Not many here were probably around for it but I think the most immersive scenario I have experienced was Der Grosse Schlag.
watching 190s tear into a mile long bomber stream while being mauled by mustangs and p38s with 109s slashing this way and that.
epic.
how much longer till the first frame starts for the second edition of this most excellent scenario?
I plan to experience it from the 8th air force perspective in the nervous seat of a bomber pilot and sweat out the luftwaffe and flak and see if I can survive even one mission.
-
I'll be there with ya Cit. I'm leading a good group....56th FG.
-
2 weeks.
No, you won't survive a single frame my friend, but kudos for volunteering to take up a target.
<S>
-
It will be fun for sure. We'll pick up a few killz along the way :aok
-
<--- Waiting with eager anticipation to defend the fatherland.
There will be no losers in this scenario if you're goal is fun and immersion.
-
I am looking forward to giving the Axis a heckuva fight in the Jugs of the mighty 78th FG! :aok
-
Can you just be a gunner?
-
This scenario will be epic. Already we are expecting an attendance of over 250.
Still many slots open for the Luftwaffe! We will be unstoppable :devil

I commend the enthusiasm of the Luft but we shall see how they feel when the Mighty Eigth drops its rain upon their country side destroying all their hopes for greatness into a big wad of rubble. :neener:
Anyone that is interested Allies always looking for more BRAVE Bomber Pilots to drop the rain from the skies. Head to the DGS General tab for more Information.

And there you have it. when the Mighty Eigth drops its rain upon their country side
Like we have been saying all along, we are not concerned. Clearly even you know you won't hit the buildings! All you are going to do is till the soil for us making the next planting season easier. :aok

If I were you I'd be looking for anyone who could aim, I mean, how brave do you have to be? Are you concerned about the ability of your escorts to keep you guys protected?
-
Of course im not concerned about our pilots we have only the best and most skilled on both fighter and bomber sides. This will be fun indeed and the only planting you need to worry about will be the noses of luft in the ground and the flowers over the graves. :lol
-
I see a lot of Lufty pilots putting the nose down, making their runs and not coming back...at least not while the Pony's of the 364th are around. :devil
-
I'm hoping to make it as a walk on. It was one of the best I've flown as well. I was one of the lucky few to get to fly a 262 last time around, and let me tell you, if you think a jet in the MA draws a lot of attention, in that scenario it was insane.
Was a ton of fun, look forward to it!

He's not in EST. He's Euro.

It tears me up that I can't commit my Fortress to these scenarios at this time. I'll be ending my account for a bit to focus on other callings. The immersion of the historical fights is what keeps me in AH. Fantastic luck to both sides
My favorite battle moment is hearing somebody call out incoming bandits while machine gun fire chatters in the background. That sends a chill up me every time

I know Krusty, thanks though. Isnt that the reason why we do Scenarios that early? So Euros can play as well?
-
I have always worked on Saturdays. Lately I have turned up my output about 5 notches. Even my boss is like "What has gotten into you lately Rick, I've never seen you this focused and productive...........
I'm not sure what excuse I'm going to give him to get a few Saturdays off, but the truth is just not an option. I'm going to have to get real creative and then rely on this recent poductivity jump to keep in his good graces.

3PM in EST is 21:00 in CET, not nearly as bad as the old BoG.
Thanks.

Alas, the first 2 frames will be without my support due to a cruise to the Bahamas and the Allied may fall during this time, but come week 3 we will be triumphant!
:O

UHhhhhhh...ummmm...did you get that leave cleared through allied command?
-
The time is drawing near. Nothing like taking the heavies to Germany and having to fight the way in and the way out. It should be an intense and hard fight as the last DGS was.
Just remember to be aware of those times where you find yourself in the cockpit with the radio chatter ringing in your ears. A bomber slides away with a wing on fire. A 109 or is it a 190 drops a way minus a wing. Tracers rip past the cockpit of your Mustang as your wingmen hollers for you to break. Another 190 cuts below you headed for the bombers and you latch on firing short bursts trying to get hits while driving him down and away from the formation......
It's November 1944 and the last big blow of the Luftwaffe is trying to stem the tide of the ever growing Mighty Eighth Air Force.

Are there 152s?
Large formations of bombers are fighter pilot porn! :devil

Contributing to this immersion was the fact that the original DGS had been the largest scenario ever in the history of AH, with about 400 registrants and an average attendance of almost 300 players per frame. :old:

Now that is awesome!! :x

The Luft could do with some more 109 Pilots Debrody,
However a slight disclaimer that hording, ganging and MUCH running by Ponies is to be expected. ;)
-
Love to see the fighter jocks get all frothed up....You guys are so unstable...LMAO ....Looking forward to watching you guys duke it out while I deliver a little love to the Fatherland... :salute

One of my favorite moments from the original DGS: (as chronicled in Brooke's pictorial AAR).
I spot one making his get away and go for him. He's really moving fast, though, and the best I can do is to get to 800 yards range. I try some long range shots, but don't seem to get any hits. I call out on the radio, giving location, hoping that someone else will come in with enough altitude to reel this guy in.
First Redge2 shows up, but he, too, lacked enough altitude in his Bf 109G-14 to overtake the fleeing P-51. Then Stampf shows up in his FW 190D-9 with enough smash to close with the enemy. This is a pic of the hapless P-51, followd by Stampf, Redge2, and me.
Stampf gets him. Poor bastard -- he almost made it. I flew east longer, along with several other LW fighters, chasing after some radar contacts reported to be P-51's. But the enemies were reported shot down before I got there. I returned back to A31 to land.
One of those very satisfying late frame victories.
No Mercy!

Hah! We're coming! I had the 474th FG 38s last DGS. 364th FG Mustangs this time around. Gonna have some fun :)

If I can make it, I rather think my own experience will be more like this:
I could pretty much hear the laughter across the intardnets after I went boom.

Can't wait to bring the 24s of the second division over the target! Good luck to all playing and here's to having some fun !! :salute :salute :salute :salute

Was that the previous DGS scenario or in the MA? Looks like one of the buff runs I was in. :)

I remember the first time we did it. Was definitely one of my most memorable gaming experiences.
