Title: Thursday 19 July 2012 8th AF Mission "Operation Thunder"
Post by: AKKuya on July 14, 2012, 02:42:11 PM
The 8th Air Force has been tasked with hitting Rook targets. We will strike a Medium Airfield, a Small Airfield, and a Vehicle Base.

Launch Country : Knight
Target Country  : Rook
Launch Time     : 9PM EST/ 8PM CST

The Mission has been moved up one hour to get more players into the Mission and for some to fly against.  Announcements will be made on 200 channel to allow Rooks to organize a defense with intel on selected targets and force strength.  This is done so we will have a fight and not a milkrun.

All Mission details are located here http://stevesscifishootout.forumsland.com/index.php?mforum=stevesscifishootout.  Register and post your plane preference in General Information.

You just make sure you got your boys lined up to thwart us.  Your group is doing a great job.  Unmistakeable when you guys close on us who it is, very very well done.  You and your squad add an awful lot to this dealeeoo.  I shall endeavor to thwart your thwarting.

When you mentioned that in the other thread, I had way too many PM's, conversations and RL stuff going on that I forgot that 8th AF was on Knights for the month of July.  In August, 8th AF will be on Rookland so targets will be Bishop and Knight rotating back and forth.

I apologize for any confusion Stampf.  Please bear with me on getting this little thing running the best I can by being equal to all countries.  August has 5 weeks, so I will make Knights 1st, 3rd, and 5th weeks for you.

CC all.  Thanks.

I applaud the effort to date loudly.  A challenge to say the least in an open arena. Heck, if the only thing that came out of this was... more dedicated, experienced, skilled, historically driven pilots for FSO, and all special events...it would be a huge success.

Thwart on!  You arrogant boys, and over confident old men are doing a darn fine job up there.  :D

Word of mouth while you guys are flying in the arenas all week will help tremendously into making this a large turnout for both sides.

Well that's always an interesting idea.

My preference would be for Top Gun to fill in the open slots in the 8th Air Force and show how escort flying is done.  I need some Group CO's and Wing CO's.

If were going for score then I already racked up 5 kills in 2 sorties, and didn't get to fly the third :)

:airplane: Would love to bring the guys along on this, but, we are not "side switchers", so when you have missions into Knights or Bishops, count us 30 guys in! I guess we are a "funny" bunch, but we fly strictly American aircraft, at least 99% of the time. No offense, some of us lost family members to both Japanese and Germans during war, so we are more comfortable flying American aircraft.

There will be plenty of Pony pilots to keep you coming. :D :D

I'm writing up a detailed informational post about how the 8th AF Missions will work from top to bottom giving all members of the 8th AF something to contribute as much or little as they prefer.  It will be a very collabrative undertaking.

Hopefully TopGun's singing on 80th FS vox the last few days persist them to come fly the 8th AF mission and lead us B-38 pilots into victory.

Otherwise I am pulling out some heavy guns and going to play Kenny G songs on vox all month.

Yes you are, that is why we hold it in the main so everyone can participate.  Late, early, high, low luft, axis, everyone is welcome.  Please join in the fun.  If you do want to defend please choose a Luftwaffe aircraft and if I were you I would try and wing up with another attacking squad or at least a wingman.

I'm glad there are no 152s in the scenario, what a pain in the butt!

It was good fun again.  Thanks to the JG11 folks and KN folks who were up there at 30K and some in the 152s and 109Ks.  Again vox went crazy when that wall of red rolled in :)

Covering the 17s

Most definitely a brawl from where I was sitting.  Morfiend almost had me in his 152 but Iceman flying my wing drove him off.  DejaVu missed on a 460 + pass that went between myself and Iceman, and an A8 driver almost had the drop on me but Bfoot1 shot him down.  Very intense fight and back 'in the cockpit' again.

I began to question my sanity when we flew into your even bigger wall of red. Damn, there was a lot of Allied metal in the skies!

I don't normally fly German, but the TA-152 flew beautifully and after clearing a few sixes, missing several crossing shots, and mixing it up with some Ponies on the deck with Morf till my ammo was gone, I coasted onto the runway with one scalp and a sense of relief.  A quick glance showed I was at the wrong end of a firing solution at least once, but the bird held together.

 :salute All, was great fun

That was fun !  Going to be even more fun next week.  I see steady improvements in escort and enemy fighters.  I think the Luftwaffe was lined up a bit too far west as bombers were heading north to the targets which caused them to mostly come in behind the buff group.  They did not get a good initial run with an advatage angle on the group so they missed what I believe to be that first run which normally has devestating effect on the buff group.  Hope to see you all, and more next week  :salute

Stampf, how many players did you get to join your reception committee?  Awesome sight to see and hear on vox.

The buffs were never our objective.   ;)
