This is another Blue Nosed Bastard skin that I would like to see, I discovered it the other day.
Here is what a restored replica looks like

I would love to see this appear as a skin fellas Thanks. I count at 19 kill markings on the side.

for POTW only

I think we used to have this skin before Cripes A' Mighty( AH 1? ). Great looking bird but I doubt we'd get to see her unless they expand the skin limit again.

Why? There is room for 13 more P51D skins, right now.

12 Fencer submitted the 39TH FS pony D :O

I would like to see Punchy Powells "West By Gawd Virginian", another 352nd skin.

Just a guess but with the amount of units that can be represented it doesn't seem logical to have two from the same squadron given how popular the P-51 is. Am I wrong? We've been waiting to see Fencer's 39th bird for years now. Oboe had had quite a few great looking Ponys he did.
And for the record I love the 352nd 51's so two is fine by me.

Currently there are already two from 352nd, Mus51's "Dopey Okey" just made it in.

Those open slots could be filled very quickly, I fear. Will your new process make rotations easier?
An early model D w/o the tail fillet and a bird cage B model would help a lot, and skins could be put on the historically accurate airframe,
-
Rotation is very, very difficult. In every instance we have tried to rotate skins, we have gotten grief from squads and players alike about us dropping their 'favorite' skin. I cannot design a system that will make it easy to do. The number of potential places for error are too high. In hindsight, we should have never accepted any overflow.
I hope to get away from the entire idea of rotating skins.
-
Since rotating skins never seemed to really get off the ground anyway, it doesn't matter too much to me if its not implemented. It wasn't really happening anyway. It sounds fair enough in theory, but just never made it operationally as a regular practice.
It does still leave us with a hard cap for skins though. I think the Mustang slots will fill up fast. And that encourages skinners to submit alot of skins, quickly done. once they get a skin accepted, they basically "own" the slot. And it may discourage skinners who go slow and do a great, highly detailed job - by the time they are done, the slots have filled up and their work has been wasted.
An obvious solution would be to allow players to manage their own skins - they choose and download the skins they prefer, and plug them into an aircraft's 32-slot skin list themselves. I like this idea because it removes the skin cap, and allows players to customize the game somewhat to their preferences.
This may be a dumb question, but would a flat-out skin delete be easier than an update? In other words, separate a skin rotation into two consecutive skin pack releases - in the first release, the old skin is deleted. Then in the next skin release, the new skin is added. Does that ease any of the nightmare conditions involved in doing a skin update/rotation?
-
There is no solution to the problem of players adopting a skin for use and then stopping them from screaming when it is removed.
I am not going to get into the complexities of implementing a free-for-all skin system where the players can install any skin they want. We have what we have, so we will work within that framework.
-
Unless you give them control of the skins themselves, but I understand what you mean.
Another idea would be to add an early build P-51D without the tail fillet and a birdcage P-51B, effectively doubling the skin slots for the P-51s. What I like about this is that the skins would be more historically accurate and could be featured on the exact type of model used in real life. The P-51 is one of those late model US planes with lots of colorful schemes - another 64 skin slots would help alleviate much of the pressure; might even be enough. Though I think they would still fill up. But at least its an idea that works within the constraints of the existing framework.

I forgot about that one. Good looking skin.

I think there should be some kind of quality control for skins, where folks from the skinner team accept or reject them.
