YEAH!!! The same people that made my beloved Lock On are now making a P-51 Mustang. I am assuming that this would be all the luftweenies reaction to the new sim.

Why are you posting this here? Leave poor Skuzzy alone.
I know the search function doesn't always work the way you need it to, but just searching for DCS can get you this: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,328120.0.html
-
So what are you going to do with it? Fly it against A-10s or other P-51s only?
-
From what I read, in the mission, you can fly it along with the A-10 and Blackshark, perform ground attack or whatever. Kinda silly if you ask me, but whatever floats their boat.

I own DCS A-10. Its an impressive write, but the gameplay itself is kind of nonexistant other then as a pure sim.

Survey simulation versus study simulation. 99% of the customers here probably dont want to use that much of their attention to play a game.
-
Survey simulation versus study simulation.
What does this mean?
-
Aces High is a survey simulation with a lot of different aircraft that are detailed in flight model but not in specific cockpit operations. Study simulations go into more detail in cockpit operations and other systems. Study simulations came into being with Janes but entered into their own with the Falcon series (Falcon 4.0) and DCS. DCS in my mind isnt quite at the same level but close enough.
-
Any thoughts on A2A Simulations?

You seem quite knowledgeable about flight sims! Have you ever tried to design one?

Will the 51 in this game be easy-mode too?
Yeah, just run from everything.
-
It depends completely on the mission creator. Best that you make sure you don't tick off your mission creator, because if you do, good luck running from an SA-10. :devil
-
Will the 51 in this game be easy-mode too?
I hear you are required to wear a catheter when flying it, and you must place yourself along with the computer in northern Alaska to make sure the correct high alt temperature experienced are achieved for maximum sim-reality.
I hear in the next version they will require you to have a USB smell-o-vision, so you are forced to smell your stale farts cooped up in a tiny cockpit for 17 hour flights over Berlin.

Sniff..... mmMMmmm aged to perfection.... cough almost..........

PRE-PURCHASE “DCS: P-51D MUSTANG”
DUXFORD, UK, April 29, 2012 – The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics now offer “DCS: P-51D Mustang” as a digital download pre-purchase for $39.99. Pre-purchase also provides access to pre-release Beta versions of the title.
The Mustang was among the best and most well-known fighters used by the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Possessing excellent range and maneuverability, the P-51 operated primarily as a long-range escort fighter and also as a ground attack fighter-bomber with bombs, rockets, and machine guns. The Mustang served in nearly every combat zone during WWII and proved to be what many consider the most successful fighter in history.
The DCS: P-51D Mustang offers both highly-detailed simulation and easy-to-play "game" mode options for both hardcore and casual gamers. When in simulation mode, this is the most authentic simulation of the P-51D Mustang that has ever been done for the PC. Enjoy both the thrill of flying this warbird and operating its various weapons against a variety of ground and airborne targets.
An interactive training system puts you in the cockpit with an instructor as he walks you step-by-step of learning to fly the Mustang.
A powerful yet easy-to-use mission editor allows you to create your own missions and campaigns. A one-click Mission Generator also allows you to instantly create battles as small or large as you wish.
Fly online with built-in server browser that supports up to 32 players in both head-to-head and cooperative gameplay. Fly online with other DCS aircraft like the Black Shark and the A-10C Warthog.
Features of the DCS: P-51D Mustang:
• Highly detailed six-degrees-of-freedom cockpit. Interact with cockpit controls with your mouse.
• Unmatched flight physics and that allow you to truly feel what it's like to fly this legend.
• Accurate P-51D Mustang model, squadron markings, and weapons.
• Detailed modeling the P-51D Mustang instruments, weapon, engine, radios, fuel, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Take part in a Challenge Campaign to test your flying and combat skills.

Also didn't seem like they understood some of the basics of how to get into position on the bad guy you want to shoot down.

I got mine. Should be fun.

Both.
I prefer full sim, myself. Preferably not in Russian, though my Black Shark manual is a bit of both---PIA.

I have the A-10c but I gotta admit looking for other A-10cs to fight does nothing for me. Looking for them while in a P-51 from 1944 will do even less. Its a good program but has serious limitations. With one or two hours a day to play I dont feel like going thru long start up lists just to upp and shoot down Helicopters.

It looked exactly like many AH players do shoot....

I am extremely jealous of those graphics :O :bhead

Well I am sure it won't be fun to do always but still will be hilarious the first time. I wonder if the a-10 will out-turn a p-51...

I agree...
Very extensive studying not accounting for the
Other time learning the mathematics of flight
Simulations as well as getting the
Start up capital maybe even through donations from friends to make a real shot at it.

Looks nice in the proper markings too ;)

Presently working on the specular map right now to reduce the reflectivity from "Terminator 2 Liquid Chrome" down to somewhere near "Bare Aluminum" instead. I haven't worked with colour spec maps, only grey scale ones so it's an education :)

Nice! :)

Do not remember who it was but someone was asking what the gun flashes looked like from in the pit..

The game engine and plane and stuff just might make the task a little more difficult than here to Aces High. Just taking off and landing in one piece might be fun.
I will know in a few days.
A lot of people have purchased this thing in the last few days. Pain in the butt 90 minute individual file downloads, 3 of 'em.
Wonder how many here to Aces High have gone over to play?
I think HiTech should incorporate the DCS: P-51D in Aces High, like CBS Hawaii 5-0 and NCIS: Los Angeles just did a show together. ;)

I call it the spixteen I USED to fly

The offline game always has a start-up cheat as to the A-10c and Ka-50. Some online Multiplayer servers, also have the start-up cheat, depending who is hosting it.
I would think the P-51 will, too. But it is fun starting up the Ka-50 long hand, I have it memorized, takes 5 minutes. Ditto, the P-51 will be fun.
The Black Shark 1st edition is compatible with Flaming Cliffs 2 and all the aircraft within. The helicopter can kill aircraft, quite well.
Guys here knock the DCS guys, they knock you guys---tribe mentality. According to them Aces High is an arcade game. LOL! It is all good, but no central server, no point structure, no perk points, no capture the flag, not too many people to fight except the sheep, and I really miss being vulched. I still die a lot, though. :lol
-
I haven't seen anyone knocking guys from AH and vice versa; both games serve different audiences and do things differently for both sides of the flight sim fence. Heck several of those guys play over here quite a bit from what I know as do I.
-
DCS is a class bunch. In the forum and in the game.

Go read the P-51 forum...

I need a better rig than my current 10+ yo one, when that happens (hopefuly ~ the end of summer or fall) I'll probabley give DCS a spin.

If I have to dig farther than a title into a thread because of some idiot questioning the validity of a their version of the Mustang against the version of the Mustang here in AH then I don't need to know about it.
Different games and different levels of realism; I agree that AH is a pretty good facsimile of a simulation it isn't the best nor is it the worst. It is simply the best MMO for WW2 aircraft at this time and I hope it stays that way but things always move in cycles. DCS may never end up with 200+ players in a single server on a Friday night in 4-6 different aircraft flying against each other. If they do then that would be bad prettythang.
