Title: Storch Carrier Landings
Post by: Ping on December 23, 2011, 05:30:31 PM
Where can you put yours?

I had to swing in and dropped it hard,  So I lost the wheels and prop.  :lol

Ah hell, you broke the plane!  What you need to do is literally fly it while inside the hangar deck.

The other thing is landing in various places on the cruiser--though anyone can do that.  The trick is to land undamaged and takeoff again.

Even with the Storch's insane flaps, I think you would need to have the cruiser steaming into the wind to pull a take-off.

I don't have it on video, but i landed the storch on the aft end of the cruiser by the crane, then took off again ---- no damgage. it was fairly easy actually

The cruiser is already doing about 30, full flaps you just have to goose the throttle and within a few feet your airborne. Your right on the edge of stall but you can take off easily.

And theres the joke  :aok.

I was subtly saying it might not be possible (and it doesn't look like it is based on the distance you have to roll before you fall off the turret).

You can land the b5n on the tail of the cruiser and sit there until the group turns left and the ship will accelerate to where you can make a dead stick takeoff.

I think you could pull it off like I said it really take no distance at all to get off the deck.

That isn't wind, it is the speed of the ship you are sitting on.

It's not a carrier, but...

Took a few attempts to get the landing, liftoff was a breeze once I quit trying to turn around for more runway...  :airplane:

That isn't wind, it is the speed of the ship you are sitting on.

However that speed equates into the speed of the airflow over the wings.

Yes, but the point is that its still not wind.

I was able to land inside the main courtyard in town, the yard typical to the west of the main intersection.  Thing is though, there is no room to turn around and try and take off.   :)

If I get into a car in Mississippi and drive at 65 miles an hour north to Ohio...  when I get to Ohio and step out of the car, I've actually just broken the laws of physics and warped that distance instantly.  I never moved.  I sat down in my car, sat there for 17 hours, and then magically appeared in Ohio when I opened the door.  This is the same effect you're describing with the carrier.  You're definitely not moving and have a 0 velocity.

I believe that's correct...  or maybe it's all just relative?    :bolt:

Well yes its all relative. For instance from the perspective of inside the car no you did not move (at least not much). But from a worldly perspective indeed you did move.

Yes, but there's no wind inside my car.    :old:

IF..he was in Mississippi, having previously gone to same, he would have to have stopped for food..southern food..IE: there would INDEED have been wind in his car. And if the rear windows were closed, with child locks, anyone in rear seat would have asphyxiated..a sad end.

That isn't wind, it is the speed of the ship you are sitting on.
which is sped up from IRL speeds to accomodate wind during takeoff from the CV iirc

The million dollar question is: can a storch take off from a treadmill?
Title: Re: Storch Carrier Landings
Post by: Tank-Ace on December 26, 2011, 10:31:50 PM
Yes, it can. The treadmill won't keep its from going forward, it will just make its landing gear wheels spin at a higher RPM.

Wrong.  It is "relative wind" -- which happens to be all the wing cares about.

Exactly.  Airplanes aren't cars.  They don't generate thrust by the traction of their tires.
