Title: Its been a while since this has been asked.
Post by: Selino631 on January 22, 2012, 10:32:18 AM
Can they please add the Fiat G.55 Centauro already??? This plane is way overdue. I remember them talking about adding it when the VC Sherman Firefly was added to the game. G.55 would own everything....  :t

Never heard of this plane before.
Did it play a significant part in the war?  :headscratch:

Here's from my G.55 Thread from a few months ago:

The Fiat G.55 Centauro (Italian: "Centaur") was a single-engine single-seat World War II fighter aircraft used by the Regia Aeronautica and the A.N.R. (Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana) in 1943-1945. It was designed and built in Turin by Fiat. The Fiat G.55 was,[2] probably the best type produced in Italy during World War II, but it did not enter production until 1943.[3] During its short operational service, mostly under the Repubblica Sociale Italiana insignia, after the 8 September 1943, this powerful, robust and fast aircraft proved itself to be an excellent interceptor at high altitude.[4] In 1944, over Northern Italy, the Centauro clashed with British Supermarine Spitfire, P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt and P-38 Lightning. Italian fighter pilots liked their Centauro but by the time the war ended, only less than 300 had been built.[2]

I have detailed reports from the Italian Air Force from '44 May to the end of the war from day to day.
It says there were only a few G55s, but they seen heavy action til '44 late August, when the whole air force was equipped with 109s.
About as many units were equipped with G55s as with C205s. The pilots liked the C205 better tho.

Rate of climb: 5 min 50 sec at 6,000 m

How do you convert this to feet/min?

How do you convert this to feet/min?

3,000 meters = approx 19,685 feet
and 5min 50sec = 350 seconds.

So it takes 350 seconds to climb to 19,685 feet.

19685/350 = 56.24 feet for each second climbed

56.24X60 to convert feet into minutes = 3374.4FPM climb rate average to 19685 feet.

psssst.... 3000m = 9,800ft  :D

She sure does look purdy.  With all those cannons and possibly ord capability, I agree it would make a nice addition to HTC's hangars.

Now, not intended to cast a shadow over anyone's wish, I would like to mention the competition for new hangar entries has not gone in this direction from popular vote IIRC.  It is my question/ suggestion what if HTC had a yes or no list?  Meaning, would we relax the repeat wishes for PBY, Buffalo, Ki43, G55, D205, etc., if we knew that HTC had a plan to include them or not, at some untold time in the future?

For example, a very subtle post stating (just a fictitous example) PBY will not be added to the hangar of HTC in the forseeable future due to the phenomenal differences in airboat design and traditional AH airplane design.

Also, criteria like number of units produced, time period, combat statistics, compariable existing aircraft, etc., could be subtle answers to whether or not the old  :aok is given.

Or does that mean that it's the climb rate at that altitude?
It says "5 min 50 sec at 6,000 m", not "5 min 50 sec to 6,000 m from SL". But if that's the climb rate at 6km then the numbers don't make seance.  :headscratch:
