Please for the love of god can we have some new maps :pray and a smiley face icon that indicates begging
-
There is a lot of new maps. USRanger has Aton! Just there not big enough for MA use.
-
on any new maps can we have some grass airfields as forward air bases and some railyards or depots.
even if they aren't capturable maybe link them to a normal "zone" base and they turn with the large field. Like the old strats but you could spawn from them or attack them.
-
Maps for the MA have very specific requirements / limitations. Which is why the AvA and SEA maps can't be used in the MA. As for new maps most of the maps in the MA are player created. Always looking for more people to download the Terrain Editor and take a stab at things.
-
just add better spawn points to the maps we have.. problem salved ?
beats trying to get new maps approved for the game. is this possible? :bolt:
-
you can send a map, 2 weeks for validation :noid

The original creator of the map has the source files and has to add/alter anything about the terrain. Then it needs to pass the Terrain Editor checks and then final approval by HTC.

Depending on the size and complexity of the map, and the workload at HTC, it could take more or less time. But, once the terrain passes the Terrain Editor checks, you can upload it for use in Custom Arenas without HTC involvement. Then everyone can see it and use it in custom arenas (or offline once it's downloaded locally).

ty sir.. sounds like my idea is unrealistic.

exactly my thoughts.
and before anyone says "players make maps, why dont you get started on one", they dont. but I'll be happy to if HTC can cover my job while I work on the new maps ;)

I'd like to hire myself out to HTC. I'll work for $20 an hour and do nothing but create new maps for the MA. Call me !
-
I would really like some new maps, but more specifically I want DIFFERENT maps for the MA.
Each map in the MA we have kinda all follow the same guidelines, I wish for more variety.

Download the terrain editor and give it a go. Be sure to read up on what you can and can't do when building for the MAs.
To date no one has really wanted new terrains enough to actually even try to make one.

Last year I started one for the main arenas; just haven't had lots of time to work on it, so progress is slow.
I did complete a small one for non-main arenas called "canyon" but it wouldn't be fun with 400 people in it. ;)
-
I submitted an MA map called CraterMA around a year ago but have not heard anything from HTC about it since then. If anyone wants to have a look at it you can download the latest version here:- CraterMA map (http://www.gfg06.dial.pipex.com/screenshots3/craterma7.zip)
Just extract the files into your ahiiterr folder and you can use it offline. Thinking about it, the "pln" file is from a year ago and won't have the last year's new planes and GVs enabled at the various fields. However if you rename or delete this file you can then up any ride from any field.
It takes about 45 minutes from the arena starting for all the cloud systems to deploy fully. The weather includes permanent low cloud cover for all the TT bases. Also there is a volcano near A82 which vents some steam periodically, the first time is at around 10-15 minutes after the arena starts IIRC.

See rule #4
you were right, they didn't like it :lol
-
So the game is basically - Pay to play and if we want new terrains we need to make them ourselves? Provided the people we pay approve them?
Maybe if they gave an incentive more paying customers would help them build a better game?

I am not trying to jump on you, but think a little how things really are. I am only stating very simple realities and they are not meant to be in an angry tone if they come off that way.
You pay to play Aces High in it's current state, we do not claim to give you any more for your payments then delivering the service/and product in it's current state. You may choose to continue to pay us for the our service in it's current state or not.
Some times we choose to change our software in a manor we believe will serve our customers better. Again if you accept the changes you can continue to pay, if not you can leave. We obviously make changes that we believe will better serve the most customers.
Of the 13 terrains in the Late ware rotation, HTC has created 6 of them.
If a player is to the point that they believe they are board because there are not enough terrains in rotation (with 13), I believe that it is not the terrains that is causing the board-em but rather simple burnout.
We have created tools for players to add content to the game if they wish.
Currently there are a 51 terrains available. The only terrains that HTC must approve are those meant to be used in the main arenas.
We do not ask players to create terrains for the main arenas. They do it simply because they enjoy it. If we believed that there was a great need for more terrains in the main arena we would make them. Many times we modify all the terrains used as we change strat play, such as with the city changes.
HTC has limited resources both monetary and personnel. It is always a balance of where, how much, and when we allocate these resources. So if someone is asking us to spend more money or time on something, we must see an investment return on what they are asking for and then decide what it's priority is of the list of things to do.
We appreciate player contributed content. But players work on the content as a hobby, they choose when and what they wish to make. They choose if they wish to finish the content or not. They choose if they wish to distribute the content or not. The hours put in are for enjoyment, not for monetary value.

I would have added, if you do not like what is in the current list, then download the terrain editor and have a go.
I have worked on a terrain for over a year, had it working pretty good with one bug I could not find, system crash wiped it all out. Have not had time to start over.

PS: was a 512 by 512 Pearl Harbor map with Tokyo Bay in the north east corner.
all of the Hawaii's island included

Johnny, you're only paying $15 a month to play all day, every day, if you choose. That's not a lot of money for that many hours of entertainment. A movie ticket cost $12, most sporting events and other forms of entertainment much more. How much do you want for your $15?!!!!
Do the math, if there are 1,000 AH members paying $15 a month, that's $15,000 a month in gross revenue. Deduct all the salaries, rent, utilities, insurance, overhead, advertising, Skuzzy's company car and all other applicable business expenses and you're left with little or no profit.
C'mon man, use your noodle!

:salute i would like to see desart and winter maps. after all we have the skins to go with them. also no need to rub that crap into his face hitect covered it quit nicely. :salute

Could simply modify the maps to suite different schemes, such as desert or winter. its not like making an entirely new map, just the same ones in different colors! :rock

And you know this because you have made a number of maps your self, correct? Switching terrain tiles isn't as easy as you think. Download the editor and try building a small map to see what is involved before you start spouting off.

I respectfully disagree with you. When you have played for over a year you notice that any map your on, you can almost guarantee where the battle is being played out on that given map due to spawn points terrain etc. This gets a little redundant after a while sir, still fun but redundant all the same. A couple of new maps thrown into the rotation and maybe a like number taken out once a year would help with this redundancy. :salute

A player's approach to the game does more to fight boredom and redundancy than any new map would. With a new map, you get different landmasses, but the bases are the same, the players are the same and the gameplay is the same. Try to stir up something new and different rather than the same old horde-on-horde smash-and-grab base captures.
Find a friend and wing up in a plane you don't fly often. Do some fighter sweeps, fly aerial observer for GV fights, fly escort for bombers, pretend you're in WWII and fly certain profiles and see what happens. If you're bored, it's more your fault than the terrain's fault.
One of the latest big maps was Grinder. How long did it take to become bored with it, with the same gameplay as on every other big map?
-
I just realized this would be taken the wrong way, disregard :)
-
Imadot
I did not say I was bored. I went to great length's to say it was still fun but redundant at times.
I actual resent the implication that I fly in hordes. Anyone who fights against me knows they will never catch me in a horde or ganging a single ac with multiple ac. unless its fester and that guy ya got to shot down asap if possible, any way you can :t
I do mix it up quite a bit as a matter of fact new thing Ive been doing is pushing the FM2 to the edge of its attack capability which as it turns out is quite significant.
My original thought stands new terrain would be nice everyonce in a while in MA. especially a winter map that would be great.
But as Hiteck him self has already weighed in on the discussion and basically said wish DENIED then I guess its a mute point :) Thank you for replying to the thread HiTec.
-
surfinn, sorry if you read my comment as stating you flew in hordes. My comment was meant to say that the current play style seems to be horde on horde and if people tried something different that might change. My thought behind the statement was to try and see what would happen if enough people did something different from the majority that overall play might be more interesting and appealing to the masses.

GVers getting bored with maps makes sense to me. Same few places that develop into fights, same hills, same trees, that makes sense to me because how the terrain around a base is laid out impacts your experience significantly. That's a good reason to make a new map to me.
Other than the map with the giant ranges of mountains splitting the default country positions, what difference does it make how the map is laid out for people who fly primarily? Regardless of the map, you up, fly to an enemy base, and take it. How does it make a difference how the maps are laid out? What about a different map would improve the experience of upping, flying to an enemy base, and taking it?

Agreed Imadot
Horde on horde or horde period, Is defiantly a detractor from the game. Reminds me of LEEEEEROOOOOOYYYYYYYY. However this wasn't a horde complaint thread for me any way just a wish for something new.

I never said any such thing. To the wish for a new terrain.

To chime in hear I believe what HiTech is alluding to is that with limit resources and staff they have to prioritize their work. Basically they focus their resources on what would have the most positive impact on game play. Examples of this is creating new planes, adding 88mm guns to bases, adding the 17lb anti-tank guns and so forth. Creation of new maps for the MA have a lower priority not that they won't eventually do them just that their are other things, as HiTech says, that have a bigger ROI.
In the mean time they have created tools for players to create content themselves if they are not willing to wait for HiTech. If one wants to create a winter map, one can while HiTech goes through their list of other numerous programming tasks they are focusing on that take precedence over them making a winter map.

I think changing how the spawn points work would go a long way toward changing that. As it is now it is rather easy to predict where the GVs are going to spawn and so it becomes "shooting fish in a barrel". If the spawn point was opened to cover a mile radius or so the spawn camping would be broken far easier as spawning tanks would spawn out of site of the campers and be able to swing around and flank the campers. With the extra movements for the flanking you would be using more and more terrain to find spots the work. It could also make spawn camping hard enough that tank battles may move out to ambush spots in between spawn points and bases using more terrain.

With the spawn camp being used as much as it is, and in another thread I saw HT say the size of the spawn is just an arena variable, I'm a bit surprised they haven't bumped it up just to see how it goes. It seems to me a pretty low possibility for bad things to happen, and a pretty high possibility to improve peoples' experience. What's the worst that could happen increasing it? The occasional spawn on a cliff in certain spots?
Wiley.

The problem with enlarging the spawn area is that all the spawn points on every MA map would have to be checked for bugs. Any SP that crosses a steep slope or that touches water would have to be repositioned or the land altered to suit. This would not be a trivial job, there are hundreds of SPs on some of these maps.

I don't believe that the environment is stale because of the maps that are in rotation. I do believe with the current numbers in the MA that many of the maps are unplayable in their current form. If we're going to stick to a large single main arena, we should have large maps. I still say that going to a two team system and have the login server auto-ballance players who are not assigned to a squad (and squad registrations for team slots each month), we'd be able to bring in a ton of the great FSO maps into the rotation without the need of developing new ones from the ground up. Many of those maps were designed with the large (400+) player count FSO gets and would easily stay filled by the MA numbers the game gets.

FSO maps are designed for a two-sided enviroment. The MA is a three sided enviroment that requires equal resources, bases and a balanced terrain.

Did you ever ask yourself why the non-event MA is set up as a three-sided arena?
(psssst ... it's kinda a balance thang)

Wow... you're two for two on mentioning things that I brought up specifically in the post you're responding to. You're on a (t)roll!

Server auto-balancing? Really?
Meh. If you can't take a response that doesn't give you a huge thumb up .... use your own thumb. :D

Not looking for a thumbs up... both your reasons for why FSO maps wouldn't work in the MA were addressed in the post you responded to. I was merely pointing out you should both read and comprehend something before responding. But that's not how you get to Plutonium status now is it... :devil

*sigh* A two-sided system with server auto-balancing may seem like a wonderfully straightforward and logical suggestion to you and it's not like you're the first to ever suggest it. Do you not wonder why it wasn't universally adopted in all arenas and not just AvA and events? Before you let your feelings bruise to the point of complete incapacity ... consider this: a double front offers more diversity. Balancing is already designed into it.
The MA is not an historical arena in any way shape or form. If it was, you'd never see a Pony fight a Pony (or any specific model of plane fight another model of it's own nationality or allied nationality). This is all obvious talk.
Your 'solution', when it comes to maps, is to alter the basic design of the MA. But there's nothing stopping anyone from submitting more huge three-sided, balanced maps. I can't help but think the latter option is more practical. *ShruG* Have a nice day. Or whatever :D
