Title: Challenge: Why are you yelling bravo? Did you like it that much?

<S> Everyone!   It has been 11 years in the making, but I have finally managed to achieve our squadron's highest award, the Medal of Honor, which requires 50 victories and zero deaths while having your sortie classified as a fighter.  I was fortunate enough to accomplish this in my favorite aircraft, a mid-war P-51 Bravo.  I have made several attempts to attain this goal, but up until this point I was just unable to cut the mustard.

A less than optimistic squad mate of mine has expressed misgivings toward my public proclamation; however, my long tenure as a member of this community has motivated me to share, what is to date, my most fortuitous exploit with my fellow cartoon pilots, countrymen, and respected enemies.

Over the greater portion of the past decade, I have unwittingly attracted a dedicated fan club of grinning and back-patting Waldorf and Statler-esque detractors.  It is to the darkened recess of that lofty balcony that I now turn, issuing the following challenge:

In the upcoming Aces High tour (LWTour154), successfully secure 50 fighter victories in any piston driven aircraft, while simultaneously incurring zero deaths, ditches, or otherwise unsuccessful landings during sorties classified as a fighter.  For those wishing to truly meet or exceed my achievement, and do not mind a borderline anachronistic lack of explosive firepower in the main arena, perhaps attempt this in a P-51 Bravo.

Edit: Oh wait now, there is more!  The aforementioned squad mate has brought to my attention something that, in my embarrassment, I neglected to address previously.  My fan club playfully enjoys ribbing me for "picking and running" in my Mustang of choice.  As to remove any shadow of a doubt, any challenger can do as much "picking and running" as they desire, as long as the challenge is completed inside of my total fighter sortie time of 4 hours, 12 minutes, and 27 seconds.

As an incentive to sweeten the pot, anyone capable of meeting or exceeding the given parameters within the time allotted and in a comparable (mid-war or earlier) aircraft to the P-51 Bravo, shall receive at no charge to themselves, an autographed 8x10 photo of yours truly--- So manage your time wisely, do not let climbing to 40K and fleeing when you appear to have lost the advantage ruin your chances at what is sure to become a collector's item (suitable for framing).

Here is a link to the current official squadron medals: http://www.horizonx.org/roster/?page=medals.

Long ago, in an age of Aces High undimmed before the breaking of the world, the Legendary SkatSr claimed his rightful place as the sole owner of this award.  In the years that followed, such prowess seemed a skill of the past.  Shadow's exploits changed all of that, and caused us to look with more discerning scrutiny around the details of the award.

It would not be in keeping with the spirit of the squadron to discourage a pilot from continuing to fight during a tour, and so the decision was made to limit the award to the fighter category.  This enables a pilot to continue to fly attack missions without risking their hard earned achievement.

On a related note, during the reclassification, it was pointed out that the sortie requirement was inconsequential for this award, as a pilot could simply make several risk-free sorties from an airfield far from the conflict.

From http://www.horizonx.org/roster/?page=medals (http://www.horizonx.org/roster/?page=medals)

"The Medal of Honor is awarded to members who are able to perform in combat throughout a TOD without being killed in action. - A member must obtain a minimum of 50 confirmed kills. - In order to receive the Medal of Honor, you must have no deaths recorded in your fighter stats at the end of tour. - Awarded Monthly at the end of each tour automatically."

While I do expect a better showing from the domestic stable, it is still a bit early in the day; however, the excitement and enthusiasm our EMEA brethren are showing thus far has me figuratively on the edge of my seat!

General Audience:  You may have noticed Balcony dwellers are signifying their urge to participate by talking mad trash, and perhaps that has given you pause.  Not to worry!  Quality pilots may indicate their wish to participate in the challenge by simply replying with which early/mid-war aircraft you will be flying!

<S>, Good Luck, Good Hunting, and see you in the air Opening Day of LWTour154!

If you had posted that up telling everyone it was achived in an I16 with stats to prove it, you would today be a legend of Aces High that no one would forget. Most of us don't bother to fly that carefuly. If you want to live up to a legend, follow Fester.

That's somewhat true, but still debatable, as the main altitude range where the Bravo is faster has very little activity in AH ;)

The bravo is faster than the Delta. :)

That certainly makes a huge difference in those fights between 12k and 20k... (and of course north of 28k)

The gun package/ammo is the big thing... 50% more punch is profound, but the Delta holds an edge in acceleration, low alt climb, speed up to 12k (would love to see the % of kills below 12k vs above) and slightly better views (though the Bravo is slightly more agile it seems).

To the remainder of the balcony:  Achieving this level of proficiency was no easy feat for me.  While I certainly do not relish the idea of you obliterating my record, in light of the combination of the ease in which you assert that it was originally obtained, coupled with your superior skill, I take heart in the excitement of seeing by just how far each of you will exceed my results so that I may have a new level of excellence to strive for.

Actually, it was changed after Shadow got his award to require only going 50 to 0... the entire stipulation on maintaining 0 deaths in either fighter or attacker was removed. (Don't take my word for it, go look up Shadow's final Tour 148 stats)

Pand then further modified it, making it Fighter only and reinstating the total tour requirement for fighter deaths.  Change is a constant, buy a helmet.

I don't know why you are needling him, you're going to look like a jerk when you handily beat his record next tour... the only thing you haven't stated is which early/mid-war plane you are going to do it in... I can't imagine someone like you doing it in a P-51B.  I pegged you for doing it in a 109F4, but I didn't want to presume.  Either way, I have a side bet going that you will do it in under... well, a certain amount of time.

So far you and Bone are the only two that even stand a chance... I mean, Derpbrody... I told Pand he'd probably have to let him attempt it in a 262 to even come close.

I'll be lucky to go 2:0, but I am still going to try.

 :salute

my aim is not good enough for this "style" of "fighting"  but I will gladly take some DA lessons from ya.
<S> Ink!  I'm not sure I could teach you much, my lessons are limited to winging up, getting kills, and staying alive in the MA.   :joystick:

<S> Dolby!  I will happily engage you in the DA best of 5; however, I am quite confident that I am not as proficient as you 1v1 (and expect you to school me).  I accept your challenge, as long as regardless of outcome you accept mine, since you imply that a 50-0 in the MA is child's play.

at least you will go to DA....unlike chalenge :rofl

but ya....I have no interest in worrying about a silly cartoon death...... :aok

or getting "kills" or "winging"

you do realize I hope........ that if you spent the time you gave to this game actually fighting till the end win or lose...those fights would have been different.

there is a time and a place for both flying mad and flying smart. I enjoy both immensely at the right times.

I gave the Pony B a fly this morning and managed to land a 7 kill sortie. The only real constraint is the ammo load. To get 50 kills in 4 hours needs a target rich environment.

For me, the MA is practice for the big game that occurs Fridays at 11 Eastern time.   FSO is the real deal, and in my opinion, is the epitome of Aces High.  I subscribe to the quote "Practice the way you compete", and in FSO since you only have 1 life, this includes flying each plane to its advantages, procuring a reliable wingman, and honing your accuracy to not miss a potential shot.

I love flying smart in the MA too, getting some practice in for DGSII tonight I was. You know most people who are making jokes in your thread are not serious and are happy that you are happy with your achievement, which is not an easy one.

I hope that everyone who earns their squad's medals for respective achievements does not forget to list all the goodness on their resume'.  It would be a shame not to.

A guy has to wonder if some of the folks who are jobless, "disabled", etc (not saying Pand is, btw), would put as much effort in to real life such as finding a job or bettering themselves as they do in to AH just how awesome they would be.

I have decided to form my own squad. I can then set the requirements for the winning of medals and promotion prospects are excellent. Since yesterday I have been promoted from a slop-jockey in my virtual squadron canteen, to Fieldgeneralmarshalladmiral Class1 with chocolate sprinkles.
Also I have awarded myself the Croix de Guerre, Legion D Honour, Medal of Honour, Victoria Cross, Hero of the Soviet Union and the Anthony Plomb medal for being killed in the process of rescuing an injured hamster.
I have printed said awards out on good quality card and shall be sporting them at the pub tonight and watching the ladies swoon.

Most of the challenge is in doing it with an older ride. 50 is still impressive though. I am probably going to extend my g6 streak, Fester style.
