Sooner then I would have liked to leave. Leaving because gameplay has gone way down IMO and I'm just plane tired of it. I may or may not be back...really all depends on what life has in store for me.

I see what you did there.
See ya in two weeks!
-
<S> JOACH1M, same for me. I've played 4 hours this month, I'll keep paying my Subscription until i return and hopefully the game will interest me again. people may wonder why i'm still paying if I'm not going to fly, lets just say i still believe in the game. game play is another issue.
-
See you tomorrow :)
BTW if you do manage to quit somehow come back to the forums and explain how you did it.
-
I suppose someone with 5,500+ posts needs to announce his departure vs just fading away into oblivion.
-
to manage to quit just dedicate yourself to skyrim
or buy il2 sturmovik: cliffs of dover

It is too bad. But, I understand the frustration.
Aces High could be so much dynamic and more "immersed" w/o having to lengthen the learning curve or add any more system requirements any further. But, the train keeps a rollin' as is.
-
Lol, gameplay is poor for you because you fly with too *cough* many Kameraden. If you can't have a fight without one, or two, or ninteen of your squadmates jumping in, of course you won't have much fun.
-
Been here since 2001, gameplay hasn't changed.

Think I have to agree with Shifty. Whenever I get the feeling the game has gone to pieces, it usually speaks to me playing too much or something else is bugging me. Take a break, enjoy the time, and if the desire to shoot cartoon airplanes comes back, the game will be here. If not, it isn't the end of the world by any means :)
-
Gameplay may not have changed (it's probably improved with so many "gamey" problems fixed), but once you've reached a certain point of frustration there's nothing you can do but take a break from the game. I reached that point at the end of last year, and took a good nine months off. So enjoy the break and come back if you feel like it.

last time i checked i watched yukkles there take 3 enemy vs himself one time because he thought it was fun to kill at least two of said 3

It's all fun untill, more and more keep piling in and untill they start to HO, when clearly Im already and a # disadvantage... :salute Bar.

thats coming from the dork that said hes leaving the game but spends 7 hours a day on the BBS.
BTW joach, your a cool guy, always a shame to have people like you leave.

Was a gibe at his squadron. Any KN member, and probably a fair number of Muppets understand.
And Skorpion, at least I actually played the game for 5 years.

I flew out to a "fight" the other night. By the time I got there there was one friendly left. I engaged a Spit and tired to hold onto some alt. The friendly died and there were three more below me and the Spit. By the time I died it was me on about a dozen or so. Not another friendly within a sector.
Oh well, I flew there. I did get to fight and I got to rib the enemy about how many dozen it takes to kill one guy.
On the other hand there were no enemy aircraft anywhere near the Vbase they were all heading to. I literally changed the course of the battle on my own and don't really feel too bad about letting them all pile on if that's all it takes to stop them in their tracks.

Well I hope you will come back. :salute
As for gameplay, the current map [trinity?] is terrible for game play because those mountains aresuch an obstruction to getting to enemy, that they force long climbouts to a few focal points of action. A week of this map will make anyone want to quit. Just take a break and you'll come back to it. :aok
I had no idea you were in st.Clair Shores. Pm me, I'll buy you a retirement beer. :salute

Jo, let me give you a little advise. Take it or leave it.
Your frustration comes from your own over inflated sense of ability. You think to yourself that you are so much better than those who gang you and it annoys you that they slay you with inferior tactics and skills. The essence of your mistake here is in thinking you are good even when you let yourself get into that situation. A good fighter pilot doesn't get in that situation. You are at the transitional stage between learning enough basic skills to feel 'better' than the average brawler but not having learnt enough savvy to know when and where to go brawling. You can either quit, or you can evolve and progress to a far more powerful position, that of a skilled brawler who knows when, where and how to pick his fights. It is not the dog-piler's fault that you are in his gunsite. I hope you may reconsider.

I feel that if this is a person's primary hobby, it's going to lead to frustration.

Whatever happen to having fun? If you get so frustrated over a video game then its time to take a break. Anytime I see there isn't a fight
going on or a flat out horde, I simply log off and play War in the Pacific Admirals Edition.
/If anyone thinks Aces High is frustrating, I suggest never playing WITP:AE

For those that get frustrated by ganging, lame gameplay and what-not and want to quit...shake things up a bit.
* Pick a new plane to fly.
* Pick a different arena - yes, they are less populated, but if you're complaining about getting ganged...
* Try your hand with the film viewer and making movies.
* Try your hand at making terrains - you can start with a small one and upload it into a custom arena.
* Host a custom arena and let people know when it'll be active - see how much fun you can have with 16 people that actually want to fight.
-
You can check out anytime you like, but you may never leave... :aok
-
Jo I hope you will re consider as I will miss shooting you down again and again in the ma and pwning you in the da :D :D
Seriously though you are probably at a level where people pick on you now more than ever. The choice I susspect is as Batfink says to evolve or be food for our skill less gang bangers. Its worth remembering Bruv does not complain about HO ers gangers etc he nips in grabs his multiple kills and home again despite what some lesser sticks say. I fly with him so I know this to be true.
Rise to the challenge and don't quit sir :salute
Even senile smelly old man Yarbles is trying to take on the ho ing ganging horde from time to time and triumph. If I can do it no doubt a young chappy like yourself should be able to get stuck in. Duelling is one thing but succesfully harvesting the MA rabble perhaps quite another. When I see you regularly landing 10 or more kills without vulching you have my permission to leave. In the meantime pull yourself together man :furious :old: :D
-
Just leave JockyM :rofl
I a week you will be a distant memory :rofl
Or join The GFC it will change your life as you know it :)
-
<S> Gunna miss ya JOACH1M.
No matter how good a stick you are, you can always be overwhelmed beat down and killed. I get alot of fun out of fighting 1 on 1, then I get some more fun as my SA let's me see the situation change and then I get to decide whether to stay and fight to the death OR try to egress, if only to live as long as I can. If I find myself in an overwhelming situation where the only option is a fight to the death from a disadvantage, then I try and figure out what I did wrong. Doesn't mean it wasn't fun, but it probably wasn't smart.
Be kind to yourself, start by looking at how you interact with the game not how the game interacts with you, because, it doesn't.

I'm really impressed at the level of self-awareness and honesty in this statement. The first thought I have when people complain about being ganged is, 'Why did you dive into a crowd, or get into a position where a crowd could get at you?' I know sometimes it's unavoidable, but that's what makes the MA fun IMO.
I hope a bit of time off will let you come back refreshed. If not, and this is goodbye for good, good luck in all you do. :salute

And you've been playing this game how long now? Lots of us "oldtimers", have seen the gameplay degrade throughout the years since AW up to and including FA, WB, and AHI and AHII. We just roll with it and accept that it is the way of things. Gameplay is based upon individuals and you have to play the game to please you and nobody else! The main thing about this game is that it's up to YOU to create your own enjoyment and not others.
All the Best...
Jay

I always told him not to get stuck with that DA mindset.

NO! Don't give the frigging almighty "HO" excuse! Ho's have been around since the early days of WWII and will continue and until you can accept the fact that it might happen, GET OVER IT or GET OUT! I'm so frigging sick and tired about hearing about HO's in the game that I just might go out and buy me a HO and see what the fuss is all about.
All the Best...

* Pick a different arena -
Try a different arena.. Good call.. :aok.... Two country's.. axis vs allied planes. Not all late war air craft all the time.. Closer base to base, flight to a fight and less ganging 12 clearing and shoulder shooting. There comes a point were those other arenas start to look pretty cool if your getting frustrated with the status quo....to each there own but heck.... DONT QUIT! :) :aok

Go away and make a movie Jo!
It works for me ;)

I don't know. The moment I get frustrated is approximately a few moments before I log. But a lot of people let their emotions go and become frustrated or angry.
-
I do understand Jo's frustration, I also came from the DA and it can be difficult to adapt to the MA, in your core I mean. I think finding decent fights in the MA is somewhat like a toaster control, it is very difficult to find that setting between being underdone and getting completely charred. Especially if you fly alone a lot.

Personally I don't think you'll leave so your not getting some teary goodbye from me JoJo :D
Gameplay well I think its to do with too many players in one arena, the arenas were spilt for a reason a while back but people cried for a single arena to come back by voting with their feet or crying on these forums. I think it ends up a cesspool of hoardes in a big arena, sad thing is this is actually what players want....so long as they are on the winning hoarde ;)
-
Gameplay well I think its to do with too many players in one arena,
Then we must have a way better gameplay today then we had for a long time :devil
-
two arenas was just as bad, it gave another arena choice for squads that like to roll bases with little or no confrontation from the opposing sides, harder to hide in one arena.

That's what's being stated here on a regular basis since 1999... ;)
And by the way, in my subjective memory the peaks in terms of altitude (ha!) had been during the capture order phase and in the first week after the P-47M came out.
Not that I think high altitude combat would be anything bad. Quite the contrary.

Nothing you can do about the alt crowd. It basically comes down to accepting that either you go up there with them, which will force it higher, or you waggle your tail below them hoping they'll come down. And with the mob, as it was last night, the fun comes from making as many of them as possible miss before you die. If you fly low enough, counting your kills by augering them comes into play as well.
There was one 'sad' realization last night for me. In one fight there was a Spit 16 and an N1K with alt, and an A20 down low. And without question I knew that the biggest threat was the A20. Really too bad that in our goofy AH world, the A20 driver would be in essence the protection for a Spit 16 and an N1K. He bent that A20 all over the place, forcing overshoots and rolling in behind to get snap shots. The 16 and N1K would blow in at light speed from 3K out shoot and miss before going back out 3K or more to turn around. The A20 finally died and the Spit and N1K ran for home. They had all the advantages both in Alt and E and could do nothing with it, while the A20 driver had none and made for a heckuva good fight. And it wasn't Cobia38 either :)
-
Difficult to do that on subjective memories ;)
you are the little snail that could... I know you can... subjective snail memories still have subjective alt points which in turn can be subjectively graphed even if the graph ends up looking like the outline of a snail shell.

High alt fights are alot of fun as long as you have an opponent willing to play along. IMO there's nothing more fun then flying a jug at 25K and seeing a co-alt K4 or 152. The problem is most get up there wanting to be alone so they can pick the airplanes 10k below them.

I agree, hi alt fights can be mind bendingly intense, there is soo mutch management and thinking that can go on in a good one that it is very fun, kind of like balancing a pool cue on top of a ping pong ball on top of another pool cue! Unfortunately almost all hi alt fights are 2-turn and dive. :huh

As people get older they get more cranky but Jo is still only about 17!!!. Still I ve heard the young grow up quickly these days :old:
In every game or forumn I ve been aware of someone starts with the" isn't like it used to be" within about 2 weeks of it getting started. The fact that things have been going down hill since the invention of human memory leads the thoughtfull to sometimes think again.
This will be Jo's first though hopefully not his last official flounce :salute

I've always had an alt cap of 10k, really I just wanted to get to the furball faster and enough room to have a little fun. Problem is everyone is either above you or below you. The 15-20k group tends to (I mean 80%) make one pass and run for home. The Majority are willing to engage you with 5k advtantage however the second that advantage is lost then zooooooooom back home. I find it more common with P51s, spits, F4us for obvious reasons.
I don't want to scream timidness, however I believe its lack of understanding and skill and I believe most squads simply don't take time to train their pilots. I admit i'm somewhat of a failure on this, I have been trying to train up my squad members with some basic ACM and understanding that unless you die enough times trying to defend yourself, running away never will help you learn.
My biggest hatred is the 25k fights that in 1 pass, dive for the deck to escape. FSO would be rockin if you could sustain a fight up there, even in the main arena. I believe another issue is most people arn't alone, and its not a 1vs1 situation, always "he was 5k away and I didnt want to get jumped".
I believe if people started learning to stand on their own two feet, the quality could improve. I know many factors are involved here, and I don't have the answers to help improve on them, or even any room to speak for that matter, for years I was nothing more then a slashy run51 pilot.
Hell I still am, if only this damn I-16 would pedal faster.

I would think that maps have an effect on altitude.
Yes, they do but only in more extreme cases, of players are forced to cross high mountains for example (trinity in intital phase).
When the capture order was tested many years ago, it was due to limiting the action to 3-6 airbases in the whole arena, which lead to a stacking effect (player density in that area being too high).
I found it interesting that the alt monkey effect during the introduction of the P-47M didn't last for long. Even though the plane was very effective (very high K/D for a newly introduced fight, much higher than today), players went back to their old rides and lower altitude mission profiles, even if that meant lower K/Ds. Doesn't fit exactly the "altitudes get higher and higher all the time". There are always some alt monkey (me being one of them). But without a proper reason induced by the game, people hardly spend the time to climb above low altitude (and much less to stay there and fight).
-
you are the little snail that could... I know you can... subjective snail memories still have subjective alt points which in turn can be subjectively graphed even if the graph ends up looking like the outline of a snail shell.

Inflexable expectaions of what should be versus what is in our lives keeps shrinks in vacation homes and super models down in the carribian. Or the sure bet posts like this will showcase said infelxible expectations until HTC finally closes it's doors.
The Marines say: "Adapt and Overcome".
AHers say: "Never adapt, just go Waaaa and complain".
Carribian is nice this time of year.......................
While I understand the "Adapt and Overcome" it really doesn't apply here.
In the old days I came into this game to fight. I could up a GV, or a plane and either defend a base or attack one. Most of the time I would be upping with any where from 5-15 like minded people looking to do nothing but fight. Fight for a base, fight to defend it, it didn't matter. When the base was captured, the fight didn't stop, just the rolls reversed.
Today, to defend a base I have to be lucky and either spot a horde on the move but not yet at the base it will be attacking, or hear from someone else they spotted one. I up alone or with 1 or 2 other of a like mind. We grab to a good alt 12-15 k and head into the base they are attacking. It's best to get there a minute or two AFTER the horde this way most of them are already on the deck. If any are still high we fight.... this means you avoid the HO attempt and watch them dive to the deck. After that it is mostly just pick the vulchers until you get too slow/low and get ganged. Once the base is captured, everyone disappears.
Today, to attack a base you up with the mission/horde....there are no controls on numbers as everyone believes more is better. Should the mission controller assign targets... LOL!!!! I hit mine and blow through to grab out the other side and return with some of my alt regained. Now light, I circle the field grabbing alt looking for those that will be coming in from a near-by base. When they come in we fight....this means avoiding the HO attempt and watch them dive away. Again I play pick the pickers/vulchers until ganged or the base is captured. Then everyone disappears.
"Adapt and Overcome", sure, but I'm no longer playing the game I started all those years ago. I now pretty much only fly fast planes and practice running from gangs. Now and then you run into an player who will play the game and a great fight happens... last Saturday I was in a pony and Pipz was in a spit 9, ended in a draw as the gang invaded, but was a fun 4 or 5 minutes until then.
How much fun is it to defend against 50 guys diving strait at you guns blazing as they auger into their targets? Old days some guys would go lite and protect the dive bombers, and the dive bombers survived the bomb run to help cap the field after.
How much fun is it to dive in with 50 other guys and be one of only a hand full that survive the run, and to have the entire field flattened so nothing ups? Old days defenders upped to defend because they wanted to fight. Now they don't care/bother because defending dose NOTHING to help you capture bases.
So now we are either in a horde vulching or picking, or chasing a horde to vulch or pick. It's easy to see why people get bored and frustrated and leave the game. The game hasn't changed, or if it has it has gotten better with all the new toys and graphics. On the other hand the players have whittled the game play down to the barest of minimums to capture bases as quick as they can to get to that magic number total BEFORE one of the other teams does.
It's kinda like golf. We play it from the back tees, avoiding the hazards, laying up when needed, going for it when we can. The new players have removed all the hazards, and set up a net to catch the ball and drop it gently on the green which is now cone shaped with the hole positioned at the bottom of the cone. We have 4 hours of fun, challenge and yes even some frustration while playing with our friends for our round and if lucky walk away just over par. The new players can get it done in 20 minutes and they all get an 18, and are off to do it again.
I still like golf the old way.

:O
I'm really impressed at the level of self-awareness and honesty in this statement. The first thought I have when people complain about being ganged is, 'Why did you dive into a crowd, or get into a position where a crowd could get at you?' I know sometimes it's unavoidable, but that's what makes the MA fun IMO.
I hope a bit of time off will let you come back refreshed. If not, and this is goodbye for good, good luck in all you do. :salute
Wiley.
I'm Wiley's wingman, great guy, great fun to fly with BTW. On many occassions though the conversation has been:
Zoney: Hey Wiley whatchadoin?
Wiley: I'm in trouble, was in a fight on the deck and now I got 4 guys on me, I'm outta wep, oiled, right under you.
Zoney: Hey Wiley whatchadoin?
:O

I always Respected you as a Pilot (Good Fights when we found em in the MA) but you come here posting Stating "I am Done" are you referring to that your Done in the MA or the Rest of the game???. I busted ya tonight in the DA fighting and no replies :headscratch: :headscratch: :headscratch: A Good Player who is tired of the game and who has tried all other aspects of the
game will just walk away without a "Look At Me Post" to get their Attention and in no Ways Joachim you do not need this.
If your serious about leaving the game just leave no Special post to tell players or the guys you like flying with your intentions. Just Leave and so Be it!!!
When I left back in 2000 I did not do any look at me post I just walked away from the game and left alot of good friends behind when I left and now that I returned I have found those friends that I once Flew with back in the beta days here and prior to leaving. Once I came back I found those Friends (even tho I am flying different planes now) I still found those players and Still have the respect from them when I left them back in the day and even new players now even tho I stink as a Fighter jock but I try my best.
I am sorry about this post but the Truth has to come out about these Look at me post about leaving the Game are putting a sour taste into other players thoughts when someone Say's I am Leaving the Game!!! looking for attention of others to talk you into staying. Ya either leave or just stay, Like other players of the game have mentioned and before and scripted from the band Eagles.

Nada wrong with the DA mindset, I quietly plod along to my .5 k/d but am afforded all sorts of neat fights. I am also shot in the face, rammed, and ganged down frequently. Good with the bad :)

Probably "no text"
-
1. n/t
An abbreviation commonly used in email and on internet bulletin boards and web-groups for "no text" or "note topic." This abbreviation is used when the subject line of a forum or email based post states all or a majority of what a writer desires to say.
Example #1: email
Subject: Please take the clothes out of the wash when you get home!!
Body: n/t

As for gameplay, the current map [trinity?] is terrible for game play because those mountains aresuch an obstruction to getting to enemy, that they force long climbouts to a few focal points of action. A week of this map will make anyone want to quit. Just take a break and you'll come back to it. :aok

Between here and AW, Ive been at this longer than you've likely been alive....nothing has changed in the short blip you've been here, you've simply grasped everything that always gone on. There is no end of stuff you can do here to amuse yourself...fly a difficult plane (something other than a spit16, for instance) fly differently, try different strategies, try different groups of people. You've barely scratched the surface

Maybe flying with Perdweeb has cursed me, or maybe you're just lucky, but I always seem to do rather poorly in scenarios. Its fun untill the actual combat starts, when I can't seem to make a kill, and usually get my arse handed to me.

<S>Joach1m Hope to see back! Take a break my friend. When you come back just try and control what you can. Plan for the HO, the pile on ect. ect. Expect it and if it does not happen you will be pleasently surprised. Anyway, your day won't be impacted. We are really (for the most part) all buddies in here. If we met outside the game would you bust someone in the mouth for HO'ing you in the game....no way! That sets the importance my friend. Hope to see you come back someday very soon.
