I know there are a lot of us on here, and I've seen quite a few pics of some very nice ones on here. It's winter and I'm having withdrawels. The one rule is that CAP can't mention mustangs in this entire thread :lol

Yes it is :D, a mutant of a 69 but still a 69 :lol. It was a NOM car when I got it, and finished the restoration the way I wanted it.

I hate vettes. It's not the car so much as working on them. And it's not working on them that is the problem but the owners who insist on hanging out with you and watching and talking like they know what they are talking about (they rarely do) and closely monitoring my actions to make sure I don't scratch anything or put a greasy fingerprint on anything shiny.
It's not the car but the owners that tend to be a problem. They are almost never worth the hassle.
Not that I'm trying to offend anyone here I'm just calling it as I see it!

The 454 emblems and gill slits threw me. :D
What kind of blower is on the C5, and is that a breaker point ignition in the 69?
-
Tigger29,
I understand your point fully. What you have to keep in mind is that a lot of vette owners, think they have something real special, imaginary or not (most of it is imaginary as you could guess). It takes a lot of trust for them to leave their car out of their site with someone who has full access to it. This is hard to overcome for most shops. At my shop we work on a lot of vettes of all years C1-C6, a lot even come from your area. Most of my vette business comes from car shows and word of mouth, if they know the service manager is a vette guy, it really puts them at ease, and they tend to drop them off with me, knowing that I tend to do most of the vette work at our shop.

Yes the 454 emblems are off of a 70, it's actually a 468 (close enough). The gill slits are stock for 68-69 but the inserts for 69 were an option. They would normally be argent with a chrome lip, but we removed the argent for them to be full chrome. It's still running the breakerpoint distributor, due to the mechanical tach drive (that's another story), but is actually running a Crane electronic ignition for the guts (has rev limiter built in).
The C5 FRC's blower is a magnusson 112 unit, blueprinted and ported by Stegemier performance.

Picture is named "new maggie", so... magnacharger? I'd ask for details on the kit, except I have a G8 not a vette :) My Dad has a Z06 vette that looks pretty similiar (that awesome electric blue or whatever they call it), but he tucked a blower under the hood of his miata a few years ago and I think he's still grinning from that little experiment.
Yea, when you retire in San Diego, you get a miata to zip around town for most of the year and a vette for drives over 50 miles and for when it rains. It's a rough life apparently, having to decide whether to drive the 200hp skateboard or 400hp supercar to the beach or into the mountains for the spring runs through "the twisties". I understand the miata club stops at Dudley's bakery so they can legitimately call it a grocery run...
Maybe 10-15 years from now when the kids head out to college, I'll put a blower on my G8 if I still have it. That ought to be loads of fun since after pulling the collapsable lifters from the G8 motor and just a little parts swapping, guys are getting 550+ hp pretty easily. A full-up supercharger kit, tune, and tranny/suspension tweaks for my G8 ought to cost well under $10,000, which would get me a really fun to drive 500+ hp 4-door sedan for under $40k. It'll have to wait a bit though... Kids are damn expensive.

eagl,
Yea they make maggies for your LS-2 :aok. I'd still like to get a G8 GT for a driver and give my wife the GXP Grand Prix (LS-4) to drive. I have to wait till the grand prix is paid for first though. I would have bought a G8 to start with, but I needed something to get through the snow, so a V8 grand prix was the best compromise I could find. I really like G8's though :D

on Vette owners and mechanics:
There are many like it, but this Vette is *mine* .. try not to screw it up or feed me a line of BS about it.
I hate mechanics who scratch the crap out of the fenders using dirty fenderguards
who dont realize that I have probably forgotten more than they know and I have a *very* low tolerance for BS.

personally, i went away from using the traditional type of fender apron years ago. the ones i use are soft cloth, and i've yet to damage or scratch a car.
i did however have a kid try to blame his cracked fender on me. thankfully i had taken pictures of it before we even moved it into the shop. i've since then heard that the 70's vettes were common for the fenders cracking at the top of the arch.

And what is on the driveway next to the white stingray????

The 1963 split window corvette has always been high on my dream car list. Maybe one of these days :pray
-
BigRat that is a beautiful 99 FRC. The most sought after color imho and the tigershark looks fantastic as always. Absolutely beautiful. I was looking for a nassau blue one when I bought my 2000frc but the pewter was local and the price was right. I'm finding pics of mine to post right now.
-
Ok, here are my vettes....well former vettes :cry
This is my first vette. I bought this 2002 Z06 in 2004 with 10,009 miles on the clock and bone stock. I paid $38k for it and I was only 22 at the time. I added a cold air intake, LG Pro long tubes with borla stingers out back. Dyno tuned @388rwhp. Best 1/4mile was a 12.07@116mph with a slipping clutch. Sadly I was not much into taking pictures when I had this car so all I can find are these crappy small pictures. I sold this car to buy my first house in 2006.

After having vette withdrawals and having a brand new house I downgraded to a 2000 Pewter FRC (hence the in game name PewterC5). I bought this one cheap for $17k. This one was more show than go although it did have a cold air intake, and borla straight pipes (noise makers). I painted the calipers red, added the front grill screens, put custom colored "commemorative edition" stripes on, and a set of stock c6 wheels (these were quite a bit heavier the factory 5 stars that came on the car). This car went back to back 12.7@108 on a good night so it could still hold its own against a lot of cars on the street.

I soon had a baby on the way so the pewterC5 was sold in favor of something I could put a baby seat in. It was replaced with the vette's obese cousin...

The CTS-V turned out to be a major pain in the buttox with getting him in and out of the car seat. So the V was sold and now I have a boring yukon Xl. It is a much better family mover but god do I miss having a fun car. However, having a son is so much more fun and enjoyable. And I have a stripped out miata for when I get the autocross itch. Its like an oversized go cart and it tows behind the yukon nicely.

the wheels from the first vette would look great on the striped vette. i like the striping on that one. the hood on the first one kinda resembles a firebird.....to me anyway.
i had no clue that the back seats in the cts-v's were so tight. from that picture, it looks almost like fitting a full grown adult back there wouldn't work too well?
there's stuff you can do to make that yukon faster. the money will be better spent on the miata though. i almost bought one from a customer, but he would only sell it to me if i bought his v-12 7 series bmw, which had way more problems than i wanted to fix in order to resell that one. i wanted the miata to either turbocharge, or do a v-8 swap. had another customer with a miata(with those stupid cow pattern seats) turbocharged, and intercooled, running 12.0's. it was his only car, and he flogged that thing every chance he got.

Plawranc, If that's yours, very nice :aok 68?
What Steve did was something I have been contemplating for years but didn't have the space for. I always wanted to strip down a C4, and make a roadrace car out of it. There was a tempting one at funfest this year, already had a full cage with fabricated dash and gauges, and carbed 383 out front. Wife would have killed me or made me sell one of the others. Very cool Steve :aok
Reaper90, you can always get another, C5's are quite the bargain anymore, especially modified ones. Bang for the buck they are hard to beat on the used market. I've been driving vettes since I was 17, I hopefully plan to keep that streak going till I'm too :old: Looks like you had a nice build there, very similiar to my buddies 02 Z06, you had about 20hp on him though (he has stock heads still).
Grayeagle, you have to love a clean black vette :D
helbent, I think that's a cup I accidently walked out of Pizza Hut with 20 years ago :lol
SilverZ06, actually mine is a 2000 FRC :D, so it's one of the 2000 or so that year (only about 6000 FRC's total were made, for those looking for trivia) one of only 138 Nassau Blue FRC's built in 2000. Funny how a color isn't popular, then comes back popular like 6 years later as jetstream blue :headscratch: . Wow you had 3 nice cars in the last 6 years it looks like. I really liked your FRC, that had a nice combination on it :aok. I have a soft spot for FRC's becouse they are not well known and everyone just assumes they are a Z06.
For some of you I see that I have to be more specific in my term vette :lol
