Title: aceshigh.exe has encountered a problem.
Post by: Banshee7 on February 04, 2012, 02:40:56 PM
Hi guys,

I tried logging into Aces High today with no luck.  Every time I hit "OK" to log in to access the online arenas, this is what I see:

This just started happening after the recent update.  Any ideas, or am I just plain stupid?

Suggest checking your firewall settings as well chaps. If you allowed it through before the patch, might have to reallow it through post patch.

I have also gotten reports that Kaspersky is interferring with the game and causing some game crashes as well.

Read this (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,71591.msg3215282.html#msg3215282) on how to run DXDIAG.

Also need to know what the exact settings being used for the game in both "Video Settings" and "Options->Graphic Detail->Advanced".

Also need to know if you are forcing any settings in the video cards control panel, such as anistropic, anti-aliasing, and so on.

The memory used, in the video card, is not accurate at all for Windows 7 or Vista.  It is only for Windows XP.

i"ve reduced vid settings, almost to default, and i don't get warnings or reports on why it crashes.  my whole puter freezes up and i gotta restart it all over.

Discos are a separate problem and more to do with the Internet, so I am putting those aside.

I see no reason why your system would be locking up, unless you are running Norton or Kaspersky on your system.  Is the CPU over-clocked?

You might try a complete, fresh, installation of the game.

I won't know until Friday.  I am only able to play on the weekends.

On another note.  After I uninstalled and reinstalled everything, I seem to be getting even better FPS while running even higher graphics settings than before.  Which leads me to my next question.  When you install the game, I noticed that the Max Texture size is 1024 (I was running 512).  Is the Hi-Red pack already installed with the game?
Title: Re: aceshigh.exe has encountered a problem.
Post by: Skuzzy on February 15, 2012, 10:57:23 AM
The high res package is not installed with the game.  It will download it automatically, if you leave the Maximum Texture Size setting at 1024, or higher, if the current version you have is incorrect or if there is none installed.

Could the settings  of  graphic be casuing this? Maybe conflict with some video cards?

Also note, just discovered a bug that could be causing this.

Here is the qualifier.

If you can get the game started, go to online and the game crashes after you login, BUT you do not get the arena list, then remove the "sysinfo.cfg" file from the games settings folder and see if that fixes your problem.

Removing that file worked like a champ. It has been a couple of months since I have been on because of the aceshigh.exe crash. Today was the day I was getting around to try a total deletion and reinstall and decided to take a quick cruise on the board again just in case I found anything new about this crash and came across this post. :aok

Anyone still haveing problems? I am still unlabe to  even get the intro screen to  pop up
Title: Re: aceshigh.exe has encountered a problem.
Post by: Skuzzy on February 23, 2012, 12:17:49 PM
Considering the intro screen is just Windows, and not even the game/DirectX, there is something seriously wrong.

Are you missing a driver, perhaps?  Run DXDIAG and check the video and sound tabs to make sure there is a DirectX driver installed for those devices.

Failing that, I need to see a DXDIAG output before even trying to guess what could be wrong.

Would  having Direct x 11 running effect this?  I can run 2  newer games no problem(Bf3/ SWTor) aswell as  an older Game Empire: Total War.

DX11 has no impact.

Again, need to see a DXDIAG output to start to make any sense of this.  My bet is you have a very corrupt installation of the game or are running some other software that is interferring with the game, or you are missing a native device driver the game needs.

I was having the problem last weekend when I was also having problems getting the .fla files from the servers.  What stopped my crashing (didn't fix the fla problem, that fixed itself), as a complete uninstall of the game then a system shutdown.  Rebooted the system then reinstalled AH.  When I did a reinstall without a reset, I was getting the same problems with the game crashing upon attempting to connect to the login servers.

If the game works offline, then the game is working.  So I am pretty confused.  When anyone says, "the game is not working" all I can assume from that is the fails to start, for some reason.

So if the game is working offline, then I just need to know the specific details of what is going on when you select online and everything after that.

Mosr often than not, the game is being interfered with by a firewall, security suite, firewall, and/or the "sysinfo.cfg" file has been corrupted in the "settings" folder.

Figured out my problem, and I think it was totally different from these guys. When I put directx 11 in it messed up Direct 9 and 10 I guess. I went to directx website and thier update thing for directx 9c and all the less graphic challenging games I had(AH, Mount and blade warband, Empire:Total war)  started working again

I assume your computer is running Windows XP.  As such DirectX 11 is not supported at all and the hacked up versions of DirectX 11 installs for Windows XP are just that.  Hacked up.

No one that supports Windows XP will support DirectX 11 running on it.

When all else fails, after you've tried removing the sysinfo.cfg file and other options Skuzzy has mentioned, you can simply save your settings files and anything else like skins and uninstall the game and do a fresh install.  This is what I did, since Skuzzy found the bug in the sysinfo.cfg file after I had already done this, and it works fine til this day.  I'm actually running higher video settings and getting better FPS than I was before.

I have this problem aswell. Game works fine offline but it stops loading when it says "Terrain Complete". The music keeps playing but the only way to get out of the situation is hitting reset button, alt-f4 or hitting win-key won't work. I've done two fresh installs already with no extra terrain files/settings etc added with no effect. I assume Dxdiag is so far irrelevant as the game itself works. If you need it I'll post it (needs to be posted over several posts due to the character limit). I have Comodo firewall and AH has the permission as it asks that after fresh install and I can get to the log on screen and start loading up the arena. I also deleted the sysinfo.cfg and selected "not this time" when it asked the computer info again, it didn't help.

Sorry Skuzzy, disregard the above. It was my stupid comodo firewall after all. It asks the permission for multiple times for AH too I see. I thought it couldn't have been the firewall since I already gave it permission and it never asked it from  me again and I got to the arena choosing menu. I apparently asked again as the game was loading and I couldn't alt-tab. All fixed now.

Glad to hear it is fixed.  Sometimes a firewall database can get really messed (for lack of a better technical term) and simply dropping the application from the firewall and adding it back can cure a lot of oddities.
