Interesting to me how quickly they are going ahead with this after having just recently completing trials and still lacking a single carrier-based aircraft in their inventory....

-
Hey UK and France China has a bigger one then you!
Well I guess you can say they are rushing it out as a status symbol, but are they working on a aircraft to put on her or looking to buy something overseas.
-
They're gonna hate it when korea (north or south) sinks it and tries to put the blame on the japanese.
-
That's gonna make a great artificial reef. Just think of all the fish that could live in that thing.
-
For now a big, fat, juicey, target. Key is next generation technology 10-years from now.
Boo
-
I say we bomb & sink it now, and turn on red, white & blue airshow smoke as we wave & fly off into the sunset. :aok
-
Sub target practice
-
I know some kids in my neighborhood that would love to take a skate board or BMX off the bow :devil
-
Cool it has a ramp, so if you have to force a wave off, the pilot can clip the rear of the aircraft and go cartwheeling into the ocean ahead.
-sighs- still cant get that steam catapult thing running eh russia and china?
Advanced indeed. :lol
COOL, you guys bought a old 1980's USED carrier and refurbished it to 1990's standards...but wait..you have NO carrier based aircraft. And this is your "status" as a rising super power. Meanwhile the united states has 11 active carriers roaming the entire globe right now, each with subs, cruisers and a entire fleet of support ships. Oh..and we have jets to launch too.
Okay, who let the special kids into the water park? :|

Thank the corrupt CEO's, corporate greed, and the desire to save a dollar on manufacturing costs to move everything to china. Its too bad the US population will not collectively announce they will no longer buy anything from china but at this point, everything is china made now and worthless junk

Fight is over already.. It was fixed decades ago..
Policy papers from the big think tanks spelled it out..
You all were warned, but refused to listen..

Long time ago I hear, the F18's that we bought from the US, had some odd limitations in technical documentations.
Some circuit board functionality, IC IO's and the IC's internal silicon chip areas descriptions were completely missing.
Now days plenty of the IC's are made in China, the ASIC's included so, who knows, what kind undocumented characters THOSE chip may have..
Lets combine above with the Chines typical very long term strategic planning...
No, my tinfoilhat is not too tight :noid

there not :rofl
That doesn't make any sense.

Exactly they won't start a war because they make everything :old:
Wars are only for gain :) and why start a argument with your markets when you can just under cut them :rofl
That's what The Japanese and Chinese arguing nonsense for the sheep is about, the Japanese cannot compete with the China, and since end of the Cold War Japan is now having to stand on its own with out the Trillions of dollars you gave it :rofl
Japan is the most inefficient country in the world, it was all based on massive deficits which they will pay for the next 250 years, they don't make anyone unemployed and they have 10 people to do a one man job :rofl
The end of the world :rofl

Concerning the Japan vs China
Perhaps the China is just making their internal politic adjustments with this drama.
It could be they want to point their people attention towards to the greater 'common enemy', while they are doing some internal adjustments.
No one will pay attention too much to it... Or else.
Once things are done, the drama will cool down and some new deals are actually made for 'common good'.
WMD? Any one?

Pfft. An old carrier that was given a little bit of love to make it operable to standards that were set 2 decades ago, yep. We definitely need to be scared. They couldn't even design their own for gods sake. If they really wanted to be considered dangerous they should at least have the planes to put on it, and then have them able to take off from it.
Its like buying an old M-16, giving it a few mods and then calling it an M4. Its just stupid. :bhead
-
:bhead
Irony
I meet some very nice US people, but I always kept away a politics for good reason.
To me is always sounded like they are way too simple to go to the reasoning state. No, what if's or else'sEsc
Way too painful
-

But, if you get shot with it, it doesn't really matter. Does it?
Reminds me of a scene from Pulp Fiction where the serious guy with the little handgun blows away to jokers with the hand cannons.
My 2 cents on the subject:
The comparison of China to US is irrelevant. My guess what matters is China's net advancement relative to previous capabilities. And just as important, is the perceived advancement of China to China's neighbors in the region. What's important to me is the trend.

Ok your the "hot fighter jock" sent to blow it up, your not nervous of getting blown out of the sky?
Any threat no matter how big or small is still a threat.

If it were out at sea and had an escort of a few other ships, I'd be less worried. No planes are able to take off of it so half of the fear factor is gone. Now, about its self-defense systems and other ships? Well then that's a bit of a problem.
-

Exactly so dont blow it off because its been "given a little bit of love".
-
Boy oh boy is that thing ugly...
-
Exactly so dont blow it off because its been "given a little bit of love".
I never blew it off as totally useless but it pretty much is. Right now its just a symbol saying "we fixed an old carrier to old standards" and attempting to show it off. There are no planes capable of flying from it and I doubt its gone far from its home port. Maybe in a few more years when there's planes/helicopters that can fly and land from it and when its finally been deployed in combat i'll think of it as fairly dangerous.
And don't forget that its only used for training for now.
-
Haha the euros always say such negative things about the US when someone brings up China....not a single shot aye? These bananas obviously haven't seen some of the normal US citizens gun collections.....some could arm a platoon size element with rifles.
Bring on that carrier and that million man army....your fighting a force of combat tested leaders.

Why would China invade the country that gives them Trillions of diollars to fund its economy?

I don't think they would try in my life. But I do think they have an interest in an area of the world where the US has a lot of interest.

Funny thing is that China could end the US without firing a single shot.
They could make it hard for us untill we get our s*** together, but I don't think they could "end" us.
Thats one of the good things about having a large standing military, and big stockpiles of weapons; if someone we owe money to tries to collect, we can hold the country together untill we sort things out.
If several major exporters did it simultaneously, we'd most likely be screwed. But I don't think they would have the nessecary level of cooperation, especially with China.
-
The US would put up trade Tarriffs up :old:
World economy would collapse :old:
China bought US debt because it was forced too :)
-
I skipped ahead so if someone brought it up sorry for asking.
I have always been curious about the ramp at the end of some carriers mostly Russian I believe. It puts you in a high attack angle at a low speed wouldn't this be an issue for a stalling. I do recall seeing videos of bad cat launches where someone would have to eject. I see this as making a dangerous situation worse. Or does it have to do with the type of aircraft they intend to launch.
-
I think the British were the first to use the ski ramp just as they were first with steam catapaults. The original ski ramps worked fine for Harriers and will probably work fine with today's tactical aircraft and their high thrust to weight ratio.
-

Oh I see so now you're hostile against China AND europe? Boy you need to get your head checked. Which european carriers/ships/planes and troops inside them would you like to use for target practise and which cities would you like to nuke? Have you noticed the absolute lack of europeans making plans on attacking American targets?

When you sober up please reread this and junkys statement and please please tell me how Junky was hostile n any form toward the Euros, other than his pointing out that Euros would lose it if they saw some Americans private gun collections, which isnt very hostile more of pointing out the ignorence of Euros when it comes to Americans and thier guns. :aok
As for nuking a European city I'd personaly go with Copenhagen for making that crappy snuff. Europen ship for target practice definatly the Foch.

I guess you're too dense to see the innuendo where 'europeans are saying nothing about blablabla'. So what do you think exactly justifies your immediate agression plans when some other country builds a ship that you have 10 of? Are you really so insecure that you have to resort to attack at the slightest hint of a threat somewhere? :lol

my understanding is that the refurbished Russian '70s carrier is mainly being used for training and is not really capable nor setup for war... Now in the future they will prob build their own CVs based off the Russian one..
And all you clowns half dreaming of a war with china... dream on... the two nations are economic tied at the hip.
-
I do wonder, how badly would the Chinese injur their economy if they stop trading with the USA.

You are correct. This was a Soviet Admiral Kuznetsov class aircraft carrier. It was pretty much an empty hulk when the Chinese bought it at auction. They paid over $30 million to buy it and tow it home. The Chinese have no aircraft to fly from it and no trained pilots. Still, they had to start somewhere.
Under tow on the way to China...

At sea the US would win easy. However, neither the US or EU could hope to successfully invade the opposition; that's just silly.
We carry the big stick.
Today the "big stick" has a radioactive warning sticker on it, and China has a few big chopsticks of their own.
-
I think that the USA needs its big stick
America isn't safe without all that firepower. If America didn't have its military, it would neither have any moral or political authority. America is at this present time, the most corrupt, the most bankrupt, the most arrogant and indeed the most politically unstable. Of all developed nations.
The American people, and the American military, are by far the best in the world, in terms of firepower and indeed attitude. However their leaders and policies, are so misguided and greedy, that the democracy and freedom that is so valuable to them, has been whittled down and all but destroyed.
I have no hatred of the USA, just those in charge of it, I have a great faith and love for the ORIGINAL ideals (bar slavery and religious repression) of the United States Constitution. My best friend described me as, Australian born, English upbringing, and an American attitude. Thats something Im proud of.
China and the US will never go to war, if they did, neither nation would win, they would both fall into economic and military ruin. So many people would die and nothing would be gained. The US may win militarily, but to totally defeat China, the US would have to launch an invasion, an operation which, no matter how strong the US military is, would be impossible.
Im not under any delusions. The US, due to its economic situation, is liable to lose the next major war it fights.
-

Here's my question, why don't they "end" us and become the strongest power in the world.
Simple answer, w/o us, china wouldn't be the world power, well probally so but not as "rich" n powerful as they are now.. Off the top of my head, I'm guessing the United States account for 40% if not 60% of all Chinese exports. W/O the USA, the Chinese economy would collapse on itself. It would recover, but at a significant loss. N economically, China is the world power n in these days, being the economic world power gives you the most persuasion. big stick or not, these days, its more about the fat wallet.
-
Still need the big stick. At least for me in berkeley so I can't beat the dirty hippies trying to piss on my quiet family street. No joke, beating dirty hippies trying to take a leak in my drive way is a weekly thing. Ahhh berkeley

The largest foreign holder of U.S. debt is China, which owns more about $1.2 trillion in bills, notes and bonds, according to the Treasury.
If China decided to dump these assets the US currency would basically default and I hope I don't have to explain to you what that means.
