Is it that bad? How good were communications in the 1940's?
Teamspeak-Ventrilo are other options.

players with decent mic setup sound clear as a bell to me. higher bitrate wont help if your mic is actually a blown speaker under a duvet 15' away from you, next to a badly-earthed aircon unit with mic boost on and everything turned up to 11 ...
-
you mean your charts wont tell you what my mike set up is :D.

It's pretty rough in comparison. Doesn't matter, hangars didn't rebuild themselves in 15 minutes in the 1940s either :)
We use another option that is 1000 times better than the in-game vox, but thought that everyone could benefit from better a audio bitrate, that could eliminate the necessity of 3rd party programs.

Everyone's is the same... jumbled, poor quality, and daisy chained :P
WAY TO GO x 100!

Using the same microphone and settings for someone that sounds like trash on in-game vox is perfectly clear on a 3rd party vox program.

I dont buy that, if the source is crap its going to sound crap whatever the bitrate.

If you are really interested--- you can join our mumur server for a live test.

then get better speakers as I can hear everybody clearly.

^^^ This
If another player is overmodulating/distorting or squeeking, that's what you'll hear.
No need for the sarcasm Pand, just tryin' to help you out a little.

It's just a wish for better audio quality ... no sarcasm, have you tried a 3rd party program and compared to in-game vox?
-
I've used TeamSpeak in the past. It was the same thing pretty much. Audio quality was based much on the person talking. Crappy mic, poor connection or what not.
Only used that on squad night.

Hmm, for some reason, some people sound differently on Vent than they do in-game.

yeah, they use more bandwidth and cpu.

Optional:Speakers and microphone are optional

Yeah that's the exact specs of the computer I had in 2002, or is this just another instance of documentation not being updated? :aok

i'm pretty sure that's the actual current minimums, because I do remember someone bringing it up before :)
the game is meant to run on some pretty low end equipment, so people can get a taste... the only time i ever bought a piece of hardware to specifically play a mmo flight sim was when confirmed kill came out (beta version of warbirds).. i had to get a 486dx processor for something like $100 because confirmed kill required a functioning FPU. (486sx's had disabled fpu's!!!)

Most people also sound different when they're on the phone too. :)
-
Most sound great and I can even hear how large a room they are speaking from.
More bit depth and sampling rate will have a negative effect on your latency and gameplay.
Some of the third party voice communications do little more than cause warps when you key up.

Does anyone know what the current 'bitrate' for audio on in-game vox is?
