here are 3 reasons why:
1) To give "hanger queens" more of a chance. When's the last time you've seen a C.202 or a KI 61 flying around? In my opinion all 4 engine heavy bombers should be perked, as well as all late war fighters (i.e. P-51D, Spit 16, ect.....). also in the case of aicraft that have multiple variants (i.e. BF-109, Spitfire, ect....) the earlist one would be perk free while the next model would be slightly more expensive.
2) encouraging more variety of aircraft. The late war arena is filled with P-51D's, BF-109G-14's, Spit 16's, P-47D-11's, and B-17's. I don't think it would hurt anyone to try a new aircraft
3) Make more people want to land their plane. It would reduce the number of "Kamikaze" F4U raids off CV's and encourage people to take more realistic fuel loads.

I don't see any need to perk anything else... besides, since when did the P47D-11 become a very popular ride?
-
You have to perk about 90% of the plane set before you will see more I-16 and C.202 around. Generally players that only fly 'hotrods' will just move up to the second best available. They won't suddenly jump into the most exotic planes.
And if you are indeed going to perk even such relatively rare planes like the G-14 and the P-47-11... what planes wiil do the new players fly?
-
In addition it quickly becomes a situation in which new players are stuck trying to learn using P-40s against veteran players in Spitfire Mk XVIs.
That kills player retention.

Run into Tongs and you'll be considering perking the 61 :lol

In further addition I am thinking that flying the fabled and most talked about fighters in history like the P51, Spitfire, Me109, FW190, or LA7 into combat is why many of us joined in the first place. Punishing that with a perk cost does not seem like a good idea.

Any documentation, statistics or maybe some cool graphs to back up this request? :headscratch: Fly what you want, and let others do the same. I say fly and let fly!

I think I may have spoiled the AH community... :uhoh

Midwar sounds like the arena for you.
-
If you want to force people (and don't mind) to fly non-perky rides perhaps every x number days (based on a players start date with AH) force a cutoff level to planes at a certain ENY. :old:
I dont mind cuz I fly everything. KIlls are more fun in early and mid war birds to me.
-
Issue I see with forcing weaker rides to be flown is that a fair number of the vets fly weaker rides by choice already. If you force the noobs into those same rides, then theres no preformance diffrence to give them even some advantage.
-
Hell to the NO
you wanna see more EW planes, we have a nice arena labeled "Early War" try it :D
-
Should we expect a Rule #15 for no cartoons in the future?

Is there room for a dueling style arena in which to burn perks off on the current lineup as well as for planes that were prototypes or made it into service too late to see any action?
Perhaps one that is only open one or few days a week?

First all, quite a few decent pilots fly higher eny planes, they have as much fighting chance as the pilot has in terms of skill.
I racked up over 15,000 perks in only 1 year just flying 20eny planes or higher, I usually paired them off, C.205 and Ki-84 for example, ones 25 eny and ones 20 eny, next tour P-38 and C-205 etc.
Novice players simply need to get out of the baby rides like the P51D and step into something thats challenging. Problem is if they can barely land 2 kills in a 51D whats chance they will land more then one kill in a C.205? Most likely Zero.
I see no reason to change the eny system or perk more aircrafts, perks are easy to come by for those who practice and learn.
-
I say perk the trees... :noid
-
It is never a good idea to limit a player's choice and force them to fly aircraft they don't want to fly, either by increasing perks on an aircraft or through a rolling plane set. All that will result is an eventual empty arena.
ack-ack

Sounds like someone is bored with the same ol' base rollin' :devil
-
Why don't we ask for "Altitude" to be perked?
I don't mind newbies in P51Ds running everywhere fast. It's the sudden fad of doing it above 20k thats getting boring. I'm finding mini hoards at 25k who run away to climb higher so they can come back to vulch me when I find them alone. Thats alot of time on auto climb in a combat game where most airfeilds are a few minutes away from each other. What are they doing with all of that time? Minimised out watching prono?

Wrong! We've had trinity for days now. There is no base rolling without seeing them get unrolled as soon as the 2nd front is opened up.
Those stupid mountains are high enough to keep a Mongolian air force out.

PERK THE MOUNTAINS!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
