In any case, the biggest take away was how they referred to the SB2C Helldiver. They called it the Son-a-B****, 2nd Class. what a hoot!

Anyway, +1

Oh no doubt but she does look pretty bulky mid-air.

Top speed 295? Throw in dive speed with great dive brakes I bet this pic can engage at over 400 mph with little problem. I would bet that once its dropped ords and is light with those 20mms I bet this bird will give a better accounting then Cobra in his A-20. I bet it turns better then the Dora at low speeds, maybe even outturns the 51. I think history notes that the Dauntless was effective but pretty risky. This bird far more able to handle itself. By the end of the war the latewar F4U-hogs could carry as much firepower and the jabo came to the Pacific.

In any case, I think at some point this bird is added.

No, the deck isn't stacked against the Japanese in late war setups enough yet.

Nice for him, I've always wanted to meet a WWII bomber pilot. I've met figther pilots, P-51s, P-47s, P-40s. Some pilots who flew a P-51 and P-47 and swore the P-47 was the best.

How ever I can understand why I've never met so many.

You never die alone in a bomber  :salute

On the Helldiver?  It was the planes regular wing mounted gun package.  If you're gonna just post to pad your post count, at least make your posts accurate.

Well, the Japanese faction already has two; if not three dive/torpedo bombers. The U.S. faction only has the SBD-5 and the TBM-3. Reason why I'd love to see the Helldiver being added is to go along with the Hellcat fighter. The Helldiver was also along with the Corsair, so with the Helldiver being the most recent of U.S. dive bombers; it should be added.

And the Japanese should be stuck with the D3A1 to use against the US in scenarios.  1943 SBD-5 and 1944 SB2C against the 1937 D3A1. Sounds very fair.

That is leaving aside the fact that the US fighters all act as very good adhoc dive bombers.

Another American bomber aircraft. That's about the last thing this game needs.

Personally, I'd like to see the TBD Devastator before the SB2C Helldiver.  Reason being, a more accurate Coral Sea/Midway Scenario.  And I would fly it in the MA's in a scout role.  But that's me. :)

I still say +1 for the Helldiver, but I hope it comes in a package deal.  TBD Devastator, D4Y Judy, B6N Jill and the SB2C Helldiver. :D

I'd just like to have a dive bomber that has a credible guns threat. I fly the SBD and Val, but you have to get your guns on and keep them on for a LONG time to kill an enemy aircraft. The Hispano 20mms in the Helldiver give you a chance to defend yourself.

Plus it was the most produced US dive bomber of the war.

About 15-years ago I met a WW2 vet who flew the SB2C, or "Son of a B****, 2nd Class" as he called it. He claimed to have dropped a bomb on a Japanese CV towards the end of the war. It wasn't clear during what battle, etc and I never did get his name or contact info to follow-up so I'm not sure if it was real. He seemed very sincere though and knew a great deal about Naval Aviation that matched my limited knowledge base.

I think the Helldiver could be a threat, much as Cobia pisses people off in the A-20. The Helldiver would need to start high, keep its speed up then selectively chop throttle, dive brakes, etc. And it has 2x20mm for anyone who will get dumb. Terminal dive speed well above 400 knots.

Add it to the game and I bet a few turn it into a nuisance bird with teeth. I also bet it climbs to alt much quicker then a storch, TBM, SBD or Val.

Look up the B7A 'Grace' for another late war CV attack bird with good performance and two 20mm cannons in the wings.  B7A never flew off of a carrier though, on account of the United States Navy graciously sinking all of the Imperial Japanese Navy carriers before it entered service.

The only time a SB2C would be a threat is if the fighter was stupid enough to go head to head with one.

It saw plenty of use and should be added to the "to have" queue. But I wouldn't put it at the top.
In any case, I'd probably take the SBD over SB2C for the coolness factor alone.
