you will see me in either a spit1,hurri1, or m3 with with a .50 aiming for it.. :neener:

Well, I for one am now quaking.

I think you will need to make many passes in order to get your kill, and beware of the auto ack that he will drag you through and the Wirble or Osty laying in ambush with their guns already aimed at you. Oh, and I've smoked more than one aircraft with the rear gun of a 110, Boston, and B5N so dont ever discount its ability to defend itself. ;)

Keep in mind that other people will be aiming at you, and they wont downgrade to an early war fighter. ;)

I think everybody and I mean even country men will be shooting at the stork just to be the first to kill it :noid.

You will hear me laughing, much louder than your stall horn as I watch you auger whilst I am still airborne at < 40 mph.

:rofl

I can already hear the laughter and whines when
Storches are main gunned by tanks :aok
Gonna be funny
 Oz

Spit I has no .50.
Hurri I has no .50.
M-3 just won't climp.

Was thinking the same thing :lol

yeah Storches are gonna get main gunned all day.

Nah, just fly at 1K. And as Storches has no reason to fly directly into a tank they'll always look like a moving target therefore it will be hard to kill them with the main gun.

I'm aware that they have no 50. I was referring to the m3 about the .50.

hopefully after this they will make tank guns have no effect on airborne planes...

In real life, having shot hundreds and hundreds of maingun rounds, do you know how absolutely difficult it would be to hit a plane? With the new proximity rounds much different though they didn't have these in tank calibers during WW2? I've read of one occassion where a German Panther popped a 51 during WW2. I'm sure it happened more then this though no where near as frequent as it does in AH. Just say'n...

pshhh ok then IL be in a d3a. IL be sure to make swipes for it, would be like a 51 against a b5n... Hell IL just up a F2B.

doesn't matter, the pintle gun on a tank will tear it up anyway.
thinkin it wont be much stronger than a ww1 fighter, and they are blown away by .30's all day long..

im fine with that... just get rid of tanks shooting planes with main guns.

Could you please post the source.

While this is definitely true I main gunned a C47 with my Tiger2 flying perpendicular to me 1.5K out. Probably the best shot I've ever made on a plane.

i got shot 2.5k once... its just not right. Good shot, but not right..

Tell planes to stop flying coaxial to my main gun and perhaps I'll consider not pulling the trigger...
-
Sorry, don't have the source though I believe it was a historical magazine. As I recall it was one of those 'blink your eye' moments told from the pilots view of diving on a Panther, watching first a puff from the main gun then a hit and engine problems. Could have been a 20mm from an unseen Whirble, no telling though he thought it was the Panther. As for it happening in other cases, I wouldn't be surprised for the odd Panther v Il-2 kill in the vast Steppes of the Soviet Union. I've never read of it but willing to believe with thousands of birds and tanks and likely many more shots a few landed.
Sorry, memory and speculation.

if it happened more often with historical proof then i wouldn't be whining. old Gv system i was fine with it. I prefer simulation over game and you see trying to aim through a straw to hit planes is more acceptable to me. But having a tank commander say "hey aim at that plane" when realistically the gunner would have to find a needle in a haystack to do so. I love the new Gv system but it is all but too common...
-
It's top speed is 109mph so I hope it'll be available from vehicle bases. Pretty long ride to the front even from the closest friendly airfield.

look at the pictures. Small runway at vbase

I think its a balance issue, Tanks should easily be able to shoot down aircraft with a main gun, otherwise B-25s, IL-2s and HurriD's would run rampage through GV's like no tomarrow, one key issue is however, if a plane climbs over a certain ...alt the gun can only raise so far.
Unless you are like me who sit on a hill, because i can easily drive backwards off it and range my barrel almost 90 degrees upward which deter P-47s from diving on me, pure luck as I have never been able to do it again.

if i don't get to see the tanks before they see me with this update coming up. This "balance" will be off. Just more reason to ger rid of it, besides that's what mobile AA is for isn't it? Not to mention fighter support...

Agreed %100. A tank being able to shoot down a fighter with its main gun in AH is a travesty.

I disagree, we all know it's possible, and not terribly difficult to do...
...If you fly the dumbest attack approach possible.
No one is twisting your arm to fly that low, no one is forcing you to fly at something with a dangerous pointy end that is very easily avoidable.
Other than a random happenstance you are not going to get hit by a tank shell unless you are flying crazy low on a direct strafing approach against one.
So it is not a travesty, it's crappy tactics and flying that causes this. Have a little patience, and set up an attack that keeps you out of danger.
The very good IL2 HurriD pilots make attacks from 45degrees or possibly steeper for a couple of reasons.
1. the attack is made upon the top armor of the target that is usually by far the weakest.
2. The enemy tank can not return fire from it's main gun, because it does not traverse that high.
3. They spent the extra few seconds to set up a proper attack, which maximizes their results, and minimizes their risks. (other than lawndarting)
-
Oh and to add to this...
I get hit frequently. But it's because I'm impatient, lazy, or stupid. I'm not going to complain, because I KNOW I could have very easily avoided it.
-

No-- it's an airbase. See the hangar?

190 historically attacked as low as 22 degrees when attacking armor. As i said, and i don't know about you but I'm sure most people would agree. I play for simulation not for gamey interface and possibility's. You want historical facts? Planes bombed tanks, Tanks rarely shot back with main gun, nations made mobile AA and struggled for air superiority to prevent planes from bombing there tanks. I rather be shot down with a 88 halftrack AA than a 88 tiger. Its not crappy flying, flying low if anything takes more skill than flying high when attacking tanks with cannon or rocket. Oh, and PLEASE do not tell me its right when all you have to do is have your tank commander look at me and have the gunner follow and push a little button. Ground targets maybe but when you tell me that it should be as easy as it is now to shoot aircraft, that's just wrong. Specially when its about to get harder for us ground support pilots in game not being able to see these ground to air snipers before its too late. The ah pilots came to a compromise with being able to see icons, the least that ah tankers can do is give something back.

I want to be very clear on the matter: I cant remember the last time I've been shot down by a tank's main gun. It isn't a problem for me. I rarely take up an IL-2, and when I do it is usually with full ords and the 23mm. The Hurricane IID is my baby, I fire 1-2 volleys inside 400 yards (conv set at 300) usually at 45° or steeper, then pull up and reset for the next pass if need be. :aok
Matter of fact, I think I shoot 1-2 aircraft down a week using the main gun on a tank. I wish I didn't have that capability though, seriously. I do it because I can and it keeps me alive for a bit longer on the battlefield when I don't have AA or fighter support. After that, it seems I get carpet bombed from a set of Lanc-Stukas. :(
