Just curious. For personal reasons, I quit AH in 2004. My decision was not based on the AH product at all.. great product with a lot of upside. My own agenda drove my decision. I was an "addict" and realized I couldn't achieve my personal goals as long as I had an active online account.
I flew in warbirds when it was pay-by-the-hour and it almost cost me a divorce... silly, huh? I weathered through that period HiTech and Pyro estasblish Aces High. So I migrated over to the skies dominated by the NiK1. I can't remember the exact year but I estimate 1997-1998.
I had so much fun during those years. I made some good friends; some I still communicate with. I was part of the creation of the 56th FG (all Jug Squad) with a guy named Sancho. After recruiting some class act guys the squad enjoyed a lot of success in the MA and the SEA.
So I'm wondering who's still around from "my era"? I have seen a post or two by widewing. I'm at a point when I can afford the time to play and I haven't lost my desire to obliterate an ME109 or FW190. Are any of the old hats still here?
-
Probably don't remember me, but I'm still around and kicking. AH was my first online flight sim/game but I've been around since the early open beta days.
-
Still around flying my B-38. :)
-
I remember you -ammo-. You'd love all the new Jugs here!
What was the name of the imaginary cafe where all the old guys like Dingo gathered and swapped stories The Wingless Cafe run by Debbie or something like that? I used to have a drawing of all the characters hanging around in front of the place - toad, dingo, lessee who else was there?
I had fun in Warbirds and it was a great community- but the pay by the hour drove me to try Aces High and have found a home here. Been in and out of the sim since 2000 I think.
-
Heya Ammo :)
I remember ya, and -divan (my little brother) says hi, as well.
-
I remember you, Sancho, Yucca. Havnt seen them in some time although I dont play as much as I use to. Plenty of peeps from that era still about. Im sure they will pop in and say hello.
Oh I have heard horror stories of the pay by the hour era. Your not the only one who got in trouble. Thankfully I had just missed that. Silat who you probably remember and I were talkin about that just the other day.

I thought I remembered AW's shutdown, and the influx of all the great new players that went along with that. But that wasn't THAT long ago was it?

I remember you from W/B and A/H. The 56th was top of the line back in the early days here. I know Frenchy was back for a while, a few months ago. :salute

LOL at Pipz. Your post makes me feel older than I am.
As I read these replies I remember the names. Pipz, if I remember correclty your ride was a 109F in those days and you knew how to handle it. Yucca was a new addition to the 56th about the time I left the 56th and joined the BKs. He was scary good in a D11.. or any plane for the matter
When I was a kid I had a fascination with WWII aviation. I spent my allowance on testors and monogram model airplanes. I hung "my work" from my bedroom ceiling using my mom's spools of thread...LOL How many of you can relate?
Thanks for the replies fellas. I am this >< close to pulling the trigger on a desktop capable of playing AH and a HOTAS (that was the acronym we used when I was active). I'm looking at a $2K bill and need advice on the best way to go about the transaction
-
well.... what do you consider "old" ?
I too remember LizKing ........ Morrison, is one of my all time favorite singers........ heh...... I like him so much that I have at least used 3 to 5 gameids in reference to the Lizard King or Jim Morrison ( Mr Mojorisin ), over the years......
that AW shut down in Dec 2001...... I was flying Aces High open beta ( or was it closed? ) in nov of 99 and through out 2000, I think it went live in early 2000?, until I left AW for the most part in 2001 around august......
lot of memorys both there in AW and here in AH...... ( not forgeting WB, FA, TR/TK, Janes, MS CF, IL2 )
I think I am an addict! rofl

Good to see you TC.

Ammo
is good to see you too, ammo......
so $2K is your limit you are allowing yourself.......
I suggest you open/start a new thread in the hardware/software forum ....... something like "what will $2K get me, to play AH"
and you will get some good responses....... also post in your opening post that you want your HOTAS included ( and what you prefer? CH, thrustmaster, Satiek, Logitech ) also if you prefer AMD or INTEL........ this will help others piece together a good system for you
hope this helps
edit: also post if you are willing to build it yourself, or if you rather the PC be prebuilt .....

been here since Air Warrior died back in the 90s
AW died in 2001, I started he 2 weeks before they closed the doors over there. I've been here since 10/01 Was Mdjoe for the longest time with the Mafia back in those day.
Welcome back Ammo! Beware, it can still be as addicting !
Check out TilDeaths site here http://www.tdcomputersystems.com/ He's a player who builds computer systems for a living. Many players have one of his rigs and love them.
-
Hey, Ammo! :salute
I, too, experienced domestic conflict when the monthly charge appeared, back in the days of pay-by-the-hour. :lol
In that group picture of the Wingless Cafe, I'm the guy in the flightsuit emerging from under the steps.
-
TilDeath builds nice machines. He has built quite a few for members here.
He's great after the sale too.
-
<<<Old School?
-
Yep,
I've been around since mid 2000 and flew with the Leather Necks, JG44 and then one of the founders of the Claim Jumpers...long live Clammy! It's great to hear some of the dreaded names from 10+ years ago.

Hello, Ammo.
I don't play much anymore, but I remember you and I am still here.

Wow , remember you from the good old WB days, was first save 1997, then -save- then =save= over there.
Didn't you fly in those C130 gunships IRL ?

LOL, I used to do the same thing! Made my own battle damage using a red hot needle (for making bullet holes) and dyed black cotton balls strung together to simulate a damaged engine. Man, it sure was a lot of fun!
-
I have zero room to talk but would to see a gathering of old men telling their stories of yesteryear. Tens year from now I'll have my own yarns to spin.

I thought I remembered AW's shutdown, and the influx of all the great new players that went along with that. But that wasn't THAT long ago was it?
After Airwarrior died where I was /IT\ I had to take a beak due to lack of able machine. I've been here since 02. That was 10 years ago. Define "that long ago."
-
Still kickin around Ammo. Good to see you're back-ish. :salute
-
Few veterans from the early days are left, glad some are still around.
-
Good to hear from the old timers :aok
-
Hi Ammo. just look for all the other losers with "2001" in there forum birth date.
Yes, WBs was a FANTASTIC experience and I still enjoy AH from time to time. When new updates are released I usually re-up for a month or two.

A lot of old names. :airplane:

I feel like I just walked into a retirement home or something for old innernet pile-its :)

I'm chiseled :P

<--MK-84 in AW3 P40 and a26 was what I was best known for.
-
Hey Ammo. I was -augr- in WB and flew with the Royal Knights for Purplandia. None of them are around any more, but I managed to find another group of knights. Good to see you back.
-
I've only been here since '01.
I followed Joe and the rest of the Mafia over after AW was killed.
-
Hello ammo. Nice to see you, i am still alive :D

Hiya Dred. Someone stated AW had died in the 90s. I didn't think that could be right (unless it died, was resurrected, and died again?) because I was in AH when AW's arenas were shut down, and I remember some mass squad migrations over here. I started WB in '98 and came here in 2000 or so.
IIRC there was a squad called "The Damned" which had to be broken into 3 wings because it was so large. Were they from AW?
<S>
-
Hey Ammo good to hear from you again, a few of us old fossils still flying :old:
shamus
-
So I'm wondering who's still around from "my era"?
me . . . for better or worse
-
Well there is a name I remember from way back. I started flying in the beta for AH back in 2000 and then finally made the move full time in early 2001 when the rest of my old squadron LJK moved into AH from Fighter Ace back then.
-
IIRC there was a squad called "The Damned" which had to be broken into 3 wings because it was so large. Were they from AW?
<S>
Yeah the Damned were pretty huge in AW. Like the borg back in the day defending C land when I started with them in the mid 90s. They reformed back into a single group not long before AW died in Dec of '01. Most were already here by March of that year. They slowly fizzled out insofar as actually flying here over the years. A few still remain here.
-
I'm still around Ammo. But I'm slowly finding the number of veteran players have been diminishing greatly.
-
According to my forum birth date I must have been around back then, too. Welcome back :salute
-
Welcome back ammo :salute

Fighter Ace-> WB -> AH -> lurker
-
Howdy Ammo, come back and play, I remember you. I was around from AW pay per hour days and never stopped. Went from AW to WB and then figured out AK was the place to be.
And I've always been Zoney <S>. You remember me perchance?
-
wait what....are we not still in the Beta?
-
IIRC there was a squad called "The Damned" which had to be broken into 3 wings because it was so large. Were they from AW?
<S>
Yes, the Damned originated back in AW in the early 90's I think. I'm quite certain they were in existance in 91-92 when I started flying with the Muskies. Trying to remember some of those venerable old fliers...NoBaddy, Grey Eagle, Mullah, Twist (I think he was Damned), and a lot more worthy of mention to whom, alas, my failing memory does an injustice.

Hey Ammo, I remember you. Welcome back.
I also saw Drex flying the other day. Next thing you know Todd/Leviathan will be back. Or Torque, RAM, or Hristo.
Very few old school players are active anymore, in fact the only name I see regularly still is Soulyss from the 99/2000 days. I'm sure there are a few others, but only a few.
-
OH NOES !!! ... I just may have to dust off the FM2 !!!

Same (AND, drinking Digr's liquor every summer! :salute)

I'm still here from the early days of AH and AW since 1998 until its demise in 2001. I was Flos in AW, in the Kraits in FR and the Hell Gods in RR. :)
-
Welcome back Ammo, I started around 97 under "guns33" I believe it was.... between the cost and deployments around that time I bugged out a while.
Seem to be playing much less now, its lost its flavor for me. Hope you find it refreshing.

<---Another old Damned.
Lurk on the boards. Haven't flown in a long while but still get the itch now and again. Always interesting seeing the evolution of a passion I've had since the late 80's and watching the kids get into the game. :old:
Thank you Pyro and Hitech for keeping the flame alive :rock

A lot of old, old names crawling out of the woodwork -- it's good to see! :)
I started in Air Warrior in 1988 or '89, checked out Aces High at some point prior to Air Warrior's demise, and moved over here fully upon Air Warrior's shut down.
-
Thanks for the replies fellas. I am this >< close to pulling the trigger on a desktop capable of playing AH and a HOTAS (that was the acronym we used when I was active). I'm looking at a $2K bill and need advice on the best way to go about the transaction
Look, you must get a desktop and get back into this game. You owe it to yourself and to future generations. :)
I think that you can get a nice system going for much less than $2k. I recently bought a Dell Vostro 460 (with an Intel i5-2400 CPU) for $550. Then, I bought a GeForce GTX 550 Ti graphics card for $120 ( such as this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125410 ). That gives me 85 fps with all graphics options turned on and maxed out. If you need a monitor as well, for the money, I recommend the Samsung S23A350H (2 ms response time, costs $220 at Newegg.com but is currently available at Costco for $150 ), or the s22a350h (costs $150 at Bestbuy.com). For joysticks and rudder pedals, I always prefer CH Products (a flightstick and pedals will cost you about $200 at amazon.com). So, in total, that setup costs about $1000. With the other $1000, you can buy something nice for your wife so that she doesn't mind you coming back to Aces High! :)
-
I'm excited for you coming back, -ammo-. There is so much more available in the game now, I'd be like a kid in a candy store if I was coming back from such a long absence.
Don't forget to a high quality headset - and e sure to download one of the sound packs and the hires pack when you download the game.
-
Speaking of old guys anyone know what happened to hblair? He lived about an hour from me but hasn't been seen or heard from in years.

Revell B17s an 24s hung from my ceiling along with all the fighters doing battle around them. The Monogram birds flew off the ping pong table aircraft carrier. With all those working parts on those Navy birds, you could have lots of adventures :)
Another old timer here. Started in Airwarrior in 95-96, Flew as Tiffi then +Tiff with the Nomads. Levi was +Dead back then. Seems like lots of old folks still around. Started out in AH as "Slack" then moved on to CorkyJr.
-
Good to see you back in here, ammo! Flying with you, sancho, Frenchy, and the rest of the 56th was a blast!
hblair told me some time back that he was done with flying online. That was several years ago, and I haven't seen him, Milenko, Jekyll, Regurge, or many of the other Assassins in quite a while.
-
Hblair must have dropped off the grid as well because the last email address and phone number I had for him were no go for trying to get in touch with him a few years ago.
-
Soon as I get a new stick next week Ill be back, been lurking on the forums catchin up in the meantime :)

I used to play about 7 years ago. I just watch that movie red tails and it inspired me to order a computer and get back on. Hopefully I'm back on in a week.

Legend has it they were going to start a dating service called "Ewe & Me". It would have come to fruition if they hadn't had the wool pulled over their eyes.
-
Hi ammo, I am still around as well. I was with the 332 Vikings since 2001 and later joined the 56th, but I think you already left by that time. I am currently grounded for lack of a capable machine to run AH on, but I am getting a new laptop in a week (or so) that will get me back into action.

Now that is just bad business! I used to have some sheep babes located all over Knit and Rook lands and I'm getting quite frustrated without finding any relief. I could join the royal order of the Rosey Palm or even worse... Shag my wifey.

Been a long time. I miss you guys, and I miss the good times. Reschke and whoever else my cell is two five 6 three 1 two two two eight 8. I see people do that on craigslist. maybe it works.
I don't think it could ever be as fun as it was, I have too much responsibility now. My daughters in college, got 2 boys 16 and 17. 5 cars on the road. I'm a poor man nowadays. No way I could stay up til 3am flying, get up and go to work at 6:15 the next morning like I used to. That my friends, was addicted. But shooting people down was so much fun I couldn't help myself.
Ack Ack, I did a search on my name and I am quite flattered that you still bring up the "great engine cutting incident". I am smiling right now.
Someday I might just take off from a runway in a 109. We'll see how it goes.
Today I just randomly started thinking of the bimmer board and when several of us went over there pranking the bmw guys. I was classy man. Follow this link for some laughs...

I'd love to meet you guys and shake hands one day. I miss my squaddies. I haven't heard from milenko in over ten years. Those were the days.

Next time I am headed that way hblair lets see if we can get a beer shake hands or vice versa. Check your PM's now that you aren't lurking here so much. Yeah staying up till 3am shooting baby seals is addicted and I am glad that I go to bed at a reasonable hour more than 1 night a week nowadays!

Lets see how far back I can remember. Started AirWarrior on a Commodore Amiga back in late 1993. At that time we were given numbers as callsigns and I cannot remember mine. I was known as TShark and joined BRU (Buffs R Us). BRU then became A.C.I.D (Agents of Common Intent - Destruction) and stayed active in AirWarrior until around 1998. Confirmed Kill/Warbirds came out around 1998 and I joined/co-founded WoD (Wings of Death) with a callsign of Edge (--ed--). I then came over to Aces High around 2003 using the callsign of Edge and now TShark first as a member of Ghosts and currently a member of LCA. Through it all I primarily flew the A6M Zeros. UGGGHHH..think I better sit down and take a nap! :old:

Widewing is still here, but I'm flying under a new handle. I retired from the Trainer Corps, and retired as President of the DFC. Now I just fly for fun with no responsibility... :)

don't know if this counts as 'old school', but I've been w/ AH since at least mid '06 (thats when the earliest name I remember shows up)

Even though my bbs account says 2010, that's cuz my 05 account is gone with the wind. :lol

How old is "old school"?

It's nice to see so many of the old vets still around who truly know the meaning of high fedelity air combat. These newer guys just don't get it.
And ps, just because i joined the bbs in 2012 does not mean I am new, I was flying well before that in mid to late 2011.

:huh :headscratch: :) :rofl :rofl :rofl
-
Reading this thread I realize I'm not as old school as I might have thought. Started in the years of the 21st century. 05/2004? tour 52 and flew as PopPop (Grandson's name for me). I may have flown off line for a while before that? I never flew an online game before this one so I have no comparison to AW.
Was always a fan of WW2 and AH advertising got me to take a look. Sure I flew offline games such as MS flight sims, playstation, Sega, and X-wing/Tie Fighter. But none had the challenge of facing a real life foe. The AI games you learn what to do to beat the computer.
Much like Chess in AH you need to out think an opponent.

:huh :headscratch: :) :rofl :rofl :rofl
You think it's funny huh? You have no place in this thread at all. Heck, you are too young to even be reading it!

Hi Doc.... yeah I know. I may still have it somewhere around but it's not something I could find easily. Otherwise, I AM back, though I never really left. For a while I only played in the scenarios but as these are becoming less frequent during Euro-friendly timezones, I have come back to playing in the MAs again on a regular basis for the last week or so. :) :salute

Old School... Close.. Started AH March of '02... played several years.. Remember many of the names mentioned. I was mdbaker then... Member of and at one time XO and I believe for a short time CO of the 106th VAG. we did a lot of Lanc missions. Had a blast with it. Started into R/C airplanes... got out of AH... now back since Oct '11... Loved the old days, looking to make more memories. Any of the old 106th still around? New handle? I remember flying along side Flossy many a night to capture a base... The old Blue Thunder guys... "Thanks... for the memories......"

Hah, theres an old name for ya! Hiya ammo :P
Used to play as -putl- back in the WB days (Started in 1.04r2 I think it was?), good times; remember your name in the buffer the odd day, but not much more (its been ages) :P Between the changes from WB1-2, messing around with DOA, PR and RW,etc; was alot of cool new things to enjoy when the internet was still young.
Started AH as a bit of a 2 week spaz back in the day, jumping from 2 week accounts to 2 week accounts; enjoyed the beta, didnt fly under a paid nickname till this one. Remembered when RAM's car did a flip on the spanish motorway and posted here about it, small community back then.
PS: Was totally like "ZOMG" when I found out this forum account still worked, lol; epic.
PPS: Was going through some old posts of mine and found this list:
"Nash
Zigrat
Hangtime
Saw
Citabria
StSanta
Ripsnort
Mistu
Torque
Spatula"
Epic names, for epic nostalgia! w00t, lulz

You are :) I was rebuilding an old box for my daughter, found a bunch of old AW stuff from that fateful day. They are archived in amongst a stack of HDs I've got in the computer room. I'll have to sort through and dig those back up.
-
Hi Ammo! I remember you guys flying around in the jugs. It inspired me to learn about wingman tactics! Seeing all these old timers makes me want to jump on again. I have this stupid Iracing bug I cant get rid of.
-
I started around 93, then flammed out in 97? HT paid to fly back then. I started back up about 10 years later.

I was a trainer back in AW. I got to fly for free, but I worked a lot of hours as a trainer, then burned out.

Good to see you.
Blue Knights still around?

I almost divorced and quit around those same times too. But I returned briefly a couple years later. Then I held an account for years without flying much at all untill I realized I'm paying for 0 flight hours / month.

I remember flying with you... and I also had to quit around 2004 for approaching divorce. After that I've been flying on and off - and the latest tour shows I've completely lost my touch. Gunnery is totally lost and for the first time ever I think my k/d is below 1 :)

Dont feel bad. Took me several flights to realize that I had my secondary button set to auto pilot somehow and every time I went to fire cannon the plane would just lock up. I know when Im flying what buttons I use to use, but it takes a few flights to get em all straight lol.

Whats up ammo! Glad to see you are still alive and kicking. :)

Karaya old buddie... You need to get your sorry arse back in the game bro! What is with all you guys that play for ages and join the "Blue Knights", and then you all retire? You guys have some special retirement account or something?
Inquiring minds wanna know...
All the Best...
Jay
Bro, I fly again and am on usually most weekends and the random weekday.

I am still flying here on a limited basis in the last year or so. Life issues concerning my 92 year old father and his failing mental abilities have put me in a position to care for him. It's a full time job and with working full time at home, now, gives me some limited time on squad nights or a scenario frame or 2 here and there.
Good to see some older folks responding. :)
-
...If you don't remember the FUBAR squad active in the "MA" you're new
Good thread. Lots of names I hadn't seen in awhile :rock
If you don't remember kill macros, your new.
<S> Ammo, might just see you in the skies myself soon.

If you remember the Chog being the only plane in the air, yeah... its been a while.

That is no lie. Remember "Torq". Unlike most of the people flying the Chog, that dude was a terror in that thing.

Heater is a whipper snapper. He's been flying online only since the early 90's. Probably couldn't get in there earlier because of his former profession as a US fighter pilot, so I guess there is an excuse for it.
-
Hi ammo!
We must have flown in WB and AH. Your handle sure rings a bell. You must have shot me down often, lol! :D Maybe not, really.
I have ever been with 249, a couple of years in 601, a Tangmere Wing squadron.
Welcome back!

Wow ammo. It's been a while. :aok

Heya Ammo. I haven't lurked here in a while. Cool to see hblair responded. I saw another Assassin, eddiek in the thread as well. A lot of other names I remember too. Good times. Nice thread!

-esme- from Kampgeschwader 2 "Holzhammer" and II/JG2 in WarBirds 2.77 here. I left WB due to unhappiness with WBIII and tried AH for a few months, before giving up on MMOL WW2 combat flight sims for several years. Restarted in AH early 2013.
Can'ty say as i remember -ammo-, but I vaguely recollect Lizking. I don't suppose Epower, Ghost, Hamfst, Target, Learje, Raphael (from WB) or Douwe (from my first spell in AH) are still around? What about Vadr and Daddy from WB2?

I played w/vadr, lizking, and ghosth (not to be confused with ghost). I also flew with daddy. I don't remember your game ID either.
A LOT of folks confuse me with -ammo- from WBII. I flew WB as "ammomn" before transitioning to AH1, where I established the game ID "ammo". I wish I had a nickle for every person that asked me if I was "-ammo-" from WBs. Great guy - he was a gunner on AC-130 gunships in real file. I was an ammo troop in the USAF when I started playing online flight sims, hence the game ID.
-
I guess I would be considered "old school"... :neener: :D
-
Hey -esme- did you ever pop into the DOA arena back in the day?
-
I've been around since 2001 ammo. Anyone remember "Peacepipe"? He was a real Native American that flew circa 2002. I heard he passed away a few years ago. Hope it isn't true.
-
I've been around long enough to remember separated strats, "Check the Churches!", large forests, and radar that only went to 200ft.
Is that considered old school? Or is it only old school if you remember the giant squid and pizza mountain? :D
-
Dunno where the line is drawn Latrobe....when I started flying Warbirds it was 2 bucks an hour :O....and we liked it :x

When I made this post last year, I was missing AH and the folks I flew with and against. So it wasn't meant to be a "measuring stick" or the like - simply wanted to see if any of my old friends or foes were still subscribers. I remember the Pizza map. I think that was one of the first mega maps. I miss Mindanao actually:)
But don't worry Latrobe - old, new, or somewhere in between - you are a killer today:)
-
Don't remember Peacepipe.
Can't find any name resembling to "peacepipe" (in this form an invalid AH name anyway) in the lists from 2001 on.

Almost got a divorce over that! And she would have been justified. I was an E4 with three babies and had NO business paying that for WB's:)

I started PC flying with the first Microsoft flight sim in '92. I also remember Aces over the Pacific. lol

The first one was in 1982. ;)

Even earlier -- 1980 for subLOGIC Flight Simulator on the Apple II. I remember playing it and thinking, "Wow! I can't believe we've entered the age of being able to have flight simulators in our own homes!" :aok

Same here. Computer class was greatness.

Before hard drives, there was F117, one 5 1/4 floppy to start the game, then insert second floppy to play. You could hit the edge of the virtual world and just......stop!
Those were the days :)
<...Agony...>
-
Oh yea, and I remember you ammo, but I thought you were still playing in early 05? you helped me by allowing me to drag along with you on one of the old maps. I think I was Hard7 or A8hunter or something like that back then (I change names more than underwear) . <S> sir.

I started on strike eagle and used to play it when I worked at A.O.P.A. as a flight planner in the early to mid 1980s.
Played air warrior as quisp and attended the 1994 con in chantilly, va and I could swear I attended an earlier convention for an online multiplayer sim in crystal city even before that.
Those early conventions were loaded to the gills with people brimming with knowledge on all facets of WWII airplane gunnery and flight as well as having top notch computer skills which was a requirement at that time or you simply could not gain access.
The typical mouse clicker of today who wouldn't know a modem string from a dos command line is what largely populates the sims now and the lack of a broad base of knowledge shows in thier lack of basic strategy and tactics.
Every year or so, I track down a former pilot or two and post a cryptic message to thier blogs or wherever that is designed to arouse thier curiousity and get them to log in to the game so I can shoot them down.
I got Mburns from the early days of warbirds and Dawn of Aces to show up in the warbirds main arena a while ago (warbirds announced your entering and leaving in the buffer) and quickly made my way over to where he had spawned a ground vehicle but....alas.....he logged before I could get there and deliver pepperidge.
Mburns, Daveed, and Jmuters spent a lot of time fighting head to head in the mid-1990s honing our skills for a planned invasion of the arenas but WB3 was a bit taxing on our machines of the time so it never happened.
I'll try to meet up with Vadr the next time we show up at Kennedy Space Center to do aero testing on the runway...........I think it's vadr who works there.

Man, I miss 'em..... :old: Those were the days! Back then a computer gamer was a COMPUTER gamer. Back when you needed the knowledge and skill to tweek autoexec.bat and config.sys to free up enough conventional memory to load a game (unless you cheated and used QEMM...in which case you should hang your head in shame)! Back in the days when the only GUI you knew was the nasty stuff that accumulated on your tried and trusty gameport Suncom joystick!! Back when you paid $50.00 for a game and it came with a manual the size of a small phone book with tons of great stuff in it you could read for days!
*sigh* The world just seems like a smaller...meaner place now. :frown:
-
Loved Aces of the Pacific, but Falcon 3.0 had to be my favorite! By the way, I was "Rojo" back in the Warbirds days (and Airwarrior, before that), flying with a squad called "The Buccaneers". We all signed up for the AH open beta, and made the switch when AH went pay-for-play. Took a year or two off when I started my music career, but built my dream flight sim rig earlier this year and am now back. I fly with the "Honeybadgers" now.

Started Open Beta around 1999. Ever since I left I am magically drawn back to hitechcreations from time to time. After a long hiatus my sim addiction kicked in again. Upgraded my rig and jumped into Cliffs of Dover (with the Team Fusion patch), IL2-BOS and now DCS: Fw-190D. These games are pretty but far from finished yet so my itch to jump back in the MA grows stronger everyday.
So chances are you'll find and old Luftwobble pushing around his rusty Wuerger online soon...
