My first scenario, don't recall which one it was, but I flew Me109s with a Luftwaffe squadron, lead by a real German national who sang us Luftwaffe tunes over the radio. Tangling with Spits in a big furball, my FR went into slideshow mode and was shot down pretty early on.
Another scenario, this time Der Grosse Schlag - escorting the buffs deep into Germany with '38s, tangling with FW190s while low on fuel - getting shot up and still getting home, setting down on the runway running on little more than fumes.
Finally, when the Miles sound system first went live - everything was stuck on full volume, and the intensity/excitement of gameplay in that environment was wild! Everything the guys said over VOX sounded like yelling (very immersive during dogfights) - and the flak explosions and hit/damage sounds to my own plane were incredible.
Dunno why I got to reminiscing, but I think I will remember my first flight in the new Me.410 too.

First time Yenny took me to an empty field and showed me the basics of fighting -- my first lesson flying on the edge of a stall. :joystick:
First day I upgraded my computer and turned all graphics options to max. Aces High was so much more beautiful than I imagined it could be. :O
First time SFOX showed me how much fun ch 200 is where you get to be chummy with the enemy. :devil
The time Bruv took me along on a ride of Spitfire awesomeness.
..and then, of course, my most memorable first pwnage....already discussed in another recent thread.

Back in 2003 when AH was a new game to me and so much to learn. Calibrating bombsites, factoring in the wind, crashing into bomb craters on the runway, finding out there are vehicle spawns, getting your first kill, and landing your first kill.
Combat was much more "pesonal" then, no mega hordes possible. There was a time when landing 10+ kills was common. Something happened when the new AH arrived. I had to learn to fly all over again. My accuracy sucked and have had a hard time getting the feel of being one with the Aircraft.
I look forward to the senerios as they feel more like the simulation that grabbed my attention when AH, My Computer, and I were young.

Obeo,
After reading your post it reminded me of a BoB event, flying with JG11. Only Frodo and I were left flying and we were doing a fighting retreat to get back to France. Both of us are extremely low on fuel so we have to cutback on power just to make it home.
As we get feet dry in France we notice a couple of hurricaines but neither of us have much ammo or fuel, lucky for us it appeared the hurries were in the same boat as they didnt really try to engage but we made a couple of passes at each other then got outta dodge.
Both Frodo and I finally land with 1 gallon of fuel left! Ahhh good times!

Isn't it amazing how powerful the memories in Scenarios become? I must have thousands of kills in game, and the only one I can remember distinctly is from the DGS scenario . We were a flight of 38s heading home, I spotted a dot lifting from an airdrome nearby. No one else could see it so they gave me clearance to go get it. I put my ship in a nose low, wide right-hand curve and slowly came up behind the bogey, which I could now ID as an FW190 on climbout. The distance between us grew smaller and smaller - almost gun range, there, steady now, I've got a slight deflection shot so put the pipper ahead of the target....suddenly he sees me and breaks hard right - I reef hard to pull more lead quickly and squeeze the trigger - and am rewarded with hit sprites all over the plane; a wing crumples and the 190 careens into the ground.
The only time I actually get sweaty hands is flying those scenarios.
Also, I remember a cartoon strip from early AH, but can't recall its name or who drew it right now (it may come to me later). Real simple South Park-like drawings, but told the AH story from the perspective of Bishes, Knits, and Rooks. Very funny stuff and right on commentary. I think Fugi's cartoons will also be a memory for me.
EDIT: Duma's Loose Rivets, that was the name of the strip. Here's a link to the index directory - looks like they are all still there:

Flying into an oncoming horde of 20+ planes during my 2 week trial. :D

I made one today. I have not flown the b29 since it was released. I took one up today, only had perks for one... To bad the 38 does not get bomber perks.
After 80 minutes of flight, with engines shut down to save those last precious drops of fuel, I nose over from 30k to my nearest field. I have plenty of alt to make, I am not worried at all. Round about 20K and half way there, I notice the little v next to the field number. I quickly calculate how much fuel I have and is it enough to taxi to the concrete. No, less than a minute is not enough. I am only a sector away for the nearest airfield (verified this time). I start my turn, nose over a bit to get just a hair most speed. I am looking in F3 mode and see something fly off my lonely Bomber. Well crap there go the elevators. I realize I still have ailerons and rudder, two outta three ain't bad. I can work this. After lots of rolling and yawing I am lined up on the runway starting my approach. After all that work, I over shoot the runway, take just about every other usable piece off that big bomber andget the ditch. I laugh heartily at myself and the awesomeness which was my landing. After it is all done, I feel the tension in my arm from trying to push the stick through the stops. I just had to laugh again.

killing 5 of a 5vs1
out maneuvering and killing 3 brews lo and slow on the deck in a 4vs1 (the 4th a yak ran home wounded) :rock
killing LYNX twice in a row (was waiting for that to happen took a couple years to get revenge for him killing me 6 times in a row in my very early days :lol)
killing 4 P47's in a 4 vs 1
absolutely dominating in a off FSO night with no icons....almost got more kills by myself then both sides put together :rock

Thanks Oboe,
Me, I have lots of old memories, but ALL of mine revolve around the people I fly with. The jokes, the wise cracks, heart pounding missions we pulled off and would talk about for days, the stupid stunts. Best night of the week was "squad night"! First day I flew in Aces I was flying with "TRIX!". He was a hard core F4u driver VERY big into bringing his plane home. As I moved up beside him to fly his wing he yelled out on "Roger Wilco" (ya that long ago!). "No too close, they have collisions on here!" I spent the rest of the night doing barrel rolls around his plane! LOL!!! Of course being newbs here we didn't know the "friendly" collisions were off so it was a problem, but to hear him yell every time I rolled around him..... priceless. :devil
-
Most recently while flying Knights I ran into one of the Devil Dogs massive bomber missions. There was no way I was going to do any damage to them with just a 109F4, so I went head on with them twisting and turning around all the tracers from 6 different bombers. I've never seen so may tracers flying past my canopy before! :lol
-
Landing my first sortie with two kills... back in the day over Lake Furball, when I saw two 110's trying to sneak around the mountain to vulch our base. I was so terribly excited while creeping up on them :x
Or my my first really great 1-1 in the main, an epic fight against another La-7. We complimented each other on that great fight and felt like heroes. Years later I found that film and discovered, that our epic dogfight was just a brawl of two horrible n00bs, reminding me more of a pursefight by two one-legged, blindfolded grannies :uhoh :lol
My first 262 sortie, which ended quickly because I accepted a Ho from a 190 :ahand
The first time I killed a set of Lancs not by shooting them down, but by distracting the pilot until he flew directly into a mountain :devil
Bombing the prime camping spot in old Tank Town from 25k :devil
The first WTG from Betty on range vox in tour 70. I was actually surprised to hear a female voice :o
The endless streams of cheating accusations by SOAR and The Cowgirls from-you-know-where....
Flying around for hours in a scenario without seeing any action :bhead
Having Ltown as a CO in another scenario :bhead
Massive armored drives on that old map made by fester that was removed with the new arena setup in 2006
60+ Players in Tank town on Trinity every night :cry
800 Players in the MA :rock
Being shot down by JensK so often in a row that I logged off totally demoralized :ahand

Dove in on a furball with a c.202 to clear a friendlies 6, told him over vox to break left hard I was diving in, he banked left and I got deflection shots on three aircraft, I pulled a loop to bring it around, then I hear a double bang - two crashed into the ocean. I shot down the third, and furballed some more and ended up landing 7 kills in a c202.
"He must of re-armed, or vulched a runway" was the comments flying all over 200, I earned fair and square although 2 did crash:)
-
I was bringing in troops to a base via C47. I landed on a slope facing the base waiting to await
the all clear. Upon landing, I knocked a wing off. I figured I was done.
Then got idea to knock other wing off, rolled down hill, got lift and took the base :D
In AH1, landed 26's in tree cluster (stalled, not on purpose, lol)
Someone in LVT (as I was), snapped a shot of my Lvt which appeared to be hovering even, to the enemy :rofl :rofl
Too many to list
Found the LVT shot, scroll down page :rofl

This one is my favorite, because it all started because my friend Lazer was upset that Furball Lake was taken. Rather than piss and moan, I called on some friends to get the ball rolling.

Also.
I created two Candy Mountains that contained nothing but Stukas. The first one contained 72, but the second contained 102. The highlight? Someone never grabbed a goon and we flattened two bases, I still laugh with SHawk over that one.
All three instances were enjoyed tremendously by the participants, which made them all worth it.

The largest Snapshot in AH2 history with almost the entire MA crowd turning out for it.
Pulverizer, the D-Day invasion. I got it on film. Prehistoric by my current film standards.. but still an epic view.
I won the second frame as highest scoring pilot overall with four in a Spit-8.

Another old one was my own squad "95th RAAF "Nukers" / "BATTLE-HAWKS" and our "shenanigans"
This one was an NOE HQ Raid involving something like 40 people.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lt-Gv_kokOo&feature=BFa&list=UUoYUFyMsQQuYXspQWwJp9Cw
Dogfighting a 262 in a B-24 while racking up three 163s and the prop driven fighter. Was a long fight, but we knocked down the HQ with many a plane both destroyed and lost. A truly exciting campaign.
Then there was Delta's MoM missions, the one I recorded on film, while having its original music removed by You-tube was fantastic. Aluminum Cloud, one of the largest MoM's ever launched numbering an incredible amount of B-24's
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3lJrEu2l1Y&feature=BFa&list=UUoYUFyMsQQuYXspQWwJp9Cw
Most of us got home, besides the interference from those dang 190's.
My young Squad of professional Trouble Makers, which has been revived as "THE TOP-GUN TROLL PATROL" was named "SQUEEKING DEATH"
they were the days where (until very recently), I had the most fun possible in AH2. I cry inside at the fact that I am the last remaining active member of the original Squad and that none of them stayed to see the plane we so cried for "The B-29" make it to the game.

^^^ Our Antics still live on, just in the pages of history, and with the help of my two best friends 1Sum41 and 1ce.... I mean Redbull. They will return to a scale uncomprehendable to anyone save various deity's and a few devil's.
So there you go, MY favorite memories in my 5 years of AH2.

this video (featuring morfiend in one of the 109s :) ) captures one of my favourite memories and most intense fights of my time playing AH
in the MA it wouldn't have been especially memorable
in the ECA scenario the adrenaline rush was incredible - when you get into a fight like that knowing you have limited lives and it'll take another hour or so before you can get back into the action

Many years ago with the 412th, I'll never forget flying and learning from some of the best (and modest) virtual pilots ever. :salute
-
Two pre-AH memories moved me:
First, when I was a training in AW, teaching a younger guy some basic ACMs and answering all of his questions, finding out through conversation that he was having a hard time because he had C.P.
Second, the first time we got any type of Vox/Voice, flying around The Kraits, who were in Spitfires, and listening to them speak with British accents. It doesn't get much more immersive than that.
In AH, I've had numerous great fights, with a lot of films of some real twisters and back and forth battles. I do enjoy when I get the 1 or 2 turn kill on an overshoot. However, for me, the best memories are now the laughs with the friends I've made, both newer since I started AH, and older, such as the remaining Nomads and AWers.
-
Flying with Brits or German or Aussies is always immersive.
Lots of good fights over the years....... oh and tall trees.

When me and Skyrock joined the same week flying around with out a clue what we were doing with the 327th trying to help
I remember well :rofl Skyrock was a numbers guy (03 something), all he would do was try to bomb. He stayed in

Like everyone else I have plenty of good, and very few bad, memories. One sticks out in my mind. We had a desert setup in AvA (and probably this was back when it was still called Combat Theater). One evening a new squad of people came in from the MA and upped a P-40E mission to attack our base. I was wandering around in my 202, quite low, when this swarm of P-40 locusts appeared. I don't believe they had flown the P-40 much, if at all. The resulting melee was reminiscent of the old Popeye cartoons, where someone is running around in a thunderstorm with lightning bolts crashing all around him. I may have actually shot down one or two of them, but I got credit for seven, the most I've ever acquired on a mission.
I don't believe I ever saw any of those guys again.

He was 031598 if my memory serves me correct. Myself and a few others indeed spent some TA/DA time and watching him fly was pretty cool. One thing about Mark was that he understood the mechanics of flight. I just wish he would have dialed down the banter a couple of notches. I always got along with Mark.

Some of the best nights I've had in AH have been with you, just last friday was 1 of those I wont forget for a long time! :aok
Hopefully when I get my 150th sortie we can put the morfiend/mossie affair to bed! :pray You know the mossie hold a special place in my heart and I tried to make up for it with those 2 16's a51 and a temp but no that wasnt good enough... :rofl :rofl
If I only would have bagged a single mossie we would have got that 50th kill. :furious

I could easily get carried away with all the good memories and bore the crowd to tears, so I'm limiting myself to the first one that came to mind when I saw the thread.
The first DGS Scenario. GL of the 474th FG flying P38s. As it was a scenario my group was made up of a mix of squaddies and folks from other squads. All were there for the same reason it seemed, a love of 38s and history.
We were climbing out on our way to rendezvous with the bombers. The terrain was winter and we were above broken clouds. There was time to kill on the way. Someone started talking about a relative who had been in WW2. This lead to others remembering relatives or people they'd met that had seen action during the war. Outside the flights of 4 kept climbing and before I knew it, I could feel the 'cold' seeping into the cockpit. It seemed like I could touch the cockpit glass and my cartoon pilot felt just a little bit real, or at least as real as my imagination, a life long love for WW2 aviation history and a computer game could make him.
I remember thinking how lucky I felt to 'be there' that day with these folks who shared the same interest. I went back to the film later to see what it looked like. Probably my favorite screenshot of all time. Not filled with action, but a bunch of cartoon 38 drivers on the way to do cartoon combat over cartoon Germany.

How soon afterward did the PMs and/or ch 200 cheater calls start going out?
Wish you had that on film, sir... :salute
we both were in shock and <S>'d nothing more. cept me still in shock that i managed to pull it off...
more pure luck and reflex that he was in my gunsight. usually the maneuver just makes them blow by really quick and losing their aim (at least for me)

Stampf,
Some of the best nights I've had in AH have been with you, just last friday was 1 of those I wont forget for a long time!
:furious
Good times and great memories that what AH is all about.
:salute
:aok
A whole lot of good times on Friday nights spent together my friend. Believe me, you guys make it special for me too!
-
And let me add making some GREAT ones now ! I haved learned alot just in the last few month thanks to some great guy's ...
-
My first would be my very first kill which took place so many years ago. I was flying Knight in a P-51 D, and there was the huge battle over some rook base, I found a 109 and just hammered away and that was my first kill.
My first FSO flight with VF-15 Satans Playmates now G3-MF. I was flying a P-39 we where the russians, and I shot down two Me-110s.
Then my first 262 kill which happened about a week and half ago. I was in my P-51 D and this huy was buzzing a field we were trying to capture, so he was coming in from my 10'O clock, and where co-alt, so I pulled the trigger and KA-BOOOOMMMMM he went, then I landed 4 kills with him being my fourth :salute

WOOOOWOOOOO

My best AH memory is my first sortie in P40B. I was in MA and had a long fight at the vicinity of an enemy airfield (not vulching).
I managed to get 5 kills before being forced to return home with several parts missing. I had 1 aileron, wingtip and half elev gone + engine smoke.
While limping home I got yet another kill when someone finished a plane I had wounded - yay 6 kills in 40B... And I was already in friendly radar range! Then I see an LA7 approaching behind me. It's getting closer. Closer. No friendlies around. I'm thinking nooooooo I can't believe I failed to land this just by this one tard zooming supersonic after me.
I wasn't going to give up without a fight though so I tried to gain the speed I could by going to the deck - not much help due to the missing wingtip. The LA7 came within shooting range - so I do the best break I could with full rudder and stick deflection. He missed...
The LA is way too fast so he shoots up and sets for a second attack. I spray my last bullets after him. The LA zooms back down, I make an another evasive now sure of death. BOOOOM the LA augers. My 7th kill - and yes I got to land them :D
-
i think my favorite memories, will always be when the 99th Blue Lagoon Bandits were still together, one sticks out in my mind though
it was close to reset on the map we (Knights) were about to win, one bases away i think, so our CO XBlack decides to send us on a big (for us) bombing run, we go to take off, and not 2 minutes later all 5 or so of us in bombers crash into the mountain in front of us... kinda miss the old squad

BoB Scenario was pretty memorable for me. It was a couple of years ago now and I had not been playing long, but I remember distinctly climbing forever to 28k in Hurri Mk1, and then looking out at rows of Hurri's and Spits all around. Eventually we spotted the huge bomber stream below us and I remember rolling over into a dive and feeling like Douglas Bader.
Made a slashing attack on some Ju88's and came through the formation with a couple of 109's following me, had a good scrap with the first which dived away never to be seen again, by which time I had lost some bits, got tangled with the second and destroyed him.
I was wiped out about 30 seconds later by someone unseen. Second half was in Spit 5's and 109F's. Got another good fight and a kill.
then got mullered, again by one I just didn't see. Ended up ditching in the briney.
Possibly the most immersed I have ever been in a game that day, wife thought I was loopy staying up till 2am to start, what was most memorable was that after the first few seconds of shooting and swerving, and constant vox, the virtual sky was empty. Exactly as has been described by almost every fighter pilot I have ever read or heard about.

A few versions back it was possible to succesfully land to deacked enemy field. Not anymore.
I was in a FI156 over town and got shot down near the map room.
I chuted out and could see many planes without icons landing at our field even as the troops fell from the c47 above me.
I guess they assumed all 10 troops would make it to the map room.
I shot a few troops as they landed around me, ended flight, found a manned gun position had just come back up, and killed something like 13 planes before someone strafed the 37mm gun.

My favorite solo moment was a Coral Sea Scenario. I was behind/detached from my torpedo squadron, lingering to rearm after my first sortie, providing carrier cap given I had good fuel, and everyone else was in need of rearming more than me. It was our turn/frame to fly TBMs, so up I relifted in mine and I plotted my own flight plan to attemt to rondevou with the rest of my group before they reached target.
About 1/3 out on this ad-hoc flight plan, and I had just passed an outer-perimiter friendly patrol of F4Fs. I watched them disapear from range channel and pulled up my map to do a quick cource check and throttle adjustment. As I esc out of the notepad I notice a large mass of dots, below me and of to my right, traveling precisely in my opposite heading. I check my range, still empty. I count down 30-seconds, range is still empty. Definetley enemy... but I'm just in a TBM. First thing I do is shout out on country my find, urging the F4Fs that I knew were still less than a sector away (but traveling in an away direction) to turn imediatley to intercept. Second thing I do, thinking at best that I can keep my alt advantage and shadow them until friendlys intercept, is ditch my 2k lb torpedo.
Just as my bomb bay doors close from the ord ditch, the first of them pop into icon range under me as they pressed onwards. And lo and behold, there were about 12-18 torp-laden Kates, all unescorted... hesitate I did not, wing over and down I dove. On this first pass, my first victim managed to shoot out one of my two forward 50-cals. So I finished him off (and 4-5 others) with a single fixed-forward .50cal. I claimed another one or two with my rear turret after passing the group and going into auto climb. I had them worked almost to the deck, just about half (8-10) left when the pair of F4s I passed and called to turn around pounced and made quick work of the remaining Kates (seriously like 1-1.5 passes, all done, I didn't even have time to reset and go in for another BnZ pass together with them).
With the 5-minute distraction taken care of, the only downside was I had enough time/gas to continue to my target and make a drop... if I didn't ditch my ord and have to fly back to a friendly carrier (the oppostie direction).

One of my favorite ( and most frustrating memories) comes from just a month or so ago. I saw that there was a friendly base flashing so I upped some sort of spitfire I believe. I took off and noticed a Ki-84-la above head. There were already some friendly icons up there but the Ki-84 was slowly killing them all so I climbed up there and started turning with him. I managed to get a few pings and was nearing victory when the Ki took off for the deck and ran. I figured sweet I will just chase this guy down and kill him. So we are about 500 feet over the water and he is about 1k ahead of me. All of the sudden he pulls straight up and I'm even more excited thinking this dude just messed up and its time to finish it. Needless to say I follow him up and as we climb, BAM BAM BAM. tons of black magic puffy ack starts exploding all around me pinging my plane. as you probably put together, he led me to an enemy carriers guns. So startled by the ack I turn to dive back down and head home away from the carrier, and next thing I know the KI is on my tail! and boom.. I'm dead..
Killer = Jetsom / Ink
It was fun and frustrating all at the same time. I really appreciated how he put everything to use and tricked me like that. It was smart flying. :salute

sounds fun...but I don't remember it..I do remember your name coming up as a kill... don't remember how or why but thought it was funny you made the skull sight I use to sight in on ya.....
also I wont run unless bingo while in my KI ( I say this cause last night I did run in a K4 with 10 cannon left)... would much rather the person earn the kill....
and I can say I don't think about dragging someone to ack.... if we are fighting and ack is around nothing I can do about that
I am thinking you may be getting fights mixed up...no big deal...but I do preach about always fighting till the end, so when someone says I ran I must comment. :salute
you must be getting mixed up....only kill I have on ya..... I was in a 51B
-
I might have it on flim, Ill check :)
btw, it wasnt under the bluberry name :) I had yet to change my name to bluberry. This would be when I flew as FlyBoi
The time we met recently and you killed me with the skull sight, you were the 51 high and I was the p47 below u.
I think the only way I could be mistaken is if I didnt realize there was another enemy KI near the carrier and u killed me as I ran, which is possible.
-
I just found the 51 vs 47 I bounced you from on high...just so happens I was booted and game saved the film :rofl
flyboi....I think that rings a bell :headscratch:

Times spent in the DA with top notch guys, the ones where it was just about dueling and improving and not bashing a certain guy until he quit.
Especially with the likes of Grizz, Sunbat, TJ, Dedalos, Bighorn, Soulyss, Cactus, Shuffles, Sunsfan, Ink, Kazaa, MickyD, TnDep, Bruv, Drbone, etc.... Anyone else who was a regular to those sessions.

Yeah the 110 kill was over a gv fight. I watched that film while checking for the carrier film. Until i can find film then I will say I must be mistaken of who my killer was. :salute

or just mixing up fights....it happens...I honestly don't remember the fight you describe...it could be I was in the area and you just mistook me for another KI.....
I wasn't offended, or thinking you are making stuff up....but because I do preach all the time about fighting till the end/not running even when it is going bad for me, I wanted to set ya straight :salute

Don't know if this is my favorite, but it's a good one, and happened a few hours ago. I logged in this morning, and found a Bish CV near the nit port up north on ND Isles. I ran a couple sorties because when I asked on country channel the boat's distance, a fellow Bish was kind of enough to check. This was a matter of some pitch because we had just sunk the Knight CV shortly before. So the boat had a little sailing left.
I landed. Got on boat and lo and behold the Knight CV was up and steaming in a normal manner south east'ish away from the port. There was another Bish onboard, a new player, and thankfully he did not fire. We waited and got our boat in position shelling as we sailed to about 9K from the port. Happily, no upped, so no blinking. I posted a mission. Pushed it back 5 mins. And got what looked like enough to do the job.
We lifted; and within minutes the VH, Stortch hangar, and shore batteries were destroyed.
We captured the Knight port with no drama or hand-wringing.
Now to find their boat. Several went aloft; and in 10 mins, we found her as whoever was at the helm did a fine job in putting her off a predictable line.
In Hell Cats we rallied to the boat. Gladly, and since all of us were off our boat range/room was a very handy comm, those in the lead held their ord until we had enough to take a good wack at her. There were no heroes, no snafu's, no anything. It went off like clockwork. About 6 Hell Cats arrived, some of us circling the boat waiting for our mates. We did the job.
Just one of those happy Op's.
<S> to Bish and Knight alike.

Only had a few sorties, but loved turning up to back a guy up near the airfield and the enemy running off after assuming I know what I'm doing!! I love the fact you can make an impact whatever your skill level. Plus strafing two B-17's for my first kill :x
-
Flying in the P-47D-25. Same sortie downing 2 x 262. :rock
-
I chased high buffs and shot them all up (one downed) but ran out of fuel short of his landing field expecting him to not make the field and the kills would show up soon in the buffer......or his landing of points.
I landed just outside of flashing the field and waited....and waited.......went to the junkyard and picked up something....came back to scroll through the buffer and saw nothing of him.
Checked roster and he was still in the arena so I decided that this crafty guy had maybe landed no damage.
I ended sortie and my buffer shows a kill credited to him........dang....he outwaited me........for over 3 hours.
That led me to believe he was sitting on the runway waiting for me to end flight to collect his 110g pelt....which he did.
I quickly upped a yak9 hoping he had left keyboard like I had and flew fast NOE to his field, found his planes sitting on the runway, and strafed them down knowing the field ack would get me.
Lessons:
1. HG428CJ is one smart and patient cookie.
2. If you wait to get a kill, don't leave the keyboard until the buffer shows his landing or roster shows him gone.

Killing SunBat while in a 3v1 with Muppets. :noid

I doubt Xbrit will remeber any of this, but:
Shortly after I first started playing AH and flying for the Rooks with the 81st Krewsaders. I was just getting to where I could actually take off in a fighter, I came across Xbrit in a 1v1. As in MA fashion though another con was lining up to pick him so I jumped in to help (not that he would need it). Ofcourse I overshot and was about to auger at every turn, but I managed to distract the con's enough to help him. Xbrit may have killed both of them for all I know now as I can't recall that. What sticks out in my mind is we communicated with each other on range and worked as a team in a 2v2 and both of us survived. I remember feeling a sense of comraderie and accomplishment which I know sounds dumb in a cartoon world. Funny how that sense of achievement has stuck with me.

Sorry, I just had to do this......

This is why game play has gone down hill, where getting "the kill" has become more important than the fight.

....and this is what is missing. The comraderie challenge and fun of the fight. Remembering the fight and fun one had but not remembering who killed what. <S>
and yes, Xbrit is a fun one to fly with. Many a great memory flying with him.

One of my favorite memories goes back about 7 or 8 years ago. I dropped a single 500 kilo bomb on a Lancaster mission that spawned just as I arrived at their field in a Dora... One bomb, 21 kills.
-
Lets see. In no particular order:
Late at night seeing undefended after undefended rook base fall I take off in a Spitfire V and head to the next base in line. In the now defunct General channel I say "I will not let A20 fall without a fight. I get there and see maybe 10 players and dive in to a furball with them all. As it degenerates into a turning stall fight on the deck I catch sight of a C-47 about 5.0 away just as he slips below the lip of the plateau the base is on. I surprise them as I level out and make a run for the C-47 as their faster fighters try to catch up, shots coming over the wings as I reach the edge, catch sight the running C-47. I dip down giving myself a respite from the fire as the terrain blocks it for a moment and go for the C-47. I run down the C-47, killing it just before one of their fights finally manages to get me.
Late at night trying to solo a v base my C-47 is intercepted by a P-38L. In the ensuing fight I see a way to fly him into an arm of the mountain if he is greedy and perform the maneuver, the P-38 is greedy, over commits to get the free C-47 kill and cannot avoid the mountain. My one and only intentionally caused kill in the C-47.
One evening when my aim was better than it ever was before or has been since I landed 12 air-to-air kills in the A6M5b without rearming, 4 more than I have ever managed in anything else. I remember Mitsu throwing a <S> my way when I landed that.
Seeing a big dar bar heading south and no green bar to oppose it and taking a C.202 for some reason. As I climb out I see the dots well above me and to the north. I climb for intercept as they fly over I see it is a single B-17G (no formations back then) escorted by a P-51D and two F4U-1Ds. I pretend to be an idiot as I slowly climb up the B-17's low six while watching the fighters the whole time. All three of them bite and I immediately turn to avoid their first pass. I quickly get on the P-51D and light him up with my not so incredible firepower, but I don't want to stick and give the F4Us a shot. The P-51 starts leaking something and dives away never to be seen by me again. As we tumble to the sea I nick away at one of the F4Us until it breaks apart and goes in. Now all the way on the deck I work into a firing position on the last F4U and start hitting him. He levels and tries to run, but too late and he joins the first one in the sea. Only two kills, but I stripped a B-17 of its entire escort and won a three v one fighting in an inferior aircraft from a position of disadvantage.
Many others in there as well, but that'll do for now.
Ok, one more for Widewing.
I was in a Panzer IV H sitting on a ridge over an enemy field at near max rage practicing hitting things with He rounds when an F4U-4 comes in to land. I hastily fire a round at it, round lands long. I adjust figuring I get one more shot, the round lands at the juncture of the F4U-4's wing and fuselage. "SYSTEM: You shot down Widewing" Widewing got a TBM-3 with a 2000lb bomb and came and got revenge.
-
This was in the Jokers Jokers heyday , I was in a heavy F6F doing pre-emptive ord porking when I come upon a base at roughly 12k, as i get closer i see a large black blob on the end of the runway. I WEP in and arm 2 1k bombs. It seems the JJ's were just upping a mission and possibly getting instruction as they were just sitting there... 12 kills first pass, 3 more with rockets on second pass.Seems my brother (beamer1) was in the horde and i saw his name pop up in the buffer as a kill. He PM's me that i would be caught and killed... and i was...LOL
And same scenario except a P47N when i spot TWO 262 very low...very slow.. i dump my bombs and rockets,,, swoop down to investigate... kill the first on initial pass, the other tries to turn his fat, slow blowdryer back to base, but he's tooo far for ack cover. after 2 or three passes , he dies to and i get PM's on what a dweeb i am...lol

My second best memory of AH must be the sortie in a pony where I droped down from 15k above an enemy field. I saw uppers below, many of them.
Lo and behold I happened to pop on the field just as a mission had taken off and there was a nice bead line of ponies, mossies etc. going close to the deck. I had just diven down and had a lot of smash so I just zoomed past the whole line. I killed one plane from the rear. Booom. Then the next one. Boooom. All the time waiting for someone to call out a warning on radio. Then the next one, but this was three planes close to eachothers, I couldn't get a proper angle and only damaged two of them. I had to zoom right past them in a risky move, waiting to be shot in the behind. But no - the line of planes just kept going forward and I started firing on the third victim. He goes down. Fourth.. burning. On the fifth target I saw the first one to actually try to evade and drop his bombs :) He went down.
Now the word clearly has spread and I see more fighters drop their bombs and start evasives. I take a couple of more shots but the situation is clearly turning into a furball now. I had the option of continuing with max speed or staying to turnfight 12 vs 1. Of course I chose the latter option. I damaged 3 more planes before the inevitable happened and someone landed a lucky cannon round to my vertical stab and it was game over.
Many times I have thought that the only thing that would top this would be to see a mission spawn below and drop a bomb right on the spawn point. That would cause whines that would reach the next galaxy.

Sorry, I just had to do this......
This is why game play has gone down hill, where getting "the kill" has become more important than the fight.
This? coming from a guy who lands wheels up on a regular basis?
Nope, sorry........you are incorrect.
This was a test of patience between two players isolated in an area of zero activity.
Please limit your pathetic attempts at trolling to something that doesn't make you look like a bitter person.

what the hell does landing wheels up have anything to do with anything :headscratch:

Not a long time ago, there were a squadron of rooks stalking around over the TT, only opposed only by Tongs (bishop) and me (knight). After being killed a couple times, we decided to wing up against the rooks.
Slimebag Spy alert...
Bunch of funny stuff happened :)

He was despairing the conditions of the main arena and assigning partial blame to me for trying to outwait an opponent.
Arguing realism while flying without it himself is what I was referencing.

The only times I land wheels up is if I have one damaged, or if the field is under attack and I have to land due to no fuel ammo, or again damage that rules out fighting. On top of that I very rarely land any way as landing isn't all that important.
The post I pointed out was one of two people trying to wait each other out. Why, because the kill was more important to them than just ending the flight and moving on. I on the other hand had I landed would have ended the flight and either launched or gone to the store because again getting a kill marked on my sheet is unimportant, and that was all that I was pointing out.
-
You landed wheels up to depart from the realism of having to slow a plane down on it's wheels VS bellying in so you can tower out faster.
-
I can't believe that is a favorite memory icepac, that's pretty lame on both sides of the computer screens.
3 hours waiting for a kill is a little... sad

As I said it would have been due to damage. I've been thinking on 2 things here. 1 I don't "regularly land with wheels up and don't know where you got this idea. Second, I don't think I've ever said anything about realism in a game either. If I was worried about realism I wouldnt be flying in 10 to 1 odds like I do. I don't know where you got your information.
As for the post, it lame to wait 3 hour to register a kill. In that same 3 hours with my poor skills I would have a dozen more.

The legend of the lost mossie mission.
Or winging up with Derjude and perdweeb in 262s.
Or my first "flight" in the 152.

The fun policeman has spoken.
Who are you to tell me that a battle of patience between two players is wrong when I watch you land wheels up because it takes too long to roll out?
It was not about the score or kill tally but rather about who gave up first.
Please remember that you instigated this exchange.

There is more to the game than banging out easy kills and milkrunning towns.

I'll provide film if you want it.
This is about fighting. I always land wheels up to get back up into a fight again quickly. If I wanted to practice textbook landings in a flight sim, I would start up FSX.

Sweet.......we get the lowest common denominator of our gaming experience forced upon us.
Remember that you aren't the only person who is affected by your gaming the game for an easy advantage.

The Battle of the Bulge FSO, with me and Morf in A20's. Much destruction was caused :aok
Frame 2 of Scratch One Flattop. One of VF-17's finest moments since I've been with them. Fighting overwelmed and low and fuel and especially ammo, guys staying in the fight to clear each other despite having no ammo and low on fuel. Trying to line up the enemy for friendlies that still did have some ammo. It was a desperate fight, the kind you always remember.

Who hasn't created a mission that spawned from a hanger and crashed?
/i know I have, just waiting for the first B-29 mission to do this, oh the whining would be endless.

Hmmm...probably raging at Bone for picking and vulching when I first started playing again last year. :D
