Yeah 14 right now just woke up and its all over the news.

I am speechless, just unreal.
Prayers and thoughts to their families.

Frack, my niece and her family live in Aurora. Sure hope they all stayed home tonight.

Apparently a six year old and a three month old were among the injured/killed. Why were they even at a midnight release anyway?

Honestly I thought we'd get at least a day to pray for our dead before a member of Euro-Paradise-Consortium would chip in. We didnt even get 5 hours.
These are PEOPLE killed and wounded. With FAMILIES.

Very sad day for those who lost a loved one. This country has become a increasingly violent place of random toejam like that... Just a few months ago we had some arse clown "eating" a person in Miami, now this arse clown shoots a movie up...
I love this country but fear my government and 80% of the citizens.
We should enact the "Street Justice Law" <~~eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth~~>
And lets not forget about the rent a cop who said he was being beat so badly that he had no choice but too shoot a teanager... Funny is the guy out weighed the teen by 50-60 lbs... Im moving to some remote place by one of the Poles as long as i get internet !
Too hell with people I will enjoy being alone if it means i do not have to wear a vest and carry concealed just to go to a movie or grocery shopping.

QFT. The movie is violent. I think parents ought to be held accountable for taking kids to movies with adult ratings, not just for this specific case. My kids would be completely traumatized with nightmares for weeks after seeing a movie like that.

Yea. The same smoke generator, a road flare, and 5 gallons of gas in water balloons would probably have had the same or worse results.

And yet I watched a lot of stuff at that level or worse at that age, and it had no adverse effect on me. Different kids are different.
The thing that gets me is the midnight showing. On more than one occasion I've been out and about in the city, and seen people walking by at 11:00 or midnight with 4-6 year olds walking with them. It really makes me pause and wonder what the heck is going on there.
There are very few parents on this continent, and a LOT of adults with children living with them.
But back to the original topic, that's horrible. My thoughts are with the victims.

Summer vacation

"Summer vacation." This is a troll. It makes no sense. It is summer, okay. So that three month baby just got off school last month and couldnt wait for the new dark knight. So naturally they took this baby to watch the movie. They probably gave the kid a large mountain dew and a pound of twizzlers to enjoy the movie.

Just wanted to add an item regarding metal detectors. They would not have done a bit of good had the theater been equipped prior to the shooting. Report this afternoon was that he bought a ticket went into the theater then after the movie started exited, propping open the exit door. Then went to his car in the rear of the theater suited up and went back inside via the exit he propped open.
Obviously premeditated and planned. I have mixed feelings about him being taken alive.

Well you know the media. Was probably a side exit door.

I spent the day talking to the one individual that can stop this kind of stuff. Importunately weve chased him out of our schools, our homes, our Lives. We used to be "One Nation Under" him and instead became, "Many little nations without" him. It wasnt always like that. When I was a kid just about every child was raised in a House of Worship and the #1 Lesson learned was that nothing was more precious then innocent human Life. Life that can only be taken in defense of innocent life. Along with that abortion was almost unknown, served when the Nation called, parents found a way to respect their vow's, children grew up in extended families, and everything wasnt always Me,Me,Me,Me!
We grew up in safe neighborhoods, people respected and helped law Enforcement, watched out for their neighbors and neighbors kids, fathers would go out at 0300 hrs in Jan. to help Firemen put away hoses, TV shows and movies weren't drenched in gratuitous blood, and we didnt spend Sundays worshiping the almighty $100 bill. I only caught the tail end of this period, in the '60s. And since then have always thought since that maybe our parents, and parents before them, were simply better people then we are. And had more sense, more strength to simply do the right thing instead of turning every little thing into a National debate. They believed the life of the stranger next to them was as important as their own. Religion teaches you that.
I guess if anyone knew why people do this kind of thing nowdays maybe I should know. As terrible as it was its also a typical summer Weekend where I work. In 28 years Ive been eye to eye with many killers. I watched a guy shoot his two sons, and then himself, with his grandson watching. Locked up parents who murdered their little kids. Sons who strangled their mothers cause she wouldnt give them drug money. And so many innocents caught in gang crossfires I couldnt begin to count them. But to this day I have no clue 'why" they do it. If anything I probably know less then any of you cause I look in their eyes after and it befuddles me. Many times you look into those eyes and there just isnt a person inside them.
But I think I know why it "happens". I know this cause I remember a time when it didnt and the differences between then and now. Even many of these posts in this thread lack even a shred of humanity towards the victims and their families.
Im not going to get into a debate on anything here. In fact this is my last post on the matter. The whole thing leaves me feeling empty and maybe a little like a failure. It also brings back to many bad memories. Ones I'd like to forget. But I pray our almighty Father takes those innocent victims in his hands and helps heal their grieving families and friends.

What? Have you never gone out a rear exit of a movie theater? You can do that at the ends of movies. There is no handle on the other side but you can definitely go out.

that's odd? was it an emergency exit? those generally set off fire alarms automatically......
At a theater I used to work for the emergency exits led out to the parking lots. At the end of the movie we encouraged people to leave via the emergency exits so they got to their cars quicker and they didn't block the lobby which was full of people waiting for the next show. The emergency doors were connected to a small box in the concession stand which held lights indicating weather they were open or closed in each theater. However, the doors had to be closed tightly, even a slight crack with the door latched would trip the light so it became common to ignore them during busy times. Back then we only had to worry about people sneaking into a show though, not what happened here.
-
About 70 people have been shot is the final result I do believe.
-
People die. It happens. Sadly tragedies and people responsible for them, are just as inevitable.
However, that said, we can only mourn and reflect.
Our best course of action is to give the dead proper burials, serve justice upon the perpetrator and take precautions to reduce the chances of this happening again, however slight a reduction it is.
Pointless debating gets us nowhere, guns or not, this happens, and we must deal with it.
I'm not a religious man, but I will give what support I can for the victims of this dreadful event.

Curry1,
Babies sleep alot. My wife and I took our daughter to a 10 pm movie when she was a few months old. Just because parents or parent has a baby does not mean they have to stay at home.
Also if our daughter happen to wake with hunger pains, my wife just happen to bring some food for our daughter with her :)

+1. Not to get political, but I wouldnt be surprised if this turns into something like 9/11 as far as security goes. Not nearly as large scale, but especially in larger cities searches and the sorts will become the norm im sure.
-
Yet...in the near future, I bet every theater will have to get one
And as a person that works in the movie theater business I can tell that this will destroy what's left the movie industry. Movie theaters already struggle to survive with high prices they have to pay for movies and rights. That $10 dollar ticket you pay for doesn't go to the theater, 90% of that goes the the distributor and movie studio, hence why concession prices are so high at theaters, that's their bread and butter. People are not going to come see a movie if they have to pass through airport security just to get in, and at the mom & pop theater I work for we don't have the money or staff to use those things.
This is a terrible, terrible tragedy, however, IMO the movie theater is not a fault in any way shape or form. I'm sick and tired of giving up freedom for fake safety.
-
Yet...in the near future, I bet every theater will have to get one
Useless in this case... His weapons were stashed outside the theater in his car. Smuggling in two long arms in summer clothing would be an insurmountable problem. This nut job had everything outside. While the opening credits were running, he exited the emergency exit, rigged the latch to not latch (duck tape or a simple piece of cardboard will work), went to his car and got into his body armor. He then grabbed his weapons and smoke grenades and walked back in through the same, now unlocked door. Probably took him 20 minutes total. The depth of his planning is evident. This was not a momentary incidence of insanity. This evil bastige worked on this plan for months... Even if he was unable to get firearms, I have no doubt that he would have made and used IEDs as evidenced by his apartment. He really believes that he is the Joker... Pity should not be expected.
Also, while you cannot legislate crazy, it's perfectly evident that our current popular culture contributed to his psychosis. Popular culture is teaching a generation that extreme violence is normal, and almost acceptable. Certainly, unavoidable. If we don't take stock of the prevailing culture and change it, things will only get worse, IMHO.

What was there to detect? He went in unarmed. He then propped open an exit, went and retrieved his stuff from the parking lot, came back in the exit, then did his...deed. How would a metal detector detect anything at that exit?
If anything the exit warning lights might have been ignored... or even disabled possibly.

First and foremost, our hearts and our thoughts go out to the friends, family and victims whose lives are forever scarred by this twisted tragedy..
I believe something good comes out of even the worst things.. I can't foresee how in this case..
You know, it takes something like this happening to make you think for a while that this can happen anywhere.. Anytime.. Anyplace..
I sit at work and think, literally, is someone going to come in here and start shooting for no reason? Am I going to make it home today to tell my kids goodnight?
Where I work, it's probably not likely.. But it wasn't likely someone was going to start shooting at a mid-night showing of a movie, neither..
There's nothing that can stop this kind of thing from happening.. These things will continue to randomly occur in random places for random reasons, or no reasons at all..
People have their own ideas on how to make sure this never happens again.. But there's really nothing you can do.. It will happen.. Again..
Sobering to think about.. Makes me not want to go anywhere or take my family anywhere.. I mean, that probably won't happen.. We'll still carry on like we normally do..
But for a while, all I'll think about is if we're in the wrong place at the wrong time..
Just a real thought that's been going through my mind for a few days..
