Title: Diablo III is almost here!
Post by: Volron on May 11, 2012, 11:25:04 AM
 :x :x :x

My CE version is waiting for me.... :x

I'm still not too sure which class I will start with. :headscratch:  I may start with a Demon Hunter, but the Wizard may win out.  The Monk looks like a lot of fun as well, but ye can't beat the good ol Barbarian's hack and slash fun either! :x

I think i'm going to start with the monk, but yeah. With 5 classes and 10 years without a Diablo fix, it's a tough choice!  :rock

What else does the CE have above the non-CE?  I might pick one up at Frys this weekend if I get the motivation.

I got to play in the beta for a bit and i loved the Witch Doctor or the Sorc for my first toon...still havent decided. I will be playing as soon as servers are up.  Already got a 3 day pass from the better half so gonna be a hoot. :rock :rock

I'm all ready to go.  A lady Demon Hunter will be my first class.  Then either a monk or wizard.  I probably wont ever try the witch doctor, seems like a stretch for a character.  I'd rather have seen a necromancer.

Any bets on expansion characters?  I'm thinking a Templar, Druid, and/or I bet some sort of "converted" demon (half goat/half human variant).

My son has been dieing for this game for years. He is going to start out as a monk and expand from there. Oh, did I mention that he planned a vacation for the week and has already reconfigured everything on his computer (he's a computer nerd working for a security software company) to be optimized for playing this game. He plans on laying in supplies this weekend for the "marathon" play he expects to get caught up in.   KIDS!

of course if I could swing it I'd do the same for Aces High  :devil

We should band together and have an Aces High Diablo III group.

What else does the CE have above the non-CE?  I might pick one up at Frys this weekend if I get the motivation.

CE version simply comes with an Artbook, soundtrack, Diablo II and the Lord of Destruction expansion in it's own usb drive, and a dvd/blu-ray of the making of it (world, characters, etc.).  Originally I wasn't going to get the CE version, but I figured why the ell not?  Plus it comes with D2 and LoD, which is actually what tipped my decision in favor of the CE version.

I'm leaning heavily towards the Demon Hunter because of her range ability (use of crossbows).  My first character in D2 was the Amazon, and the Demon Hunter reminds me a bit of one, an Amazon/Assassin hybrid to be honest.  I did also enjoy playing the Assassin in D2, simply because it was challenging.  She wasn't a Trapper and was a HC char, and the REAL fun began in Hell Mode. :devil  The ONLY Normal (SC) char was my Amazon in fact.  I instantly went to HC after I beat it on SC.

IF anyone is willing to do HC, then I'm game.  Of course, this will be after we beat SC. :)  Since there is a midnight release of it going on here, I'll be picking it up right off.

It sounds like the hardest difficulty, Inferno, will be nigh impossible on Hard Core.
Title: Re: Diablo III is almost here!
Post by: Volron on May 12, 2012, 01:17:41 PM
Yeah.  It was mentioned to not even TRY Inferno with an HC char....  Two words:  Challenge Accepted. :D  The tricky part will be to survive Hell long enough to reach level cap, unless they gear it towards you having to go through Inferno in order to reach the cap within this Solar System's life time. :noid

I can't afford it but BETA playing would suggest that the monk class will be a pain to play for some time. *hint*

Spinnich and I will be doing a run through on normal soon as his arrives (mine was shipped Saturday). I'm not one of the people who does perfect "elitist" characters so I never did much HC. :P

Long as I have fun, I'm down for most any play-through though. Spinn has called Monk for first run through and I'm going Wizard (Sorceress), mostly because of the voice actress being same as Nova Terra. :D

I really doubt that they will...

UPDATE -  If you bought the Digital DL version you can now download the game( took me abt 40 min and there is some awesome story/history and art to see during the DL).  servers go live at midnight PDT!!!

First person to start it at midnight report if there is a patch for it. :P
SCII had a patch out by 1am on release date, so confusing to install it and start it up and see "installing update" at 1am!
Should have mine on the 16th (CE shipped from Cali).

Already have mine.  Showed up 30 mins early for a midnight release and 4 minutes after midnight, I was driving away with CE in tow. :D

EDIT: So I get it installed, everything is ripped and ready to go.  I look at my clock, "Okay, I'm only 12 minutes late..." *logs in*  Error 33...it seems I'm jumping the gun.  SLOWEST....hour.....EVER...  :bhead

EDIT the EDIT:  Oh for the love of...  These are not mere minutes...these are HOURS, with an X10 tagged to em. :bhead

If you haven't kept up with Blizzard news, or their twitter, the errors are normal. They are having Server Issues due to the millions signing on in such a short period of time. They had to put in a time limit to log-ins per second. They've been expecting it and have been up-keeping the servers sine about 7pm last night due to it. :P

:lol  I was well aware of what was going to happen when it went live.  When I finally got on, there were (at the time I checked, this was about 10-15 minutes after going live I may add), only 350 or so people in public games.  At this moment, there are 12k+.  It is fairly early in a Tuesday.  I expect some trouble come Friday night, where I'm expecting to see just a few more :noid

On another note, Volron and Sanders you know you're free to use our Mumble Server for multiplayer. Anyone else here playing Multiplayer that wishes to is free to use our Mumble Server. It's a 50-user Voice Program (like Vent or Team Speak).

Am I missing something?  I was watching a gameplay vid to see if it looked interesting and it looks like a game from the 90's....3rd person view hack and stack?

The trailer looked awesome but the actually game doesn't look fun at all...I guess I was expecting more of a Elder Scrolls 1st person view with good graphics.

It's a good, casual game.  I know for myself it's got the benefit of being simple enough that both I and Mrs. Wiley can enjoy and play it together.  It's not a 'great' game, but it's a decent overlay for a loot table.

Everyone who bought a CD copy SHOULD have gotten around 10 free promo codes to share that allows people to play what was released in the BETA (Up to a skeleton or something?).

I played the original Diablo and enjoyed it, way back...  I'm going into my busiest time of the year, work wise.  My game time will be broken down into smaller chunks then normal.

Is Diablo 3 a single player game with a multiplayer option?  And, if it is a single player game, can you pause it at any time?

I was thinking about picking it up, but don't want to if it is only a multiplayer game.

It's single player with multiplayer features.  One major downside is that you always have to online when you play regardless if you're only playing single player.

You can play alone, same as the other Diablos.  As stated, you've got to be able to connect to Bnet's servers to play.  I don't know if you can pause a single-player game, but it wouldn't surprise me if you can't.  The upside is, it's pretty easy to be safe, town portals don't cost anything anymore so you can just return to town if you need to pause.

As to the promo codes, yes you get a stack of the damn things.

I will say Regular mode is regular mode, you can die as much as you want - me and Volron basically sprinted to beat Diablo last night and did, now we entered Nightmare mode. Both level 32 Demon Hunters.
Nightmare mode is after you beat the game on regular mode - you lose the training wheels, if you die - you die - you lose everything in nightmare mode. So far despite the problems Blizzard had Diablo 3 is 6 stars out of 5.

Started a Witch Doctor for my 2nd toon, so far I like the change from the Demon Hunter, which by the way was an awesome class to start from.

the Demon hunter is great for stand off attacks, higher levels it can do some serious damage, was just passing 700 dps at Diablo, makes me wish I stuck around to gather some more gold/items in training wheel mode.

Yeah, that's HC.  In SC, you can die as many times as you want and you'll be fine, minus the expense of having to repair your gear.  It's not as "hard" as D2 was, in when you died in SC mode there, you lost xp and gold as well as having to repair stuff (which gold was COMPLETELY useless is D2 except for pots and repairs).  The XP bit wasn't an issue IF you ran all the way back to your body or if you were with some folks and they opened a portal at or near your body.  HC is the same in both, of course.  You die, you are dead dead.  For HC mode, I know in D2 you could have it set so that certain folks in your game could loot your corpse if you died in HC.  You could retrieve everything you had equipped except what was in your inventory slots (lost a few charms which some were VERY hard to get).  I'm curious if they allowed that same option in HC in D3.  I would think they would, but won't know until someone joins me in HC mode. :headscratch:

FedEx was....slow. Finally got mine earlier today.

Got 3 "invite" keys as per usual with Blizzard. If anyone wants one you're free to it, just send a PM.

I've got three invites if anyone wants them as well.  Just shoot me a PM with the name of the sexiest fighter of WW2 and it's yours if you provide the correct answer.

*UPDATE* All gone to the winners.

At least 19 people sent me PMs and out of that only 4 got the correct answer.  I mean come on, wasn't it obvious the answer was the P-38?

 :rofl  Yes, it was obvious!

How can any red blooded male not see the front view of a P-38 and not think those two spinners look like boobies!  And those twin booms are long sexy legs!

I mean hello...  It was quite obvious!

And thanks Ack-Ack for the code.  I appreciate the chance to check the game out before I fork out the money for it.   :salute   :D

Beat normal yesterday.  Ran through it with a friend doing 100% clears of each map.  Took us about 27 hours.  Difficulty was a bit more even than in Diablo II, though I do think it is a bit harder having recently (last month) played through normal and nightmare in Diablo II.  We were both 32 at the end.

We're going to, at a slower pace, play through Nightmare with an additional friend.  Having done a Wizard (me) and Demon Hunter, we'll add a Witch Docktor now.

My box laughs in the face of you puny game cases! :P
I run around all wingaling like with White-dyed armor. "I'm the White mage, and no one f^%$s with the white mage".

Spinnich, myself and his friend aren't far in yet, we are about to start looking for the final sword fragment.
Soon as we beat it I'll likely start a new run-through with whoever feels like joining.

Also, still have 2* Trial Invite Codes sitting around, likely to have 2 more later (will know in a few hours). If you want one, first come first serve.
*Edit: 1 remaining from mine.

I was excited when I heard Diablo 3 was coming ..

..then I saw the trailer.

Just could not buy into all the hype about a reworked Diablo 2.
I was expecting first person, Unreal engine at least, immersive environment.

I mean .. next they'll rework Asteroids as 'the next big thing'  .. LOL.
Or mebbe Pong.

That sounds absolutely horrible and not a Diablo game.  Glad they didn't try to do anything like that.

Oh good, thanks Wiley.  Downloading the client now.  Glad to hear it can be paused.  I need a game that I can stop when the phone rings and I have to actually work for a few minutes.   :D

I'd play it then. First person makes it easier for me to immerse myself into the game. Give a third person (or w/e you call what it is now....re-formed side scroll? lol) option and a first person.  :aok

people were still playing diablo 2 ten years after release, it obviously didn't need to be re-worked into a new format

in other news, hell is bloody hard in places!

extra health waller jailer mobs = no big deal

arcane teleport mortar = aaaargh

Funny thing is...  I loved D1...  I can remember several long weekends where I hauled my computer to a friends house and set up a LAN network so we could play through it together.  Bought D2 the day it came out, but never really could get into it.  Had a lot going on in real life at the time, so maybe that's why...

Easy mode is easy mode, myself and Volron beat D3 only dying twice on belial and diablo, however we both entered hardcore and will head to Hell and Inferno after.

The game is tailored to all players, if you want to die a hundred times and see no fun, then EZ mode is the way to go.

Hardcore mode is simple: you die, you die, kind of like comparing Main Arena in AH to FSO.

I certainly am enjoying hardcore mode, gives me a better interest in the game since softcore mode is rather no fun at all, one good reason is their really isn't much of a challange, a 6 yr old can beat it.

I checked some stats on Hell/Inferno - you best to beat it a few times before venturing into this area.

FIXED :)

Hell was never an issue when you had others with in you D2.  Played it smart, and it was actually quite fun and surprisingly easy.  IF the hype they have been giving about Inferno is true, then the fixed statement may very well be true. :noid  However, until we get there, we won't know. :aok

It's what people said about diablo 2 also, yet I had a 97 pally and a 94 cold sorc out of a level cap of 99 that solo'd hell with ease. I'm not so sure about Inferno this time around though.

You far out leveled the content in Diablo 2 then as the content capped at something like level 70.  You could also level in Diablo 2 by grinding lower level content.  Even at level 98 killing a zombie or fallen just outside the Rogue camp on Normal would give you an experience point.

In Diablo 3 the Inferno difficulty is set to be just over level 60, the highest you can get.   This prevents out leveling the content.  Also killing things more than 5 levels below you yields no experience, making it impossible to massively out level the content.

So I played through to the skeleton king with my trial account. I first made a wizard, and found it slow and difficult (still have not beaten the skeleton king with him) so I made a barbarian and made it to/killed the skeleton king within an hour and a half. I found the barbarian much more enjoyable for a diablo noob like myself. I didn't have to worry about kiting groups of NPCs, I just busted in there and kicked posterior. I don't think I'll end up buying the full version - cool game though.

my only wish is the game was a little bigger, its far to easy to fly through each act and complete it, now saying this I can see why there is 4 types of game modes, Softcore to Inferno.

I'm in Act 3 on hardcore and enjoyed surviving belial with 3% health (majorly screwed up on my part).

The kicker, I didn't even notice your HP bar drop that low. :(  I was honestly expecting to have more than a couple close calls, seeing as my resistances are still in the single digits. :noid  But I didn't have to use a pot during that fight.  He was being generous with the globes. :)  My life steal REALLY helped, and when you tagged him with mark and I dropped Earthquake, his HP melted. :devil

How does Diablo keep people's interest after beating the game? Is there anything to do after you make it through all of the different acts and difficulties?

There is suppose to be PVP and more Acts coming out, for now just trying to survive Hardcore is enough to keep one interested, I imagine it being like Warcraft with a dozen expansions and BS.

Got another friend who is pretty ticked about it too. Glad I didn't waste my time on it.

There is one guy going around and hacking every person he comes in contact with. They banned his account and it got unbanned and now he's doing it again.
