Title: Ford issued a major recall on the Mustang
Post by: CAP1 on December 02, 2011, 10:24:31 PM

two years ago. i hadn't known about this.

DETROIT—-Ford officials issued a massive recall of the entire 2010 Mustang line Tuesday, apologizing for a quality-control oversight that led to the company manufacturing a badass muscle car that was way too awesome for the American public. "We deeply regret this lapse in judgment and accept full responsibility for the mistake," Ford CEO Alan R. Mulally said standing beside a gorgeous, cherry-red vehicle recalled for being "way too smoking." "After numerous road tests, we've found the car to be a mean, mean ride that Americans are simply not cool enough to handle, and it would be irresponsible of us to allow anyone to get behind the wheel of this killer car. It's truly frightening how sweet the Mustang is." According to Mulally, Ford has canceled production on the 2011 Mustang, and will instead release a line of fuel-efficient vehicles in an effort to appeal to boring old Americans.

Why? The only difference is the anniversary tag on the side.

Ford also apologizes for subjecting its' customers to the shame of being thoroughly stomped by the Camaro ZL-1.  Ford decided to cover the costs of all the kleenex and personal counseling services the Mustang drivers have to go through after getting blown away by said Camaro.  Ford has opened numerous call centers where disenchanted Mustang owners can talk about their regrets.

CHEVY OWNS FORD!

Actually Ford might want to recall the Mustang purely as a humanitarian gesture, to stop the flood of new Camaro owners from committing suicide when they realize they spent a lot of money buying a car that runs a distant second to the Mustang.    :rofl

I've only seen speculative art and nothing from Ford, has that changed? I wasn't please to hear they were going to abandon the retro body style and do something more modern-looking. I'd have liked them to go MORE retro (IMO, of the "retro" cars the Challenger is the best-looking PRECISELY because of how much closer it is to the classic car).

At any rate, if I could ever afford a Mustang I'd just by one of the '65 reproduction bodies and have it built out from there. :-P

 AGREED on the challenger.

and you're right. virtually everyone that mentions anything about my gt, says how much it makes em think of a 60's mustang. that is what i like so much about her looks.

on this second link, that nose looks like a cross between a charger, a camaro, and a mustang.

I still think the Chevy is by far a much better show of American muscle. However i call trump with this beast! and yes that is a twin turbocharged CHEVY V8. Thats 1200 HP

on a real recall note my dad has a bmw 528 on order. Its currently sitting in dealer storage as ALL of the new series bimmers with the new turbo 4-pot have been recalled. theres a problem with the heads, which means that every car with the new engine has to have a full engine rebuild. they have plenty of heads in stock, but no engine bolts ... :bhead can you imagine how much this is going to cost bmw :uhoh

If the past hennessey and ligenfelter cars are any indication, that black car in the pic above will dyno less than 1000hp on our dyno dynamics twin retarder.

Either way, that still 800hp (on our dyno) less than our ford currently puts down on our dyno.

one of the mechanics across the street has a 1 series. he loves it. he's been doing the suspension, brakes, etc. he was thinking of putting a header on, but said there's some sort of recall on them too, so he's waiting till he gets that handled.

 his buddy's 5 series just ran a 12.5 1/4 mile a couple weeks ago.

there's already been a boss302 stock, 'cept for blower install dyno'd a little over 800hp. they ran 21psi of boost though. at 16psi it was only making in the 740 range.  :devil

2007-> 1 series coupes are getting cheaper here now, the 135i would be a great car to do some work on. I understand the 3l six will happily run 400hp+ with just chipping, breathing and cooling :aok

(edit: I doubt the gearbox will last very long though ...)

 i think that's where he's headed.

he had come over to check out my stang when i got it, and we ended up talking till his boss called him on my shop phone. he's having fun with it. he's in one of the local bmw clubs, and is gonna let me know when/if they have any of their track days down at millevile raceway. he's definitely looking to roadrace it.
i think my friend with his z4 will be joining us too, but i seriously suspect he's not gonna do as well as he expects. it'll be massive fun though.

I know someone had a Z4 for ... about 6 months. sold because it was terrible on bumpy roads and understeery on any road, cant imagine it would be much fun on a race track.

for whatever reason, he loves that thing. it's cool looking with the top down, and he seems to take exit ramps sorta fast in it. it's pretty quick for a straight six, but then again, it's a crazy light car too.

he took me down to cape may county to pick up one of our cap vans just before hurricane irene came through. i agree......very bumpy ride. not what i'd expect from any beemer. did decent on the highways though.

i looked up some specs on them.....it's nearly perfectly balanced, so it may do well at a track day. the road courses at milleville from what i've heard, though, are very tough. that may be his undoing in that car.

personally, if i had the choice between that, and an m3......ima takin the m3.

While it may be fun to drive and have lots of power....Fords Quality control just sucks.

Take for example a 2007 Mustang GT Convertibe.

4 years old.... Babied and never driven in bad weather total of  36,000 miles.

Replace Brakes all the way around "Rotors Warped"
Replace BOTH lower control arms.
Replace COMPLETE Air Bag system (4 trips back to dealership over 4 years)

and for the Cherry on top of the Schiesse Pie!   Replace the Convertible Top at Customers Expense because of a faulty Window seal.

And then top that....return the vehicle with gallons of water in the back seat...and destroyed Sub-Woofers on the Shaker 500 Stereo System....  Oh ... you want THAT fixed?  That will cost another $1200.

There you have it....  At Ford...Quality is job NONE!

Toyota....here I come!

that's odd. guess you got a friday car.

having owned some form of mustang since 1979, i've owned and driven em all, from 60's stangs, a 74 pinto stang, 2 fox body stangs, and now my current ride.
the 74 went nearly 200k before the 2.3 needed rebuilding. the 60's cars did just as most 60's cars did...they rotted away. i did some repair work on em, but got rid of em when i got my 83 gl 5 liter. virtually the only problems i ever had with that car, were problems brought on by my building things bass ackwards. i upped the power significantly, upped the traction, and didn't replace the weak 7.5 rears they used to have. i blew 3 of them, then went to currie enterprises for a good ole indestructible 9"
the only problem i ever had with the 89gt, was that it stood out so much, that i kept getting pulled over. she NEVER broke on me. that includes launching at 6200rpm on drag radials. all were daily drivers. all saw more abuse and more mileage than this one's gonna see.

we've had fords in our family for as long as i can remember........and never got left stranded by any of them.

i'm extremely happy with the quality of my mistress in black, and don't think she'll let me down in the years to come.

i should also add, that she's a thursday car.  :aok

bizarre

I also own a 2000 6 banger convertible that's had pretty much standard maintenance for 130 k miles.  I've only had to replace a power window unit and replace the clutch (thanks dear ex ... choke on something).  It does seem to eat tires but other than that... no problems

and.. I'll refer you all to my first post this thread.. still going ;)

hhmm....sounds like you're cornering her hard. or is there any abnormal wear? if you think there is, snap a pic........

well thats really kind of sad. if you build a car to break the speed record, wouldnt you also want to sell it? i mean, just think of all the millionaires that would love one of those.

bugatti loses money(supposedly) on every veyron sold. i'm sure the american counterpart does the same.

building cool cars for normal folk is the way to go.

Nothing to worry about.. I only put about 11k a year on a car regardless.  Between taking her to work most days and the 2012 about twice a week and weekends the blackstang only has 3200 miles on her so far.  Just something about those 2000's eat tires and no I don't corner hard at all unless it's an emergency.  Figure I'll get two more years out of this set then I'll probably retire her.

I'm going to guess your tire treadwear is less than 200.

just for the hell of it, snap a pic, and post it. usually we can give you an idea of any possible alignment issues just from seeing the wear pattern.

also, if you had her aligned by a chain type of shop......go find a mom and pop shop, and have them check it. there's a few things that they'll know that the monkeys at the chain types don't.

Funny stuff Cap :)

2005 Mustang here.  107k miles.

So far, I have replaced the stepper motors in the instrument cluster.  $360.00 from the shop, not going to happen, so I ordered the parts and re-soldered the board myself.  $14.00

Brake pads at 60k, probably getting close to needing them again.

Coolant recovery tank split, composite job, $45.00

Thermostat housing, another composite job, $25.00

Third set of tires on it.

That's it.  Nothing else has so much as burped on that car.  Oil Changes and Gas, that's it.

I own this mustang, Toyota Camry, Porsche Boxster and a van for vacations.  I drive the mustang nearly exclusively.  Porsche is not exactly comfortable for me, wife likes it better, she comes in at 5' tall and the car's just a bit small to me.  Great car, love it, but simply prefer the stang.

I don't have anything against mustangs but in my mind the 2010 Camaro is a better looking car.

Here is mine on a driveway with a Ferrari 430 and an Aston Martin DB9.

It doesn't look too out of place.

Yea, both the Ferrari and the Aston look 1,000% better with the tops down.

I don't have a shot of the DB9 with it down at the office, but this is what the Ferrari looks like:

im happy you got the 430 in red. i swear ferraris are the only car that looks good in red. even your camaro in my opinion would seem better in a dark blue or black over the red. but my opinion only <S>

The DB9 we have at work has the sequential manual tranny and a supercharger.

topless DB9 makes sense as its a grand tourer. topless 430 not so much.

edit: how many bhp is that DB9 putting out icepac?

LOL

It isn't my Ferrari or Aston.  Mine is the cheap American one.  ;)

Sorry if I gave that impression.

It is the first sports car I ever owned and only the second new car.  It just didn't seem right to get anything but red.  <shrug>

looks better with the top down.....but honestly, i've never cared for ferraris. your car still looks better, and if either of them were offered to me for free....i'd take the ferreri, sell it, buy a mustang, and a camaro, and bank the left over money.

Not completely finished with the aston yet because it is a ford modular engine running on a Siemens ecu with very little tuning support available.........which is important since this car has a sequential manual transmission (not a glorified automatic but a true clutched manual that is servo shifted.)

It is similar to the EECVI but only slightly.

EECVI on top and siemens on bottom.

The engine tuning is easy but there is a bit of a learning curve in getting the car to not flag a code when it senses more torque than the ecu expects.

Quick phone video of two of our cars.

the DBR9 ran a seq manual, and with lots more torque than the road car. might be worth looking at what ecus they were using :)

The 430 was my wet dream car as a small boy then the 599 came out along with the Lamborghini Balboni.
