Giday.
Not sure if this topic is in the right section or not but i am wondering and would appreciate some fighter training , advice or help. I fly the Niki , 109 and spit 16 all guns ranged at 375
A few things need help with.
lining up the shot and getting hits on target , tend to be all over the place at times.
Picking lines to attack from.
Also getting cons of my 6 a major issue.

Welcome to Aces High.
This is definitely the right place to ask for help.
Lining up a shot asks a few questions. For instance, the distance to target, the flight path and speed of target and the lead you must give to land shots.
There is a handy training aid (can't remember the name) you can use offline and in the TA, which will place a green cross where you need to aim
for hits to be successful. Use it for a while, it will help, then turn it off. Try and think where the green cross would be. Repeat the on/off practice until you get a good idea of where you should aim. It takes awhile to get a "sight picture" but keep practicing.
Lines of attack also asks questions. In 1v1 it is important to create angles. Head on is 0 angle. Avoid this.
Try and create some separation before the merge, either horizontally or vertically...combine both if you can.
I try and think of how much room I need to turn and be on the 6 of the target. Head on gives me no room and worse, I am in the targets guns.
The room you need will depend on your speed and the speed/direction of the target. More questions arise because pulling G's in a turn will bleed energy, maybe so much so that you find that you can't keep pace with the target. There are ways to conserve energy in an attack. If co'alt/speed try and experiment with low and high yoyo's but be sure to have some separation first. Try and think in 3D
You will get shot down in thousands but don't let it get to you. Keep flying and asking, reading. Have fun!
Getting cons off your 6 is really to do with where you put your plane. Your SA will build over time and will tell you who's a threat and who's not.......yet! Get to know your plane, chuck it about all and everyway, dive till it compresses, practice recovery/pull out and then fly it slow and make it stall. Stalling and recovery are essential tools. Do not fly straight, use barrel rolls, scissors and snap roll to change direction.
Estimating your opponents energy is a key aspect of staying offensive. Learn about creating an overshoot for him and avoiding one yourself.
There are many more experienced and better players who will add to this I'm sure.

Try checking out the training section linked on the main hitechcreations website for aces high; some of the information is dated but most of it is sill and will always be relevant.
Work on your situational awareness for trying to keep people from sadaling up on your six or from getting a great angle on you when you dont *want* them to (as you will learn, sometimes you do want to give the enemy an angle just long enough to reverse them).

Also, Agent360's films are amazing for looking into more advanced ACM moves that you will eventualy need to learn or will discover yourself when throwing your plane around to its limits enough times. These films work with the aces high film viewer, and though they are mostly used for 109pilots, the principals still work in many planes. The best part is the narrated films, of which he does an outstanding job!

Dont be afraid to get shot down, it's just a cartoon pilot and you'll only learn by getting into fights, not running from them. With that said, you will also learn when the odds are too against you that you'll need some seperation from too many boggies to "safely" ingage the enemy. Others will likely add their advise on this :cheers:

The lead calculating gunsight is enabled by pressing ctrl and tab,this enables friendly lock,then press tab when you have your target inview and the crosshairs will appear!
In offline mode goto arena settings,find flightmode flags and select change,the check the box that says lead calc gunsite and follow the commands above.

Best advice I got on gunnery was this. (This was a good way that helped me get better at gunnery)
Target is 200 away, lead them by 1 plane length.
Target is 400 away, lead them by 2 plane length.
600 = 3 plane length and anything beyond that you'll be wasting ammo.
The icons never tell you when they're 100, 300, or 500 away which all add another half a plane length to lead, but over time you should be able to tell just how far away they are even without icons.
Of course this only works some of the time, your angle of attack and speed can change everything. If you're closing on your opponent with more speed then you don't need to lead as much since it will take your bullets less time to reach them. And vice-versa, if you're slower than them you'll have to lead them more.
Eventually, with enough practice, you'll be able to see your opponent and instantly tell how much energy he has, where his flight path is taking him, and how much lead you will need. You'll subconsciously be picking a specific part of the sky in front of them and, like magic, your rounds will be landing hits on them.

In this case you probably want to use the term "aspect angle" which refers to the angle between your flight path and your target's flight path.
Many things, including your own maneuvering, affect how much you need to lead the target on their predicted flight path which is why the lead computing sight Klam mentioned is such a useful training aid.

I have been a member for a few months now manly spending most my time in a GV but GV`ing is only one very small part of the game. In regards to the green cross yes i have come across that in the TA and used it before in lining up on practice bombing runs and mock GV trading at the point i need to drop at for a successful kill also when firing rockets etc and been helpful.

My time zone is (Brisbane Australia) think it is roughly 16 hours time difference if FSO for example 10pm Fridays it`s 1pm Saturday here I would diffidently be interested in some training (time maybe to early on my end with your times your available) but I am on alot of the time mornings and evenings Australian time.

Ah, thanks for the correction. I always mix up angle of attack with aspect angle (had just woke up too). What I posted was what worked best for me, it may work for others and it might not. Klam's way is the better way to go. I was just throwing my thoughts out there. It's a good thing (or at least I think so) to have multiple options to choose from. If one way doesn't quite work for you, then try a different approach.

When you get in a new situation, or get excited you tend to tense up and hold your breath. This in turn leads to a death grip on the stick which leads to over controlling. Over controlling, ruins aim and bleeds E.
...why do I feel like I just typed a DirecTV commercial....

I've been away from the TA the last few weeks but I hope to be back the next weeks or so. I'm usually in there around 9pm est which would be 11 am your yime if I have the timezone correct. First I need the lottery numbers,since your the next day.... :D All kidding aside,if you can make it at that time look for me. you can use the .F morfiend to see if I'm logged on or not and I'll be glad to help in anyway I can. If you can make an appointment with FLS you will learn alot so try to do that as well.
A couple of different prospective from different trainers can go along way!
It would help to know your ingame name also.

just though id add this..(im no fighter jock by the way) but in my oppinion there is no replacement for experience. When first starting to burn up the virtual skies, i actively was on the lookout for the veteran sticks, engaged them (promptly was sitting in the tower) filmed it all, then watched it. Got right back up and did it again. All the advice ive seen given on this thread is great. Its good to see the help being given when asked for. Dont get discouraged, keep at it, stay agressive and it will come...most of all have fun!!!

Howdy YB3 ... I am not a trainer but I do live close to you (Kiwi) ...If you can manage to get on during your morning and get some training from a trainer they would be your best bet...however if you can't get on till the evenings I could help you out with some of the basic things to help you out some.

Giday again.
Been doing some practice with the tips players have suggested in this topic and I recommend other newbie`s in the air do the same.
Did a training session with FHL for an hour learnt a lot in that hour about lines , angles , scissors , suggestions , information , how g`s affect a planes proformance , turns and merges. Also filmed the training and learn something new each time I play the film back. Thank you for your time :o) see you again next Sat.
One of the tips suggested was staying calm during the fight and not get excited and tense up , been working on that and that really has helped a lot.
Latrobe`s distance for aiming his shots has also really helped out , and also when in the fight I am holding my fire until i have a good shot instead of a low % shot <<<< wasting bullets/cannons and are looking at fight`s in a hole different angle/way then what I did before.
One other thing what has helped me a lot is instead of flying 3 or 4 planes just staying to the one plane and have fun in that plane.
