Title: 294 kill streak before dying. My best attempt yet at an old challenge
Post by: Citabria on August 06, 2012, 05:05:28 AM: I have had somthing of a tradition since I started playing this game. streak till dying at the start of a tour and attempt to get to 352.

previous attempt streaks for me personally...
152 kills long ago and 156 kills a tour or two ago before getting shot down.

I almost made it to the 352 mark this time.

was up to 294 kills when I bought the virtual farm.

sure was fun while it lasted. :)

you might not grasp the adrenalin rush that is experienced when you are trying to take on the streak challenge. its one thing that keeps me interested in the game. It's not for everyone. only hard core survivalists have an interest in this. the majority is happy with the furball hamster wheel and for most of the time I enjoy it as well. but the call of the streak. the challenge remains. and the attmpt is the fun part. the end is almost always death but then that leaves next tour to try again. :)

similar to FSO events where you get one life but on a more personal level.

the question isn't will you make a mistake but can you beat the odds and survive that mistake. the odds will say no. it is possible to beat the odds but eventually your luck runs out and somthing your brain was telling you was a mistake is ignored and you can not stop the events cacading in slow motion as you take the final turn that ends the attempt.

personally I've always given up once I was captured or bailed out but ussually keep going after a ditch. most of this stems from having no streak tracker so the only way to track it is at the start of a tour with the k/d stat or total kills.

I don't know all I know is the record is 352 by fish-something. I'm sure both Bruv and kazaa know what their records are, iirc they are in the 200s. Didn't kazaa shoot for bruvs fighter ace record and miss it by 1 or tie it?

There is about 50 better ways than post a thread about it. Starting at writing it down or making a spread sheet or posting on your own private muppet forum.

I thought Kazaa's was like 330 something and on his last sortie in his temp he got a radiator hit and flew a sector turning his engine on and off all the way back. :lol

Not this Fish-something, best for me was 1 mission and 32 kills in a G2.

Post by: Citabria on August 06, 2012, 09:08:45 AM: looked up kazaa in tour 121 he did 186 k/d in fighter mode but died 11 times overall. shawk I think has also done the fighter mode streak while dweebing in attack mode etc.

I'm kinda hard core I guess. I don't get an adrenalin flow going unless ive got 0 deaths for the tour then after that I don't care if i die. the thrill is lost after the first death for me and I don't have much interest in "modes" when streaking.

its a roll playing thing.

Midway takes the spotlight despite being nowhere near as good. There are a 1000 ways to spin it from conspiracy theories to his own supposed ego, but if you hear someone hates him this is the bottom line why sadly.

However I would argue AH is easier with no Ace / name tags and jets. I did that streak in 3 days and said i'd never do it again just no fun! but I guess Fester has done his in 5 or so. It is an extremely difficult feat to accomplish and mainly down to pure luck and mental strength.

How did you let a wirbelwind get you? :D

chain of events all screaming RTB NOW...

1. no decent targets. forcing a bad situation ends badly when done repeatedly. pushing luck in a bad way. letting the kills happen and concentrating on SA and defense is preferable.

2. almost killshot. frustration mounting. friendly zooming up from underneath for same scarce target almost takes a tater nearly sending me back to the tower. luck holding by a thread

3. enemy plane breaks low between base and town and augers as he is being shot setting my plane pointing directly at a storch making its way to the town form the airbase. (for the sole purpose of drawing planes closer to wirbles as there were no gv spawns to the base! lol) luck has reached point break. none left.

4. what will one quick pass hurt the storch is only 1k away? no wirbles firing yet... almost there... ping... storch dies kill 294... pulling max g.... ping ping ping... crack boom you have been killed.. tower. your luck has expired have a nice day. :)

my 156 kill streak the tour before last was done with a fw190a8 and many of the other standard run of the mill LW planes. I died trying to avoid a headon from a spixteen in a k4 though :)

I think FishU's streak was done with an A8, but that was in an arena that also had a much more limited planeset. That said, as good as the A8 was back then comparatively, a number of other planes could eat it for lunch.

As impressive as achieving 294 kills in a 262 is - and it is quite an achievement - I'm more impressed at Fester's kill streaks in the A8 and 38. Those must have required some monstrous discipline and SA relative to the 262.

Yes.

As to the kill streak... some people have to stretch it over months instead of a single tour. No reason to limit yourself here Fester. After all Hartmann was shot down many times.

no he wasn't...he was never shot down..as far as I knew......he crash landed something around 14 times and never went into his silk...each time it was from hitting the nme wreckage he caused.

what source says he was shot down? like to read it.

the people he learned from came from two schools of dogfighting...

muscle flyers and head flyers. he combined it all into a fluid form of air combat that helped him survive an entire world war in the air.

I like what he said about Hitler

you might not grasp the adrenalin rush that is experienced when you are trying to take on the streak challenge. its one thing that keeps me interested in the game. I get this. Many people may not like this approach as it makes for a stale gameplay experience for them. They just gotta get this is a different kind of adrenaline binge, the kind that builds with each kill and every subsequent red icon that pops into range. For as much of a "look at me" this appears to be, I do the same thing and have yet to break the 125 mark so kudos to ya! :aok

What if you make a post about how good you are at shredding your P38 to pieces on cartoon lawn furniture with beautiful pics to compliment? I really like those threads. It's not every day one of your cartoon heroes posts a "Look at Me" thread. When it happens it's really exciting. :O In fact, when is the next one? As Sunbat would say, "My cartoon ember gloweth not".

I need some motivation to come back. Scattered B38 parts will help immensely.

Are you sure. I thought 352 was Hartmann's kill total, and that's the number everyone shoots for as a streak because it means they topped Hartmann. I thought AH's highest streak was lower than that as no one had yet equalled Hartmann. (Noting that Hartmann had been shot down several time not withstanding.) :salute

I get too nervous worrying about losing my kills, so as soon as I get 3 or 4 I'm RTB. Ain't no way I'd fly around with double digit kills.....I'd smash the computer and kick the dog if someone killed me when I had 40 or 50 kills. Not that I think I could get that many in the first place... :frown:

FishU definitely holds the record, but I'm not sure if it's 352. That does seem rather coincidental when you think about it. Let me see if I can dig up an old thread about it.

Okay, here's what I found:

FishU had two major streaks in beta. The first was 278 kills, and the second was 348 kills - both in an A8 and both of dubious validity.

The 352 is probably just folks confusing FishU's actual numbers with Hartmann's numbers since they're pretty close.

he didnt play much in beta tour 2 he died once after around 50 kills and didnt play the rest of the tour.

347 total with no recorded kills by another player.
278 of the 347 was in fw190
the rest in various other planes including b17.
he died 11 times to unknown causes but had no captures or bails.

352 is just the number that I set as my own streak goal because hartman was awsome. its not really based on anyone elses in game achievements

if i hadnt had my run in with a wirble I would be sitting at 349 kills at the moment. but instead im back to 55 as my current streak babalonian.

its not as exciting though after the first death of the tour and I am really just practicing for next tour. the addrenalin rush isn't as great.

I just don't have the patience, or focus..... for that type of playing. I do recall when Fishu landed a sortie back in AH beta where he was in a FW190 and he landed some unholy number of kills. These days they would call it shade clubbing.....

you might imagine that if you rearmed and started getting 20+ number next to your name people take an interest in keeping you from continuing to do such an unsavory endeavor.

i recall some of the people that were ther saying fishu was using a bug that credited all ack kills by the server to a player and was getting credit for a ton of free scalps. I didn't see it so I don't know. but he never did a streak past 50 after beta tour 1 even though he played for a couple years after.

thats why I think a streak should be posted on the BBS so it can be verified as authentic when it happened for dweebs that like stuff like survivalist kill streak flying.

everyone is drawn to their own methodology and interest in the planes they like and what aspects of air combat they like to concentrate on.

14 ditches...to 1403 combat sorties, I would say thats not many at all :D

Post by: Zoney on August 08, 2012, 10:32:20 AM: I really love the 190A8. I know, I know, it's a brick, but there's something beautiful about flying one. Pull the trigger and it's like you hit a fly with a sledgehammer. The trick is surviving in it with so many fast planes roaming the skies.

Since tour 144, January 2012, I have managed to get 71 kills in it and have Zero deaths, bails or ditches. So I did the math and that leaves 281 to go to hit that "352" mark.

Daunting to say the least. That's part of the fun doing these streak things. As Fester has said, you've got a little more invested than just climbing out for 5 minutes like a normal sortie.

FYI, I also like to streak at the beginning of each month untill I fail, then I relax a bit.

281 to go.............sheesh.

That was a bomber formation bug... If you tried to switch bombers (when the lead one was shot down), every key stroke would give a kill to the guy who shot down the bomber. I got 20+ kills assigned that way. That was in the day where every kill showed up in yellow text...

It was amusing
