Title: For Historical-Fiction Readers
Post by: BFOOT1 on November 14, 2012, 10:18:37 PM
Hey there fellas and ladies. Just to let y'all know I'm a big reader. I just recently read The Hill by Leonard B. Scott, which is about the battle for hills 823 and 875 during the Vietnam War. This book is one the best and most saddest books I've ever read. I highly recommend this book to any historical hiction war lover like myself  :salute enjoy!

I think I read that a long time ago. He also wrote others about a group of LRRP guys that was loosely based on some of the MACvSOG teams.

I just started another Bernard Cornwell.

It is called 'The Last Kingdom' about the Vikings in early middle ages England.  Pretty good.

Have to check that out.  I like Harry Turtledove books myself.  Has interesting takes on alternate history fiction.

The Hill was a very good book. I read it when I was in high school and about to go into the Army for my first tour.

Historical fiction? :huh

Isn't historical non-fiction interesting enough already?  Why read about made up history? :headscratch:

Indeed.

Hey, the full text of both of those are on that site. Sweet, just sent to my Kindle. Thanks Coombzy.

I likey the historical fiction, you can't go wrong with Flashman by George MacDonald Fraser. Flashman and the Redskins is probably my favorite, cos it's got Kit Carson and Custer and Geronimo, but all of them are pretty great. He goes for laughs a lot but his main point is that history isn't as neat and clean as history books portray it, and that things mostly happen because of people's human failings, because of their petty jealousies and ambition and mistakes. Not quite military fiction though, if that's what people are looking for.

Because sir Midway historical-fiction gives a variety and you don't know who is going to live or die. It can be suspenful and mysterious and full of action. Most historica-fiction books are written by retired military personal. I read non-fiction but historical fiction gives me the oppurtunity to be the main character. I can use my imagination and see everything the main character sees.  :salute

cc, makes all the sense in the world to me now.   I always thought of that as just fiction, hadn't thought about history in that context.  Always associated history with non-fiction,  I stand corrected. :salute
