This will be a high altitude and deep enemy penetration mission to strike 3 targets. Launch will be from a rear airfield to allow the bombers to get to drop altitude. Fighters will launch with 100% fuel and all the drop tanks they can carry.
Mission Details :
Launch Arena : Late War
Launch Country : Knights
Target Country : Bishops
Targets : Small Airfield Only, Vehicle Base, and Town belonging to another Airfield
Launch Time : 8PM EST/7PM EST USA
Some changes have been made to accomadate large turnout. Last week, we had 45 players involved.
Each seperate aircraft type will have a maximum of slots in the loaded mission.
16 slots for a fighter
12 slots for a bomber
Aircraft Order of Battle:
B-17
B-24
P-38L
P-38J
P-47N
P-47D-25
P-51D
P-51B
There will be 4 seperate Vox channels used. One for the bombers, one for each same aircraft group to be determined by the Commander of each Group.
There will be some leaders to take care of business.

I'll be loading the Mission 60 minutes prior to launch time. You can join the mission once it's loaded and sent. You can still fly and fight until 2 minutes prior to launch. Plan on landing your kills 5 minutes prior and sitting in tower for launch. Otherwise, when I type out 2 Minutes until Launch, then you had better crash, ditch or bail and be in a tower. Any tower will suffice. The Mision will automatically launch you from the approriate field. Pay attention to the text messages for your particulat aircraft vox channel.
Volunteers are needed to fill these positions. Zoney gets first pick of fighter aircraft type. Before jumping in, ask yourself "Am I ready to make a weekly committment for leading a flight or a group and a flight?" It is preferred to have the same leaders on a weekly basis. Leaders should be in the arena 30 minutes prior to help get thing organized for your flights and groups. Plus, help with the announcemnts. I can do alot but extra helpers is very helpful.
New flights can be added if all slots are filled for a particular fighter aircraft or bomber flight.
Once the mission has launched, I will request that each flight leader to make a list of players in that flight. Then to send me that list via PM in the forums for me to keep an attendance record. This will be to determine who is casual and who is regular. Those that are regular will be eligible for inclusion into a special thing that will be announced shortly in due time.
Zoney and I plan on making this a weekly event way past the current DGS II Scenario. I know there are some die-hard players that have a die-hard loyalty to a particular country. I'm asking that those reading this that fall into that category or very close too it to take 3 hours away and switch country if needed to fly the 8th AF Mission or fly Luftwaffe against. 9 hours later you can switch back.
Players wishing to fly Luftwaffe against are strongly encouraged to form a large force of aircraft together and attack as one cohesive group. I would like to see a player step forward to lead the attack every week and develop a command team of its own and recruit players into it. I know there's some JG squads out there. I will announce on 200 the individual targets and 8th AF strength and others will to. We want alot of 109s, 110's,and 190's plus TA-152's. When we can get to 100+ 8th AF strength (30 sets of bombers mininum) then we can call for some jets with some HQ runs.
All of this was discussed last mission verbally by players in the mission before we landed plus a couple of my own to help make things smoother. My style of Command is to trickle down from the top. Very loose with letting the smaller unit leaders handle their tactical decision making. Players will be shot down. I don't believe in people making wrong decisions. Every decision is an estimated guess thinking what the enemy is planning. Any decision that allows the enemy to get through to the bombers should be a lesson learned to not doing it again.
Looking forward to another Mission and seeing 60 or more players involved this time. While you're playing in the MA's, tell your squaddies, buddies, and your enemies to be on Thursday nights for 8th AF vs Luftwaffe.
Still waiting to see a European player to organize Saturday Evening European Time/ Saturday Afternoon USA Time event like this. Someone had mentioned that as an idea. Just need someone to organize that how they want to do it. I try to think of everything for a fair and balanced way with 24 seperate time zones to contend with.

Zoney made his choice for aircraft type and model and has graciously let another player be the leader of that aircraft type while he works the bigger picture.

Again, one night a week that may be quite different to what we are used to. Without arguing about which type of gameplay is better or worse, its different. One night a week where you fly with or against the 8th AF. You stay in your squad, it's for fun, to learn with, and again, to do something different.
I know Kuya will tweak this thing to keep it fair and fun. Bring your friends, visit the 8th AF website...................... .and lets have a ball.

Will be flying a P-38L this time.

Awesome, would you care to be the P39L Commander ? Remember all for fun, there is no salary, no uniform, no pretty girls, no booze, unless you provide them..

You don't have to be an expert or a seasoned player. We'll take the inexperienced player and groom you to become a great pilot. Jump in.
-
To be experienced you must participate. What better place than this to gain that. No score, all for fun, lots of participants, and lots of vets flying that will help you.
You young guys and gals, you new guys and gals. Come and play. Find out what it is like to lead a flight or follow orders.
Next mission is tomorrow ladies and gents. What are you waiting for ladies and gents, sign up.

I would be happy to lead the B-24's

I am actually going to have to rescind my offer to lead the B-24's. In my excitement, I committed before realizing I already had a prior family engagement. I would like to get signed up for the next one though, I will clear my schedule. My in game ID is Pongo.

Are the regular players bringing friends with them?
-
I'll gladly take a bomber slot no matter which plane. May have two more from the 17th BG (M) but I'll confirm that first.
-

I will be bringing a group of TG members for this. :rock
-
I have not been successful in getting home in time for this the last 2 weeks. Hopefully I can make it tonight.

Thank you DrBone.
If you folks that have not committed yet want to fly P51's, you could not ask for a better wingmen than The Bonester and Top Gun. You wanna fly P38's ? You'll be winging with Butcher, a stone cold killer who has unparralleled SA. P47 your bird of choice ? Ummmmm......uhhhhhhhh......th at's me, maybe you can show me how to fly this thing, I just started. Seriously, have ya seen my suckage ? I could use about 10 wingies just to save me, 10 more to look out for me case my SA sucks, and 10 more to actually cover the buffs which is our mission. Wow, just like gubment work, 3 guys for 1 job but only one guy doin' it.

Flying the L this week to get some experience in it, been while since i did 25k in 38L, not sure if I am flying the L in the scenarios or not, I know the J.

Would Like to be in the D25, but would rather not be Group leader, second choice will be with Butch and the Blenders

Change me from the L to the J please, 474th are J model only :)

You should try to milk these for later sometime, it's only 4:05pm on the west coast right now. Leaving early, with good traffic, and a tailwind, maybe can be home by ~5:30pm.
-
Should have heard the box chatter go when that first batch of high 190 and 152 rolled in from behind the bomber formation. Another on of those " in the cockpit" moments. They rarely happen for me in the MA. Good fun :aok

We had a good turnout around 35 players. Thank you to all who participated. :salute

Was good stuff AKKuya count me and some of TG guys in on the next also. :salute :airplane:
-
Was an absolute blast. More numbers would be even better. Shoot we had ack hitting us from a luckily placed cv, 262s 152s and all sorts of others hitting us. Even tho none of us poor buffs got home alive it was by far one of the best times ive had in the game in the few years ive played. Thanks for setting it up. Id recommend everyone gives it a shot next week, its scenarios like this that are the best part of the game. Come find out y.
Covernow (formerly Condor)

Glad everyone enjoyed it. :salute
On a personal note there guys. The Bomber Commander had all 3 B-17's shot out from him this week. Let's try to keep him flying next week. :D

Thanks for offering up excellent resistance and a good fight to the very end, and with mostly luftwaffe aircraft, :salute our antagonists.
.........really glad you liked it Condor, it is a refreshing change eh ? I did not know that was you, I think you were the last one flying weren't you ?
-
Oh the bombers that i was haha. But with bingo ammo in nearly every gun, and holes every which way, snailman in his 262 made quick of a mosty unescorted set of 17s :(. But still a blast. Im sure i was a sight to see vilkas plinking away with one side gun while i was trying to outturn a 190 haha
-
I am enjoying these missions greatly.
I've also registered to the 8th forums

But with bingo ammo in nearly every gun, and holes every which way, snailman in his 262 made quick of a mosty unescorted set of 17s :(.
But I payed my price this evening too, I lost a 262 during a frontal attack on another bomber formation: "Shouldn't they come into my gunsight now? Oooops, here they are!" *crash* :x
Your escort fighters were doing a great job during most of the battle, they seemed to be very disciplined (well at least much more than usual MA standards) and made it very difficult for me to set up my attack runs at all. :airplane:
-
Yea our escorts were awesome. They ran outta fuel tho lol. Add that to the AAR Kuya, Moar Gas!!!
-
Only had 11 gallons left when i touched down at 219 :uhoh, but all in all, it is definitley a blast, a lot different then the normal MA stuff
-

I for one am glad your with us, running the 47's all around the buffs. We had a pretty good 360 degree curtain of defense going there most of the time.
-
Some reason the 8th forums wouldn't let me sign up, stupid security thing i mess up my Os and 0s.
Kuya, I tried 5 different times - some reason it will not accept the confirmation code I try to enter, no idea...
-
Crap! I missed it. Danm you real life!
-
I had a lot of fun too. Hooked up with Stampf and a few of his guys and we came in from an off side. Had we a bit more alt to work with I think we could have done some damage with the 7 of us coming in together. As it was I ended up with 4 on my tail real quick, and ALFA and Mav chewed me up pretty good.
Looking forward to next weeks run <S> to all involved.

I'll put you in manually then.
-
I flew 20 mins to finally get to altitude and target with a couple of buddies and disco just as I come out of compression and turn for the formations :D
See one of my buds nail one of AKKuya's buffs in his 110 just as I am about to loose connection... Also, a good shot of Stampf harrassing the formation and being chased by escorts..... (Click below to use the attachment option from another forum.... check below)

Thinking on moving the Mission up one hour to allow more people to fly. This will make it easier on those who work and stuff.
Proposed new time is 9PM EST/8PM CST. Sound off on this proposal.

It will also make it more safer for the bombers, as 3-5 AM is definitely pushing it over the edge for me ;)

That will work much better for me, I would have been able to make it last time if it had been at 8PM CST :)

That knocks me OUT :( Crazy upside down world I work in, has me leaving for work 9:30 EST.
Do whatever you feel is best, most folks ARE logging in just as I am heading out to work. The exceptions might be those in European time zones. Even a half an hour later would probably dink us early birds. But in my case, I usually disco before I make any real impact other than holding the film camera for a few moments.......... (see earlier post below)

would still be ok for me, and if it pushes the "Snail" out that might mean there will be a buff left for me to shoot down :devil

b 9:00 is not good for me :(
-
9Pm works great for me or even 9:30pm.
Given it takes 30-45 minutes to organize and climb out - plus the mission time - think 9pm is the way to go, if not 9:30.
-
Why does it feel like moving the time to 2100ish is just going to give us more 262s to deal with then sets of buffs that we bring :(
-
Yes to the later start time.
I can bring a whole lot more 190's and 109's to the party a bit later.

People can bring whatever they want, however Kuya has asked to stick with the Luftwaffe birds to the timeframe of the Scenario (1943).
Thus being said, people will still bring Ta-152 and Me-262s, as would I.
-

I guess most players in the arena did not and do never know that there is a 'special' mission going on. If you are not tuned to CH 200 and don't track the BBS regularly (only very few players do), it's just another giant darbar you know about. And you will bring what you think is necessary, regardless of any 'arrangements' being done here in the forum.

We asked, not demanded that 8th AF apponents refrain from taking the 262. I'm sure there are folks that did not get that information. There are also folks that did get the request and chose to take it anyway. I understand, believe me, I love that plane. in this case it is just one mission, about one hour, on one day a week so if I was a luftwaffe pilot I would not take it.
I certainly do not want the use of the 262 to be disruptive including holding those who did/do fly it in contempt. I will however ask again, respectfully, please do not bring a 262.
:salute

Zoney,
can i bring a 38L with luftwaffe markings disguised as a 262?
-
Zoney,

Sure, but you suck in it.
And next week I want you to fly with the 8th again, don't get caught out of the 12 hour thingamabob
-
Kuya why not make it in the SEA arena find a dedicated CM to host it?
You will always get those guys that can't really handle themselves in a 190, or 109 that brings 262s for lack of skill.
We avoided the 163s by going to a base far enough away but still ended up with 3 262s that we had no chance in killing.
I can get a few of my Boys dedicated to this especially if its in the SEA Arena.
Then again you run into the problem of not many ppl wanting to switch over because its not being held in MA.
In my opinion it was a great fun time regardless if we lost all Bombers.
We can ask the ppl to not bring Jets but we all know those of lesser skill flying high altitude will always bring something that compensates for lack of skill.

My 262 was killed. :noid

-
You were obviously not being smart about you're angle's with the Formations/Fighters. :neener:
Indeed I was :ahand
But seriously, in the end it was a result of that great fighter cover. I wasn't able to set up my attacks as properly as I usually would, because each time I tried I was promptly jumped and often driven away. So I ended up with a high risk approach, and the results are known... :lol
In a conventional fighter I would never even even had come near the bombers at all. I learned that the hard way during that raid one week before. :old:
-
I could tell right off the bat we didnt have no inexperienced Pilots doing the Fighter Cover, It was really cool to see the 51s and 47s being the great escort that they were.
I really enjoyed myself and Just for kicks I may take TG Axis next time, to see it from the German POV. :D
Were you the First 262 that engaged the Buffs?
-
Were you the First 262 that engaged the Buffs?
I think so. I launched very early and came across the raid over the ocean, only to be surprised by flying through enemy CV puffy ack :lol I actually got hit once, but no serious damage.
-
You were the first con over the CV about a sector or 2 ahead of us.
I seen that dot and thought that's gotta be a 262 he turned away from CV. :lol
Dont feel bad we ran across a CV of the Knights also, Took my left fuel tank and I ended up running out of fuel over the target only to be discoed on my descent. :ahand :lol

Maybe, someday when this thing has a life of it's own and an arena set up would be great. For now I think alot of folks are enjoying something they don't normally do. I think that this thing will feed the FSO's, and Scenarios with pilots that found a new dimension to the game through the 8th missions.
-
No doubt.
-
Lusche, just my opinion, but to be clear, if I had a choice, (and I do not have a choice), I would rather see you bring a 262 to the fight then not play. :salute After your initial attack I did manage to chase you off I think, hung there at d800 for awhile before ya dropped my P47, and I may have pinged you once, maybe.
-
Thank you. Actually, if you guys weren't not that much into simulating a 'true' 8th AF bombing mission, I maybe would have escorted you in my 262. Years ago, with big bomber missions being more frequent, I did that a few times with devastating effects. :devil
It's a great way to give the bomber guys back a little thing and protects them quite well from enemy jets. And a jet vs jet confrontation @28k is great fun :joystick:

Also to add to Zoney's respnose, the CM's are very selective when it comes to events in SEA. Now, if this type of mission happens to yield 60-80 players flying the 8th AF Mission and a volunteer to lead the Luftwaffe yields 60-80 players and this is done on a weekly basis, then maybe this can be a SEA event.
If you want that to happen, then this needs to happen first.
1) Recruit all the MA players you can to these Thursday missions
2) Get all the 8th AF players to register at the 8th AF Forum
3) Get involved with the planning by becoming an 8th AF leader

Also to add to Zoney's respnose, the CM's are very selective when it comes to events in SEA. Now, if this type of mission happens to yield 60-80 players flying the 8th AF Mission and a volunteer to lead the Luftwaffe yields 60-80 players and this is done on a weekly basis, then maybe this can be a SEA event.

While back we used to have two snapshot days a week, I offered to help bring one day back even help run it - but granted with numbers Snapshot has now a days, its even more unlikely people will show up for a second day.

This is the type of event that will draw many players to. Classic 8th Air Force vs Luftwaffe over England, France and Germany.

Sure, but you suck in it.
And next week I want you to fly with the 8th again, don't get caught out of the 12 hour thingamabob
No worries, it a blunder on my part but won't happen again.

So, did any allied pilots score any kills? I bagged two 190's, but I was flying a B-24 so that don't count.
(I also bombed the wrong target at first drop and cleanly missed at second drop.)
:lol
Had fun.
:salute

I was happy to land one kill. Zero the week before, 2 the week before that.
