Title: ID the a/c
Post by: MiloMorai on November 11, 2012, 06:00:29 PM
On another board a member posted a photo of a recognition model owned by his grandfather who was posted in England. It has American ID markings as his g'father said it was an American a/c so he applied the decals to it.

It looks like a Ki-21 but why would such a model be in England?

Could be ("could" be... it's a very superficial resemblance) a B-10, though these were really pre-war. Except for the nose being totally different on the B-10.

Probably need to know more of the story...might have been kind of a joke.

Brits, in any case would need Japanese recognition models since they too were in India, Burma, Indo-China, etc.

In any case, here's a Dutch marked Sally:

And here's a US captured Dinah:

So maybe there was a US captured Sally too.

My inclination was that it looks very much like a Sally, also. My B-10 response was in the mindset of assuming it wasnt a Sally.

So I'd say somebody just painted it (rather crudely) well after the fact.

The Hudson. :)

Yes.

Have been reading about the poor pilots who had to fly this plane in the Pacific.

They where one of the first Allied aircraft into combat, dropping bombs and strafing japanese troops and ships landing at Kota Bharu hours before the Pearl Harbor. They sunk 24 landing barges and 1 ship, and landed hits on the 3 other transports setting 2 on fire. They where flying 20mins to the battle ground at midnight on 7/8 Dec, after 14 hours of none stop operations including rearming and repairing multiple times, the last Hudsons flew out with as many aircrew/ground crew that could fit. As they flew out they came under fire from japanese next to the field.

Then when the lack of planes became desperate they were asked to fly as escort and patrol.

Bugatti 100P. In many ways the design was ahead of its time. It never flew so the theories weren't really put to practise. It for example used a flap mechanisim that is similar to the modern competition gliders. The top seepd claims however were wayyyy too optimistic, though as far as I can figure.

There's a group currently builiding a reproduction to fly that will be configured to the similar specs as the original one.
