Want a range ring (like radar ring) for your AC when E6B is up during flight. It shows how far you will go @ max cruise. It only updates when you refresh the E6B.

+1 thatsa cool idea

-1, I'd have to zoom out too far.

Agreed

a grid is 25miles, do the math and quit slacking off.. next youll want ai to fly for you :huh lol
-
I have an E6B for a watch. I know how to use it but most do not. If the clipboard e6b already does the calcs for you why not just have it show your max range?
-
Whenver I check range, its usually to see how much I need to throttle the engine back to get home, while still maintaining fleeing-speed.
-

It already does...just not with a range circle on your map. No need for more than what it already gives you. As has been said already, grids are 25 miles square...

doesnt it already show your maximum range? and also your time?

The range on E6B is not your actual range you can travel. It's simply how many mph you're doing times how much time you have left. It doesn't take into account altitude.
A "ring" is a dumb idea frankly, because it would be useless and not accurate. Just know 1 sector = 25 miles across. If you're low on gas keep all the alt you can. At 30k you can glide over 3 sectors with no gas left. If you're on the deck, spend some gas climbing very shallowly so that when you run out you can glide her in to land.
There are tons of ways to lean out a trip home, but the best one: TAKE MORE GAS WHEN YOU ROLL!

Jeeze you guys are over the top. Thought it would be a neat add. Instead I get flamed.
Enjoy your evening guys.

That wasn't flammed bud. They gave some good why its not necessary or why they don't think its needed. It doesn't make the idea good or bad, its just their opinion.

Just think these were unneeded comments......sorry had a real crapper of a day....see you in the MA.

+1... :aok
I think it is a good suggestion. Anything that can promote the game in a positive manner is welcome. This is all that. A great benefit especially for newcomers and Bombers doing multiple doglegs.

Don't really see why not, it doesn't hurt anyone. :headscratch:

It wasn't milk they had in their cereal this morning.

because the reason to post an idea is to discuss if it is something that is really needed or not.
there has to be a reason other than "it doesnt hurt anyone" for a wish to be granted.

Reason: Help newer players to learn fuel/throttle management.
And when the learning curve is lessened, new players feel more comfortable and the chance of losing a potential subscriber to frustration goes down. Good enough reason for me.

When I first started, I learned all that without range rings that change size to tell you how much farther you can fly. I read the E6B data, looked at the map, and guessed. Sometimes I guessed wrong, and learned from it. It's not that tough, and I'd rather HTC put their efforts into something that everyone could benefit from.

As did I. But not everyone learns as fast as you and I. Obviously, a single addition like this won't lower the learning curve THAT much, but more smaller additions like it might. So why not start with this?
If you're completely new to a game, would you rather spend 1 hour reading up on how to work this and work that, or would you rather just jump straight in and play? A less complicated game might require a few minutes of reading (which is no biggie), but AH is anything but a simple game, reading the whole "beginners guide" takes an hour at least. Some people probably just walked away when they realized the learning curve in AH, so why wouldn't you want to reduce it in order to gain more customers?
It's not dumbing the game down, you still have to learn ACM, SA and all that, it's just making the game easier to enjoy.

Sorry, I just found that line sort of funny considering the squad you fly with.

but it won't help the new players as the info provided would be inaccurate. range would depend also on altitude and even if that is factored in you still have places like trinity where the mountains are at 20k+

It will be factored in, unless HTC decides to do a quick and cruddy job on it (which I doubt they ever will).

Ok..they may be noobs but they're not brain dead...Anyone can see a mountain in their way.
